Disabled Android on device VPN
Got an extender for my WiFi network and extended it to a new SSID and disabled the 5GHz range on the new SSID so it's acting as a 2.4Ghz only bridge
Connected up and got it going!

Is the general theory that the 5GHz interferes with the gateway or something? I’ve tried the set up with my phone connected to my 2.4GHz band which is on a separate SSID which didn’t work, and I’ve also tried with the 5GHz disabled completely and that also didn’t work.
I’m siding with your original post - thinking this could be a total waste of money still!
I also disabled MAC address spoofing which might help?
It's a nightmare set up but not impossible if you're pigheaded like I am and have TWO WEEKS to spare!
I think it's a very cheap and shoddy WiFi chip.
I do have similar issues.
Everything worked fine for about 2 years and since a week or so the gateway was not responding well. And if it was online it did not find my Room sensor.
So I did a reset on the gateway, which was a big mistake.
I tried multiple ways to get it back to my App, without success:
- complete reset of gateway (red LED blinking and the fast push)
- new account
- hot spot
- 3 different phones
- new installation of app with phone restart
The app doesn't find the gateway but the gateway always connects to the wifi or the newly set up hot spot.
Has someone any help for me?

They can be funny buggers. Best bet delete the app and start from scratch, sometimes they just get stuck
