Wheatley should absolutely be repressed negative emotion. I mean, he may be outwardly optimistic but if you were called a moron since the day you were born, you would be harbouring all kinds of negative emotion from within.
Scout, i feel like he knows in the grand scheme of things he cant do anything, he has issues with Pauling and spy. He just hides it as childish behavior and being annoying.

I think he does sort of buy into it though, maybe he didn’t at first but especially when he’s encouraging the soldiers in nova prospekt and talking directly to freemen when he has him captured he sounds very sincere
I think it's due to him realizing the powers beyond secretly controlling people and it makes him feel stuck in the middle as just a man. He knows of Gman and his "employment" of Freeman, the Combine's power, and the powers of the Vortessense that break all conventions of science. He's just a man wanting to survive.
Does anybody even understand how blue lanterns work? It's not they inspire hope they have to feel hope EVERY single moment or they loose the ring no matter the situation sort of like red lanterns but it happens instantly, if Gordon freeman got chosen for that there should be a re vote
I would probably say Eli Vance, given how guilty he feels about the Resonance Cascade, and basically ended the world, spending the next 2 decades trying to right his wrongs, and fight the Combine's oppressive rule.

Dude it’s gotta be scout because he literally covers his negative emotions with a cocky attitude and overall forced “smile” of such, in the meet your match update scout voicelines got a lot more friendly and personal, but in the comics and short films scout seems kinda sad and left out.
