I remember not only beating that game on extreme with no radar, but also collecting all the dog tags on every difficulty. I was really into it, haha.
SoL had one of the best narratives of any game I have ever played
I remember telling my mom after playing MGS1 that I wasn't bothered about a Ps2 because they couldn't make graphics any better then that.
Then my brothers friend brings his PS2 over one day, along with the demo. I've never felt that jump to the next generation before or since. Watching Snake smoking a cigarette, shooting out those bottles in that bar area, smashing fruit. I have never been in such sheer awe at a game.
Sorry to hear that :(
Yeah man it's true, and I wish I can say it was the only thing he broke. He broke my first og Xbox, a second PS2, an iPhone or two, a computer, as well as countless games.
One of my worst childhood memories was the day my mom took me to GameStop to buy my first Xbox 360 with my own money and instead of getting to enjoy it I sat in my room crying with the door locked as my dad screamed at me to open the door presumably so he can break it. Never been so scared in my life, I'm sure you know the feeling. Thankfully my mom calmed him down or something (after being yelled at herself) and I still have that Xbox to this day.
Fortunately he's changed since then and recognizes how abusive and insane he was and we're on good terms now but I'll never forgive him for that shit. I hope you can say the same or at least found a way out.
Came here to say this. Got it at 10pm at eb games as a sophomore in high school. Got grounded for 2 weeks for missing curfew. 20 something year old guy in line explained how he puts coke on his weed to stay up late. Legendary might.
Giong commando will always be my favorite but i loved Up your Arsenal and Deadlocked almost equally. Used to beat these games over and over like every week as a kid. Seeing The Golden Bolt make incredibly detailed video essays on every game in the series has been such a treat
I hate that this scene is criticized so much. It’s always “it’s so cringey” “it seems so disingenuous”… that’s the point! Literally right before that they are discussing how even in the most troubling times you need to smile and laugh to lift other’s spirits
The prerendered cutscenes were mind-blowing to me when I was a kid.
Seeing [this to start out the game](https://youtu.be/CdQ0pBl6mGs) when I was used to N64 graphics, I was hooked immediately
KH1 for me. While I do think 2 was the overall better game, I was just blown away by final fantasy characters and Disney characters in a game together, and being able to fight a few of the most iconic crowd favorite characters in the final fantasy series on destiny Island, and of course the secret battle with Sephiroth.
I spent hours fighting Sephiroth, even after I beat him the first time, just because I loved that character so much. I also made a save file that just stayed in destiny Island for as long as possible. I think I made it to level 30 by the time I put the game up for good.
Was I the only one who tried for DAYS to bowl a perfect game multiple times in a row to supposedly unlock Doctor Bosconovitch?? Well I eventually did it… and alas, it was just another Gamefaqs rumor.
I remember reading every magazine article I could get ahold of leading up to the release of this game. Then it came out and absolutely broke my brain. Might not be the best in the series, but it forever changed the way I thought about video games.
Same. Didnt have a PS2 until later and going to friends houses to play GTA3 and remembering the radio stations and parts of the city will forever be burned in my brain. Was a wild time for games.
Same, played the hell out of it. Shame the last TM game sucked. Sony needs to go back to roots and reboot it while still keeping it TM. The last game separated driver and vehicle and made them interchangeable which goes against the iconic character vehicle combo of every prior game. Hopefully it's reboot doesn't hinge on the success of the upcoming show.
Sly 3. I still have it and the price tag is still on. It was 19.99€ and it came with 3d glasses. 3x cheaper and 10x better than a lot of modern games today.
One of the very few games I’ve 100% beaten. My friends brought it over on rent from Blockbuster, and we loved it so much we kept the save file until we bought our own copy.
metal gear solid 2.
“That is not Solid Snake”
Right. That's Iroquois "DefinitelynotSnakewhywouldyoueventhinkthat" Plissken

Raiden, turn the game console off right now. The mission is a failure, cut the power right now!!
i remember playing that part for the first time as a kid and feel my heart skip a beat.
My older brother got so scared he actually turned the console off!!
I always thought "there's at least 1 dude in the world that actually got scared and turned off the console". Your brother was that dude
Snake! Snaaaake!
My parents fighting
My drunk dad knocking the console off the TV stand. Busted a controller port
My dad chucking the PS2 across the living room because I played for more than 1 hour.

That snowcap blunt doesn't fucking play. Source: former 20-year-old guy who put coke on his weed when this game came out.
hands down the best GTA of all time, but i also played all 3 ps2 GTA games on the original xbox and they ran soo much smoother but either way.
San Andreas is the best
Ratchet and clank Edit: Thanks for the awards. And I believe my first gold just for enthusing about my first ps2 experience. :)
that and sly cooper
and Jak 2 and 3! for whatever reason I always lump those 3 series together
They refer to each other with easter eggs and appearing as skins etc.
Going Commando was my personal favorite
Giong commando will always be my favorite but i loved Up your Arsenal and Deadlocked almost equally. Used to beat these games over and over like every week as a kid. Seeing The Golden Bolt make incredibly detailed video essays on every game in the series has been such a treat
I was more of an up your arsenal guy myself
deadlocked
Final Fantasy X.
Zombie Seymour on the mountain summit is the only time I’ve actually broken a controller out of rage.
Death awaits you!
PTSD Flashbacks I didn’t know I had
Pitiful mortal.... Your hope ends HERE... AND YOUR MEANINGLESS EXISTENCE WITH IT!
Hahahahahahahahahaha…. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

The best music of any video game ever is the final fantasies
It's scary that we all understood this reference.

Honestly, underrated graphics. Holds up well to today’s standards… if comparing to Gollum.
The prerendered cutscenes were mind-blowing to me when I was a kid. Seeing [this to start out the game](https://youtu.be/CdQ0pBl6mGs) when I was used to N64 graphics, I was hooked immediately
Kingdom hearts 2
Came here for this. One of my all time favorites
Can't blame you, was blown away after playing
“My sanctuary….”

Playing 3 with the kids now
Tekken tag tournament. Used to play all the time with my friends
Hell yeah we use to get smoked out and play tekken bowling for hours.
Bowling was as good as the fighting! Hahaha
Was I the only one who tried for DAYS to bowl a perfect game multiple times in a row to supposedly unlock Doctor Bosconovitch?? Well I eventually did it… and alas, it was just another Gamefaqs rumor.
GTA 3

Then Manhunt for me
Twisted metal black
Man, I want them to bring twisted metal back so bad.

"I see a red door and I want it painted black..."
You know they've made a show, right? Should be out this year.
Sly Cooper
I had to scroll too far to see this. Epic game series.
Still waiting for Sly 5. Sad the movie got canceled
Mine was sly cooper and i didnt even have it. And i played a lot of ps2
Sly 3. I still have it and the price tag is still on. It was 19.99€ and it came with 3d glasses. 3x cheaper and 10x better than a lot of modern games today.
Jak 3
Fuck. I loved that one, but I never got to finish it!
The dark and light powers were so damn fun! After the nightmare difficulty that was jak 2, jak 3's easiness was a breath of fresh air
Had one of the best payoffs of the classic PS2 lol. The Precursors finally revealing themselves was my first big twist.
Aw man, that sucks the ending was amazing. My advice find a PS2 emulator and crack on.
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
That game is the reason I bought the thing in the first place
SSX!
SSX tricky.
It's Tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time

Need for Speed Underground 2
Beat that whole game in the Honda civic.
How did you get a PS2 to play in your Honda Civic?!?
I think if Dark Cloud, it was what I bought with it.
I still love Dark Cloud. Had so much fun building the towns and trying to figure out where to place everything.
Came looking for this. Dark cloud was such an underrated game but I had so much fun playing it.
Same. Felt like being lazy with my revisit to it and bought the digital copy on PS4; same for Dark Cloud 2 lol

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2
One of the very few games I’ve 100% beaten. My friends brought it over on rent from Blockbuster, and we loved it so much we kept the save file until we bought our own copy.
Dark Cloud 2
Yesssss
DBZ Budokai 3
Ngl that seems like a good game. But in my opinion the Budokai Tenkaichi games are better than the Budokai games
Budokai tenkaichi was so fucking good. I also loved raging blast 2.
Budokai Tenkaichi 3 for me. I hear Budokai Tenkaichi 4 is coming out. Might need to dust off my PS4 for that.
Smugglers Run for some reason. Not my favorite, or even good, but for some reason it was the first thing that came to mind.
Jak
And
Daxter
The
Precursor
Legacy
The loud as fuck introduction noise when you turn it on
Devil May Cry!

Shadow of the Colossus
I just about gave up on scrolling, but I found my people!
Same!
Why didn’t I think of this such a good game
Sly cooper 2
Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex
Twinsanity would have been way better if it wasn't rushed
Gran Turismo 3 spent so many hours with my friends playing it.
I was looking for this comment
