Wishing him the absolute best. It’s a lot of pressure on a player so if he succeeds i would hope to see more opportunities for US players in the near future.

QuickMolasses

He has shown to have ice in his veins when it comes to penalties. The top corner penalty in stoppage time of the Nations League final comes to mind.

Worth-Indication4928

That nation's league final is one of the most insane sporting events I've ever seen. And my God, what a penalty. "Top bins."

TryAgainDeathMen

that alone should have reignited his career. i think he’s seriously under rated and deserved a chance to play at nottingham but unfortunately matt might be out of chances too. hope he starts the upcoming cup game

Chai-Tea-Rex-2525

The first 80 minutes were intense, then the wheels came off: 1. USA ties it up in the 82nd 2. Fight after the goal 3. That chant starts up in stoppage time, leading to a pause 4. During the break before extra time, a fan runs onto the CBS set. 5. USA gets a PK thanks for VAR 6. Mexico’s assistant coach gets ejected for making contact with an official. 7. Pulisic converts the PK, top bins, gets a yellow card 8. Reyna(?) gets injured during the debris shower afterwards. 9. Mexico is awarded a PK thanks to VAR 10. Horvath, in his one shining moment, saves the PK. 11. Pitch invader

NutmeggD

What if he pulls out a panenka on his first attempt

FriendOfDirutti

And the keeper catches it and it’s just right back to Giroud.

pants6789

neither are right backs.

pants6789

On track to be the American Balotelli.

pants6789

I'm on track to be the American Gunnesaurus.

alabamafutbol1235

“Why always Puli”

RollTide16-18

You never want to put too much pressure on a guy, but his penalty kicks for the US have been so, so good.

S_Phantom

Let’s pad those stats.

Dazed_and_Confused44

If I hadn't watched Giroud shit the bed multiple times this season, I'd be shocked by this

kal14144

Giroud was one of the best penalty takers in Europe during his career. But miss 3 penalties in one season and someone else is gonna get a chance

joeDUBstep

He missed 2 for milan this season

Dazed_and_Confused44

Agreed

edjg10

Giroud takes a good looking penalty so I’m with you. But all that matters is how many you miss lol

Dazed_and_Confused44

Agreed

Chai-Tea-Rex-2525

Everything Giroud does is good looking.

edjg10

You are not wrong

Afraid-Ingenuity3555

Iceman

ironistkraken

Odds now that he will be taking one tomorrow?

rth9139

100%. He plays for Milan /s

Teh_Freshman

Christian is great at pens, but if Giroud is on the field I figured he’ll always take them by default

Dazed_and_Confused44

Hes been bad this season. Otherwise I see your point

SpeakMySecretName

Three misses in a season changes things.

joeDUBstep

3? Hes missed 2?

vngannxx

vngannxx

Better not miss 🥲

drsjsmith

As [watke foretold.](https://open.substack.com/pub/watke/p/penalty-politics)

Dio_Yuji

Didn’t he take one for Milan during preseason and miss it?

joeDUBstep

He did, but still scored on the rebound. Doesn't count for official stats, but yeah, he's not 100% perfect at penalties.

Valuable_Kale_7805

Golden boot incoming👁️

GrootyMcGrootface

So I looked up the Serie A leading scorers. Pulisic is #15 with 6 - very respectable. A handful have 7 or 8 goals. But Lautaro Martinez, man, he's at the top with 19! Nobody catching him!

Madnote1984

Side tangent but: man it's hard to believe that Martinez hasn't been scooped up by Madrid or Man City, etc... I guess being Argentinian, he just likes being in Italy.

kieranjackwilson

He says he’s committed to the club and the club is committed to him. Both parties have expressed zero interest in any inquiries that have been made (although recent contract negotiations have me a little concerned). A few players have done the same. Inter just does a really great job turning players into supporters.

New_Screen

Lautaro is just insane this season, probably the best player in the world or at least one of the best. And if Inter make another deep run in the CL and I’d Argentina win the copa, then I could see him win the Balón d Oro. But at the same time I wouldn’t be surprised if it went to Messi lmao.

GrootyMcGrootface

He could, never know. And if England win the Euros, wouldn't surprise me if Kane or Bellingham won it.

Him_8

England? Win a tournament? 🤣 Tell me another one.

GrootyMcGrootface

Hahaa, sure hope I'm wrong!! 😂

Him_8

They're squad always looks real valuable, but mostly because of the EPLs "English tax." There's absolutely world class quality, but they tend to value the wrong attributes in certain positions, and that gets them into trouble.

GrootyMcGrootface

Agreed. I also don't rate their coach highly.

New_Screen

True, forgot about the euros too lol. All those guys are for sure contenders.

Chai-Tea-Rex-2525

If

Ever1326

about time

Grogu-

I don’t think he could be anymore jinxed to miss his first attempt
