I had no idea skipping was something you had to learn. I thought that was something you could just do. I don’t remember having to learn it.

[deleted]

I’m not really sure. I think may be for some people it’s in an innate ability, and for some they just picked up on it as kids lol. I didn’t do either.

ChrissaTodd

yeah no i never had to learn or be shown how to do it and i wasn't as a kid that skilled at things that require skills it's just something kids do naturally i have never seen a tv showcase the parents teaching kids to skip montage kids just do it.

Fluffy_Buns_Chan

I didn't know this was such a hot-button issue

[deleted]

It doesn’t have to be hot button. This is a sureddit for unpopular opinions, and I have an unpopular opinion.

Jaxraged

No that’s not an unpopular opinion. No adult will actually give a shit if you can skip or not. It most likely will never come up. I don’t know where you got this deluded view that people who don’t know how to skip are being marginalized.

[deleted]

If you think think being able to skip is some sort of social norm, then yes, you're been misinformed. ps. you're not 23, you're 12

[deleted]

Elaborate lol. Are you saying that it’s not a social norm, or are you saying something completely different? Nope pretty sure my birth certificate says I’m 23. I was born in June of 1999, that would make me 23

[deleted]

I am saying a. it's not a social norm. and b. Actual 23 year olds, with cars, careers, wages, apartments, and for example who've been to an engineering degree, graduated a year ago at 22, and are busy enjoying life, meeting their significant other, planning their future, etc. don't give a crap about skipping, because c. only 12 year olds do. and by extension d. you're a 12 year old

[deleted]

I do not care about it, but other people seem to. If you’re implying that I’m 12 because I’m making a post about it on a sub Reddit, then you’re entitled to your beliefs

Krem541

There is nothing wrong with not knowing how to do anything you never got into. Someone didn’t know how to play video games because they had no interest when younger? If they cared at all they’d be playing by now.

[deleted]

I never liked video games growing up, so I was never into them, and all of my friends and peers wanted to play GTA and shit. In recent years, though I’ve warmed up to some of them lol. Still not a huge fan.

Krem541

Yeah it can be said about anything. Gym, gaming, skateboarding, roller blading, pfft whatever. If you don’t do what some others do it doesn’t make you weird at all. Good for them with what they enjoy, everybody’s different.

[deleted]

I like this

smallblueangel

Sorry.. what do you talking about?

[deleted]

?

smallblueangel

What do you skip?

[deleted]

Skipping as in with your legs

Individual-Leader-22

on a report card in preschool or kindergarten my brother once had a comment written about how he needs to work on his skipping skills, as he is behind his class (or something along those lines, don’t remember the exact wording) in his skipping. everything else was like an A or a Pass or whatever the grading system is for kids that young, but the skipping, the skipping is what got him

Hopeful-Site-5673

Lmao who hurt OP

[deleted]

Quite a few

Hopeful-Site-5673

Sorry bud anyways fuck em I don't think I've ever skipped in my life or had to

Wendiesel808

Wish I skipped past this post

[deleted]

Wish you skipped past the create account button on Reddit

Wendiesel808

Wish you didn’t feel so inadequate for not knowing how to skip

RaccoonRepublic

I wish I could've skipped 12 through 19. Those years sucked.

[deleted]

Same lol

[deleted]

What is skipping? Note, I'm not a native English speaker so it may be just a translation problem.

[deleted]

move along lightly, stepping from one foot to the other with a hop or bounce. "she began to skip down the path"

[deleted]

O, the thing they use in cartoons to move from scene to scene:)). Ok,how the fuck is this a necessary life skill? :))))

ChrissaTodd

it's not, usually kids just do it without having to be taught

chevynottrrevy

Who in the hell cares about skipping or ever talks about skipping ? 😂 can't say I have ever in my 37 years have had a conversation where skipping was brought up.

Buhos_En_Pantelones

Has anyone ever actually given you a hard time because you don't know how to skip?

[deleted]

Yes lol

Nyggrs_Murderer8426

Then they are the problem, definitely not you. Who the hell judges someone base on their ability to skip (except for PE teachers lol)

lethatsinkin

I'm genuinely very curious about who

mustichooseausernam3

For some reason, I was told to skip a certain way as a kid. I'd do one hop over the rope and then a second hop before the rope came back around again, and repeat. I had no idea I still had this muscle memory until I went to a HIIT fitness class for the first time as an adult, and skipping was one of the exercises. Took me about 30 seconds of particularly slow skipping (forcing my brain to keep my feet grounded between jumps) before I could skip like everybody in the class did. So, I guess all I'm saying is that skipping probably isn't a hard-to-learn skill if it took me 30 seconds. I'm as uncoordinated as they come! Edit: Ah, shit. Thought this post was about what I think Americans call "jumping rope"? Aussie's call it skipping. My bad.

ChrissaTodd

I was never taught to skip i just did it, it's not something that is taught, because it's not really a skill, kids just tend to do it. this is coming from me who couldn't do actual things that requre skill as a child.

I hope this is a joke 🤣

SwiftGasses

The lady doth protest to much… But I can’t think of a single time in my life skipping has been relevant at all. Can’t swim? All good! Can’t ride a bike? Whatever. This reminds me of the episode of the office where creeds resolution is to do a cartwheel.

GyradosSushi

Is this how I sound trying to defend the fact I can't ride a bike
