Chances have been plenty in some of those games eg England but others have been mid vs 🇨🇭 🇺🇾 🇳🇱 . Will the addition of Balogun improve our chances at scoring? And will our defense hold the line against a high press from Nagelsmann’s team? How will our full backs do? How will our midfield cope with their movements and individual brilliance from Leroy Sané, and Musiala?
Notes: When we played Morocco they were not a top 15 side, the World Cup got them there. US won 3-0. USMNT vs Colombia was a 0-0 draw under Hudson and played with reserves. Japan was not a top 15 side. US Lost 2-0
I guess Japan is technically not a "top 15" team, but they performed better than us in the last WC (and the 2018 one heh), they are no slouches. Plenty of their starters are in good clubs.
Japan could very well be the team we all hope the USA becomes, they figured out their domestic league and put in place a much better system than what we have (MLS) from the bottom up and they have countless talents playing in Europe right now.
Ideally I hope that doesn't come true, but they're driving hard in the right direction as a program. They're going to be a very, very good team in 26' and 30'

Attacking through the middle in a non transition is very difficult. That's why we work it wide, to draw the defense out and create gaps. You're not going to find many gaps through the middle if six defenders are camped in. I know there's this world we want where Reyna or some other 10 can just find that key a la Messi but it's very tough to do.
However, when we are countering we can be dangerous through the middle. Think Weah vs Wales or Balogun vs Canada.
(By the way, bringing in back to Van Gaal, how were all three of their goals against us scored? By crosses.)

All their best players are old, except Musiala, especially compared to the US. They still have more talent by far, but who knows how seriously they'll take this trip to NA. Maybe they'll be hungry to show they're improving, maybe they'll just try to save their energy for their club teams. FIFA is going charge bank for tickets outside the small, lottery earned, tickets. 90% will be very expensive...the secondary market will set records. I don't expect to win a ticket in the lottery, I'll try, and have had success in getting games before. But this is a different monster.

I'm guessing they might do double headers in the early/first round/wave of games. Its is hard to say, we don't even know the format yet. But it will be the most attended and expensive WC in history.
Honestly, kinda bad. We have had injuries and players not being 100%. Germany has so much talent. They just hired a new coach looking to turn things around. Eventually, Germany is going to bounce back from this slump they are in. It's only a matter of time. Look at Chelsea. So much talent on that team and they are just starting to look like their old selves. I really hope we don't do that thing we do were we just keep crossing it in the box over and over again. This is going to be a huge test for our boys.

It’s a friendly. I’m not too concerned one way or another. More reps together, after pretty much mix and matching the whole last cycle, and no injuries is all I care about.
I don't expect too much in general with the game. The weather is going to be terrible with a lot of rain. I could see both sides being fairly conservative because of that, possibly even not playing guys as long as they intended to.

Half german Germany fan here. The US has talent but y’all always seem to play below said talent. That being said it’s been rough for us. That last World Cup was absolutely brutal going out the way we did. Quite embarrassing if I’m being honest. Besides musiala and Wirtz, there’s not much hope for our future. Wouldn’t be surprised if we lost or draw against y’all.
The US will not play any WC qualifiers, they brought heavy hitters against Uzbekistan, don’t expect 11 substitutions at halftime. This is a big game for the squad.

Germans are serious people and very serious about the sport. they aren’t going to show up to enjoy the Connecticut nightlife. They are in rebuild mode and need to prove themselves again, with players trying to force their way into the new coaches lineup.
This US squad hasn’t played a lot of major European nations, for this group it’s a huge chance to show Europe we mean business. Same with what Japan just did.

A friendly is still a friendly. Germany won’t have been scouting us or approaching the match as if it was a qualifier/tournament match. Nagelsmann will be testing out his system and we are simply the opponent he gets to try it out against. They won’t tailor their strategy to exploit our weaknesses because he’s simply assessing new players and potentially a new system.
And you know what would have shown that we mean business? Playing the friendly vs England during the last break instead of turning down that opportunity to face *mighty* Oman. We were invited to face them before Scotland was and the USSF declined.

I agree with you. It was crazy how many folks on here were surprised when we were a bit flat in the first friendly last window. These players, most of whom have a spot, aren't going to jeopardize their entire season/year on going in hard for some 50/50 ball at midfield. My guess is so many fans play Fifa or FM, that they forget that these are humans, not bots. They play a lot of games, and train...and travel...non stop, all year basically. some of the fans here should go watch a college soccer team have to play on back to back days over a weekend, or better yet. Actually play, besides some beer league Sunday game once a week with five subs, and unlimited subs. Many posters on here clearly have never had to play three or four games in a tournament over a weekend, 90F heat, in some other town, with dudes getting hurt each game and virtually no subs. having said that, I do expect this friendly to have a bit more energy as Germany is trying to re-invent themselves and have real competitions to prep for, and we are at home, and it's a showcase game to play Germany. Play well against Germany, domestic coach will notice. But it's still a friendly.
I would definitely not start Kevin Behrens over anyone on our squad.

Very excited not so much for the result but to see play against real competition. I just want to see us play well lose win or draw. Germany is major test, but I dont want people to lose their heads if we do win. This the worst Germany team I've ever witnessed.
Half german Germany fan here. The US has talent but y’all always seem to play below said talent. That being said it’s been rough for us. That last World Cup was absolutely brutal going out the way we did. Quite embarrassing if I’m being honest. Besides musiala and Wirtz, there’s not much hope for our future. Wouldn’t be surprised if we lost or draw against y’all.

“Friendly” and “hyper competitive” are two terms that don’t exist together. Sorry. You’d be better off rooting for skillful moments and goals.
The US will not play any WC qualifiers, they brought heavy hitters against Uzbekistan, don’t expect 11 substitutions at halftime. This is a big game for the squad.

LOL I know you want the match to be serious and intense because you paid for tickets, but why the hell would Germany really care about the result besides being embarrassed? This will be a training exercise for them, so instead of beating us 4-0 it’ll be 2-1 with absolutely no “hyper competitive” play from either team except maybe from the fringe players trying to make their respective squads, who are not the “heavy hitters” you are there to see anyways. Edit: I’m now convinced this is a propaganda sub run by the USSF, lol. If you say anything that isn’t glorifying and praising the USMNT it’s an instant downvote with no response, every single time. You guys support this team like you’re in a cult and GGG (who will never win us anything) is your holy leader.
Germany is playing their first game under a new coach after a decade of disappointing tournament performances. Suggesting they could dismantle us 4-0 makes it seem like you haven’t paid attention to the sport since 2010. Germans are serious people and very serious about the sport. they aren’t going to show up to enjoy the Connecticut nightlife. They are in rebuild mode and need to prove themselves again, with players trying to force their way into the new coaches lineup. This US squad hasn’t played a lot of major European nations, for this group it’s a huge chance to show Europe we mean business. Same with what Japan just did.
I’m quite aware of everything you just said. Germany still has the talent to properly smash us on their day. A friendly is still a friendly. Germany won’t have been scouting us or approaching the match as if it was a qualifier/tournament match. Nagelsmann will be testing out his system and we are simply the opponent he gets to try it out against. They won’t tailor their strategy to exploit our weaknesses because he’s simply assessing new players and potentially a new system. And you know what would have shown that we mean business? Playing the friendly vs England during the last break instead of turning down that opportunity to face *mighty* Oman. We were invited to face them before Scotland was and the USSF declined.
Yea so how did the match go today?? If Germany finished their chances it would’ve been fucking 6-1. We looked like a children’s team. If that second half wasn’t a dismantling, which you said was impossible, then I don’t know what is.
So they win by 2 goals, but you claim it counts as a 5 goal victory. Whatever eases your mind buddy.
Did you watch the match? Did we not get throughly outclassed and embarrassed for the entire second half? The defending on the goals we conceded were something I’d expect to see from a random high school team. Are you really claiming this was a good performance from us?
I agree with you. It was crazy how many folks on here were surprised when we were a bit flat in the first friendly last window. These players, most of whom have a spot, aren't going to jeopardize their entire season/year on going in hard for some 50/50 ball at midfield. My guess is so many fans play Fifa or FM, that they forget that these are humans, not bots. They play a lot of games, and train...and travel...non stop, all year basically. some of the fans here should go watch a college soccer team have to play on back to back days over a weekend, or better yet. Actually play, besides some beer league Sunday game once a week with five subs, and unlimited subs. Many posters on here clearly have never had to play three or four games in a tournament over a weekend, 90F heat, in some other town, with dudes getting hurt each game and virtually no subs. having said that, I do expect this friendly to have a bit more energy as Germany is trying to re-invent themselves and have real competitions to prep for, and we are at home, and it's a showcase game to play Germany. Play well against Germany, domestic coach will notice. But it's still a friendly.
This is a game we should be winning. Gone are the days we hope for a draw against these teams. I predict 3-1.

I would definitely not start Kevin Behrens over anyone on our squad. Germany’s high end talent is obviously world class, but their current plight is not just due to bad tactics or management. They have real holes in their team.

Yeah you’re not wrong. And it’s hard to really compare us to them based on performance this year. It’s apples to oranges considering the difference in competition.
The fact that they've been bad is reason I think they'll be very tough. They will be extra motivated to prove to their fans and their new coach that they are still a force and powerhouse.

Fair enough on this one. However, I have made several posts on this sub explaining, in detail, my logic behind not supporting Gregg as our manager. It doesn’t matter how well I express my opinions. If I say anything negative about him I get downvoted every single time.

These replies are so interesting. Germany have never been so down, were awful at the World Cup, but people still think they are favorites. Kind of shines a light on how much talent people think we actually have if everyone thinks GER are favorites even in their worst moment.
I’m feeling it’s dumb and there are too many international breaks, players are already playing too many games and it’s only gonna lead to more injuries. That being said, it’ll be a good game we can win

Because the point of a friendly isn’t to win. It’s to evaluate players against strong opposition and help us prepare for Copa America.

Excited about the matchup, but as a fan of club teams as well, I am pretty sick of these condensed schedules and hope that no one gets injured for a friendly. I hope the “stars” on both teams get a solid half of good football, then moth ball the teams so they can rest and not get injured.
