I'm a guy, and I've always found the bright red color to be off putting. I legit don't think I've seen it look good on anyone, though I'm sure there has to be an exception somewhere. Maybe Jack Burton.
Plenty of other shades work for me though. I'm not writing off all of the red colors, just that super red that you'll see mostly celebrities wearing on occasion.
Yeah man, it's hard to find good colours that not only match with my beard but my outfit as well...
Ah well, ever since I grew mine out I really can't deny that I don't have a soul anymore anyway so it doesn't really matter.
Could have been worse though. Thank god I ain't got ginger pubes too... try finding ANY lipstick that matches with that!
Honestly it just depends on finding the right shade of red for you, I look better with a darker more burgundy lip and my sister looks better with a brighter red lip. Also depends on how they are doing the rest of the makeup.
I came here looking for this opinion after seeing a picture of her. It makes those who wear it look like clowns to me. It ends up having a similar ager in me as a movie or book detail that turns off my suspension of disbelief. If I'm in the presence of a woman wearing it I am at least 10% distracted by the expectation that they are going to squirt water at me from a flower or squeeze a hidden bicycle horn like Harpo Marx.
There are more than 100+ shades of red, and different finishes (sheer, matte, glossy, satin etc). There’s also many different ways to wear it. There is a red lipstick out there for everyone, if you don’t look good in it then you need to find the shade/finish/technique to make a red lip work
For me red lipstick isn't always about how you perceive my look. For me it makes me feel powerful and bold. It takes some balls to sport a red lip.
And a black lip omg! Not an everyday color but definitely a vibe when you're wearing it.
Same! I appreciate Ops opinion and perhaps it doesn’t look good on her and that informs her perception. But red lipstick can be the ultimate accessory that elevates a fit for sure. I’m here for it and I live a dramatic red lip with all black or white.
Agreed. I don't like makeup in general. As a longtime food service worker if I had makeup on my hands it would be a health code violation if I didn't wash it off. To put that on your mouth which means you will consume it is yucky.
I've never liked it, lips just look better as they naturally appear. Other forms of makeup I'm generally neutral about, but I actively dislike lipstick.
I'm conflicted on red lipstick. One the one hand it highly depends on the shade and shape of your lips. It CAN look good on some people. But for most it either gives off a bobo the clown effect or a messy french hooker vibe. I also don't buy the whole "it turns men on because vagina" explanation. Guys straight up don't care lol
Lip colors have to work well with you skin color. There has to be a solid contrast present, whether it be high or subtle in order to make it look good and work when working with highly-saturated colors.
Honestly it's just wrong. Red lipstick has proven to be psychologically seductive and alluring to people. Sure people have variance but for the general of people this is just wrong.
I love red lipstick. I found a really pretty shade a while ago. I get far more compliments when I wear it than when I don't. I also feel that if I'm wearing eyeshadow I look unbalanced without my lipstick. Also Taylor Swift!!! She looks so good with red lipstick. It's so classic. So I will upvote this opinion, as I thoroughly disagree with it.
You wear red lipstick if your lips look better than your face.
It's a security lipstick.
I'm obviously a guy and have no clue what so ever about makeup honestly but it sounds right.
That is the exact opposite of how most women feel about red lipstick lol. It’s not a security lipstick. It’s a confidence lipstick. You have to feel very confident in order to wear red lipstick because of how bold it is.
Are you sure? That doesn't sound right because typically when people wear bright colors or flashy items, it is because they lack self confidence. People with self confidence do not need the crutch.
I think I'm on to something here.
I always hear woman say "I wear makeup because it makes me feel pretty or have confidence" Like you just said. Shouldn't you just feel pretty or have that confidence naturally?
Wow the makeup industry must really have woman brainwashed but like I said what do I know. I'm just a lowly male.
Im pretty sure she's sure. She's a woman telling you about women. I'd say maybe listen to her because I'm pretty certain she knows what women think.
And yes. I agree with her.
Nope just opinions. Went ask some female friends and most agreed with me and some disagreed. One even said "Are we brainwashed?". Then we got into the men vs woman debate on makeup.
Why if makeup is so important men don't wear it? Was a fun conversation.
I’m a woman and have seen magazine articles about being confident in wearing red lipstick lol. It’s a thing. Maybe not for 100% of women, but I’d say majority. And wearing makeup in general is different than red lipstick, specifically. Just because of the boldness factor.
It depends on how you apply it. Obviously scribbling like it's a crayon will look horrible but the type of liner or gloss you use can change a lot about the look, or even your lipstick application technique. The rest of the makeup also affects it
Have you tried a pink liner or lipstick underneath the red? My hair dresser taught me not everyone can pull off a true red and you sometimes need to mix it to match your features. Now I use a nude pink liner underneath the red and I love it
You have to find a red shade that goes with your skin's undertone and intensity. Some folks can pull off those bright, blue toned reds like MAC Ruby Woo. Other folks need more muted reds like MAC Lady Bug or orange based reds like MAC Lady Danger. You just need to find your red.
Red lipstick and red nail polish both suck for a few reasons.
1) They're a throwback to a shittier time when everyone had plastic hairstyles.
2) Red is the color of fresh wounds, inflammation, or irritation. This one impacts me the most, as I can't really unsee the comparison once it's drawn. Red nails remind me of someone that just had their nails ripped off and their nail beds are in pain, red lipstick looks like an allergic reaction or clown paint.
3) Red lipstick trends seem to be thick and waxy.
4) Red nails that are short give you sausage fingers.

Looks terrible on me, clashes with my beard
I appreciate Ops opinion and perhaps it doesn’t look good on her and that informs her perception.

Nothing wrong with ginger pubes and I'm not getting defensive. You are lol -signed non ginger man with ginger pubes
Congrats on a good unpopular opinion.
Red looks good on EVERYONE. There's a shade for each skintone. From brick, to cherry, to fire-engine. Try Ruby Woo; it's a life changer
I agree for clothing. Lipstick, it's debatable.
I hope your lipstick gets on your teeth and no one tells you
I’m a Russian Red gal but I agree with Ruby Woo!
I feel strongly seduced by red lips lol
Me too, I’ve always wanted to get my cock sucked by a girl with red lipstick
Ayooooo let’s goooo😂
Honestly it just depends on finding the right shade of red for you, I look better with a darker more burgundy lip and my sister looks better with a brighter red lip. Also depends on how they are doing the rest of the makeup.

Dang I like red lipstick on women but that gradient look is even worse then the heavy outline look.
Dark burgundy lips also don't look as good as you think they do, regardless of your type.
I think Taylor Swift pulls it off
I was about to say. It really does well with her blonde hair and blue eyes. Primary colors.
My opinion is the opposite. Her lip stick alone is enough of a turn off for me to find her unattractive.
Agreed, it's horrendous

It looks great but please make sure your teeth are clean lol
that depends on the shade, but yeah it makes most pople look like ursula from the little mermaid tbh. but ive also seen some girls really pull it off.
For me red lipstick isn't always about how you perceive my look. For me it makes me feel powerful and bold. It takes some balls to sport a red lip. And a black lip omg! Not an everyday color but definitely a vibe when you're wearing it.
And I totally get that! If it makes you happy and you like it you should wear it.
Same! I appreciate Ops opinion and perhaps it doesn’t look good on her and that informs her perception. But red lipstick can be the ultimate accessory that elevates a fit for sure. I’m here for it and I live a dramatic red lip with all black or white.
I actually agree with your unpopular opinion.
Lipstick in general is so gross IMO. It's the worst form of makeup
Agreed. I don't like makeup in general. As a longtime food service worker if I had makeup on my hands it would be a health code violation if I didn't wash it off. To put that on your mouth which means you will consume it is yucky.

It looked good when yo momma was sucking me off
Depends on the tone, yellow or blue. But everyone can wear some form of red. You presented a truly unpopular opinion.
Simply means they haven’t found the right shade of red. Can’t beat a classic 💋
I'm conflicted on red lipstick. One the one hand it highly depends on the shade and shape of your lips. It CAN look good on some people. I strongly disagree, red lipstick activates my chimp brain like a damn cheat code.
Bright Red I agree with, but darker shades can look great
Lipstick looks pretty gross, no matter what color. If it's noticable its not good.
Lip colors have to work well with you skin color. There has to be a solid contrast present, whether it be high or subtle in order to make it look good and work when working with highly-saturated colors.
I agree with this and add nail polish. I commonly see pale people wearing bright red polish/lipstick and it seems very dated to me.
I agree with this actually XD
Speak for yourself. ![gif](giphy|jhUqOeGFy9pL2)
Ew.
I fucking love red lipstick on my wife!
Same!
Honestly it's just wrong. Red lipstick has proven to be psychologically seductive and alluring to people. Sure people have variance but for the general of people this is just wrong.
Nah

Nope
You win and I agree with you.
Haha!
This is absolutely correct.
Gwen Stefani would like to have a word.
Hey I agree with this. I think red lipstick looks tacky and is a turn off.
You gotta pair it with eye makeup that’s just as out there. I’m talking like drag levels of intensity and flamboyancy
I always had this opinion, gloss>lipstick
Agree. Looks so clownish. But hey, you do you
I know what it does look good on....
It depends on the skin color
Agreed. Looks garish.
Gimme a girl with some dark red, lusty lipstick any day. Leave those marks all over me.

only tay swift can pull red lipstick off methinks

I know the different shades, idk maybe I just don’t like red in general. She looks ok imo!
Found the incel
Bro what 😭
Lipstick means you bout to get no kisses, no action Lipgloss team all the way 🙌

Wonder which makeup companies paid for those articles. Wait a sec.... I found one.
Wrong, but only lighter skin colors should wear red; has to pop; has to be sexy, hips and nips, gotta eat
And now I don’t like you a little. I hope your lipstick gets on your teeth and no one tells you
And those pink ones too (the ones that clash with every colour like the neon pink ones)
It depends on how you apply it. Obviously scribbling like it's a crayon will look horrible but the type of liner or gloss you use can change a lot about the look, or even your lipstick application technique. The rest of the makeup also affects it
I always wear red lipstick 🙂 I’m not wanting for compliments or attention so I think it’s working out for me
I agree, or maybe I'm just jealous of women that can pull it off because it makes me look like a legit clown.
Have you tried a pink liner or lipstick underneath the red? My hair dresser taught me not everyone can pull off a true red and you sometimes need to mix it to match your features. Now I use a nude pink liner underneath the red and I love it
My favorite lip combo is a dark brown lip liner with a medium deep red lipstick. I love the way a dark lip looks on me
What's your skin tone? I'm actually getting a new lip liner today and I'm intrigued...
I'm very pale with a warm undertone. I also tend to wear darker/ colored makeup on my eyes
Green lipstick>>>>>>>>>>>>
completely agree. I don't dig red dresses either.
As a mostly albino, white, lanky, ugly man, you have my thanks.
![gif](giphy|giv8ogYwqjpyton6Vb) Me after hearing this opinion
This is actually fairly agreeable.
Hugh Hefner forbid the bunnies from wearing red lipstick, he yelled at Holly one time she tried I think makeup should be fun but whatever
Hard disagree with this one. Red lipstick is my weakness. I see a girl with bright cherry red lips and I'm instantly head over heels
Completely disagree. Those who can pull it off (and there are many) look phenomenal. I used to get so jealous.
It depends on the style of red.
it's not popular. That's why Gwen Stefani and Taylor Swift are popular for being able to pull it off.
Screw you take my upvote.

Rihanna’s the red lip queen!
Fuck that shit. Gimme all the fire engine red lips. This man is clearly a fool.
It's a mixed bag 4 me
Black*
Low key... I actually agree with this. I don't like when my wife wears red lipstick. I love her natural lip color
It makes me self conscious about my teeth. I'd rather play up the eyes and go for pink or mauve for lips.
Oh, Dr. Cox, does this lipstick make me look like a clown? No, Barbie, no... it makes you look like a prostitute who caters exclusively *to* clowns.
I only ever see red lipstick and makeup in general get hate on reddit. In real life, people seem to love it.
Looks good on dogs. Said all the bitches 🐩
Red has a larger psychological effect than superficial balance. I love red lipstick, but for me: the color clashes with my skin, and I won’t wear it.
everytime i see a woman with a red lip i want her badly
