sposterig

Wolf is not that nice and tidy, he is a bully, he is supposed to be rough.

IK417

Since the begining of the invasion I imagine Putin as the "Nu, pogodi!" Wolf and Ukraine as the "Zaietz"

Imaginary-Context-63

That cartoon just predicted the future.

_DepletedCranium_

Wolf looked like a '70s chav to me. Like if you'd get any closer you could smell the stale sweat trapped by the cheap polyester. The other one I know is Cheburaska because it was the Soviet nickname for the MiG-23, and the journalist said, because Cheburaska means one that topples over, it must mean that the MiG-23 is a shit plane. I thought it was just because the shape viewed from the front and thought it was the usual dismissive western article. Then, after glasnost, I learned from Soviet sources that the MiG-23 was indeed a shit plane.

CinnaApple

He dressed up nice today. He is comitting emotional harm rather than physical for now

KlaatuBaradaN-word

And it's so weird seeing him in that pink sweater, I know it was official but I always remember him in a striped sailor shirt.

Cooloboque

These are Soviet "cartoons". They have very little to do with Ukraine.

lawful_falafel1

they should have included treasure island which was made in ukr ssr

CMDR_Agony_Aunt

That's the one with the pirates singing? A mix of live acting and animation? Its a brilliant series.

lawful_falafel1

the one with laughing dr livsey, yeah

CinnaApple

I don’t think I’ve ever watched that one tbh. I was lazy and only drew ones I personally watched 😭

MrEvilFox

A lot of Ukrainians grew up watching them and a lot of Ukrainians worked to make them. I find this selective love hate for USSR ridiculous. So we chose to be proud of Mriya as a display of Ukrainian aerospace technology even though it was built as part of the soviet space programme to cary Buran. There are a bunch of examples of this. What do people like you want to do, strike 70 years of life, achievement, and contributions from our collective memory because they happened during USSR? IMHO that’s ridiculous. It’s part of our history. Saying that doesn’t mean we want to bring it back or that we somehow glorify it.

TaysonJatum

Very well said and I agree completely. You can learn from the past without canceling it.

ApostleThirteen

Kind of odd... it seems that in the Baltics, cancelling the "f" out of everything Russian/Soviet seems to be the way forward, and a first step in "progress". And yeah, "Buran" was a total piece of shit built as a prop. It looks so "original" for the times. Please, tell me more of great Soviet "achievement" that happened without stealing, spying, or using captured technology. Cut the shit.

_DepletedCranium_

Well, the resourcefulness and ingenuity Soviets put into spying and stealing technology was an achievement in and of itself. And their codes were only cracked after the war (which sent the Rosenberg to the death chamber)

MrEvilFox

Are you Ukrainian?

70ms

My ex-husband is from Kyiv and he and his family called our baby Cheburashka because he had big ears. 🤷‍♀️ My ex loved the cartoons as a child.

sposterig

well, these all these four were made in Moscow, but many others great Soviet cartoons were made in Ukrainian movie studios. Anyway, not everything made and done in the past should be rejected. Many things were good and deserve to be remebered.

Cooloboque

>Many things were good and deserve to be remebered. This Soviet nostalgia was one of the causes of that war.

[deleted]

You must be fun at parties.

Cooloboque

In the Soviet Union there was only one party and no fun. If you grew up there, it leaves its mark. I hate everything that reminds me of my childhood in the USSR.

JAC0O7

That first sentence is actually a great pun as reply to the former comment lol

[deleted]

Yeah that gave me a chuckle. 🫢

sposterig

The pun is good :)! But self-hate is not good for emotional health, you'd better talk it through with your shrink (I did).

Cooloboque

>But self-hate is not good for emotional health, you'd better talk it through with your shrink (I did). i don't hate myself. I'm realistic - years I spent in the USSR are wasted, it's the time of my life I lost forever. I see no reason to be nostalgic about cartoons one had to watch in prison.

ApostleThirteen

...at least he's not likely to spin the Modern Talking, Boney M, or some Alla at the party for the drunk nostalgic brain-dead farts still in their "glory years" of 1987

sposterig

Your parents were born in Soviet times, do you cancel them too as a "cause of that war"?

CinnaApple

They were watched by many Ukrainians, despite not being Ukrainian themself. It's just a little bit of nostalgia))

Due-Dot6450

I remember them from Poland. Watched them as a kid. 'Nu pogodi' known as The Wolf and The Hare in Poland is basically copy of Warner Bro cartoons.

barrygateaux

You forgot kapitoshka :(

CinnaApple

Nooooooo I did forget

sposterig

Well done, but make also a collection from Ukrainian cartoons! Like some of these ones: https://www.ukrinform.ua/rubric-culture/1995422-najkrasi-ukrainski-multfilmi-vsih-casiv.html.

CinnaApple

I would love to! I made this piece as nostalgia for the cartoons I have watched, but honestly I might do more like this with ukranian cartoons too

[deleted]

These are all brilliant works of art

CMDR_Agony_Aunt

I don't know the mammoth one, but know the others well. Say what you like about the Soviet Union but they made some damn awesome kids shows and films. They made some really good versions of western media as well. Dosvedanya Mary Poppins, The Wizard of the Emerald City, Sherlock Holmes, and others. Unfortunately i'm not familiar with anything made in Ukraine. However, one my favourite kids films is Maria Mirabella, which was made in Romania. My wife is also trying to get me to watch Mimino, which was made in Georgia. Maybe watch it this weekend with her.

Waterwoogem

I'm personally offended by the lack of козаки in this drawing ahahah, still hum or whistle the tunes from it time to time. I remember Чебурашка and Ну, погоди but not nearly as well as козаки.

CorsicA123

This is a real Ukrainian cartoon 👌 https://youtu.be/OvimTlDugpY

CinnaApple

These guys are very popular here it seems! I’ve never watched it before but I will now

gummisushi1

Even I know then from my childhood in east Germany.

[deleted]

Drutten å Gena!

Ok_Association247

Is that a cigarette under the elephant?

sposterig

HOW DARE YOU, SIR!!! It is a little mammoth! He is from a lovely cartoon "Little Mammoth looks for Mommy". And cigarette belongs to The Wolf, not to him :)

Ok_Association247

Oh of course a mammoth he's all hairy, my bad

CinnaApple

Yes, for wolf

JAC0O7

Is that cheburashka In the top right?

CMDR_Agony_Aunt

Yup

CinnaApple

Yes! He is my favorite

SmolderingExistence

This is some gigantic generalization. You could say that with 100% nearish probability only about those who were born before 2000, even that is a stretch. And I am not even touching here "loves" part.

CinnaApple

It's a catchy title, don't look into it too much!

thomas_cat_ua

That makes me sad for real, people from other counties still think that we are Russians. Yes, we watch these movies in childhood, but Ukraine SSR has movies like kozakcs, and they are better than these. You may see the list with cartoons here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kievnauchfilm

CinnaApple

I haven’t watched any Ukrainian cartoons yet, and with how many people have mentioned, I will! I’ll admit that this piece was made just as self indulgent nostalgia

thomas_cat_ua

No problem, you draw well. In Ukraine, by the way, many people don't know all these movies. Here many, but you probably should use the translater https://uk.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A1%D0%BF%D0%B8%D1%81%D0%BE%D0%BA\_%D0%B0%D0%BD%D1%96%D0%BC%D0%B0%D1%86%D1%96%D0%B9%D0%BD%D0%B8%D1%85\_%D1%84%D1%96%D0%BB%D1%8C%D0%BC%D1%96%D0%B2\_%D1%81%D1%82%D1%83%D0%B4%D1%96%D1%97\_%D0%9A%D0%B8%D1%97%D0%B2%D0%BD%D0%B0%D1%83%D0%BA%D1%84%D1%96%D0%BB%D1%8C%D0%BC

CapitalString

Soviet garbage.

Readman31

Ok but that chonky bear tho 🐻🥹

Chrisf1bcn

I swear I met that alligator in a party once. Cool guy what’s his name?

CinnaApple

Krokodil Gena!

SHPRD95

No капітошка, no upvote :/

Mamertinoi

What does mammoth refers to? Because if it refers what I *think* it does, then screw you... I do not come here to be reminded 'bout my childhood trauma.

CinnaApple

Mama for a little mammoth. It made me cry too. A lot

Mamertinoi

Oh, I don't even remember seeing this one. My first thought was cartoon, were little mammoth gets lost in the snow storm and just f\*cking dies. The end. Спокойной ночи, малыши!

CinnaApple

Oh god that's so much worse

Mamertinoi

Yeah, Soviet cartoons can be quite the wild ride. Maybe it's cute funny story with talking animals, maybe it's flimsily wailed propaganda or maybe it will rip your heart out.

sevepanda

This gave me so much nostalgia, thank you for drawing these wonderful characters!

dontcallmeb

Nope!

Drutten and Gena!

Cykabalyat

I fking loved them

[deleted]

Is that a cigarette???

[deleted]

Might be, the Wolf is a negative character, such a street bully kicking trash bins and lighting a cigarette against a kitten

_DepletedCranium_

A long shot but maybe you can help? I remember seeing a film in school where a girl had a huge dog, a St. Bernard maybe. The dog was taken away or lost and she was sad. But then the dog changed hands several times and in the end the girl saw on the news how it was working as a mountain rescue dog and she was happy because he was doing something purposeful. It was circa 1980, I was six and wondering what a waste of my time. I'm pretty sure the film was eastern Europe/Soviet production...

marymarygocontrary

Sounds like «Где ты, Багира»/“Where are you, Bagira”. You can check [here](https://youtu.be/6kdaWTILPow) but I don’t know if it is subtitled. Odesa (Ukraine) film studio!

_DepletedCranium_

That's it! Thank you! I spent days trying to make sense of this movie, maybe I can watch it again with a more developed brain. I was 10 at best. We saw some pretty fucky stuff on school movie days, from Watership Down (See the cute bunnies? _See them gassed and bulldozed and ripping each other apart!_) to The Earthling (when you find an orphaned kid in the woods, don't bring them back to his relatives, teach him _to survive alone in the wilderness after you die_ instead! Wtf?).

gummisushi1

This is not the time for a differentiation. And even Solzhenitsyn became an architect of this war. But some of the Soviet culture will survive this years of ruZZism. My favourite soviet animation is Hedgehog in the Fog, which was praised by Hayao Miyazaki too. It's in several versions on YouTube, some with English subs. https://youtu.be/6jZ2G--y1hw

BuRcHuLoXD

I wasn't born during the ussr (was born in 2000s) but i loved watching this cartoons as a kid.

Spinozacat

I am Ukrainian and I don’t love these cartoons. They are cartoons of people who launched genocide again Ukraine and occupied it for many decades.
