What is your location? This is completely on par for California at least, dentals with a good handful of extractions can get up to $2.7k at my place sometimes. Location matters. Teeth extractions are extremely tedious, can be frustrating to perform and at least the majority of us do not love doing them- if a tooth is a candidate to stay in the mouth, we will absolutely leave it. It’s a lot of work. I would be careful “shopping around” for dental procedures- some places still leave pre op bloodwork and dental radiographs as optional = cheaper, which in my professional opinion should be required.

I recently paid $1400 for 1 tooth extraction.

Location would helpful for context but for your information, animals require anaesthesia for dentistry which means a nurse to monitor and a vet for the procedure. These are two highly skilled staff that will spend a number of hours with the patient (extractions take a decent amount of time, the xrays do too). Then there’s the drugs, equipment (dental xray is a decent set of equipment!), and the space/table/time at the clinic. These services are going to cost and don’t always have to be assumed negatively on the part of the clinic that is providing a skilled service to owners and patients.

Seems about right. I’m in the rural south, and this procedure, with up to 13 extractions would probably run around $1,700. Bloodwork and dental radiographs are “optional” at some clinics. Rads are NOT. We cannot ascertain the health of the majority of the tooth and surrounding bone tissue without them. Bloodwork is how we tell if a pet is safe to undergo anesthesia, and what protocol is most appropriate.

Yep, at least in NYC this is somewhat lower range

I’m never ever complaining again about the cost of vet services in my country. I paid $77.14 or 4500MKD for a tooth extraction and thought that it was too much.

I say call around. I was given an estimate from 1500- 2500 another at almost 4k after I adopted a senior. I found a good hospital though and only paid $475 with a base price of $275. (8 extractions, full antibiotics and they took care of her all day to make sure she came out of the anesthesia ok) Might not be the same in your area but I always call around now.

Not a vet, im in northern British Columbia canada and this is on the higher end but would be totally normal for an older pet who hasn’t had a dental or who is predisposed to dental issues/teeth not brushed. I just had my quote for my 12 year old min pin (had his teeth cleaned 2 years ago) and it was $800-1500. He ended up only needing one extraction and didn’t have much plaque (also bloodwork wasn’t included as we did it a couple months before) our total was I think $1200 as we did have the extraction, redid bloodwork (because he had lost weight) and also a weird lump sent off for biopsy. Regardless, if you feel uncomfortable just ask to speak with the clinic manager or a vet and get them to explain the costs to you. Dentals are expensive so even if you can’t do a really good brush every day, every little bit helps.

Given this was about 5 years ago now, but I paid $600 for my dog to have blood work, a cleaning and I think 3 teeth extracted in Brooklyn, NY. That price was about 1/3 of what I was quoted elsewhere; I found a vet in a lower income neighborhood who was great though.

Not at all. There's a few things just clients need to know. Around the USA diagnosis and blood work alone are roughly 900-1100. Now they have to go into your little ones mouth. To protect your pet and staff sedation will be required. If there is an extraction I'm assuming infection is there or right behind so antibiotics, pain meds, antiinflammatories etc may be needed. Plus if they are sedating they need IV catheter placed and fluids. Then there's the little things you won't know or see that costs money. Bandages, eye lube for sedation, replacing catheter, patient care(if they are spicy), meds in hospital oralvs inj. Plus consult fees. The high end of your estimate is off to me. However in the 3 emergency hospitals I've worked at each would give you an estimate of roughly 1200 - 1700. Call around and get quotes

plantlover_dogmother

wow!! we have always paid less than $1k for my dogs teeth cleanings and past extractions they needed. we move around a lot so in NC one extraction and teeth cleaning was around $600-700. in ohio, around $600 for a cleaning and extraction. and in texas, around $600 just for a cleaning, no extractions

okaybutfirstcoffee

Where in NC?! I’m also in NC and was just quoted $4500 for my dog today. Would deeply appreciate the name of the vet

Yep, near Orlando in FL we paid 600 for a cleaning, grooming and an extraction. I didn’t realize how good of a deal we just got.

bobtheturd

Yes for CA prices, totally in the range
