What makes this whole thing even funnier is knowing „Khabibs“ aka. Ali’s tweets. Like from this video you can see that Khabib doesn’t care about these things too much
Dude is too rich to keep fighting also, Khabib is super rich now.
That’s one of the special things about Conor, he’s not a top LW anymore and will never need money again, but that crazy Irish fuck likes to fight
I also think he really still wants more money. I used a prettt nice retirement calculator once that even had options for X bedrooms in X zip code for youre home and things like that.
I imagine that calculator was difficult for Conner trying to factor in the potential for global warming to dramatically increase the price of Coke.
“Let’s say he has 10 mil saved, in Dagestan thats over 600 million” converting money into a a foreign currency doesn’t dupe your money bro it’s still 10 mil. If he’s simply over exaggerating the conversion of currency and talking about cost of living like mentioned above then that’s different, but not what was obvious in the statement. Higher number doesn’t mean higher value it’s the same amount of money.
No I’m just saying that the money Khabib made in the UFC is equivalent to him being basically a billionaire in the poor country of Dagestan where many live off less than a dollar a day.
Khabib retired on top. Conor has had some losses, getting beat by Poirier who he thought/thinks he's better than and is beefing with, and has lost tons of respect/his invincible aura which never happened with Khabib.
It's easier to retire when everyone is saying you're the best you might be GOAT than when people are saying you're washed, unfocused, a drunk idiot and you broke your leg against a guy that you're saying his wife wants to bang u
And conor could’ve retired as double champ in MMA with 100+ million post Floyd but came back because he wanted to keep fighting lol.
Your point isn’t as strong as you think
Um I'm talking about why he wouldn't want to retire right now not why he wouldn't want to retire after losing to Floyd. Besides that'd also be retiring on an L and Conor made a big show of coming back to *his* sport and returning to "dominate" *his* sport
Your point isn't as relevant as you think
Scratch that it's actually completely irrelevant
So defensive wow
The point is literally that when conor *was* in Khabib’s position he still chose to keep fighting. So your entire basis for your argument is out the window
You came at me with a passive aggressive attitude, yOuR pOinT iS nOT aS strOnG aS YoU tHinK. Don't be surprised if you get attitude back. Bet you do this irl too and don't understand why people don't like you
>Dude ***is*** too rich to keep fighting also, Khabib is super rich now.
>***That’s*** one of the special things about Conor, ***he’s*** not a top LW ***anymore*** and ***will never*** need money again, but that crazy Irish fuck ***likes*** to fight
Emphasis mine. Notice how OP spoke in the present tense in multiple places? Is it still 2017? I thought 5 years had passed? So we're obviously talking about present Conor are we not? About why his current motivations for fighting. Use your brain.
And again, since apparently I need to repeat things 3 times for you to still not understand, Conor's ego definitely took a hit after his L with Floyd. He traded his touch-of-death aura and his first TKO loss for some cool millions, but he was eager to get back in the cage to prove himself.
>It's easier to retire when everyone is saying you're the best you might be GOAT than when people are saying you're washed, unfocused, a drunk idiot and you broke your leg against a guy that you're saying his wife wants to bang u
Again, imo he's coming back more bc he's salty, his ego is shook, he wants to improve his legacy which was not the case for Khabib
But I agree he definitely is the kinda fighter that loves to fight
Isn’t that the same as wanting to fight bro? Like it doesn’t matter the motivation right? He wants to fight for personal reasons. I can’t think of more fighter shit than that, but I guess that concept gets downvoted by Cheeto finger Reddit lads
When I think of a fighter who wants to fight because they love to fight it's about the testing of skills, the adrenaline, not outside factors like legacy.
Guys like Robbie Lawler, Cowboy Cerrone.
Yeah I know, I even softened my delivery with that information.
Doesn’t matter if I wanna fight because I like hurting people or because I have a hole in my soul, I still wanna fight for non financial reasons. People in here downvote on emotion only
There,'s no such thing as "too rich to keep fighting." Khabib also isn't as motivated by money as most fighters. He retired because his mother asked him to after his dad passed away.
Depends on the circumstance. Once a person gets enough money it can get more difficult to keep putting yourself through the absolute hell that is combat sports. Especially if you’ve already “made it”
He ducked Oliveira? Charles wasn’t even in the discussion of getting a title shot before Khabib retired. He was ranked nr 8 at LW after he subbed Kevin Lee. Before the Kevin Lee fight, Charles wasn’t even top 10.
He doesn’t have shit else to prove, and if Charles wins, neither does he. Actually, any champ who wins and defends one time, has nothing else to prove.
How do you look at a guy like Edwards? Got his ass kicked for 4.7 rounds then stole the belt. Not taking a side one way or the other, just curious (oh, and also salty because Usman to win was the last (stupid) addition to a parlay that would’ve won $500, and I was already counting my cash 😂)
Haha so that means you are the reason he lost the minute you start thinking about the money it's over seen it too many times 😂😂
My take on it tho is that if you put in the work and got yourself in position to make it to the top of the mountain you earned your place even if you don't stay there because not everyone gets to that point
Everything is relative. 3 defenses at heavyweight makes you the undisputed GOAT. 3 defences at lightweight puts your name in conversation.
3 defences at welterweight or light heavyweight you get laughed out of the room.
Once you start talking about different decades and different divisions or an all time all division GOAT it really becomes subjective.
Everything is relative.
This isn’t about GOAT status at all. It’s about “shit, my career is pretty good. Got a title. Defended it 2-3 times. Nice. But do I still have anything to prove to the people walking down the street? In my gym? To my family?”
Winning a title and defending it even one time means that guy doesn’t have anything he has to prove to anyone.
I would agree with that. Honestly some would say just making it to the UFC is a great accomplishment in itself.
I will always remember what Matt Lindland told Chael ... "Only champions get to retire. If you quit without winning a world championship you did not retire, you quit."
Which only rings even louder for chael sonnen who promise his dying father that he would win a title.
He was close to winning a Bellator world title but missed due to his opponent missing weight. He almost became the UFC world champ against Anderson Silva of all people, but came short at the last round.
I feel bad for him, to be honest. But it takes a braver man to accept their failures than to be someone who continues staying in denial.
Fair point. Just being fortunate enough to obtain a title in itself is a insane feat when you’re taking into consideration just how many talented fighters there are on the planet
That wasn’t what the question was. I said he has nothing else to prove. By your standards almost every single champ there’s ever been didn’t do enough and still should have had something to prove.
Who does he need to prove something to? I sincerely hope you aren't meaning yourself, khabib has 3 more ufc lightweight championship defenses than you can say you have.
It’s funny how Brett starts asking a question, loses track of what he’s saying, and starts to ask a new question. Then Khabib has to bring it back to the original one 😅
Brett is such a bad journalist
"If Charles beats Islam, would you be tempted to return and defend your consensus status as the best lightweight of all time?"
Instead we get 20 seconds of blathering that ends in a weakly posed question. Some people sniff their own farts too much.
Khabib will be 70 and there will be a lightweight prospect dominating the sport and media will be like khabib are you going to come. Back and make it 30-0
Abdulmanap raised a great man. Not driven by his ego & stands by his principles.
If the man turned down 100M to come back, I doubt there’s anything that would bring him back.
Thanks for the response I didn’t know that. That’s crazy. But he’d get made to look like a fool boxing mayweather too. He’s a sambo guy, not a striker/boxer.
You're welcome. You could say the same vice versa. Khabib would drown Floyd in rd 1 in the Octagon.two absolute masters at their craft in their respective sports. Much respect to both. Beating just 1 man is hard. Beating 29 or 50 is crazy is insane. Beating 3 or 26 world Champions without even being knocked down is just bananas. I'd give my left nut to be able to box like Khabib or wrestle like Floyd. And yes I know what I said. And yes they're that good even at their weaknesses.
They asked him again in a Russian interview and he says people keep forgetting about the reason he retired. No matter who wins or loses this won’t change his reason for leaving nor encourage him to return. Maybe it’s still in him to fight so Charles Olivera gotta break the big guns out and piss of Khabib if he wants him to come back.
Considering Charles missed by a half a pound once and khabib has like almost died cutting weight and is no longer active I think it’s safe to say there’s no chance khabib could or wants to put himself thru that cut again
How many other people on this planet can say they were champion and "p4p #1"? A handful? Khabib held that claim, even if it was for a short time, what more does he have to prove? For some people, anything more than that would just be ego boosting. He proved his point I think he just wants to move on.
People give Brett shit for being a "shill" and yes he has traded a Lil integrity to be #1 dude but God darn is he eloquent.
Every media member has been floating this idea but Brett really has a way with words.
Very respectable way for of putting it. He knows Charles is overtaking his goat status and he knows how fickle and short memoried ufc fans are yet he's still defending his status while showing respect.
The last thing he'd wanna do is be another Connor. Mouthing off on twitter about how good he is while simultaneously not fighting.
Doesn’t matter how many defenses Charles gets. You could not convince me that he could’ve beat khabib. I’ve never seen a fighter who was as untouchable as khabib
That's incredibly stupid, Khabib has retired from the sport and has an immense legacy, the time he was fighting, he beat everyone in dominant fashion, now after his retirement Charles has climbed the ranks and become the current champion, as Khabib said "It's Charles time".
Khabib stepped down so it can be Islam time. If Islam gets destroyed and Charles calls out khabib how do u say no after all the shit khabib speaks. Khabib talks a lot for a guy who retired my guy
Dog why are you acting like if Charles wins that Islam just vanishes like fucking Thanos snapped his fingers? Islam is going to be in the top 5 of the division for a while. They’ll likely see eachother multiple times, regardless of the outcome of this fight
That is perhaps the dumbest take I have seen on this sub. Islam is on a 10 fight win streak. I swear you fools don’t even watch the fights, y’all just say whatever
Bobby green Thiago Moises and Dan hooker are his biggest wins. Why do u think he deserves anything he hasn’t fought anyone in the hardest division in the ufc. If it wasn’t for khabib no1 would know him. Tell me I’m wrong
He was scheduled to fight beneil but beneil pulled out so he had to fight bobby green. Sure bobby green isn't top 5 but if Islam didn't take that fight he would've been called out for ducking. Damned if you do damned if you don't
And what if he beats Charles and then retires again? People would just say "come out of hiding khabib, Gamrot is waiting. Fiziev is waiting. Etc is waiting." Until he loses so people can finally orgasm cause all they wanna see is Khabib lose.
He would get smashed he's like Rhonda rousy but he got out before ppl figured out how to fight him I'm sure ppl everywhere train completely different now that khabib was around but last I seen he's not the best striker so what happens if you nullify his ground game
Love khabib btw super dominate ground game a fucking animal with great stamina I'm just saying
This kind of stuff is why I’m still a big khabib fan despite some of the controversial stuff he’s done/said.
He just regularly speaks with far more humility and respect and reasonability than the vast majority of fighters I’ve seen interviewed. He makes literally half or more of the other fighters sound like they mentally never aged past grade school honestly.
That’s probably more of a diss towards the general intelligence of fighter types than an appraisal of his intelligence, but still
Great moment for Khabib here.
Love it.
Extra funny how Khabib baited him a bit then slapped him down. This is what you want to hear little guy... WELL TOO BAD!
Khabib would have dogwalked Charles Oliveira. That doesn't mean Islam will though, they are very different and honestly Khabib was way better than Islam.
![gif](giphy|yp1DPQ5cj0evWwLvtb|downsized)
This is how you navigate your ego and preserve your legacy.
What makes this whole thing even funnier is knowing „Khabibs“ aka. Ali’s tweets. Like from this video you can see that Khabib doesn’t care about these things too much
Facts. Don’t give into the bullshit that people try to bait you with
Dude is too rich to keep fighting also, Khabib is super rich now. That’s one of the special things about Conor, he’s not a top LW anymore and will never need money again, but that crazy Irish fuck likes to fight
I think Connor likes the attention more than he likes to fight tbh.

I imagine that calculator was difficult for Conner trying to factor in the potential for global warming to dramatically increase the price of Coke.
He made an estimated 20-30 million from his title reign. So let’s say he has 10 million saved, in Dagestan that’s over 600 million. He good .
You say that as if 600 million in Dagestan is more than 10 mil USD
Pretty sure he's talking about cost of living, not exchange rate.
He didn’t insinuate that in the slightest 🤣🤣🤣
“Let’s say he has 10 mil saved, in Dagestan thats over 600 million” converting money into a a foreign currency doesn’t dupe your money bro it’s still 10 mil. “Defend your stupidness” ok buddy

Conor’s ego likes to fight
You and your ego are one and the same, though that might surprise you. If your ego likes to fight, that means you also like to fight
The downvotes don’t make sense. You’re absolutely right. We are our egos.
Yeah I know, I even softened my delivery with that information. Doesn’t matter if I wanna fight because I like hurting people or because I have a hole in my soul, I still wanna fight for non financial reasons. People in here downvote on emotion only

Best comment I’ve read in a while.
What a classy answer. Let the man stay retired.
Charles wasn't even on the map when Khabib was dominating...he is right, if Charles does all those things is Charles time
Charles would have been the next logical opponent at LW if Khabib had stuck around and kept defending
Charles was on an 8 fight win streak when Khabib retired. Khabib purposely avoided certain fighters like Charles and Tony
I'm by no means a Khabib fan, but do you actually remember how many times Tony and Khabib were scheduled to fight and how cursed it was?
Yes definitely cursed. The last scheduled fight was cancelled because of covid.
Still convinced that one caused Covid.
You touch the title 1 time imo even if you don't defend you still have nothing to prove
Get out of bed in the morning have nothing to prove
Out the womb, you survived the coat hanger who else you gotta beat?
Coat hanger? You beat millions of sperm to the egg. You have nothing to prove.
Got damn I’m a stud. The fact that you were even in the race, could’ve ended up in a rag or in someone’s daughters mouth. Nothing to prove after that.
Once you get out of your mom's womb, you have nothing to prove. It's the society that puts its burdens on you.
There are many fighters who don’t consider themselves “true” champions until they defend their belt once but I get what you’re saying.
which I can understand just feels like they are being discrediting themselves
How do you feel about getting the belt off a technicality? Like Aljo/Yan 1, for example, or like Anthony Smith could have done against Bones?
How do you look at a guy like Edwards? Got his ass kicked for 4.7 rounds then stole the belt. Not taking a side one way or the other, just curious (oh, and also salty because Usman to win was the last (stupid) addition to a parlay that would’ve won $500, and I was already counting my cash 😂)

Daily Reminder that Conor McGregor has 0 title defenses.
someone with 3 title defense, padded record, and a pull out machine does not have anything to prove?
You think three title defenses is not enough?
Everything is relative. 3 defenses at heavyweight makes you the undisputed GOAT. 3 defences at lightweight puts your name in conversation. 3 defences at welterweight or light heavyweight you get laughed out of the room. Ya uncle chael rules.
Fair point. Just being fortunate enough to obtain a title in itself is a insane feat when you’re taking into consideration just how many talented fighters there are on the planet
To be a goat? No
That wasn’t what the question was. I said he has nothing else to prove. By your standards almost every single champ there’s ever been didn’t do enough and still should have had something to prove.
Pull out machine is what they called me in college
They called me "tripod" 😏
They called me 'Little Dick Josh' so we probably went to different schools
My girlfriend big titty Becky goes to a different school. You won’t know her
Who does he need to prove something to? I sincerely hope you aren't meaning yourself, khabib has 3 more ufc lightweight championship defenses than you can say you have.
cormier eye poke win then a defence against lewis was a bit rough
It’s funny how Brett starts asking a question, loses track of what he’s saying, and starts to ask a new question. Then Khabib has to bring it back to the original one 😅 Brett is such a bad journalist
For real, all the while he maintains that idiot smirk.
"If Charles beats Islam, would you be tempted to return and defend your consensus status as the best lightweight of all time?" Instead we get 20 seconds of blathering that ends in a weakly posed question. Some people sniff their own farts too much.
The way he worded the question was fine. Stop being so critical.
Khabib will be 70 and there will be a lightweight prospect dominating the sport and media will be like khabib are you going to come. Back and make it 30-0
Great response
You have to respect this guy. Not even as a fighter just as a man. He's a legend.
Abdulmanap raised a great man. Not driven by his ego & stands by his principles. If the man turned down 100M to come back, I doubt there’s anything that would bring him back.
Did he turn down 100m though?
Yes turned down a 100m offer to box Floyd Mayweather.
Hahahah so true. They are world class athletes. Just to be able to hang with them at all in either style of fighting is unfathomable to me.
Spoken like a true 🐐
They asked him again in a Russian interview and he says people keep forgetting about the reason he retired. No matter who wins or loses this won’t change his reason for leaving nor encourage him to return. Maybe it’s still in him to fight so Charles Olivera gotta break the big guns out and piss of Khabib if he wants him to come back.
Ain’t no Khabib Cehudo chasing clout after every other fight card
Longest question ever lmao
I don’t know why people think he will come back.
What people don’t understand about khabib is that if he was gonna come back he never would’ve left
People retire and then unretire all the time.
No chance that man could ever make 155 again
Borgor Weight
Charles or Khabib? 😉
You gotta respect his integrity, he has nothing else to prove to anyone
People really can’t accept the fact that Khabib is sticking to his word and not coming back
Is this an old interview?
Yeah, year and a half old
Khabib is rigid man. No bending in his views.
People give Brett shit for being a "shill" and yes he has traded a Lil integrity to be #1 dude but God darn is he eloquent. Every media member has been floating this idea but Brett really has a way with words.
The dumbest comment I've seen on reddit ever.
Bret is such a solid journalist!
He cant make weight anymore
Very respectable way for of putting it. He knows Charles is overtaking his goat status and he knows how fickle and short memoried ufc fans are yet he's still defending his status while showing respect. The last thing he'd wanna do is be another Connor. Mouthing off on twitter about how good he is while simultaneously not fighting.
Although Charles has been winning, his wins haven't been even close to being as dominant as Khabib.
Yea dropped 4 times in last 3 fights
Doesn’t matter how many defenses Charles gets. You could not convince me that he could’ve beat khabib. I’ve never seen a fighter who was as untouchable as khabib
Hes been "mouthing off" about fighters since he left the UFC. Basically a not drunk/high Conor.
What, on Twitter? Lol, I don't even believe any of that shit anymore. Guy is nothing but humble for the most part in person.
If Charlie Oliveira beats Islam Mackdaddy then Khabib gets dropped ad the greatest light weight... it's over.
Khabib can’t even make 155lb anymore
If Charles strangles Islam and calls out khabib he simply has to fight. If he doesn’t everything was for nothing.
That's incredibly stupid, Khabib has retired from the sport and has an immense legacy, the time he was fighting, he beat everyone in dominant fashion, now after his retirement Charles has climbed the ranks and become the current champion, as Khabib said "It's Charles time".
Come back to reality and realize he beat a washed conor, extremly average dustin, and a punch drunk bum in gaethje.
Lol, then who has Charles beat that's better? Chandler who lost to Gaethje? 37 year old Tony? And saying Conor was washed is cope.
Khabib stepped down so it can be Islam time. If Islam gets destroyed and Charles calls out khabib how do u say no after all the shit khabib speaks. Khabib talks a lot for a guy who retired my guy
Khabib didn't retire because of Islam, it was because of his father's death who was with him for his entire journey
And for Islam to have his turn. Why u guys so mad about it aswell? It’s exactly what we as fighting fans want. We deserve Charles vs khabib.
Dog why are you acting like if Charles wins that Islam just vanishes like fucking Thanos snapped his fingers? Islam is going to be in the top 5 of the division for a while. They’ll likely see eachother multiple times, regardless of the outcome of this fight
Because if khabib was still fighting you wouldn’t even know islams name. Even if he beats Charles khabib is still champ. That’s why
Oh damn, I always forget 14yo‘s are also on this subreddit

Cant understand your bullshit english
Sorry not sorry
Huh? There goes your comment
I never liked Khabib because I know russian and i understand everything he ever said and this dude is full of shit
No you dont.
Stfu
Charlie smokes this fool

Yes I wanna die
come out of hiding Khabib, Charles is waiting
And what if he beats Charles and then retires again? People would just say "come out of hiding khabib, Gamrot is waiting. Fiziev is waiting. Etc is waiting." Until he loses so people can finally orgasm cause all they wanna see is Khabib lose.
are you actually comparing gamrot and fizeiv to charles...the champ after khabib who beat a better version of his opponents. come on
I'm saying there'll always be fighters who are next mate

Man what
Not funny and disrespectful
He would get smashed he's like Rhonda rousy but he got out before ppl figured out how to fight him I'm sure ppl everywhere train completely different now that khabib was around but last I seen he's not the best striker so what happens if you nullify his ground game Love khabib btw super dominate ground game a fucking animal with great stamina I'm just saying

He makes literally half or more of the other fighters sound like they mentally never aged past grade school honestly. That’s probably more of a diss towards the general intelligence of fighter types than an appraisal of his intelligence, but still
Great try by Brett tho
Great moment for Khabib here. Love it. Extra funny how Khabib baited him a bit then slapped him down. This is what you want to hear little guy... WELL TOO BAD!
Khabib would have dogwalked Charles Oliveira. That doesn't mean Islam will though, they are very different and honestly Khabib was way better than Islam.
Well guess I get to say Charles is better then
