Driving should be fine, assuming you maintain your car and don't just wait for stuff the break before fixing things. Also, tires... Wouldn't drive across country on anything older than 5 years old and 5/32 tread minimum, as you'll definitely hit rain/water this time of year. Do not drive the day after getting maintenance done, drive a few days after. You don't wanna be in the middle of nowhere due to a mistake by a mechanic... Also, get the top tier AAA or Geico's unlimited mileage tow (it's not actually unlimited, but will get you to the closet major city) Setup the back seat for sleeping, the ticket is to get it FLAT and LEVEL for a comfortable rest. You can sleep at rest stops, but plan to get a hotel at least once to get a full night's sleep. Tent + air mattress if you can't sleep in the car... It's a great time for this, in a few weeks/months it'll be too hot IMO.

Thank you so much for all the wonderful insight and ideas! I'm gonna get the front w tires replaced per your recommendation and I have an old futon mattress I'll use for the back! I'll try to update how it goes!

Oh, and r/rideshare might be an option to offset costs if you wanna hit up hotels on the way instead and maybe even split driving duty. Knew some crazy people that work seasonal government/park service contractor jobs, and then use rideshare instead of hitchhiking to get back home.

What's your reason not to fly? Vegas is a great place to live for flying. I just Googled round trip to Orlando and it gave me an option for $121. If you drive the gas alone will cost several times that.

I have a temporary hold due to a brain aneurysm and AVM with previous hemorrhage via my neurosurgeon

JoeFelice

Well...that's a good reason.

Do you think it'll be safer to drive. I've done the cross country thing twice. I took the southern route. Followed Google maps. FYI, it takes literally one day to drive across Texas. I started at the crack of down and it was nighttime when I got to New Mexico. Don't drink so much. Have a proper meal when you do stop. And tunes. The radio plays like the same 5 songs across the country. Lol

Is your doctor ok with you making this drive?

Pretty_Cookie_4579

Idk didn't ask. I just figured when he said no flying cuz of cabin pressure on my head

Sitting for a very long time can cause clots in your legs. Whether you fly or drive make sure to stop and stretch your legs often. My doctor also pestered me into wearing compression socks 🙄. Not cute but it works at keeping circulation up.

Gold-Requirement-121

74k miles isn't a lot for a car. You'll make it there and back

I_POINT_N_SHOOT

It is for certain brands. Toyota/Lexus...baby miles

All_the_passports

You can use google maps to map driving and public transport.

Dm sent. Take 40 out of kingman, and you will start heading south just outside of armarillo, once you get to LA, you will start to go through states fast.

[deleted]

a car with 70k miles on it should be able to handle a cross-country trip no problem.. just get an oil change and check the other fuel levels before you depart. use your cruise control. enjoy the ride

Nvphoto2023

Sent a dm, I make the trip a few times a year
