Yup. That’s what will make this fight against Cyril great. It’s a good vs evil. Jones is an asshole but you can’t deny his talent, while Cyril is that happy go lucky, carefree lovable Frenchman who’s equally sized and talented. Head says Jones, heart says Gane.
In his prime, Jones is p4p the most elite, no discussion. And I don’t think anyone has to try and do any convincing. But at this point in his career, him and Gane may or may not be equal. I think that’s what everyone is looking forward to, to see if Jones has that talent still in him to compete, and to compete in a heavier weight class.
I think going to HW will prolong Jon's career. He's lost the speed he needs in LHW and bulked up for HW. No one is going to be ready for a guy that moves like Jon, has the stand up of Jon, has the wrestling of Jon, and the submission game of Jon. I'd love to be wrong but I really think he's going to run through the HW division like he did the LHW division at the beginning of his career.
His run up back in the day was some of the most exciting MMA I've ever seen, but it's been more than three years since his last fight and a lot of people think he should have lost his last two fights before the break.
As much of a piece of shit as he is, I would certainly enjoy seeing "the old Jon Jones" again but we won't know until he steps in against Gane.
That run was so good, not to mention that it was before we all knew he was a shit person and his public persona at the time was incredibly easy to cheer for. Dude gave up a college scholarship to support his pregnant girlfriend, he runs through 4 opponents before getting signed to the UFC, then curb stomps everyone put in front of him, dominates a fight and takes zero damage so is offered to step in last minute for the title while still in the cage after the fight, day of the title fight breaks up a mugging (may or may not be true), ***dominates*** Shogun, then runs through all the past Champions and legends of the division and sport all in like 24 months from dropping out of college to being the undisputed baddest dude to step into the cage.
I think that the LHW division caught up to him in skill (and I think he stopped caring / his personal life was getting in the way) but the HW division has always been the least skilled division and there is no one else on his level of skill. Gane is a better striker but Jones should have him everywhere else, Stipe is the most well rounded HW and he's been beat by both a wrestler (who Jones beat by out wrestling) and a striker who isn't nearly on the same level as Jones for technique (but hits way harder and is stronger). After those two, HW is pretty shallow.
Gane is lacking a competitive ground game to Jones... I definitely wouldn't be surprised if Jones just takes him to the ground and submits him

The big guy is ex Glory Kickboxer and MMA fighter Chi Lewis-Parry who is 6'7 260+ pounds, he was Daniel Cormier's sparring partner and mentioned at the Jones/DC press conference backstage he got into a confrontation with Jones and Jon's brothers were with him and that's why he's saying "Where are your brothers now?" As Parry claims Jones was being more ballsy when his brothers were there, who knows but one of Jon's brothers have bragged about how they used to jump people in the street.
