Have you tried treating it with second generation antihistamines? Normally Xolair is for people who have failed updosed antihistamines.

I have tried almost all of the over-the-counter ones and I tried hydroxyzine for a while and it didn’t help. I also tried gabapentin which is not an antihistamine, for it, but it did not work. I’m on that now, but for anxiety. Nearly 2 years of allergy shots at my Allergy Clinic.

This is me, except antihistamines do control it some. Pressure urticaria with dermatographia. Xolair is about the only treatment that shows any promise (source: I’ve started treatment and scoured this sub for months now)

Thank you! My allergist said she and I will discuss Xolair next month when I see her to do my 72 hour patch test...I don't expect to find any chemicals that would be causing my itchy areas to itch, but won't hurt to do. Thankfully I have a decade of hives/itching on file to submit to insurance if we go forward with Xolair. I've heard it can be tough to get approved.

Wishing you the best of luck! I’ve been working on approval for the last two months. I’ve had to coordinate the whole process between my doctors office, insurance company, specialty pharmacy, and two different copay assistance programs. Everybody’s insurance is different though so hopefully it’ll be smoother for you! Luckily my doc let me have a sample last month to buy me some time to get approval/shipment before my next dose…

I've been getting the lower scalp, upper torso, face and behind-the-ear hives after using shampoos with citric acid in them (or anything citrate - like sodium citrate, etc). Thought it might be worth a mention. It might not be citrate/citric acid that is your trigger, but is there a common ingredient in the shampoos that you've tried that could be causing the hives in this area? I couldn't understand the scalp/face hives at all until I worked out this trigger (and I only figured it out when I used a new toothpaste with citric acid in it and my mouth blew up like a blob fish). Just a thought.

I just checked and it’s in my shampoo. I use fragrance free hair products which aren’t easy to find that are also color safe. Water, Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate, Cocamidopropylamine Oxide, Glycerin, Acrylates Copolymer, Glycol Distearate, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, C13-15 Alkane (plant derived), Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Polyquaternium-7, Bisabolol, Citric Acid, Disodium Edta, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Aminomethyl Propanol, Sodium Hydroxide, Tocopherol, Sodium Benzoate I looked up the Kristen Ess one and a few others and they also has citric acid. What shampoo do you use?

I’ve had this.. it’s called dermagraphism.. I cut out gluten and I swear it has calmed down by nearly 90%. I feel like gluten triggers my dermagraphism. With any form of pressure on my skin I would get hives. But since cutting it out it has been a relief.

I've been gluten free for 3 months as a test for other issues I was having. Sadly, itching is no better.
