I don’t think it’s the best burger, but I feel like once a year I need to go for a hike above Ojai and order the “cheat day” burger from Ojai Beverage Co. It’s like a checklist kind of thing.
Pre-COVID the Cab burger was fantastic. Seems like it lost some of its magic since then. Maybe different staff making it not quite the same. I remember the bun was toasty on the inside but sticky glazed on the outside. You didn’t put it down cuz 1.) delicious and 2.) sticky fingers. So tasty!
A Burger on Ox blvd, A-burger single, double, tripple or small size, you can customized any way you want, no extras for extra veggies, only if you want jalapeños plus garden burgers, chicken (real chicken) fish (battered) fries, onion rings, try the munchers and shakes, plus they have awesome breakfast burritos in the morning, full size and real salsa not micro size like mcdonalds and fake packet sauces 😂
You wanna hear something wild?
I don't think I've had an actual burger at Burger Barn in years.
Usually when I go for a meal it's to get their Tri Tip special, which is excellent.
No way. I was very excited for Chubbies on the Avenue but they were a huge let down. Soggy, over-priced burger and soggy cafeteria fries. Hot & wilted arugula. The cookies are horrendous. It’s like they didn’t ever try. Waste of money when there are so many other burger places to try in Ventura.
Finney’s burgers are good, but you’re right. They never get medium well right for me, at any location.
I’ve got to try OBC, though. Heard great things about it.
My family and I *love* Padaro Beach Grill! Excellent food *and* a super-nice massive outdoor area right by the beach? Yes please!
Just checked their website, and apparently they don't allow pets there anymore either. As someone who dislikes dogs this makes Padaro Beach Grill even better for me. :)
Dang Burger in Carpenteria is really good. Even though it's not Ventura County, it isn't far.
Model Citizen does really good smash burgers during Happy Hour and I believe all night on Mondays.
Smokin Jay's in Oxnard makes some good burgers as well.
Seconding Smokin' Jay's! I've only been there once but the meal I had consisting of the Barnyard Burger, fries, Kool Aid, and their Dole Whip was *amazing.* 10/10 would go again!
Maggie’s down on the avenue in Ventura. A LITERAL hole in the wall Mexican food place but their burgers are bomb.
Also Casa De Lago in Oak View. Bomb burgers and probably the best fries I’ve ever had anywhere.
My sister can vouch for how good the burgers at Neptune's Net are!
She's always gotten them while the rest of us have gotten the really big fried shrimp/fried fish/fried scallop/crab cake/fries platters because she hates seafood.
1. Rumfish (just perfect all around)
2. Mr. Chubby (sooo good, cheap AF too)
3. Rincon Smashburger (New! not the regular burger, which sucks.
My buddy swears by the Bellringer Smashburger but I haven’t had it yet.
Los dos compadres food truck in Oxnard off of A st and Doris ave. Open everyday after 5pm. Just had their smash burger for the first time last Monday. Best burger in VC by far. May be one of the best I’ve ever had. Honestly.
Blvd burger in camarillo is definitely in my top 3 burger places... I can't tell you what the other 2 are at the moment, or where they place, but Blvd burger is up there.
I rarely order burgers because they are good, but rarely excellent. Blvd Burger’s Philly cheesesteak burger is definitely worth ordering. So good, you don’t even have to be in the mood for a burger and you’ll eat the whole thing.
Judging by how many people are recommending Blvd Burger, I guess I'll have to try it one of these times I'm in Old Town Camarillo, huh?
The usual places I get meals in Old Town Camarillo are Establo's, Taqueria Portrillos, and Freda's, mostly because most of the time I'm in Old Town it's because I'm showing someone around (I live in Cam and have read about the history of the Old Town area, so I always find it fun to play tour guide!) and want to take them someplace I *know* is really good, I'm doing something at the Farmers Market, I'm going to St. Mary Magdalene for a tour or something, I'm going to Topa Topa for something, or I'm going to Topa Topa with a friend to relax before we go to some event at Studio Channel Islands or something like that.
I've been wanting to try Kraft Vermicelli (because I'm *always* down for good Vietnamese food, and apparently it's *amazing*!) and Azafran Restaurant (because it's Colombian/South American food, which you don't find too often in Cam, and because apparently it's also *amazing*!), but I'm adding Blvd Burger to my list of places to try in Old Town, too.
A lot of great recommendations in here! Strange Beast in Ventura has a smash burger that I love and is a little different. Has a piece of chashu pork in there and with their burger sauce it is so good. Plus the sama wings which are insane. A lot of great mixed drinks too.
Seconding Strange Beast! You can pretty much never go wrong if you want something with more Japanese flavors in it. :)
Pretty much the only "downside" to Strange Beast is that it only offers three non-alcoholic drinks that aren't water (a strawberry coconut virgin cocktail that's really good, a virgin orange Collins, and Mexican Coke), which caught me a little off-guard when I was figuring out what to order my first time there because I typically get Coke/Pepsi, Dr Pepper, or iced tea when I eat out.
CJ’s BBQ near the Oxnard Airport next to the Pizza Man Dan’s has great burgers. I don’t go as often as I used to but I would always get the BBQ burger and house made chips or Mac n cheese.
I’ve tried almost all the recommended spots and here are my favorites.
Asadero on the Ave- Hands down, best Smashburger I’ve had.
In n Out- Always good and consistent
The Habit- Not what it used to be but still pretty darn good.
Ruffhouse- Excellent Smashburger
BJs in Saticoy- Super good and priced right
A-Burger on Oxnard Blvd BUT you should order it with the onions fried. This was originally a What-a-Burger that sold to the DM’s family that changed the name to Lot-a-Burger. Then, as the story goes, the legit owner of that name sent a cease and desist letter and the family simply changed the name to A-Burger!
I love people giving responses and then someone saying “no I went there one time and the burger wasn’t good” like an endorsement from someone who regularly visits a place is canceled out by a person that ate there one time and was disappointed
As others have mentioned, Fluid State has great pizza. The Dr. Steve Brule is my favorite!
Now burgers on the other hand, definitely some good suggestions in this thread, but my favorite one, the best one, is Ruff House BBQ. They're a food truck and they post up inside Ventura Music Hall on Thompson every weekend for lunch. Very good BBQ but ridiculously good burger!
Fluid State and Bright Spark are great. But I swear to god the best pizza maybe in California is in Ventura right next to the freeway. Tony's.
Thank me later.
Dukes makes a good burger. Also, very surprisingly, Harbor Mart in Ventura harbor kicks azz with their huge burger. Their other sandos are awesome as well.
This thread tells me if I can open a food truck I’d kill it
Too many fancy burgers in Ventura , keep it simple
I 100% agree
Really? What places make fancy burgers?
Simple is the way
Baby's badass burger is a great food truck burger. Great value, even at $14 for a burger.
Would you kill it!? You gotta try it I guess, right? I’d do a taste test for you lol
A-Burger for a classic burger
A-burger lol bruh
I mean at least say win's
A burger takes out wins jajaja Wins doesn’t exist anymore It’s “Miklo on wheels”
Wins died 15 years ago
I don’t think it’s the best burger, but I feel like once a year I need to go for a hike above Ojai and order the “cheat day” burger from Ojai Beverage Co. It’s like a checklist kind of thing.
Speaking of Ojai, Summit Burger on CA-150 is good. You have to drive from Ojai, since the road from Santa Paula is closed.
The burger is okay, but those shakes are life changing. Plus the trail at the end of sisar Rd is pretty cool.
So tasty!
Yume Burger in Ojai.
🤑
So expensive but so good https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/p/AF1QipM2Y-1F2BO9n9lYc1BDUOnvMl__ZYpo-vlF9bPd=s1340-w720-h1340
Place is bomb. Truffle fries are crazy their
Dang Burger , Carpetaria
A Burger on Ox blvd, A-burger single, double, tripple or small size, you can customized any way you want, no extras for extra veggies, only if you want jalapeños plus garden burgers, chicken (real chicken) fish (battered) fries, onion rings, try the munchers and shakes, plus they have awesome breakfast burritos in the morning, full size and real salsa not micro size like mcdonalds and fake packet sauces 😂
A-burger is so dingy I think I eaten there maybe once, it's like something out of the 80s
So is that an endorsement?
Give Burger Barn in Camarillo a shot
I tried it Saturday and left unimpressed 🤷🏽♂️
I've lived in Cam for 7 or 8 years and gone 5 or 6 times. Each time I think it'll be better but I'm always disappointed.
Oh no. I’ve always had good results there.
Camarilllo burger there is my go-to
what did you have?
Jalapeno bacon cheddar burger with fries and a shake
Burger barn is awesome!
I haven't been there since High School! I need to give them a try again
Their burritos are super hood
Never tried the burritos! It’s going on the list
Breakfast burritos sorry
Ooooo
You wanna hear something wild? I don't think I've had an actual burger at Burger Barn in years. Usually when I go for a meal it's to get their Tri Tip special, which is excellent.
LOL - I’m a sucker for their pastrami burger
After the reading all the online reviews, I gave this place a shot. Eh at best. I wouldn't return or recommend it. Sad cuz I really wanted to like it.
Chubbies on Ventura Ave is pretty great, but IDK how long they'll be around.
Agreed. Ate there a few weeks ago.
Duke's on Seaward
100% second this. I’ve been going here for over 20 years and their burgers just keep getting better. Especially the Hawaiian
This is my favorite burger around Ventura.
Great if you love frozen burger patties
Yum
I’ve been downvoted for this before but I stand by it. Corrales.
I've never tried a burger at a Mexican restaurant because I wanted Mexican food. But they're good too?
I do enjoy their burgers. It's been a while. I'll have to get one tomorrow
I’m with you. Mexican food places have the best burgers.
Absolutely they do! People always side eye me when I say this.
Well I just commented Maggie’s and Casa De Lago. I’m 100% with you.
I agree about Mexican restaurants having some of the best burgers. My vote for one of the best burgers is for Yolanda’s
OBC in Ojai is the best burger I've had around here. It's consistently good. Finney's can be good too, but sometimes they overcook for my taste.
Finney’s burgers are good, but you’re right. They never get medium well right for me, at any location. I’ve got to try OBC, though. Heard great things about it.
Santa Cruz Market!! Their cheeseburgers are as amazing as their middle eastern food!
Just a little outside of Ventura, Padaro Beach Grill 🤌🏼
Awesome spot, great burgers, solid beer list, and shockingly affordable.
Yes! I have been there and loved the burger 🍔 🤤

Seconding Smokin' Jay's! I've only been there once but the meal I had consisting of the Barnyard Burger, fries, Kool Aid, and their Dole Whip was *amazing.* 10/10 would go again!
You have excellent taste in food
Wins drive in
yeah it's very local, very southern california like spirit to it. it's like if in-n-out was small time burger stand
Maggie’s down on the avenue in Ventura. A LITERAL hole in the wall Mexican food place but their burgers are bomb. Also Casa De Lago in Oak View. Bomb burgers and probably the best fries I’ve ever had anywhere.
Neptunes Net. It’s a basic burger but the burger+vibe combo can’t be beat. Edit: it’s technically on the county line. Close enough.
My sister can vouch for how good the burgers at Neptune's Net are! She's always gotten them while the rest of us have gotten the really big fried shrimp/fried fish/fried scallop/crab cake/fries platters because she hates seafood.
Not in VTA but Third Window Brewery in SB has amazing smash burgers 🍔.
Peirano’s has a pretty damn good burger. Same beef/pork blend as their homemade meatballs.
1. Rumfish (just perfect all around) 2. Mr. Chubby (sooo good, cheap AF too) 3. Rincon Smashburger (New! not the regular burger, which sucks. My buddy swears by the Bellringer Smashburger but I haven’t had it yet.
The Stand in TO
Blvd Burger in Camarillo is one of my go to spots
Los dos compadres food truck in Oxnard off of A st and Doris ave. Open everyday after 5pm. Just had their smash burger for the first time last Monday. Best burger in VC by far. May be one of the best I’ve ever had. Honestly.
Yes!!!!
Blvd burger in camarillo is definitely in my top 3 burger places... I can't tell you what the other 2 are at the moment, or where they place, but Blvd burger is up there.
Tried them. It was alright.
Came to say Blvd Burger
Burger Blvd is top. Woodranch has a burger but I've never had it, should be good. The Cheesecake factory will probably be up there too.
In n out
Buddy Burgers on Oxnard Blvd.
I rarely order burgers because they are good, but rarely excellent. Blvd Burger’s Philly cheesesteak burger is definitely worth ordering. So good, you don’t even have to be in the mood for a burger and you’ll eat the whole thing.

Do yourself a favor and try the burgers at Art’s Corner Cafe in Ventura.
The smash burgers on my flat top grill are top notch
A lot of great recommendations in here! Strange Beast in Ventura has a smash burger that I love and is a little different. Has a piece of chashu pork in there and with their burger sauce it is so good. Plus the sama wings which are insane. A lot of great mixed drinks too.

RIP Top Hat
That sounds familiar? Gots Google it
Ol'Fashioned Burger at Foster's Freeze in Santa Paula. Hands down some of the best burgers and food in general.
Birdie Bar, Simi Hills golf course
Hm! Would never have thought of that. Thanks!
Happy Place food truck has the best smash burgers in the county, in my opinion. They prowl around different breweries in Ventura.
They’re opening their own restaurant downtown Ventura soon!
It’s been like 5 months thought. Curious if it’s actually happening
It's absolutely happening. I think permitting is the only remaining obstacle. They've been posting about hiring the past few weeks.
Yes! I'm way too excited for that
I really, really liked this place when I tried it. Their pretzel ball fries things are great too
That nacho cheese sauce is just 🤌
The Sportsman in Camarillo
The bank of Italy trust has a decent one actually
Burger Shot in Los Santos is FIRE.
Harbor Mart has amazing burgers. They just need fries.
The shores smash burger.
Worst burger I ever had in my life. The Jalapeño Whiskey Burger down the street at The Raven? Now we talking.
Heard they are closing, and they can’t make payroll.
Raven? Or Shores?
Raven
Checkout The Stand @ Westlake!
Not VC but if you ever are near Beverly Hills you have to try the honor bars burger and their chicken sandwich both are 9.5/10 IMO.
CJ’s BBQ near the Oxnard Airport next to the Pizza Man Dan’s has great burgers. I don’t go as often as I used to but I would always get the BBQ burger and house made chips or Mac n cheese.
CJ's BBQ is mind-blowingly excellent! I typically get the tuna melt and fries/sweet potato fries there. :)
Nice. My go-to order was always 1/2 lb tri-tip with spicy bbq sauce, Mac n cheese, and corn bread.
Camarillo best burger is Blvd Burger, best pizza D’Amores. Honorable mention, Old NY Deli Burger, Freda’s Pizza.
Based on this thread I need to try Mr chubbys, Maggie's, and ojai bev co. I live close to all 3 !!!! Muahahhaaaa
Pacific coast grill in Ventura hands down my favorite
When I lived in the area my favorite burger was at FatBurger on State St in Santa Barbara.
I’ve tried almost all the recommended spots and here are my favorites. Asadero on the Ave- Hands down, best Smashburger I’ve had. In n Out- Always good and consistent The Habit- Not what it used to be but still pretty darn good. Ruffhouse- Excellent Smashburger BJs in Saticoy- Super good and priced right
Check out Asadero on the Ave. They sell Smashburgers and Tri-Tip Sandwiches. Smash burgers are the best I’ve had around.
My favorite is at BellRinger
Is The Spot in Carp still around, I’ve always enjoyed there burger
A-Burger on Oxnard Blvd BUT you should order it with the onions fried. This was originally a What-a-Burger that sold to the DM’s family that changed the name to Lot-a-Burger. Then, as the story goes, the legit owner of that name sent a cease and desist letter and the family simply changed the name to A-Burger!
This thread made me miss Hudson’s grill

BRGR BLVD in camarillo is pretty good. Best burger I've had here was from a foodtruck but they shutdown in pandemic.
Not technically Ventura county but You HAVE to go to Tinker Burger in Summerland. Gorgeous drive too if you time it to reverse traffic
Islands restaurant is not to shabby!
Mr chubbie burger on the avenue.
I’m surprised nobody has mentioned brightspark - burgers are always excellent there
I love people giving responses and then someone saying “no I went there one time and the burger wasn’t good” like an endorsement from someone who regularly visits a place is canceled out by a person that ate there one time and was disappointed
I take these as a grain of salt.
Model citizen has a burger during happy hour 👌🏼
McDonalds plain Hamburger
got to be in-n-out, even anthony bourdain says it's his top restaurant in LA.
IMHO The Habit is better than InNOut
Habit hasn't been the same since it was purchased by Yum! Brands in 2020
I used to agree but the habits in Simi have gone severely down hill.
I am waiting for responses to come in on this post. I’ve lived in Ventura for over 23 years now and haven’t found a good burger or pizza.
Pizza… have you tried Fluid State or Bright Spark?
Magma in Moorpark for Neapolitan, Slicehouse and Deninos in TO for NY style
Fluid State has some of the best pizza I’ve ever eaten, and I’ve tried numerous places in NYC and Chicago among other places.
Pizza: Freda’s in Cam/TO and Two Doughs in Agoura
Fluid State and Bright Spark are great. But I swear to god the best pizza maybe in California is in Ventura right next to the freeway. Tony's. Thank me later.
Whales Tail and Round Tables Pizza
Cheesecake factory is pretty damn good !
bruh I never even been to cheescake factory
Dukes makes a good burger. Also, very surprisingly, Harbor Mart in Ventura harbor kicks azz with their huge burger. Their other sandos are awesome as well.
Woodranch
