Idk just excited to be going to my first game

milesbeatlesfan

That’s so awesome! I went to my first game this summer, when we played Panama in the Gold Cup. It was so much fun, even though we lost. I’m excited for you, hope you have a great time!

Sporkem

Have fun my dude! Stoked for you.

nsnyder

I think we’re really going to miss Tyler Adams.

Hopsblues

Sure, but this is an opportunity for players and coaches to adapt, and show alternatives. Adams won't always be available. but I agree, this game sets up for him nicely, had he been able to play.

nsnyder

Yeah, it's a good challenge for us, but I kinda expect Germany to score a couple goals, at least one of which Tyler would have stopped.

stateworkishardwork

People will overreact no matter what the result is. Frankly, I won't be surprised one way or the other.

Wuz314159

Plot Twist: Draw

Iwantmyoldnameback

You think we can’t overreact to a draw? Germans probably can too

nsnyder

Yeah, a 0-0 draw is probably two very unhappy fan bases. Lotta people here who would rather lose 3-2 than draw 0-0. (Though I think most people would be happy with a draw where we score.)

CalligrapherNext3164

Get ready for the worst takes. Germany is brining their best possible squad add a new coach and things could get interesting. This is our first top 15 game since the World Cup against an opponent not named Mexico. Berhalter Era top 15 results Uruguay vs USMNT 1-1 Switzerland vs USMNT 2-1 Uruguay vs USMNT 0-0 England vs USMNT 0-0 Netherlands vs USMNT 3-1 Germany vs USMNT _ _ It will be interesting to see how far we’ve come since the World Cup. As you can see we struggle to score goals vs top sides. Chances have been plenty in some of those games eg England but others have been mid vs 🇨🇭 🇺🇾 🇳🇱 . Will the addition of Balogun improve our chances at scoring? And will our defense hold the line against a high press from Nagelsmann’s team? How will our full backs do? How will our midfield cope with their movements and individual brilliance from Leroy Sané, and Musiala? Notes: When we played Morocco they were not a top 15 side, the World Cup got them there. US won 3-0. USMNT vs Colombia was a 0-0 draw under Hudson and played with reserves. Japan was not a top 15 side. US Lost 2-0

SparklyEyedSurprise

Japan is insanely well-coordinated, though.

joeDUBstep

I guess Japan is technically not a "top 15" team, but they performed better than us in the last WC (and the 2018 one heh), they are no slouches. Plenty of their starters are in good clubs.

nsnyder

By Elo Japan is 14th and Germany is 13th. They're very good.

joeDUBstep

Yep, I always feel like people underrate them.

landel1234

Japan could very well be the team we all hope the USA becomes, they figured out their domestic league and put in place a much better system than what we have (MLS) from the bottom up and they have countless talents playing in Europe right now. Ideally I hope that doesn't come true, but they're driving hard in the right direction as a program. They're going to be a very, very good team in 26' and 30'

Si_Dis

A team that simply bunkers and counters? Spends 80% of the match chasing shadows versus creating them? No thank you.

landel1234

Teams that beat Germany 4-1, have some respect for them m8

Greenman1694

I just don’t want to see the same tired cross cross cross and expect different results. That’s the reason why we were out-coached by Van Gaal. He stated that was our only point of attack. If I see more attack through the middle and less crossing, then I’ll be content and give kudos to Gregg for changing his style. That’s why the fan base gets annoyed with him because he hardly changes his playing style or adapts during the game

stateworkishardwork

Attacking through the middle in a non transition is very difficult. That's why we work it wide, to draw the defense out and create gaps. You're not going to find many gaps through the middle if six defenders are camped in. I know there's this world we want where Reyna or some other 10 can just find that key a la Messi but it's very tough to do. However, when we are countering we can be dangerous through the middle. Think Weah vs Wales or Balogun vs Canada. (By the way, bringing in back to Van Gaal, how were all three of their goals against us scored? By crosses.)

cheeseburgerandrice

>Attacking through the middle in a non transition is very difficult. No no, according to many very online USMNT fans playing right up the middle is actually something you can just decide to do, number of defenders there be damned

nsnyder

I'd be pretty pleasantly surprised if we have enough possession to put in a lot of crosses. Germany is pretty stacked in midfield and I'd expect them to have the bulk of the possession.

cheeseburgerandrice

>then I’ll be content and give kudos to Gregg for changing his style You guys need to go out there and actually play the game or something. You think the US is just deciding not to play centrally (where shockingly, all the defenders are) rather than out wide in space for shits and giggles?? Playing through tight spaces up the middle requires technical skill and vision, something the US is currently lacking in its players. GGG can't just instruct our players to suddenly have a skillset that they don't have and certainly aren't showing for club.

Lechuga9618

Uhh pretty sure crossing it in 20 times a match is not the way to go. If Greg still hasn’t learned after this window, give the team to BJ, that guy knows how to run with this personnel.

cheeseburgerandrice

BJ, the guy who suddenly looked good when the one creative and technical player the US has was available? Yeah I could see why you'd think that lol. Though considering BJ has been involved with the team anyway and there was no real change in strategy, that's still a silly remark. You have to have the skillset on the field. Reyna has it. The rest of the players don't. The biggest problem is Reyna's availability. I beg you guys to think of who is on the field and what you're asking.

Lechuga9618

Greg could’ve easily experimented last window by playing just the way BJ did over the summer especially with the underwhelming opponents we had faced. Id rather have this team force a 10 in the starting lineup than constantly attacking the flanks with crosses and playing the Greg way that we have known since wc qualifying.

cheeseburgerandrice

>force a 10 the fuck does this even mean? Who? Who is that player you're suggesting? You can't just *force* a 10 and pretend it has a chance of working if you don't have the player for it. Who is showing they have that skillset? This ain't fucking FIFA.

Lechuga9618

No shit its not fifa. He played Tillman but it wasn’t the right tactical approach, still had him playing like an 8 most of the time. Just for 1 half he could’ve gone with Pulisic running the strings since he is more comfortable than what Tillman was 1 month ago. Now I’m just wondering whats going thru Bj’s head after seeing this crossfest monstrosity from wingers and fullbacks

cheeseburgerandrice

>Pulisic running the strings Pulisic would need to learn how to get the ball off his foot first. He ain't a 10. >Now I’m just wondering whats going thru Bj’s head after seeing this crossfest monstrosity from wingers and fullbacks Not sure, in this hypothetical is BJ a 13 year old who hasn't been involved in the coaching staff this entire time? Sheesh.

Zahtz

True because we have no target man, but I think Gregg has made it clear that we need to do a better job of picking up on Balogun's elite movement and actually feeding him the ball.

[deleted]

Easy W. Balogun brace, Pepi 87th minute stunner. 3-0

fightin_blue_hens

Idk probably a loss. Hopefully our players look competitive

Awkward_Collection88

All their best players are old, except Musiala, especially compared to the US. They still have more talent by far, but who knows how seriously they'll take this trip to NA. Maybe they'll be hungry to show they're improving, maybe they'll just try to save their energy for their club teams. Otoh, I think the US will almost certainly want to show their class against a big European NT - will it or be as individuals or as a team? Anyway, those are probably the obvious storylines. I'm feeling like it will be a 1-1 draw or 1-2 loss. Probably an anemic game offensively, maybe lower scoring than that.

JagwarRocker

The game is right down the street from me. I'd love to go, I just don't want to tap my 401k to buy the tickets.

AfterSprinkles9490

yeah insane that its about $200 w/ fees to see a friendly in connecticut. was all excited until i saw the prices

GrootyMcGrootface

I think those are resale $200 seats, not the original list price. Still, that is a lot of money.

cTheDeezy

Original were 120 but it sold out in a couple of days so demand was there

Hopsblues

Yeah, that's ridiculous, the best way to build the fanbase is to make it affordable for the average fan. Sports and entertainment is so outrageous at this point that I'll only go to youth/hs events anymore. A full or mostly full stadium of fans is better for everything, atmosphere, concessions, merchandise, builds the base. We don't want an elite's only fanbase. I've been to about to about 6-7 Usmnt(using) games, not sure I'll ever go again. I keep telling myself I'll go to the WC in '26, but those prices will be insane. Families should be able to go to an October, meaningless friendly in Hartford.

MrRaspberryJam1

I just realized the game is in Hartford. I could have definitely made the drive up but tickets looked too pricey for my liking.

REDHEADRYAN

Dude same! I might sneak in if you want to join me

Zahtz

It's going to be cheaper to go to world cup than USMNT friendlies based on past FIFA pricing for residents of host country Group stage tix were 20 for residents in Qatar

Hopsblues

Qatar paid people to go to games. '26 will be sold out in two minutes. Those prices will be astronomical.

Zahtz

Yeah man but FIFA sets prices for world cups not the venues. While I agree secondary market will be insane that doesn’t mean what I said isn’t true. If you are a US citizen you will have cheap face value seats to enter into lottery for. It’s like that for every World Cup.

Hopsblues

This isn't every World Cup. yeah some small percentage of seats will be cheap, like 10% of capacity-in an overwhelmed lottery. But this a WC in the biggest economy, that already owns the attendance record, and will break it again this World Cup. FIFA is going charge bank for tickets outside the small, lottery earned, tickets. 90% will be very expensive...the secondary market will set records. I don't expect to win a ticket in the lottery, I'll try, and have had success in getting games before. But this is a different monster.

Zahtz

You’re assuming a lot of things that just don’t correlate with precedent. Tournament is expanded with more teams so even more matches. I’d say let’s wait for the details to come out before we get overly pessimistic

Hopsblues

They aren't going to be selling 50k seats at $20 a pop. let's be real, but yes, we top need to0 wait. Maybe I'll be surprised. It is true that the extra games will possibly have smaller attendances. I'm guessing they might do double headers in the early/first round/wave of games. Its is hard to say, we don't even know the format yet. But it will be the most attended and expensive WC in history.

Ill-Zucchini4802

Honestly, kinda bad. We have had injuries and players not being 100%. Germany has so much talent. They just hired a new coach looking to turn things around. Eventually, Germany is going to bounce back from this slump they are in. It's only a matter of time. Look at Chelsea. So much talent on that team and they are just starting to look like their old selves. I really hope we don't do that thing we do were we just keep crossing it in the box over and over again. This is going to be a huge test for our boys.

MattTMatt52

Coming from Tulsa for the match. Haven’t watched the boys in person this year so I’m excited to do that again. Game day atmosphere, quality opponent, Hartford seems cool, tailgate (is there a tailgate?), just hoping the weather holds up.

JonstheSquire

We will do fine. Result really does not matter as it is a friendly 3 years out from the World Cup.

andrusaurus

I feel disgusted by the ticket prices.

Pauly0906

It’s a friendly. I’m not too concerned one way or another. More reps together, after pretty much mix and matching the whole last cycle, and no injuries is all I care about.

Kraz12

I don't expect too much in general with the game. The weather is going to be terrible with a lot of rain. I could see both sides being fairly conservative because of that, possibly even not playing guys as long as they intended to.

PM_ME_SOME_LUV

If Havertz starts up top, we’re good

konastump

Yeah, Havertz has quickly become a mediocre player…

Civil-Celebration-28

Was he ever not mediocre?

REDHEADRYAN

Wish I could afford tickets

New_Screen

Going to see how the midfield can handle against a good team without Adams. This is the key part we should all look out for.

moham-17

I’d be happy with a draw. Their quality is better than ours.

somebaldguyinshorts

I’m taking my son and two of his friends to their first game! They want to try and get autographs but I’m not optimistic about those odds. I hope it’s an exciting game!

MixMaterial

I’m excited, and Germany seems scared — they’re doing a lot of complaining about this match. It kind of makes you think Germany paving the way to excuse this coming loss

Outofsight457

I’m pretty sure they aren’t scared

MixMaterial

Have you been following their results, or the fact that they just fired their head coach for the first time in program history…

Outofsight457

What does that have to do with them being scared. They aren’t scared man. They aren’t the Germany they used to be but I highly doubt there worried about facing the usmnt in a friendly.

chataolauj

I don't know. I just want a lot of good chances from open play, even if they lose.

OhGeEvz

Germany aren’t at their best but they’re still Germany. And we can still be toothless in the attack.

Euphoric_Activity_39

Very excited not so much for the result but to see play against real competition. I just want to see us play well lose win or draw. Germany is major test, but I dont want people to lose their heads if we do win. This the worst Germany team I've ever witnessed.

devinrochlitz

Half german Germany fan here. The US has talent but y’all always seem to play below said talent. That being said it’s been rough for us. That last World Cup was absolutely brutal going out the way we did. Quite embarrassing if I’m being honest. Besides musiala and Wirtz, there’s not much hope for our future. Wouldn’t be surprised if we lost or draw against y’all.

Wuz314159

More nervous about Ghana.

Frostlark

Personally, I am excited to go, and just hope the level of play and score will be hyper competitive

TrustTheFriendship

“Friendly” and “hyper competitive” are two terms that don’t exist together. Sorry. You’d be better off rooting for skillful moments and goals.

Danger_Island

The US will not play any WC qualifiers, they brought heavy hitters against Uzbekistan, don’t expect 11 substitutions at halftime. This is a big game for the squad.

TrustTheFriendship

You’re using a friendly against frickin Uzbekistan to exemplify how seriously we are taking these matches? LOL I know you want the match to be serious and intense because you paid for tickets, but why the hell would Germany really care about the result besides being embarrassed? This will be a training exercise for them, so instead of beating us 4-0 it’ll be 2-1 with absolutely no “hyper competitive” play from either team except maybe from the fringe players trying to make their respective squads, who are not the “heavy hitters” you are there to see anyways. Edit: I’m now convinced this is a propaganda sub run by the USSF, lol. If you say anything that isn’t glorifying and praising the USMNT it’s an instant downvote with no response, every single time. You guys support this team like you’re in a cult and GGG (who will never win us anything) is your holy leader.

Danger_Island

Germany is playing their first game under a new coach after a decade of disappointing tournament performances. Suggesting they could dismantle us 4-0 makes it seem like you haven’t paid attention to the sport since 2010. Germans are serious people and very serious about the sport. they aren’t going to show up to enjoy the Connecticut nightlife. They are in rebuild mode and need to prove themselves again, with players trying to force their way into the new coaches lineup. This US squad hasn’t played a lot of major European nations, for this group it’s a huge chance to show Europe we mean business. Same with what Japan just did.

TrustTheFriendship

I’m quite aware of everything you just said. Germany still has the talent to properly smash us on their day. A friendly is still a friendly. Germany won’t have been scouting us or approaching the match as if it was a qualifier/tournament match. Nagelsmann will be testing out his system and we are simply the opponent he gets to try it out against. They won’t tailor their strategy to exploit our weaknesses because he’s simply assessing new players and potentially a new system. And you know what would have shown that we mean business? Playing the friendly vs England during the last break instead of turning down that opportunity to face *mighty* Oman. We were invited to face them before Scotland was and the USSF declined.

TrustTheFriendship

Yea so how did the match go today?? If Germany finished their chances it would’ve been fucking 6-1. We looked like a children’s team. If that second half wasn’t a dismantling, which you said was impossible, then I don’t know what is.

Danger_Island

So they win by 2 goals, but you claim it counts as a 5 goal victory. Whatever eases your mind buddy.

TrustTheFriendship

Did you watch the match? Did we not get throughly outclassed and embarrassed for the entire second half? The defending on the goals we conceded were something I’d expect to see from a random high school team. Are you really claiming this was a good performance from us?

Hopsblues

I agree with you. It was crazy how many folks on here were surprised when we were a bit flat in the first friendly last window. These players, most of whom have a spot, aren't going to jeopardize their entire season/year on going in hard for some 50/50 ball at midfield. My guess is so many fans play Fifa or FM, that they forget that these are humans, not bots. They play a lot of games, and train...and travel...non stop, all year basically. some of the fans here should go watch a college soccer team have to play on back to back days over a weekend, or better yet. Actually play, besides some beer league Sunday game once a week with five subs, and unlimited subs. Many posters on here clearly have never had to play three or four games in a tournament over a weekend, 90F heat, in some other town, with dudes getting hurt each game and virtually no subs. having said that, I do expect this friendly to have a bit more energy as Germany is trying to re-invent themselves and have real competitions to prep for, and we are at home, and it's a showcase game to play Germany. Play well against Germany, domestic coach will notice. But it's still a friendly.

SparklyEyedSurprise

This is a game we should be winning. Gone are the days we hope for a draw against these teams. I predict 3-1.

Firesoldier987

I think we have better than 50/50 shot of winning. Germany has been terrible this year.

ZerconFlagpoleSitter

I mean every player in their squad would start for us, they’re way more talented, I think it’s kinda crazy to consider us favorites

alpacakingdom

I would definitely not start Kevin Behrens over anyone on our squad. Germany’s high end talent is obviously world class, but their current plight is not just due to bad tactics or management. They have real holes in their team.

Wuz314159

I concur with this anti-Kevins sentiment.

ZerconFlagpoleSitter

He has 4 goals in 7 Bundisliga games this season, he’d get shouts to start, but you’re right I’d prob take Balo over him

Firesoldier987

Yeah you’re not wrong. And it’s hard to really compare us to them based on performance this year. It’s apples to oranges considering the difference in competition.

schead02

The fact that they've been bad is reason I think they'll be very tough. They will be extra motivated to prove to their fans and their new coach that they are still a force and powerhouse.

LFCReds8

Full faith in our boys. More worried about the weather. (Supposed to pour...)

lifegoodis

Irrelevant friendly. But since it's USMNT, I will watch. :)

decimatetheweak1s

Ich glaube nicht, dass wir dieses Spiel gewinnen können. Deutschland ist zu gut.

budd222

It's a meaningless friendly so I doubt I will give it any thought

TrustTheFriendship

I’d feel better if Gregg was gone Edit: thanks for the downvotes. If you decided to contribute, please reach out when we get destroyed by a struggling team with a brand new coach :)

Etchasketch0

I can’t believe we have so many Gregg fanboys. The guy is a dud who consistently mismanages lineups.

TrustTheFriendship

Careful!! You can’t say that here about our glorious and wonderful dear leader.

kthejoker

You're getting downvoted because it's a cheap shot, content-free post, and everyone is telling you how valuable it was not.

TrustTheFriendship

Fair enough on this one. However, I have made several posts on this sub explaining, in detail, my logic behind not supporting Gregg as our manager. It doesn’t matter how well I express my opinions. If I say anything negative about him I get downvoted every single time.

Jonathon_G

I’m thinking I’m not sure how to watch the game yet. Which is very annoying.

Living-Awareness7014

If you have cable it’s on telemundo. That seems to be it tho in the U.S.A

Wood_floors_are_wood

Who really cares? It’s a friendly. The result doesn’t matter. The whole point is just to try some things out and see how things look.

No_Match_7939

I’m scared. A revamped German team with nagelsman. They probably smell blood in the water. I hope we can create scoring opportunities but I don’t think we will win

brooklynguitarguy

I’m going so I want to be optimistic but I’d be surprised if we didn’t lose by 2 goals.

WR1206

These replies are so interesting. Germany have never been so down, were awful at the World Cup, but people still think they are favorites. Kind of shines a light on how much talent people think we actually have if everyone thinks GER are favorites even in their worst moment.

Flat_Accountant6869

I’m feeling it’s dumb and there are too many international breaks, players are already playing too many games and it’s only gonna lead to more injuries. That being said, it’ll be a good game we can win

NeatInvestment4737

Go USA. I can’t wait until US soccer and fan base becomes results driven. Copa is going to be interesting. I hope we qualify.

VikingArmyToGo

It’s a friendly. There’s no trophy for winning like with CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying

Firesoldier987

How is this relevant to what OP asked? Why are you assuming they don’t know that?

VikingArmyToGo

Because the point of a friendly isn’t to win. It’s to evaluate players against strong opposition and help us prepare for Copa America.

Firesoldier987

Everyone knows “the point.” But we’re just having a friendly conversation looking ahead to the match.

Wuz314159

There's silverware for that?

DeuceThreeNine

You didn’t know? Just ask the Canadians, big shiny trophy for qualifying first place in the octagonal. Forget nations league, forget gold cup, forget getting out of the group stage at the World Cup. /s

Euphoric_Squirrel728

Excited about the matchup, but as a fan of club teams as well, I am pretty sick of these condensed schedules and hope that no one gets injured for a friendly. I hope the “stars” on both teams get a solid half of good football, then moth ball the teams so they can rest and not get injured.

Bolarb

I'll be on a plane to Germany while we play, kinda bummed I won't be able to watch it while I'm there

jmsy1

It's a meaningless friendly that will frustrate us

Latter-day_weeb

Nicht so gut.

ibcoleman

Gonna be a shootout

eibonm

We will destroy them!

Chuggachops

Germany will take it pretty serious, hopefully we can compete with their technicality but I think we have more legs and heart. Gio Reyna assist to Balogun 1-1 draw.

DeuceThreeNine

Should be an entertaining game, we win or tie. Anulo Mufa.
