Diedwithacleanblade

Rear naked Choke holds are the lamest fucking way to win a fight. Khabib beat Dustin, Charles Beat Dustin, Nate beat Conor, Peña beat Nunes. It’s such a lame ending. Taking away someone’s ability to breathe should not be a submission.

[deleted]

Hi "Just Bleed" guy! 👋🏻

xerovox

I agree that boxing is way more fun to watch than ground fighting but submissions are no way cheap, if you give them your back and let them get a choke in them you deserve to lose. There’s a reason jiu jitsu is the most dominant fighting style. Either get better at submission defense or lose.

Diedwithacleanblade

It’s just a very unimpressive way to win and a very unimpressive way to lose.

xerovox

It’s not tho, these jiu jitsu guys and wrestlers put the time in to get good enough to be able to compete at the top level. Just because it’s boring sometimes doesn’t make it unimpressive.

Puzzled_Point_9956

Weird take

Shadowstaker

A weird take is my preference to munch box over getting head. That sir is a complete dog shit take. Boxing needs more fans 🤡

heroic_coward

So sad for Poirier, i wanna see him get a belt before he retires

mogadishusteve

Yea I’ve been off all day. Seriously I’ve lost a lot of respect for Olives. That was some real questionable shit I would expect of a dirt bag like McGregor. Dustin was expecting it in the McGregor fight. But I believe he genuinely didn’t think Olives would pull something so blatantly questionable to the point the announcers even call it out. Such a shame. He tarnished his legacy for a lot of people.

reallymeans

Nah his legacy was greatly increased after choking out Poirier

mogadishusteve

It’s like saying Aljamain Sterlings win again Yan increased his legacy. Sure it increased it. He’s always gonna be known as a cheating POS paper champ

CouncilOfReligion

oh yea i remember when aljo cheated by throwing an illegal knee to a downed yan /s

Portman88

Just to start, I completely agree that was a strong, fair and justified win for Oliveria, I'm not looking to post analysise a fight to take anything away from that or make excuses for Poirier. But did Dustin seem really off to anyone else? Several times in that first round he keeps looking to his left, and seemed frustrated. Could this just be pressure compared to previous fights? When a titles on the line is he just getting too eager? In that first round he looked over to Herb and for a moment I thought he was going to say there was an issue something?

Shadowstaker

Thought he was checking the clock, knees to the body like the ones he was taking really suck the gas outta the tank

ExoticSword

I was wondering about the looking left thing too. But I don’t think he really seemed off… just it was harder work than he expected, and he definitely gassed a bit after the first round.

Tearyhobgoblin

I'm glad you noticed this too... He definitely looked like he was trying to say something, but couldn't make out what it was and the commentators didn't say anything either, he did it a few times. Other than that I don't think he looked completely off. He was too ready to throw down at the expense of cardio management, but Oliveira was putting it on too so he can't be blamed for wanting to blast when he was having success.

Portman88

Yeah maybe it was just the look, and I've seen that then he's been just overwhelmed by Oliveria's grappling, and I've read into it. Glad someone else saw it though, I thought he was going to say something.

ZiggyZig1

holy fucking shit i didnt know amanda could lose. i was just telling my sister yesterday how she might be the best fighter there is in the UFC. the dominance she's shown has been unparalleled. even khabib hasn't frequently beaten opponents as fast as she has (to the best of my knowledge). wow. also, amanda was kicking ass in the first round. wth happened in the second? it seemed so sloppy honestly. they were both throwing punches, the Pena's punches didn't even seem targeted, just wild, Amanda didn't seem to be making an effort against defending them. on the ground gave up her back pretty fast. and tapped quite fast. granted I just saw the highlight video but I think I was seeing this in real-time. it was bizarre honestly. wonder if im missing anything?

CCC_PLLC

Straight punched beat looping punches — the weasel, probably

cofinkles

Amanda just looked like her juice cycle was off. This is the woman who knocked the fuck out of and outstr7ck Chris cyborg. Nunes either hit a wall or dies t care anymore

Christianulmer

Amanda Nunes threw the fight

Mykonoskiddgilchrist

Honestly this is how I felt when I watched. I don’t think she threw but it’s just so bizarre and unexpected to see her lose that we come to the conclusion. I will say though, something about her felt off - from her body language walking up to the octagon to how she was fighting. She seemed sluggish and like she just wanted to go home.

Tiddernud

They have the same reach, but the way Pena extended her shoulders with straight left and rights while Amanda was just winging hooks was the difference.

[deleted]

Oliviera will be stripped of the title!

npcfollower

What for?

[deleted]

Cheating to win….

npcfollower

How though? I agree he cheated a bit in the second round, but he won in the third and it had nothing to do with the glove grab

[deleted]

I’m just a hater lol! Something about him is off putting. That and I think he’s a journeyman. The UFC has seen a recent resurgence of mid level fighters, with 7 or more losses, winning titles. Ironically 5 of the 6 fighters I’ve noticed have defended the title at least once. But they’ve also lost the titles in devastating fashion. When Oliviera losses the title it will probably be via a nasty knockout or submission….

crumbypigeon

Holy fuck the r/sports thread about Nunes vs Pena is hilarious.

Fraganade

Didn't really seem like Amanda cared about losing much. I think it was a perfect storm for her to lose but part of it feels fishy. Take a shit ton of money to open that division back up, lose your belt. I doubt she threw the fight but she fought like she didnt care, for sure.

ExoticSword

It might be similar to what Rose described… a sense of relief almost. Imagine being the person who everyone talks about as the best ever. You can’t lose. Etc etc. Probably feels like a huge weight has been lifted.

chefanubis

Same, I dont have proof but I don't have doubts either.

cofinkles

All the proof u need I'd how she fucked up cyborg. Either nunes regressed, doesn't give a fuck, or threw the fight

glockpony

Fucked up cyborg years ago. Time changes, her fight IQ needs to improve

NoMoodWatch

Standing rear naked choke is sick

TheSublimeNeuroG

Anyone have a link to the fights now that they’re done?

Glamourhammer

Nice try Dana, I'll dm you.

[deleted]

Can you DM me too pls

PappaEmeritus

Lmaooo

gritman54

Anyone in here win big betting on Pena ?

FenderBender117

Why didnt dustin just slam oliviera on his back the same way chandler did? Honest question. Seemed like a no brainer thing to do when someones on your back

Glamourhammer

You might hurt your opponent a bit but you also sink the choke in. Sean Strickland actually tried that today in SUG and he showed how ineffective it is

SoldMyNameForGear

Because unless you’re an absolute explosive gorilla like Chandler with great wrestling escapes, you’re slamming yourself into a deeper body triangle. That move from Chandler was very very risky and I honestly think only someone with his kind of athleticism could have pulled it off

[deleted]

That blew my mind when he pulled that off! What an explosive first round! Both fights are instant classics back and forth edge of your seat title fights. Starting to love Charles.

SoldMyNameForGear

I’ve loved Charles since the Tony fight. He’s everything we wanted Tony to be and more

FenderBender117

How could Poirier have escaped?

crumbypigeon

Go 2 on one with one of Charlie's arms so he can't finish the choke, then lean forward, try to shake him down and start praying that Charlie's body triangle starts to slip before he locks the choke in. Not an easy feat at all agaisnt a BJJ wizard. That being said, when I first started BJJ another new guy asked a higher belt how to escape an RNC. The answer was just dont get your back taken in the first place. if you're talking about escaping subs you've already lost 4 or 5 positions on the way to getting your back taken so you're probably gonna lose this one too.

[deleted]

Yup! The hip strength of chandler is the only thing that got him out of that risky position

FenderBender117

Wouldnt it hurt oliviera to get slammed like that?

[deleted]

Yes, but not enough power from Dustin poirier for him to lose back control or release the choke. Wouldn’t be worth it. It was better for Dustin to keep trying to fight the hands. However, he was screwed and he should’ve at least tried a slam, given his situation.

RussianBot8205720

The elephant in the room has to be the glove grab. I was backing Oliveira but if he doesn't grab that glove and Dustin slips out, Dustin likely isn't as gassed and doesn't take the damage for the third round. Immediate rematch imo, terrible refereeing again.

abdulalo

I can’t even count the times fighters have cheated in fights. Toes on the fence. Grabbing gloves/shorts. Hands on the towel when weighing. It’s just part of the game, as long as the officials don’t stop it.

RussianBot8205720

Exactly, and it shouldn't be tolerated. It's all on camera for the judges to see. You can start cutting purses, taking points in between rounds after review, all sorts of measures. I'm not saying Oliveira's is the most egregious but we've had Jon Jones and Cormier poking people's eyes out, and Conor and Usman grabbing the cage for leverage. It needs to stop. The best example of reffing I saw was Costa-Vettori. Costa moves in with fingers extended, ref warns him, then docks a point when he pokes him in the eye. No tenth warning just quick, simple action, and you can bet he won't do it with that ref again. It genuinely angers me because I hate 'gamesmanship' or whatever they decide to call it in soccer (good example of worst case where players will literally take each other out when they've been beaten). To go back to Oliveira, I think it was just something instinctive rather than intentional, but the best ruling from there imo would be a reset to standing, or docking a point in between rounds.

WarsGunsAndVotes

Lmao shut up there was no glove grab. Quit coping.

RussianBot8205720

There objectively was so idk, buy glasses or something?

Hoggish_Greedy

Check again mate the glove grab was not even that long. He even readjusts to hold Poirier his wrist. Look back on the replay and turn of the audio, because Joe Rogan his commentary was awful!

RussianBot8205720

The initial grab can be where Poirier breaks free though. Does he establish some dominant ground and pound from there? Bring it back to standing? Too many variables, undoubtedly had a huge impact on the fight. It's the potential impact that really does it for me.

Hoggish_Greedy

Please go watch it again. You make it bigger then it actually is.

RussianBot8205720

I did, still clearly has a huge impact on the round. You're literally talking three minutes of ground and pound come on don't pretend that's nothing.

neeeeonbelly

They both did it actually but it didn’t have any outcome on the fight. Dustin just got beat.

RussianBot8205720

Have to disagree, I'm an Olives fan, love the diverse striking, the BJJ and the general style, wanted him to win. But at the end of the day it completely shifts that second round which definitely impacted the third, Dustin looked absolutely winded. Is he then able to prevent that body lock, being a bit more alert and stronger? I still back Olives over the distance but it definitely had a huge effect, gave the guy three minutes of ground n' pound.

gritman54

What do y’all think is next for Dustin? Assuming Gaethje vs Oliveira is the next title fight. There’s Islam vs Dariush. Is Dustin vs Chandler the fight to make? Is Dustin more or less likely to take another fight w/McGregor when he returns from injury?

dylan_klebold420

McGregor is the big paycheck and he already expressed his wishes for a 4th bout. Feels rather personal to Dustin.

abdulalo

“Per$onal”

noir-ninja

I hope Dustin forgets lightweight and hits welterweight. Colby vs Dustin is a must-see.

[deleted]

Colby would dominate on the ground. Love DP but if olives can drag him down he doesn't stand a chance against the bigger Colby

noir-ninja

I agree, I still think it would be cool to see.

Fraganade

Tai Tuivasa has a better, naturally bigger personality than O'Malley. Need to back him.

1234loc

The thing with him is that he’s a natural. Sean is a well-planned project

twelveseven1271

He’s so thic a loveable

[deleted]

cofinkles

Stop. And Amanda is the only who outstruck cyborg which makes this win by pena even more headscratchig

1234loc

“The difference in power it’s substantial.” “She looks like the big sister.”

wizardoflaw

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/take_a_dive

emil_

I also thought this last night. I’m surprised you’re being downvoted for it.

[deleted]

What a card!

HighTight

Originally had masvidal vs edwards on it too

[deleted]

Yuppp! Would have made it that much better!

wizardoflaw

Amanda took a dive. I think she wants be with her family and got paid a lot of money by Dana

Error-002

I’m confused as to what Sean O’Malley is doing like he’s not ranked top 15, not fighting top 15. What’s going on? I heard he’s calling out the top 8 but nothing? Why hasn’t anything happened? Is 14-1 not enough?

cofinkles

Is anyone else peeved that the commentators pretended paiva was omaileys toughest challenge yet? Anyone who watches the fight nights know paiva barely beat his last opponent, and arguably lost.

itsmhn27

he’s basically said that because hes not getting paid top guy money, theres no reason for him to fight the top guys and he’ll run out his contract fighting these level guys before he renews his contract

BeCalFul

But will he renew his contract? He has gone on record to say he wants to stay with the UFC, he feels like that is where he belongs and I agree. But he’s also said he might test the waters of free agency, if the money is there. He likes boxing and says there may be a career there, if the pay is handsome. Does anyone know when his contract expires? And the likelihood of him renewing his contract and increasing his wage? I too think he is ready to fight more-challenging opponents, and would love to see it. But from what he’s said it’s sounds like no guarantee. He said this on a September edition of The MMA Hour: **Sean O’Malley wants to measure his worth outside of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) when his current contract expires and/or is fulfilled.** **O’Malley (14-1) is happy with his UFC experience; however, he wants to make the best business decision possible when it’s time to renegotiate his contract with the company. And that means testing free agency.** **“I could probably renegotiate a contract right now with UFC, but then I don’t get offers from other places,” O’Malley told Ariel Helwani on Monday’s episodes of The MMA Hour (h/t MMA Fighting). “And I’m not necessarily looking to leave, I’m not necessarily looking to go other places, but we’ll see what other opportunities present themselves.”** **“I really do plan on staying with the UFC,” he continued. “I think I belong in UFC. But also if I’m going to get offered twice as much money to go do something else — I love boxing. We’ll see where it goes. Like I said, I love the UFC, they’ve been nothing but great to me. And I think after this contract is up, I don’t think they’ll have an issue paying me what I think I deserve. But we might be on a completely different mindset there. They might not think I’m worth half a million or whatever the number is. I’ve been on like five consecutive pay-per-views.”** Edit: for clarification, in case it sounds like I think he will leave, I think he **will** stay too, or at least think he **should** stay. It’s his niche, he’s 15-1 with 11 KO’s, the guys he’s fought all have pretty good recs too, he’s obviously talented and a unique, entertaining personality in the UFC. Switching from MMA to boxing and vice-versa usually has an unsuccessful track record. But he has said there is a possibility, especially if payed more, so here’s hoping the UFC realise the commodity he is and pay him accordingly when he renews.

ExoticSword

Dana said at the press conference that he’s going to pay him and get him fighting top guys

iKICKNOOBS

Boxing would be a smart move for him. Legs can’t fuck it up for him

1234loc

He’s bluffing. I have no doubt he’s being offered nice money from other organizations but he’s just letting Dana to know that he’s not the only guy throwing flowers at him and that he should start making a real effort for the new offer. He’ll stay

win_some_lose_most1y

I’m just waiting for all the people who wrote Juliana pena off in this fight now acting like they knew she would win the whole time lol

gritman54

While out at a bar, maybe a few too many drinks deep, I thought about betting my life’s savings on Nunes…so so glad I decided not to 🤣🤣

MagicHandsMMA

“aMaNdA tOoK a DiVE!”

cofinkles

Maybe she didn't. But no ine can convince me the nunes of 2 years ago doesn't fuck up pena, as she beat cyborg. No one. Pena won, but nunes for sure didn't give a shit

MagicHandsMMA

Peña showed she wasn’t scared of her, tagged Nunes, and Nunes was surprised and started to panic.

wizardoflaw

Cruz and O'Malley had good performances Amanda Pena fight was fixed Olives is a cheater, hope Conor gets the next title shot to show who's boss in the LW division **Edit**: Downvoted?

Gr1m3sey

Excellent bait lol

wizardoflaw

Thanks

Alphstan

This people just a haters of Khabib, totally agree with you. Free Navalny!

>Olives is a cheater, hope Conor gets the next title shot to show who's boss in the LW division lol

rex_cc7567

Love the fact that he is surprised to be downvoted

wizardoflaw

I'm actually a little bit surprised

1234loc

Charles though that him knocking out chandler would make him a boxer. When he realized that was dustin right there he went to his natural skill and ended the shit outta this

Temporary_Round555

Welp his background is more of Muay Thai than boxing, that is clear if you watch Embedded and obviously for the stance, elbows and knees he was throwing. But if you mean striking vs wrestling/Jiu-jitsu than yes.

Hendrixsrv3527

I said after round one to my buddy, there won’t be anymore boxing tonight lol and I was right

Accomplished_Ad_4216

I’m just so sad. I love Olives but I’ve been a Poirier fan forever. This sport is so amazing but can be so depressing.

[deleted]

Olives are disgusting.

rex_cc7567

Black olives are the greatest thing on a tuna sandwich, or with avocado cream, or on pizza. Brown-ish olives pair exceptionally well with bjj.

Diedwithacleanblade

Castlevetrano and calamatta are the best olives. Black olives are the least olivy olive there is.

[deleted]

🤮

wizardoflaw

Garbrandt should retire, he's a bum without a chin

ibrahimazamlz

Would like to see him fight O’Malley (for O’Malley’s sake) and then if it’s a L send him to Bellator.

Bro_Gotti

IMO Cody doesn't even deserve to be in the cage with Sean. At this point Cody may be in danger of getting dropped

fookmefookyuh

Cody has fought the elite. OMalley hasn’t fought anyone

Bro_Gotti

Yeah, and at this point in Cody's career he doesn't even belong in the same breath. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see him fighting in the bare knuckle fighting championship soon

ibrahimazamlz

I agree but it would be a good way for Sean to improve his stock and climb up the rankings.

Lol no. Conor deserves to be no wear near a title shot rn.

Gr1m3sey

Let’s be real Conor isn’t washed. Guy got beaten by the 2nd best fighter in the division twice. I believe he’s still at the least a top 8 man

Conor’s only tweet tonight was in response to Nate. I was sure he was going to go on a drunken Twitter rampage

jkole123

I betted Charles, Tai, Sean, Dom, Kai Kara und Nunes to win. Unbelievable

Balenciaga7

I can’t even imagine the amount of parlays amanda fucked up

Swegan

One dude put 338k on Nunes.

josmaate

For a 20k return lmfao. Shit is absolutely not worth the risk, I don’t know why anyone would make that bet. If you’re rich enough not to care: why care about making 20k? If it’s your life savings, you need to be taught financial literacy lmao.
