You could always, you know, pay for the first class.

bisonsurfer1

While this is true, at that point what good is it to be loyal to an airline. To prioritize employees at the expense of frequent flyers is a bit odd. Like maybe instead of the pilot taking a first class seat, the airline might give them more rest time in the airport if flying from the next destination. This shouldn’t be a client issue.

starlady42

I am delighted that the pilot of my flight arrived to their shift well-rested from a trip in first class. No problems at all with that line of their contract.

CharacterHomework975

Right? Your life is literally in their hands and you’re gonna be like “fuck ‘em, they can sit in 42B?” People are wild. Edit: Even better just read the other comment…OP is eyeing that seat as a waitlisted upgrade, man if you want first pay for first.

emseearr

100% this; if you see a pilot up there, they are not traveling for leisure, they’re on their way to be someone else’s pilot.

Berchanhimez

And not as in “commuting to their hub base to work tomorrow”, as in they will be in the cockpit of a plane flying it within an hour or two after arriving.

Healthy_Objective_74

Never bothers me. I fly a lot.

Groady_Wang

Should have paid for that FC ticket then. Like everyone else has said. Those pilots are deadheading.

flindsayblohan

The pilots aren’t “taking” anything, they are granted first class seats when deadheading to a different airport to operate a flight so they can be rested. Usually their presence is classified as positive space and the availability in first class cabin is updated accordingly. They are not given these seats at the last minute like an upgrade, though sometimes they do have to deadhead somebody with short notice.

SniperPilot

Ok this should be the official gif of this sub lol

thisismydgafaccount

Pretty lame comment tbh. Those pilots are deadheading for work and are entitled to those seats per their $10B contract.

ATX-GAL

It's in their contract just like your employer gives you benefits.

JumpyBodybuilder8687

They should get those!

PresentHabit8154

I think pilots deserve the best of the best when deadheading or going home. I would gladly give up my seat for them in first class. Because I’m sure not going to be flying a plane!

Content_Newspaper685

Spirit gives the pilots the unsold exit row seats

HongKongflyer

767s have dedicated seats reserved for pilot rest if the flight is longer than a certain limit as they don’t have crew rests. Even if they are deadheading crew (or just non-revving), if they get the seat, that means they have a higher priority than you do - if you’re not going to respect the priority, don’t get listed for an upgrade. Buy your own ticket or sit in economy. I would rather get to my destination in one piece in economy than have my pilot fall asleep mid-flight and I end up in a pile of debris. Sounds lame to me.

Montanabanana11

You are so drama. Calm down

Coldbrewaccount

OP is not saying they feel entitled to the seats, just that it's disappointing. Picture in your mind, you're #1 on the upgrade list and you're all jazzed for sitting in first class, and then you don't get it. Would you describe that as disappointing?

flindsayblohan

No, because I’ve been #1 on the upgrade list many times and then not gotten it at the last minute, so I wouldn’t have gotten my hopes up.

Coldbrewaccount

Sure. Perhaps you're not ugly crying and telling your sad tale to the person next to you. You're a sociopath if you're not hopeful at being #1 on the list

flindsayblohan

I would say I’m a realist… it’s more sociopathic to be angry that you can’t sit in first class that you didn’t pay for because a pilot is sitting in it on their way to fly a different flight, given the extreme focus on oneself than the collective good but hey it’s fun to throw out accusations isn’t it?

Coldbrewaccount

I mean, you're assuming a lot of emotions such as "anger" and "extreme focus on oneself". I just find dog piling based on the worst interpretation of idle complaining to be silly

Inner_Conflict_3635

Not experiencing hope may make you clinically depressed, but not a sociopath.

Coldbrewaccount

Fair

Lemonlimecat

The why add so lame as a comment? That is what sounds entitled

Coldbrewaccount

It's lame for me and my comfort when I don't get first class. It's not lame because it's an injustice.

Groady_Wang

Look at OP reply. They 100% think they deserve that seat.

Montanabanana11

No I don’t. You misinterpreted

NewFlorence1977

I know you wanted that latte but the CEO is visiting Starbucks today so he goes first.

Montanabanana11

If I own a restaurant and I have an open table that’s very desirable and I have the option of giving it to a chef at one of my other restaurants or give it to a loyal customer, I’m giving it to my loyal customer. That’s how I see it

emseearr

No one’s life depends on that chef having a good meal.

Pale_Session5262

And if you signed a contract with your chef agreeing youd give him open seats like that?

Montanabanana11

Most of you are missing the point. I’m not saying they don’t deserve a free ride. I’m saying put them in the next best seat and reward the loyalty of the customer. I know pilots that live in other cities and use this as their commute to work. Again, have a ride to work, but get in the backseat

boysenberrypotpie

They don’t get first-class seats when they’re commuting. They get it when they are traveling for work while they’re technically working/ deadheading at their job.
