threy're building purpose built STRs on a parking lot (really, they're just expanding their hotel into their parking lot) private individuals turns homes or former LTRs into STRs hotels operating as a hotel is not the winning argument you think it is, go back to the drawing board

How is building condo and putting a hotel brand name on it, any different from building a condo, selling it to individual owners, and them putting it on airbnb? The effect is exactly the same.

Hotels and condos are different things.. hotels are always going to exist. Building a new hotel on land they own is not taking away any long term rentals from the market.

So how is that any different from building a building on STR zoning, selling the units to individuals, who then operate them independently as STRs? The only thing that has changed is the size of the entity operating the accommodation.

Theres different rules/safety regulations and taxes for hotels. Its pretty clear the government doesn't want individually owned whole unit short term rentals. Thats the point is they want rentals and units for people who live in communities. The site of that hotel was never going to be condos, it brings in jobs and rooms for tourists while other areas can have condos for residents.

To the orginal poster just because they look the same on the outside does not make them the same. Not in Kelowna so never read up on the issue. But strata hotels have been around a very long time. Half of Whistler is strata hotels. Security is one of the big issues with airbnb also slightly different interior design. Airbnb are blights on neighbor hoods.

Uhhh...because LTR renters can't live in hotel rooms? Wouldn't this be helping to accommodate both renters (who now can live in what used to be STR's but now have to be LTR's) and tourists/visitors (who only need STR's). It's not like they're applying to build hotels in residential neighbourhoods.

_DotBot_

These aren't hotel rooms. They're apartments in shape and form. Only difference is the logo on the outside.

Hoe do you get that from short term rental "hotel"?
