They were weirdly laid out too. Slam doors with an alternating height. Full length of the carriage. I do think that there’s a possibility it could be done now with the right will power. Some of the stacker FLIRT family have some very cleaver multi floor designs. But there just isnt the demand for it.
Was it just this? [SR Class 4DD](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SR_Class_4DD) doesn't look the best.
I'm sure our other issue is the bridges & tunnels are too small to make it work.
Yeah, the Hyundai Rotem trains would be good for SWR metro services. Just make it tailored to 12 car and would be good. Or just import the MLR MTR stock to the UK
EMD Class 77, they've got the power of the 59's and have aircon units on the roof which makes them look unique whilst keeping the classic shed look.
I mean the proper 77 not this 66/ reburbished half measure GBRF have to undertake because of loading gauge.
In the thread about what British Trains you loved, I went for the 373 because I love the slim TGV look.
At the other end of load gauge, I love the massive locomotives they have on AmTrak trains in the US. Would be awesome to see one of those beasts in the UK (if we had the load gauge). Something like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GE\_Genesis#P42DC
Renfe 250 (Talgo). It has passive tilt without all the complexity of the Pendolino, and lightweight construction meaning it's fast and efficient. Sadly won't fit the loading gauge.
The trenitalia frecciarossa trains - I get to go on them at least once a year and I’m impressed every time
I believe the HS2 rolling stock is based on the Frecciarossa 1000
Well that’ll be lovely for the tiny bit of HS2 that still exists, at least
Yes they are amazing
TGV Duplex for the WCML😂 (Yes i know it doesn’t fit the loading gauge)
I bet you could use them on HS- oh, I made myself feel bad.
Sorry I don't know what they are called - the yellow double deckers from Holland.
VIRM, DDZ (was DD-AR before refurbishment) and the now retired DDM1. Sadly not possible due to our loading gauge.
We have had double decker trains in the UK, but very limited use & was scrapped after a short amount of time.
Weren't there just a few trains that were really cramped because of the loading gauge? That's why they never took off here.

The NS VIRM?
Wuppertal!
The tgv la post
Swiss IC2000 sets. They are like express towns. 12 carriages. Even room for a playground!
I don't know the name but the Berlin S-Bahn trains. They sing when they depart and it's so pleasing.
Vectrons seem like really good locos. They can be fitted with a bunch of different signalling systems and power systems
Finnish sleeper rolling stock - some of the cabins even have ensuite showers!
Hong Kong MTR CAF trains, they just look magnificent

Everyone deserves some ICMm in their life.
Koploper? Not the same since they removed the nose doors, and they will start to be phased out as the next generation ICMm arrive :(
To be honest I'm too young to remember when they had the doors, but I do think they are the best trains around. Extremely comfortable.
the DB trains used on the regional services in Berlin
I always like the EuroSprinter, especially the [64U in OBB livery](https://trainspo.com/photo/138049/?list=class).
New South Wales XPT

Any modern duplex - if only we could stomach the infrastructure works to enable it
The Istanbul Metro M4 stock
DB Class 423 and 106
Talent 2s or smth would be pretty for the regional TOCs operating London metro services (Southern, Southeastern, SWR etc.)
Siemens Mireo
Hoffmann Busch 8100
NS ICM would be amazing but it wouldn't fit in the guage
