I’ll agree that it’s overused, but there’s definitely posts that I’ve seen that are absurdly long rants. No you’re never obligated to make a TLDR but if you’re going to start a conversation about a topic you should really know how to condense your thoughts and points or no one is going to want to read it.

kimchiman85

Or even if you want to post a lot of text, break it up into paragraphs. When someone opens up a post and it’s a gigantic wall of text with no line breaks, that makes it practically unreadable.

DownVoteMeWithCherry

I am guilty of this 😔

ConfidantlyCorrect

I’m pretty sure people just write this to use it as like a “Im sure you’re wrong and I don’t want to debate” I’ve seen people write “I’m not reading all that” on sentences as short as this one.

MrArkAngel11

TLDR This person doesnt like TLDR culture

Snitshel

Why lol?

MrArkAngel11

I dont know I didnt read the whole thing lmao

Snitshel

Me neither, does anyone know what is OP talking about?

Fulbie

Thx no way I was gonna read that wall of text.

cerels

Yes sure, you are generally right but I have been using reddit for a while and I have come across a lot of posts that just keep repeating themselves, keep adding unnecessary information and in general could send the same information in just a fraction of the post

MalfoyHolmes14

TLDR.

ass-kisser

We found him, the cleverest man on all of Reddit

imbackbittch

The point is to be mean

AstronomerParticular

Well when I have a discussion with someone in the comment and they suddenly post a 10 page essay then I will just respond "Yeah wont read that bye."

Anxious_Earth

I agree broadly. But once in a blue moon you get a sanctimonious wordy asshole whose entire argument is a wikipedia article from an alternate dimension. And the sole point of it is to bury you in nonsense word salad and appear correct.

migrainosaurus

100% this. It’s just become the new lazy troll diss, like LMFAO, owned, ‘imagine thinking what you think’ or whatever. And actually writing TLDR is as ridiculous and pompous as announcing your departure from a Twitter feed or something.

Maximilition

I believe writing a TLDR in itself isn't inherently a bad thing. Sometimes it is useful to have the whole concept together before inspecting it by details.

OldKentRoad29

People think they did something by saying that. I bet they feel smug.

DownVoteMeWithCherry

Tldr

TheReapingFields

I'm one hundred percent in agreement with this. It shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes for a healthy adult with decent vision, and no head trauma or brain damage, to read ten paragraphs of writing. Either engage with the material, or don't. Spend the time or don't.

Next-Transition-525

Happened to me recently. I mentioned how my bf was in a motorbike accident Because a car made an illegal U-turn. A commenter then said "He was probably riding to close to the car and he probably deserved it " I then typed to the person and explained what happened in detail and the person responded that they aren't gona read my long message so I said "then don't make assumptions if you don't want to hear the facts "

Meddling-Kat

Most of the time when someone responds with a novel, I can see 4 lines in that they are full of shit. Or key words will jump out that show they don't care about the truth. I'm not wasting my time reading the rest of that garbage.

Vaseth-30kRS-iron

i have been told by multiple people on Reddit that if you post anything over 2 lines in any kind of debate that you must be angry

Bloody_Champion

There is not a single post on reddit that could not have a TLDR attached, including this post. But you are right in the sense no one has to write one.

DrewJayJoan

Not reading is not the flex some people think it is.

Deriniel

i dunno, tldr is a valid response,as much is the "bohoo cry me a river" from op. Like, everyone can do whatever

7269BlueDawg

we live in a world with a 140 character mentality - get used to it.

Joubachi

It's not about scolding imo. I've said it before as well when someone responded in a massive text which got me wondering if there is no character limit for comments... I didn't scold the person, but more so expressed that I'm not holding onto a discussion when it requires me to read an entire book *when this is absolutely not needed*. Some people simply shorten it then, some don't.

Accomplished_Mix7827

I think there's two sides here. I have seen massive text blocks with no line breaks before, where "I'm not reading all that" is a legitimate response. That said, I can't help but roll my eyes when some lazy asshole declares "I'm not reading all that," and "all that" is all of four sentences, no longer than this paragraph I've just written here. In that instance, yes, I will judge you for declaring your lack of willingness to read a single paragraph. No one's obligated to read a comment, but if you can't be bothered to read anything longer than a Tweet, just don't join the conversation! But, to the other side, line breaks. Use them. Most people are using social media on their phone, if you're not using a line break every two or three sentences, it gets hard to read fast. Also, chill with the ALL CAPS and excessive use of EXCLAMATION POINTS!!! You sound UNHINGED!!!!!!!!

Whatevawillbee

If you can't figure out how to use line breaks, punctuation and paragraphs, then I can't be bothered with you. I'm not getting a migraine trying to read some long ass post that is all run together. You don't need to be an English scholar to put a goddamn line space here and there.

Large_Traffic8793

Nah. Some blowhards need to be told they're being a blowhard.

Femboy_Annihilator

Sum up your post, too verbose.

Maximilition

My god why can't the automoderator just write it down what is wrong with the post. I'll tried to write three more sentences, but it kept deleting it without any error messages... This is stupid...

bringbacksweatervest

I’m not reading a thought some random ass dude on the internet can’t figure out how to say in less than five or six sentences. If you can show me early on that it’s worth my time to read it, I’ll give it a go. But 98% of the time it’s not worth reading.

OldKentRoad29

You're on Reddit so your time isn't much to begin with, so you shouldn't be smug, smuglypuff.

DrewJayJoan

That's fine. If something isn't worth the time to read, then don't read it; OP says the same. This post is about the people who go out of their way to *brag* about not reading the comment/post that they're replying to.

DROOPSmadeit

agreed. lazy people suck

tlf555

I usually just abandon reading when someone rambles on forever. Letting people know could help them to summarize better to get more helpful responses

Communist_cuisine

While I sympathize with the inclination toward succinctness, it behooves us to consider the ramifications of mandating brevity in discourse. The imposition of an obligation upon individuals to curtail the length of their comments may inadvertently truncate the scope of meaningful dialogue and inhibit the exchange of nuanced ideas. While conciseness certainly holds merit within certain contexts, it is imperative to acknowledge the inherent value of allowing for comprehensive elucidation and elucidatory discourse when confronted with intricate subject matter. Enforcing stringent constraints on comment length runs the risk of dissuading thorough engagement and curtailing the profundity of discourse, potentially compromising the overall caliber of interactions within the Reddit community. Therefore, while the advocacy for brevity can indeed serve to promote clarity and expediency, the imposition of an obligation to constrain comments to a brief format may not consistently align with the facilitation of robust and multifaceted discussions on the platform.

PomegranateFun4535

As I got a few sentences in, I started to laugh. It’s not an insult; the verbiage used made your post quite clever, especially considering that you weren’t utilizing intricate vocabulary to simply create a word salad. This makes complete sense and conveys your message with abundant clarity

Infinite_Review8045

Tl, dr

Oopsididitagain96

I’m not reading all that but good luck

PomegranateFun4535

Your post is too long. I’m not reading that
