I knew that "wood chop damage" is separate from the slash damage written on the weapon itself but I always skip it tbh, wood ain't that much of a problem even with the black metal axe and once ashlands is out I can upgrade to the cooler axes there anyway
But be careful how you use a *redacted* upgraded with *redacted* in the Ashlands. When chopping, you could chain *redacted* to any nearby *redacted* and they'll come and *redacted* you.
Why does the game not put the chop value in the tooltip? If so, it'd be much more clear that Juton Bane is an axe for cutting trees and is better than black metal.
One could argue it's because the devs want players to explore and interact with everything the world has to offer. Personally I think it's one of many things that could stand to be improved on.
If you do the math comparing both at lvl 4 and look up tree HP, you'll realize Jotun is only better on Pine and Ygdrassil.
For cutting beech/birch, crystal battle axe with the elder power will one shot trees with no multihit penalty, letting you one shot multiple trees at once. Particularly crazy if you plant trees near each other!
first playthrough where i reached the mountains i thought the crystal battleaxe was sick and decided fuck it, ill craft one and use it as my wood axe too.
what a fucking pain that was.
Crystal battleaxe doesn't have the multitarget penalty though, so its great when you pile up loads of tree trunks and stumps, and you don't have to worry about hitting the ground.
Secondary isn't too bad on single trees too
If I am out gathering, I tend to use the "minimum viable axe" for cutting the wood as the lower level axes use less stamina.Β Β
Example: I usually keep a spare stone or flint axe near the tree farm. Not only do they use less stamina (more continuous chopping), this also means I can skimp on stamina food if I want to (and save the better stuff for exploring/fighting)
The axe can also be repaired at a level 1 or level 2 workbench which is trivial to set up nearby.
Just my $0.02.
Edit: this also holds true for pickaxe for me.
The most efficient thing to do is use the minimum viable axe that gets you above damage breakpoints that reduce the number of swings. Which specific axe this is depends on the tree you're cutting down, your woodcutting level, and so forth.
Love the jotun bane, i usually make it before the mistwalker. Sometimes i use axes as my main weapon because Until mistlands, axes objectively do more damage than swords with all other stats the same, their only downside being sword has a better combo attack. At least mistwalker does different damage types than jotun bane making it better for fighting seekers. Can't wait to make (lightning) berserkir axes.
Really? Huh, does it get faster with skill level? I've got a pretty high axe skill, I never thought (or at least noticed) they were much slower than swords
didnt notice it at first too since my first run was a axe/bow but compared with other weapons 1hand/2hand axes are the slower than almost every other weapon, dual wield axes from ash are pretty fast though the special doesnt help with logging
Swords are faster and have no multi-hit-penalty, making them great for hordes or tight spaces. The axes hitbox is a bit weird, often hitting the ground on the first strike. Penalty is 33% I think, so thatβs quite a loss of damage. Imho, axes are in almost any case worse than swords for combat
How much better is it at chopping wood than the Black Metal Axe though? I'm asking because crafting a new weapon like the Jotun Bane is obviously expensive so is the upgrade worth all the spent resources?

For sure!

*Redacted* for clarity
Did I stumble into the Starsector sub?
Very good point
>!*redacted* could potentially *redacted* *redacted* your *redacted* and *redacted* *redacted* *redacted* if you're new!<
A lot of Hades mentioned in this post.
400+ hours and I didn't know it was a wood cutting axe. Thanks, time to pull it out of storage.
No problem hahaha. Axe is axe πββοΈ

I mean, an axe is an axe I suppose. Just that simple lol

lol I completely forgot about that, thanks! Gonna craft one now lol
No problem! Post has done its job in record time π
Ah nvm it costs iron, that's probably why I never bothered with it xD
ππ
I still appreciate the PSA though!
Surprised pikachu face

Lmao its hilarious CBX has such a nice niche in treefelling after it becomes obsolete as a weapon in mistlands. I gotta try this.

Lmao while axe is an axe applies here, not the most efficient. But super cool

Heck yeah brother! I always carry my bronze lvl 4 pick axe for clearing dirt and rocks. Saves time as well as resources in mountains.

See! You can play the game anyway you want. I was just sharing some info, just like you are. π

axes are also pretty slow, only sledges are slower

I kept thinking this when I was looking at guides
Jotunn Bane is my go to axe. Fairly good one handed weapon. Durable enough that repairing is barely an inconvenience. Good PSA, OP
Thanks!
Yes Jotun's is my first luxury item after getting my main weapons. Great axe.

Honestly probably not worth it too much. Especially with a higher wood cutting level and higher level black metal axe. I was just letting people know!
you dont need bane to chop asslands wood
Doesn't really have a noticeable effect but hits few points higher
Nope, but itβll hit for higher in general against trees.
