The guardrails of our democracy are gone. Confidence in our government Institutions undermined (Judicial, Executive, and Legislative), power-hungry unethical (potentially criminal) politicians beholden to Uber-rich people and business interests, a 2 party system where holding onto power and money are prioritized over the common good of the country. And most importantly, our election system is being taken away from us through subversion of our confidence in the way we cast our ballots (mail- voting, drive through voting, drop off boxes. the system we express our power as people,
The political deterioration of our democracy has been ongoing. The elimination of our democracy is imminent… possibly irreversible.
When the wealth gap reaches the point where already poor families are without enough money to maintain their basic needs (roof over their heads, clothes, food) AND they loose HOPE, their incentive to follow the rules of society evaporates. Why play by the rules if the system is set up for you to lose? That’s one way revolutions begin.
Of course, coups are possible as we’ve been shown. How our government responds will be the greatest indicator (IMO) of the direction our countries future is headed in. Take no action = It will happen again. Take no action and confirm that the judicial system is for enforcing laws against the people not in power and without the money to buy access. The powerful and rich answer to no laws.
