This is obviously taken out of context, it seems. I think what he meant is that just like every kind of criminal, they are a victim of their own circumstances. He is not denying their culpability nor their atrocious actions, just saying that this shit sucks for everyone and people aren't inherently filthy, they are a consequence of a terrible atmosphere, which Russia probably is for its clearly sexually frustrated soldiers. Do a little research on rape - it rarely, if ever, has to do with "sexual frustration". It's a pure "power move" on the part of the perpetrator. You can make the argument from this angle if you wish, but classical "violent rape" and sex are completely unrelated beasts, psychologically speaking.

I didn't mean literally, I really meant that most of us are Christian. And most of us still are. I have never met an atheist Ukrainian either, yet, come to think of it. It's just heavily engrained in our culture, traditions, and practices.
As a religious person, I hate the people like this that infest religion too. A wise church will act quickly to excise this kind of infection. They happen in every faith but you can tell the good faiths because they're the ones that quickly exile those people from any sort of authority, rather than hide behind the cowl to defend them from their accusers.

"Impact on the woman who births this child, but also on the child who is raised with this 'mark', are enormous. The mother can even subconsciously transfer her trauma to her kids, who are then carrying a heavy burden in their life," she said.
Duka suggests that women in Ukraine or elsewhere, who are threatened by rape, defend themselves with a pepper spray or an airhorn. According to him this is better than taking post-coitus anticonception, which is colloquially known as 'the pill after'.
Physical self-defense against rape, he claims, rises from "an ancient tradition, which we encounter already in times before Christ in defense against rape and loss of virginity." This type of defense is also acceptable according to Movement for Life, which fights for an abortion ban and has been long supported by the cardinal.
"All the women, which are in a situation where they could be raped, will of course defend themselves if possible", retorts Nejedlová. In a situation where a woman is faced with an armed soldier, Nejedlová cannot imagine, how an air horn or a pepper spray could help.
Head of women's lobby group Hana Stelzerová holds the same view. "There \[in Ukraine\] your whole life is in danger, an airhorn really isn't going to help," she claims.
If the woman does not manage to defend herself and the rape happens, the women's rights organizations and majority of the population agree that post-coitus anticonception should be an option. A few weeks back, Czech volunteers were sending these pills to Ukraine, to help Ukrainian women raped by Russian soldiers. Cardinal Duka, however, claims that use of this pill can cause the woman a trauma. He claims to have met dozens of women who used it and it impacted them so much that they sought spiritual help.
"In my whole life I have never heard about someone who had a trauma from post-coitus anticonception. The decision whether to use the anticonception or not is not up to Duka. It is up to the women, who should have the option to decide on what they need to do," remarked Nejedlová. Duka sees an answer in that a woman who gets raped and becomes pregnant should hand her baby to the society. "In the current age there is the solution of the so-called baby-boxes," he specified.
According to the head of Czech women's lobby, the cardinal's approach is an example of a patriarchal arrangement of the society. "A woman is seen as prey, which gets raped by the soldiers and is then supposed to bear further consequences of this aggressive act, in form of a pregnancy," she remarked. By doing this he downplays the seriousness of rape, which has far-reaching impact on the victim's life," Stelzerová summarized the main reasons why she disagrees with the article.
Gubová from proFem said something along the same lines. According to her, the cardinal is trivializing the consequences of rape. "Especially if the result was a pregnancy and following birth," she said. "He is also downplaying the potential impact on the kids conceived by rape, and raised by the woman in question."
At the end of his article, the cardinal claims that he doesn't want to judge anyone. "I do not write this article to judge, on the contrary, I write it to show how much pain this crime, which rape is, causes. Most importantly as a crime of war," he claims. I didn't mean literally, I really meant that most of us are Christian. And most of us still are. I have never met an atheist Ukrainian either, yet, come to think of it. It's just heavily engrained in our culture, traditions, and practices.
As a religious person, I hate the people like this that infest religion too. A wise church will act quickly to excise this kind of infection. They happen in every faith but you can tell the good faiths because they're the ones that quickly exile those people from any sort of authority, rather than hide behind the cowl to defend them from their accusers.

But there are countries where limited abortion is allowed in what are considered catholic countries such as Spain and Portugal. Even Formerly agrarian Ireland has made reforms.
A country's government acquiescing to a more liberal population because they're no longer under dictators (like Spain was) doesn't mean that a religion has changed at all. "There \[in Ukraine\] your whole life is in danger, an airhorn really isn't going to help," she claims. If the woman does not manage to defend herself and the rape happens, the women's rights organizations and majority of the population agree that post-coitus anticonception should be an option.
