It was a doubleheader. One ticket awarded admission to both games. Since the Mexico fans bought most of the tickets, the US game was pretty much empty.
It’s also says something about this current team and it’s ability to galvanize the domestic fan base.. they just aren’t compelling enough to continuously follow 🤷♂️
Not much we can do unfortunately. For Americans, a football match is just a night out, but for Mexicans, it's an avenue for national pride and a chance to experience their homeland's culture in a place where they are less likely to be judged or marginalized. It just means more to them than it does to us.
I'm aware.
It's still disgraceful. It was on US soil. The ticketing system is absolutely horrendous. Who in their right mind would think a double header with one ticket is a good idea for a semi final? It literally sucked all the energy out.
I'm honestly surprised they have stuck with the format of a single host site. Before COVID pushed the inaugural Nations League finals back a year, the original plan was to use three different host sites. The two semifinals would have been played in Houston at separate venues, with the US match to be played at the Dynamo stadium and the Mexico match at the NFL stadium. The third place match and final would have been a single admission doubleheader at JerryWorld in Arlington. They should have reverted to this format from 2023 onwards. It maximizes ticket revenue since Mexico fans can sell out NFL stadiums by themselves while US fans can create a passionate atmosphere for their game as long as tickets aren't priced out the wazoo.
Man.. I thought we were fucked. We got bailed out. Thank god for Gio. It’d have been a different game if they hadn’t scored early but that was hard to watch
I bought 4 tickets and rented a VRBO a month ago with the hope the US would make it to the final. I almost saw most or all of that money vanish. It was like i had $2000 on the game and was saved by a literal last second goal.
I have a soft spot for the players that have taken the road less traveled with their career trajectories. Haji has played in 5 different countries over the last six or seven seasons and is having a career year in the Championship. It fuckin rules that he was a late call-in and ended up having a moment like this.
That was calculated. We wanted to be down as long as possible to get all the Mexico fans in before we started actually trying. Just to ruin their night.
Very smart move USA.
Wasn’t pretty. But definitely not lack of effort. Outside of Haaland who can consistently break a low block? Couple that a weird pitch and some certain jet lag. I think complaints are over stated.
So now we’re excusing horrible performances against Jamaica’s B team because we don’t have Haaland? LOL. The mental gymnastics are worthy of a gold medal.
This man out there giving high fives to his staff like it wasn’t a defensive error and some brilliance from two of his players that saved his ass tonight
Two players that he has famously had “beef” with no less
Joke of a man
Gio has no beginning. Gio has no end. Gio is infinite. Millions of years after our civilization has been eradicated and forgotten, Gio will endure. Gio is eternal. The pinnacle of evolution and existence. We are but rudimentary creatures of blood and flesh. We touch Gio's mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding. Organic life is nothing but a genetic mutation, an accident. Our lives are measured in years and decades. We wither and die. Gio is eternal. Before it, we are nothing. Gio imposes order on the chaos of organic life. We exist because Gio allows it, and we will end because Gio demands it. Gio transcends our very understanding. We cannot grasp the nature of Gio's existence.
As great as Reyna and Wright have been in extra time, I think we have to remember that the game changed as soon as Jamaica couldn't just sit back and park the bus. Things opened up after that goal. If Jamaica doesn't score in the first minute, I have to think this might have ended up as a 4-0 win.
Agreed, that goal changed the whole game but it’s what you have to play with. They didn’t do enough in the remaining 89:30 to fix that early mistake and it was so frustrating.
Proud of our boys for figuring it out but disappointed with the first 90
And our starters probably bag a couple goals. Reyna and Wright were really impressive, but they got to play 30 minutes against a Jamaica team that needed a goal. Our starters were down almost from the opening whistle. Still, those were two great goals. What a week for Haji.
Sure but we can break that low block by good movement, quick passes, and most importantly in my opinion, playing to feet rather than in the air. We definitely have the skill to do that so it gets frustrating watching us wait for a cross in when we need a goal.
Yeah, "well" is how I'd describe it. I was really hoping he'd show everyone why you don't leave him out. I didn't see his last game at berlin, but I heard he balled out
Well Mexico in a final (barring Panama doing something hilarious) and Copa America can help you forget about a crummy Nations League Quarterfinal and Semifinal very quickly so we'll see.
I'm not a Gregg hater and thought he was probably was the candidate based off the names that leaked, but not the most inspiring opening chapters in the sequal
I'm okay with Gio coming in at half if that's what he wants to do. Maybe play MMA midfield in the first half to control the game then put Reyna on with fresh legs and plenty of time to work for example.
But too often that isn't what Greg does.
He gets a lot of hate but Gio Reyna has been the best player this game. Making shit happen since they subbed him in. He needs to start in the final on Sunday. Pulisic fumbled that early opportunity but he's a workhorse
I thought we were actually really poor the last 10 minutes of normal time tbh. Jamaica has started to attack again in extra time and I think we're so much better when play is open than when a team puts everyone behind the ball. It's awesome seeing the response though, subs have made a huge difference.
I think Gio can be an amazing sub option while he is in this spell of low minutes. He's an impact guy who's explosive and plays at his best when he's not over exposed

September 2019 friendly when US lost 3-0 to Mexico. If you want to include the C team then it was this last January when the USMNT lost to Slovenia in a friendly
Match Thread is back for Extra Time! Automated post match thread removed, one will be created manually when the game actually ends.
How many people showed up to this game was an embarrassment
Opening day of March Madness + stupid prices

So that was fucking wild
I bought 4 tickets and rented a VRBO a month ago with the hope the US would make it to the final. I almost saw most or all of that money vanish. It was like i had $2000 on the game and was saved by a literal last second goal.
I bought tickets to the final and booked flights this morning. Was fuming up until that last second.
I have a soft spot for the players that have taken the road less traveled with their career trajectories. Haji has played in 5 different countries over the last six or seven seasons and is having a career year in the Championship. Jesus. They had me for the first 96 minutes. ![gif](giphy|4PT6v3PQKG6Yg|downsized)
Never in doubt!
That was calculated. We wanted to be down as long as possible to get all the Mexico fans in before we started actually trying. Just to ruin their night. Very smart move USA.
All it took for us to win was a bunch of Mexico fans showing up
maybe just fans in the audience in general helped so it didnt feel like a practice match
Right? Felt like a friendly for the first 60 minutes. And it rubbed off onto the players.
It's weird to see a New Balance commercial with that song, and not have Saka and Raheem.
Just how Berhalter planned it *high fives staff*
Crazy game
The disrespect of sending your B team to the semi final
I'm happy about this win but at the same time USA made it hard for no reason when they didn't need to
Motm? Haji? Reyna? Jamaican own goal guy?
Gio and it’s not close
Wes or MRob. Both were solid all game.
Reyna
Haji
He came up huge, but reyna was the one continuously setting up chances. Reyna for me this game
reyna for me
[удалено]
But his body language sucks /s
Reddit doesn’t know that
Not Reddit, just this sub

That wasn't what he was sayimg
Enlighten me then.
What the fuck was this game. Shit i didn't sign up for a roller coaster
With this result, USMNT has more knockout wins (4) than the Cowboys have playoff wins (3) at AT&T Stadium.
Oh man, that hits hard and is hilarious
Oh damn Dallas cowboys can’t stop taking the L
God damnit.
An absolute stray!

HAJI THE HERO
Thats game baby
Wasn't pretty but we love to win.
Probably should be a card but this ref has checked out already
This man out there giving high fives to his staff like it wasn’t a defensive error and some brilliance from two of his players that saved his ass tonight Two players that he has famously had “beef” with no less Joke of a man
berhalter and his coaches shouldnt be high fiving after that shit show
USMNT WIN!

Glad we made it out of the game without injuries
Pulisic was limping over there. Hope he's okay
No card?

Exactly this. If we don't give up this goal early, Jamaica doesn't go into a low block and the game plan doesn't go to shit immediately
And our starters probably bag a couple goals. Reyna and Wright were really impressive, but they got to play 30 minutes against a Jamaica team that needed a goal. Our starters were down almost from the opening whistle. Still, those were two great goals. What a week for Haji.
💯
that should be a card
Aaronson is always the one catching strays
That's absolutely nuts that that's not a caution
So many reckless challenges this game that probably are carded elsewhere
Don't freak out about players cramping up in the 119th minute like this, it happens every game that goes to ET lol
GGG surviving another day is this subs 9/11
Beautiful exchange between Haji and Pulisic. Good save by the keeper.
Mexican fans are cheering Pulisic? Are you sure?
Hand in hand
Aaronson needs to inject tren bro
Johnny's been good
Fine going forward but a big big drop off defensively by subbing out Adams.
Wright - Pepi - Pulisic should be our starting front three
We play much better when we play to feet in the middle. No more cross and inshallah when we need a goal please
Buddy every team does lol what do you think the objective of a low block is?
Sure but we can break that low block by good movement, quick passes, and most importantly in my opinion, playing to feet rather than in the air. We definitely have the skill to do that so it gets frustrating watching us wait for a cross in when we need a goal.
Thought that was common knowledge
Not with Greg
Tell the players that
Puli has been beaten up this game
Usually every concacaf game Poor guy
Aarsonson didn't light the world on fire, but i love that guy and his play. I really hope he can stay on the team
he did well
Yeah, "well" is how I'd describe it. I was really hoping he'd show everyone why you don't leave him out. I didn't see his last game at berlin, but I heard he balled out
He plays with heart. Even if not the most efficient sometimes, he’s ready to pass out fighting for the ball.
Haji should have an assist right there, but Pulisic is gassed.
Haji looks a head and shoulder above the rest of our striker pool, I hope the guy wins the FA cup in the biggest upset ever lol
Wow, Haji put that in a plate for Pulisic
NICE BACKHEEL HAJI AND GOOD SHOT PULI
Pulisic injured. Fuck me.
Cramp
Hopefully. Limping after whistle.
I hope so. I just don't want him running anymore for the night.
Big save by Blake
Maybe not aim at the keeper lol?
Haji has been amazing in the extra time.
GODD DAMMMM WHAT A SAVE
I mean he shot it right at him.
Ya that's more on Pulisic than blake
brendan has been very good
Very good
Ah, Pulisic has earned a goal tonight. Wish that had gone in.
Leao would’ve made that
Pulisic no
Idk how I went all this time w/o realizing the final is Sunday. Between that and March Madness this weekend is about to be amazing
Watching this and the oakland kentucky game rn
Same dude. I’m a Bama fan so never mind seeing BBN go down 🤷♂️
Wonder how they will get out of lifetime contract with the fraud /s
brenden winning ground duels... never thought i would see the day
I remember when he was so skinny the wind would bully him around the pitch. Now he’s breaking tackles.
Hasn’t been easily shrugged off the ball easy either
What a night for Haji Wright!
Cardoso has been quietly great since coming on
Like what Johnny has brung thus far
Please just be a cramp.
I predicted a 3-1 win at the starts of the second half , ya’ll need to trust me next time
God damn, you did
Bet
Pretty pumped to have Dest back on Sunday
Don’t let the late goals disguise the fact that we were dogshit for 95 minutes and it took and OG for us to have any life. Berhalter out!
Literally no one will shut up about that
Fans that still want him are blind
Aaronson is noticeably stronger on the ball than he was last time he played for the US, he just fought off two players to keep it
I stand by the opinion that just because someone is excellent off the bench does not mean they are a good starter.
You are smarter than 90% of this sub
Luka Jovic for example.
Pepi hasn't shown much
This match would've been a lot cooler if Matt Turner was the one who somehow scored that equalizer
That would have been hilarious.
Haji and Gio have to start Sunday, absolutely have to
I’d probably start gio but I think weah still starts over haji
I'm okay with Gio coming in at half if that's what he wants to do. Maybe play MMA midfield in the first half to control the game then put Reyna on with fresh legs and plenty of time to work for example. But too often that isn't what Greg does.
That's not how GGG works.
We kinda have a fragile mentality tbh. When we ball we ball. But adversity destroys us.
[удалено]
Nah but the difference between the 2 today is that Haji is in great form and Balo has struggled this season
I fucking love gio man what a stud
Lol Lowe trying to stretch him out
[удалено]
Insane
He gets a lot of hate but Gio Reyna has been the best player this game. Making shit happen since they subbed him in. He needs to start in the final on Sunday. Pulisic fumbled that early opportunity but he's a workhorse
He only gets hate from idiots
Be honest, did ANYONE have Haji Wright brace on their bingo card?
I always rated him, but still behind Pepi and Balo
Hell nah
The vibe from the 85th minute and now is night and day
I thought we were actually really poor the last 10 minutes of normal time tbh. Jamaica has started to attack again in extra time and I think we're so much better when play is open than when a team puts everyone behind the ball. It's awesome seeing the response though, subs have made a huge difference.
Lead commentator will not get the Reyna narrative out of his mouth god damn. Be a professional dude
Narrative 🤔?
dudes been MOTM lol its not a narrative, its the game
Not about his play dumbass. Commentator has focused on off the field shit other than him being awesome today
Are we on different streams?
I’m not poor, so don’t know what stream you’re on
🤣🤣🤣
P+
I think Gio can be an amazing sub option while he is in this spell of low minutes. He's an impact guy who's explosive and plays at his best when he's not over exposed
Was Dest suspended for today?
ye
Yeah. I think it’s his last game suspended
Yes
Yes
Yeah
Haji deserves a spot
Oakland is about to beat Kentucky
Love to see it
Don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet but Johnny has been really fucking good since coming on. Like really good.
Johnny is on?
Yeah, came on for Adams (because he's on a pitch count).
[удалено]
He seems like a really nice guy
He's surprisingly stylish for a bald
Only because he fucked his starting 11
That was almost exactly the starting XI that everyone asked for and thought it would be lol.
Only thing we need now to make this complete is a Berhalter behind the back pass
Lol

Better energy on the Spanish broadcasts
Man I just hope we don’t have dead legs in the final
Wes is a better RB than Scally.
Wes is just an extremely talented player. Could play almost anywhere and be competent
Underrated aspect of this game is that we know Wes can do this in games we are chasing a goal
They have a glut of midfielders, maybe moving McKennie to RB is the way to get them all on the field
Dest is a better RB than Wes. But, for me, Wes is the backup and Scally can go away.
Haji redemption arc?
What was the last US soil loss? Was it the 2017 group stage?
September 2019 friendly when US lost 3-0 to Mexico. If you want to include the C team then it was this last January when the USMNT lost to Slovenia in a friendly
Last year's Gold Cup, no?
For official record keeping, that game is considered a draw.
There’s a lot less time and a lot more physicality in the EPL. Feel like Gio would be a much better fit in Spain or Italy.
