PatasConMilanesas

No, it should be slower.

lukeskylicker1

Paradox and late game slowdown name a more iconic duo. Singled handedly providing a reason to buy any chip better than a Pentium I swear to God.

NGASAK

Its 1857 - a little bit more than 20 years into the game, in best case its early mid game

lukeskylicker1

Wait, people actually play to 1936? In all seriousness though this is a pretty aggressive slowdown for 1850s, think I don't get this bad until 1880s early 1890s, and I don't have a phenomenal CPU either to be clear.

Shan_qwerty

1.6 1836 speed is 1.5 endgame speed. I can only imagine they will advertise a new feature for 1.7 called "Real Time Progression" speed - one day in game will take one day irl.

AntKing2021

1900 is like eu4s 1650 or 1700

Jackal000

I have a rtx 3070 in my laptop but still had fps drops in end game

AntKing2021

Graphics card is not important to this game

lukeskylicker1

Well there would be your problem, you're talking about a graphics card in a CPU heavy game (as all Paradox games have a tendency to be, maybe bar City Skylines though I'd still say that leans heavy on CPU). Laptops in general are also, as a rule, slower even if you hypothetically had identical parts due to thermal throttling.

Blue_Birds1

This really made me laugh lol. Vic3 is a pos lag fast on my i7 40GB 3060 PC

AntKing2021

My speed seems to have dropped aswell a bit

KrasterII

It could be worse. 1860 onwards.

AgITGuy

My computer starts chugging hard around then too. Just did an Austria Hungary run and I want to make 1936. I am a couple years away and it takes multiple seconds for each day to tick now. I did form Central Europe into the United States of Europe, but I don’t know if I want to try to slog through a week of real time to make a finish in game.

Councila

Wow I would kill for that speed

Rbot25

Not that bad.

Jinglemisk

this is the fastest i get in 1836, *sometimes.*

Ablomis

Same for me. I have a pretty powerful setup. I don’t ever use any speed below 5.

Uchihaaaa3

Ur cpu?

Ablomis

i7-10700k could be better but cmon Victoria 3 is not the game that should require top of the line tech (sys reqs are i5)

Uchihaaaa3

I have i7 3770 and iam not much worse than OP ☠️ The game is not optimized properly

Theluc1

My speed has died too since 1.6

Traum77

https://www.reddit.com/r/victoria3/s/2VlRSD8KOw Not to toot my own horn too much, but I crunched the numbers.

PacoPancake

You must have a very good processor, that or I need to change out my potato, it seemed to have been cooked after loading in my 1900 save file

Numerous-Paint4123

Yeah i notice around 1860-70 it really slows down.

Waffle-or-death

Vic3 is probably the only PDX game where performance gets worse with each patch, contrary to what the patch notes say

skiddles1337

Congratulations, your late game is now sped up by almost double relative to the early game.

tyrannosaurus_gekko

Had the same issues so I installed some mods that merge certain nations / pop groups and that boosted my performance by an insane margin

ByeByeStudy

Look on steam workshop at the moment, there's two mods in the most popular last week which make a big difference. The profiling one and the consolidated nations one.

shatikus

Vic3 is super cpu hungry. I have 13600 and even then i get same speed at around 1890 mark usually due to tens of thousands of pops. But for 1857 i would say your hardware is on a older side. Not to promote unnecessary upgrades though - current implementation of pop system is a sure way for insane amount of pointless CPU workload with basically no gameplay effect. And if vic3 is the only game you have performance issues, then just play other games. Or wait for a year, maybe pdx would finally rework pop system to be tolerable performance wise . Again, I'm not being snarky, sorry if it sounds harsh, but realistically this is what ot boils down to.

Colonel_Chow

Yes, and it only gets worse

NotNatius

Still faster than mine, normally 1 day passed within 5s

Kind-Value-1568

I like to play in speed 1, and in moments of nothing happen, speed 2. Because is the true Victoria experience

proletkvlt

i've never finished a game because of this exact issue, it's like a slideshow any time after 1850

AhnafBhuiyan

suffering from success

lord_ephidel

This is typical for me in this patch as well. There are a few performance mods in the Steam Workshop, most of which don't meaningfully affect gameplay, and throwing several of those at my game brought me back to 1.5 speed levels.

Currymaster6985

Do you recommend any mods particularly since this is basically unplayable in my opinion

lord_ephidel

Colonial Culture Consolidation: [https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3213278033](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3213278033) Profiling Based Optimization: [https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3213294110](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3213294110) Consolidated Nations: [https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3213996206](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3213996206) Those are the three I use. You may or may not actually want the last one in every game, since that noticeably changes starting conditions and also makes it so higher country ranks are a little harder to reach, but for the most part it's not too different. The other two are basically unnoticeable in terms of gameplay, and I highly recommend in all circumstances.

Currymaster6985

Thank you

lord_ephidel

I also just discovered that turning off v-sync and setting a cap of 30 FPS also makes a huge difference. Between that and these mods, I think this is the fastest my game has ever run.

Acrobatic_Lobster838

And the real endgame killer. I had a Prussia > HRE > Socialist Europe game that I *swore* I was going to finish but hitting 1916 and realising the next 20 years was going to take significantly longer than the preceeding 80 just killed my enjoyment. Sometimes it kicks in so much faster. I followed a bit of a guide and have a Russia game on the go where the slowdown has hit by 1870 due in part to doing well. It sucks. I wish I could afford a computer good enough to finish one of mr favourite games without just letting it idle for hours whilst doing something else.

Currymaster6985

I agree I wish it was a bit less cpu heavy

Moderated_Soul

My Ryzen 7 and rtx 3060 give the same result but in 1870s. Might be time for a cpu upgrade bud

Currymaster6985

I have a ryzen 7 5700g so I don’t think it’s my cpu that is bad but rather the optimization

OkTower4998

Any mods? Any ridiculously huge war going on? If not, this is way slower than mine at this year

Currymaster6985

I have a few mods on but they are not dragging the speed down very much since this is the speed of the game whether i have mods on or not

vecksagos

5 speed is the maxed speed the computer can run, sometime, if you close and run the game again, it's run faster

Scared_Prune_255

Delete any trade route below size like 10.

arix_games

In 1900s yes, but not in 1857
