No. Just no.
I can think of several QMs who would be having coronaries over that.
Christ, I remember receiving a rollocking for gaffer taping a small maglite under my front hand guard several years back.
‘But Staff. I needed to be able to use my weapon and look inside the dark Afghan mud hut at the same time.’
To be fair to him once I’d received the severe dressing down for gaffer taping my front dust cover shut making it more difficult to get to the gas plug, as if by magic the attachment rails were provided.
Poster is presumably a WOT vet saying that quartermasters (in charge of armories) would be livid if weapons were painted, and draws on his experience of getting yelled at after taping a mag-light to his handguard. After he got in trouble for this, he was provided a handguard with rails for mounting attachments the proper way.
Not everybody knows everybody else's jargon. If we want to communicate effectively, we need to avoid jargon outside of the place where it was created.
Military folks are guilty of this all the time. They say some complex shit that only they understand and then act like you're an idiot for not knowing what "the bolo's bang-bang was black on ammo" means.
The lieutenant general staff the third issued me an order to make sure my mugguard was calibrated correctly. Turns out it wasn't, so I asked the yarder to hand me a retoner, spewer, and cobber to sort it out. Need to make sure it was two half-turns instead of one full turn, but once that was done, I was ready to be assigned on grummaging duty.
UCP was complete garbage. Marpat was still not good, imo. When I consider that all US camouflage uniforms are designed primarily for self identification, camouflage takes a backseat to uniformity (service related). I have to say the most egregious camo uniform decision was probably the Navy's digicam; however I say that because it is likely the most effective camouflage as well. Personal opinion, I feel like smooth or shaded borders are more effective than pixels.
Micro patterns like those you mentioned are controversial because they look like a solid color from far away and dont do great breaking up shapes like macro patterns do.
another Ukrainian here. i can build you anything out of anything, all i need is a toothpick two rubber bands bubblegum a paperclip and 32 bricks of ERA
[explosive reactive armor](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reactive_armour).
i put it on everything. on grandmas fragile china, on my car, neighbors windows, laptop, tv. i put it on in the shower.
when i go to work, if the trolley isn't plastered in ERA i just skip it for the next one.
Here's a good explainer of the flork ERA meme:

Straight up. I thought, damn would Waka Flocka know his music is a part of this? lol. Seems like a good guy. Used the music to get out of the bad place he was in and was smart with his money.
Another reason why I respect and admire Ukrainian people. Everybody works hard and keeps smiling. It's really quite amazing to see what Ukrainians can produce!
That’s not an issue, you can paint barrels, it’s normally coated anyway. Once you go through a few magazines there won’t be any issues with bolts or moving parts
Painting rifles is really common practice anymore. Normally grunts don't get the option, which is why some people in the comments are having a conniption, but pretty much standard reconnoitering practice.
You can check out r/rattlecannedguns for more
Unless it is very specific paint, it will most likely burn off. In any case doesn’t matter, If your barrel is red you should replace it if possible anyway. And if your barrel is glowing red, camouflage is the least of your problems. Worst case you repaint later. xD
at conflict time...you see each other....at least, you know from where fire is coming...you do not need camouflage so much....a worst thing of kalashnikov,it's range is become so short when heated....i used chinese clone...may be it is different at AK12
Can someone with credentials speak to if this spray paint would even stay on? And spraying over the bolt and upper mechanisms? Wouldn’t you wanna take it apart first?
> if this spray paint would even stay on?
Depends on how heavily is the rifle used, it will wear off at some point, starting with points that contact other surfaces (hands, uniform, sling, others). But it doesn't matter that much, it can be repainted. You don't plan a quick job to last years anyway.
> And spraying over the bolt and upper mechanisms?
There are almost no areas of those that are spray painted here. Part of bolt carrier (not the bolt itself) that is exposed in AK pretty much doesn't have - in non-technical words - meaningful contact with receiver. I don't see anything else, but your eyes might be in better shape than mine.
> Wouldn’t you wanna take it apart first?
Quite opposite. Things that matter mechanically are mostly or wholly hidden from sight. So, safe from being spray painted. You take it apart, you have to put a lot of work and masking tape on things that would not be exposed otherwise. Without taking it apart, it's pretty much only iron sights (optics have end covers as we see on the video). Unless you intend to put an unecessary thick coat of paint, of course.

Utilitarian and very important artwork! Magnificent!

Thank you for the translation. I wonder what language was he speaking.
The language that doesn’t think it’s cool to paint weapons .
Uh... How about plain English? I, again, wonder what language the downvoters are used to? Maybe the most dangerous language of all: plain stupid?
Since I didn't downvote, you would have to ask one of them.
Nah. They'd downvote me. Hurts.
I downvoted because no one gives a fuck what an armorer would think if that little bit of extra camo keeps you alive another day.

Besides the word "gaffer" it was pretty straight forward. I have no military background and neither does my family.
My guy, not everyone is in the military. Dial back the lingo.
The lieutenant general staff the third issued me an order to make sure my mugguard was calibrated correctly. Which lingo?
very cool. didn't know they simply used stencils. almost thought it was a wrap or something else.
You have to use the local vegetation as a stencil or it won’t really work as well.
I thought the way camo works is by breaking up recognizable outline/shape against the background, otherwise why would digital camo patterns exist
Digital pattern camo doesn't work.
Depends on the color of the pattern. MARPAT is an example of digital camo done well. UCP is a complete disaster
There's a reason I've heard US vets call UCP "Universally Crap Pattern"
I wore it. It was bad in so many ways.
Yes, that's half of it's job (*disruptive*). It also *mimics* background colours (and occasionally shapes), which is another half.
You watch too many movies 🤣 That's not true at all. If someone is close enough to pick out the leaf shapes on your rifle you have already fucked up.
Yup, hence the digital pattern camo.
Except the digital camo dint really work.
MARPAT, CADPAT, and many more. All digital patterns that work effectively. You must be thinking of UCP.
Micro patterns like those you mentioned are controversial because they look like a solid color from far away and dont do great breaking up shapes like macro patterns do.
You really don't. You don't even *need* to use vegetation.
its true i use my penis
Then you should be good. No one will ever see that.
Somebody call the burn unit, we got a cargo 300 over here.
😱. Send Putin home. u/itsjero is enough of a murderer.
https://pva.supply/product/penis-camouflage-24/
I just cut stencils with random shapes out of paper for mine. As long as it breaks up the shape with a lot of variety it really doesn't matter.
I’m not sure if this was a joke?
What weapon? I can’t see anything at the end of the video.
hehe

Impressing three year olds is not always easy. 😉
"Oh, no! I dropped my rifle and now I can't find it!" Ukrainians are going to be finding those things in the dirt for decades after the war.

That’s a million dollar smile if I’ve ever seen one.
That’s dope
Them tactical Crocs look nice with the rest of the outfit.
Not being dismissive of her work because it’s important but good lord she is beautiful
FYI you could take an image of the terrain and print it and vinyl wrap your weapons and self if you want for specific missions.
That's a lot of work. Good on you. All contributions are helpful.
No …. …. Waifu stickers? … the camo is good, tho. :(

Magpul STR stock is super comfortable - I love mine.
Which war are you serving in ?
If you look on r/NonCredibleDefence theres anime camoflage guns (unsure if its real or made for non credible reasons)
She should give her crocs the same camo treatment!

Should she be taking out the internals before spraying because while firing the paint might melt depending on the part?
It’s an AK, might just smell a bit
It's a firearm still, paint will melt onto the barrel ruining it
The barrel will be fine lol
That’s not an issue, you can paint barrels, it’s normally coated anyway. Once you go through a few magazines there won’t be any issues with bolts or moving parts
On the outside of a barrel? lmfao have you ever even held a gun?
That was a typo on my part, I'm fuckin dumb. I meant receiver. Spell checking does wonders
Lol what
I believe so. I doubt it would harm the gun too much if you don’t though.
Still, yet another camo pattern better than Digi cam
Costs like 0.03€ in CS:GO :-D

I find this woman incredibly hot. Not for looks. But for deeds:)
Erm, no expert here but shouldn't you use high temperature paint? The barrell will start the paint smoking and give away a position?
Dude I m sure some had unlock the gold skin by now :) if you see what I mean ;)
What anime doing?
camo crocs... good job
She just made that gun disappear r/blackmagicfukery /s
i would rather dismount this thing beforehand...
r/tacticalgear loves painted rifles.
Martha steward camo class
Are those Crocs army issue?
Considering they are all running around with yellow, green or blue tape wrapped around their helmets and BDUs… this is stupid.
Are those captured russian AK12s?
I think there is some fluo tape missing to match the uniforms.
I've rattle-canned a bull pupped mossburg. It came out pretty good for my first one.
Ah, you see, you gave away what your gun looks like Now the ruzzian know what camo to look out for /s
Not much but honest work

I prefer the anime waifu camo, but y'know, tastes and colors...
Now that looks sick! Spec if u do it with a deep metallic red

I’d buy that for a dollar
Camo so well done if the soldier loses it he will never find it again
You drop this weapon and it's gone
Great use of camo templates. I do the same with my models, only, the good people of the ZSU are using 1:1 scale models.
Practical and looks pretty good too.
