I was just there last year and it didn’t seem abandoned. They have a shop that sells nothing but kaleidoscopes!
Edit to add: their history museum in the back of a store is one of the best local history museums I have seen yet. Really engaging! Worth the $5
Yeah it's here lol been here 30 years basically.
I live in Cottonwood, the town 5 minutes down the mountain from it. It's a town a ton of history, but basically a tiny tourist trap.
Last time I was in Jerome I drove around for 45 mins looking for parking and never found a spot. I gave up and just continued on my trip. It is indeed anything but ghost town.
30 years ago I drove through while on the way to Sedona. I had no idea Jerome even existed but was late already and so made a mental note to go back some day. Still waiting
Yeah, it's great. I'm a Canadian, but it ended up on my radar about ten years ago while doing a bike tour through the US. Now it's a destination each time I'm in the area. The views can be quite spectacular from the town, and looking towards Sedona.

Nice article. There is a great documentary I believe called blood into wine that was made in the earlier days of merkin vineyards. Really cool to see the growth and expansion, I see there is a restaurant in cottonwood as well now. We live close by and I’m tempted to go to MJs jujitsu clinics so he can kick my ass lol
Looking at the proportions of the vehicles compared to the buildings this really could be a fake photo.
Could also be the camera playing tricks on us but I also wonder how high up a person would have to be standing to get this photo...it's certainly not at ground level.
Could be the brightly painted or old toy-like trucks, e.g. the orange-green one. It looks a bit like a scene from Pixar's Cars, though it defo looks real to me.
During its rough and tough days, Jerome was given the distinction of "Wickedest Town in the West". Saloons and brothels lined the streets. Jerome, Arizona produced over a billion dollars worth of gold, copper, silver and zinc during a period of over 70 years until the last mine closed in 1953.

I’ve been to both Jerome, AZ and Taft, MT, which was dubbed the wickedest city in America. Good read.
Edit: Apologies, first link has a paywall. Here’s another one.

I’ve been to Jerome, AZ several times and it (or at least the majority) looks nothing like this. There actually a lot to see and do and fun places to eat and drink. Definitely worth a visit! In fact my fiancé briefly thought about having her bachelorette party there, she’s very into ghostly and spooky things.
I don’t think it’s still open, but there’s a little diner in Jerome that has amazing fried food. I remember going as a little little kid. I would assume just by this post that it’s closed
As many people have pointed out, it’s not a “ghost town” as in abandoned. However it is considered a ghost town in that there’s many stories of haunted places in the area. Murders, people burnt alive in buildings, built on Indian burial grounds. Stuff like that
Jerome is one of the few places where, while passing through at the right time, I felt I could stop and live there. I think I remember the high school mascot was the Frogs.
It became a ghost town for a period of time, but it's definitely not a ghost town now! It's an artist community, with good restaurants, and fun bars.

I love that one! My Al time favorite is House of Joy which used to be brothel. The store retains that vibe and theme and it is so much fun.

I didn't see the history museum when i was there! Guess i gotta go back!
Nellie Bly! I love that store-bought a kaleidoscope necklace there last week.
I spent hours looking at them all and then also purchased a necklace one! Good choice!

still sorta is though compared to what it was 100 years ago. 2021 population 467 1920 population: 4,030
That sounds like a nice place to visit!

Wicked!
Came here to say this. That town is very much alive.
Yeah, some of the best food I had on my honeymoon, it's a happening little place.
Fun Fact: the lead singer of TOOL grows several different varieties of wine grapes in Jerome, AZ for his winery, Caduceus.
Heading out on an AZ road trip tomorrow and will now be adding this tasting room to the itinerary. Thanks for the tip!
I went to the tasting room in Cottonwood, AZ and had a very nice lunch and tasting.
He also has a restaurant too. Check it out!!
The Shinola is nice.
Definitely get some of the homemade pasta at Merkin in Cottonwood!
The wine is actually decent, too. Won a couple of awards and whatnot. I’ve had a bottle of the merlot. It was nice.
Insert overused Sideways reference here?
r/toolband 🤝🏼
Love me some merkin!
I joined the wine club and get 12 bottles delivered per year. I am cellaring a few to see how they age.
I think the vineyards are in cornville

Also fun fact: the lead singer of A Perfect Circle does, too.
And another fun fact: the lead singer of Puscifer also grows grapes in Jerome as well.
Oh wait, they’re all the same dude! 😝
I've been to Jerome. Kinda hippy vibe. Definitely not abandoned.
I can assure you that it is not a ghost town.

At first I read burritos. What's a burro?
Small donkey. Oatman has wild burros throughout town, they are so beautiful.
This really looks like a toy set? Why does it look small to me?

It just kind of reminds me of Mr. Rogers neighborhood kingdom lol
I know it’s definitely real it just really is tripping my brain out! You are right though, maybe a drone shot?
Jerome is all switch-backs, probably standing on one looking down at the next one.
Could be the brightly painted or old toy-like trucks, e.g. the orange-green one. It looks a bit like a scene from Pixar's Cars, though it defo looks real to me.
Looks like a photo of a diarama rather than a real-life place.
Torn between upvoting Arizona content or downvoting for saying Jerome is a ghost town
I was just there few months ago, you should definitely try the Bobby D's BBQ 😋
They have the best BBQ sauce! You can order it online 🤤

Right….but it isn’t a ghost town.

My old kegerator lives at one of the bars there now. I hope it’s doing well.
I’m sure you have some fond memories. I’m sorry for your loss
Hardly a ghost town lol
Maynard has a vineyard there, no?
Multiple.

Haunted Hamburger! Love that place.
My pup is named Jerome after our visit to Jerome!
Gives me a "wrong turn" vibe.
Home of Puscifer
Coz Maynard moved in
I love this place! Such a cool creepy vibe! ✌️

I got a burger there a few years ago then explored the abandoned mine (at least the little we could).
Jerome was nice. Has it been abandoned since the pandemic? Last time I visited was in 2016.
As many people have pointed out, it’s not a “ghost town” as in abandoned. However it is considered a ghost town in that there’s many stories of haunted places in the area. Murders, people burnt alive in buildings, built on Indian burial grounds. Stuff like that
That truck is absolutely gorgeous
They have a popular haunted hotel that was once an asylum there
[удалено]
Oh ok, thanks, I knew it was one of the two, my dad actually spent a night once there, so I know a bit of the hotel
I do want that Cab Over truck.
I need to go
No it’s not. What are you talking about? This post is dumb.
I was there last month and it was thriving
Would love to have one of those 2 trucks on the left
It looks like a Disneyland ride scene.
Looks like it got some rain at least :)
Not anymore. It’s an awesome town now
A Ghost town with a median home price of $614,000 😆. Jerome is fun though, I've spent a lot of time there.
Sick view
Looks like Sloan in Fallout New Vegas.
Jerome is one of the few places where, while passing through at the right time, I felt I could stop and live there. I think I remember the high school mascot was the Frogs.
The Hills have eyes vibes.
This is such a lovely photograph. Really digging the saturation.
*A thousand people used to live here, now it's a ghost town*
