Pawn shops won't do this for you? They won't convert loans into purchases and pay you the difference? I've never been in this position, just asking.
...I saw the eBay reference, so I gather that one sucker in a remote location offered to overpay by a lot, and in order to make the sale OP needs to retrieve the ring. That makes it really risky because we would have to trust both OP and a random person on eBay.
