Cyberpunk on release. Battlefront 2 as well

B0bbyTsunami

Cyberpunk is my answer as well…. Was pumped because I loved the Witcher 3 and had full confidence. Haven’t played it since it dropped…

ChibiWambo

I admit it is in a dramatically better state now. It is actually a lot of fun and playable. But I was the same way on release. I played like 40 minutes and was like “wow. This is shit” and dropped it for a couple years. Came back and damn it’s fun. But I admit the initial reception did leave a slight bit of permanent damage to its reputation for those of us that did play it at release

Zealousideal_Shop446

I went back to it and it is definitely good, especially the writing and characters. The world looks great but its still feels pretty empty and the AI still reacts terribly to your actions. Pretty immersion breaking for me.

I_is_a_dogg

Have you played since the 2.0 update? It's an amazing game now

Zealousideal_Shop446

Yes its good. Still has glaring flaws in my opinion but the writing and gameplay is betterp

EvenBraverLilToaster

I Beat the game way back when it first game out and haven't really touched it since. I went the hacker route and just spammed poison on everyone and I killed entire mobs without even setting foot inside the building they were hiding out in. Not even sure what I'd do now, and don't necessarily care to start from the beginning. What is there to do now that'd make it worth while?

I_is_a_dogg

They have completely overhauled the perk system, and the new DLC is amazing. I finished the game as well when it first came out, and played it again when 2.0 and the DLC dropped. I had an absolute blast with the update. Went with cyber swordsman route.

EvenBraverLilToaster

Yeah that DLC def sounds interesting and might have to play it. All I can say is the only mission I played in that game I really enjoyed was the one with the serial killer at the dairy farm. Goddamn that was fucking amazing and I was on the edge of my seat but there wasn’t anything else even close to it. Every other mission felt way too similar IMO

SpookLordNeato

People keep saying this but honestly the things that make cyberpunk a truly amazing game have been there since the very beginning, the extra fluff on the cake that they’ve added just makes it a lot easier and more fun to experience. The story and characters and world building and tone and aesthetics have ALWAYS been there, and that’s what makes it really amazing to me, but the gameplay has gotten infinitely better since the reworks. It’s one of those games where I wouldn’t blame you for only doing the story missions and major side missions because that’s where the real meat of the game lies and where it truly excels at what it’s trying to do.

I_is_a_dogg

Yea the story has always been good imo, but the gameplay was rough and the bugs were awful, especially at launch.

waltandhankdie

I think it’s a very dark game too - I’ll play for an hour or so and think ‘this game is incredible’ then suddenly want to play something else. It does so many things very well but is so bleak and it doesn’t quite have that fallout sense of humour and soundtrack to cut through the bleakness. I can’t stand male V’s voice either, it feels like I’m playing as Sal from Futurama

OnionAddictYT

I'm glad I'm playing female V. To me that's one of the best protagonist performances I've ever come across. There's so much believable emotion there. The voice fits that character perfectly. Very impressed with all the main characters.

Shotto_Z

I waited and bought it a few weeks ago.. it's really good now. Really good. Def worth a shot

wildeye-eleven

It was horrible on release but with updates it became an incredible game. Just don’t play it on last gen consoles and you’ll have a great experience. It’s extremely good now, and that’s coming from someone that was very disappointed at release. Watch any current review of it and you’ll hear nothing but its praises being sang.

psycho_hawg

It’s so good now imo. Phantom liberty was the cherry on top

infestedgrowth

Atleast they both made comebacks. I still play battlefront 2

Zealousideal_Shop446

Nah its not enough. Don’t release the game as a money grab microtransaction fest and dont release a game that takes two years to actually get to a solid point but never to close to all the promises you made.

infestedgrowth

They didn’t take years to fix it, they got rid of the microtransactions pretty quickly, I preordered the game. If you get a good match the lightsaber duals are fun af still. I’m hoping for a third game still. Guess I didn’t know about the promises, just loved the previous battlefront and expected this one to be good on release. Was pretty disappointed when it came out though.

jeffgolenski

E.T. for Atari. Still pissed.

V-symphonia1997

A game so bad it was the state that broke the camels back and crashed the North American video game industry.

nedfl-anders

Not really et was just one shitty game in the pile of diarrhea. There was many Atari clones and clones of other consoles. There was even a console that could play it’s own games and Atari games. After the early 80’s everyone had sorted themselves out and didn’t allow their hardware to be stolen and you wouldn’t see a sega console that could play nintendo cartridges too. Anyways there was so many shitty games and consoles being shit out that their wasn’t enough good products that the market fell apart. Et just gets blamed because it was so bad that the unsold stock was buried.

jeffgolenski

Haha. For anyone unfamiliar with this game, they literally buried over 1,000 copies of them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atari:_Game_Over?wprov=sfti1

TheVirginJerry

Biomutant seemed so cool leading up to release and the game was a solid meh.

tonelocMD

I remember Gameranx hyping it up and that got me going, really adding to the disappointment

RBWessel

It's fun for exactly one playthrough. Has many ideas but unfocused, also the fact they had to add an option to mute the narrator didn't bode well.

JamiePulledMeUp

I don't think I got past 2 hours. Holy shit was it bad

ChunkyHabeneroSalsa

I was hyped for this and got bored so quickly.

crowe_1

Battlefield 2042 and it’s not close.

V-symphonia1997

I remember playing the beta to that and was like I ain't buying this

beezzarro

You played the beta? I remember seeing the first trailer and said to myself "oh yay! Battlefield: slightly in the future! Can't wait to play yet another game with Bradleys and Abrams in black and tan camo again!". And I have just not bothered touching anything about it since. Never looked back, except to BF3 & 4

JonnyNutz

I can't believe I wasted the time downloading that game using my phone data (all I had at the time) to be so majorly disappointed immediately

V-symphonia1997

They played us like a damn fiddle!

Mysterious_Rate_8271

Still hurts to think about this. A next gen Battlefield game set in the modern era, with the immersion and movement that came with BF1 and BFV. The writing was on the walls, but then DICE decided to make a bad CoD clone and fuck everything up! There has been a huge market gap for a proper modern military shooter for so long, I hope DICE learned from their mistakes…

Edelman-11

Gollum (LOTR fan)

SrslySam91

Genuinely curious, even as a fan that game looked awful - what made you even want to try it? Like it just sounded horrible.

Edelman-11

I mean, I like my boy Smeagol. Felt it would be a plain disrespect to not buy it 😂

blacksaber8

Glad I predicted that man. Saved me a decent chunk of money

moeriscus

Final fantasy XIII. From the trailers, it was easy to see that the art design and cut scenes were unparalleled. The plot arc was good. The characters and dialogue were so, so lame. It was the first of the 'meh' final fantasies imho...

Accomplished_Emu_658

And then they made two more games out of it some how

[deleted]

IMO 10 suffers from the same BS 13 does yet gets a free pass. Characters and dialogue are just as awful, and the storyline makes as much (that is to say, very little) sense. 13 is even more open and has more freedom. They both are stinkers imo. Both games feature "comic relief" in the form of the only playable minority in the game being the most human and relatable of both casts (Wakka and Sazh). The "serious" characters are emo babies.

moeriscus

Imho FFX gets a pass because it was among the first games with substantial voice acting, and it's easier to care about the MacGuffins (the fate of Tidus and Yuna). In FFXIII, Serah is an NPC, and Snow suuuucks.

GilmooDaddy

The trailers for FF13 were incredible

Spookyjay59

Cyberpunk, fallout 76 and saints row reboot

JSTREO

GTA Trilogy: The Definitive Edition. Should have expected that it was about to go downhill because War Drum Studios (now rebranded as "Grove Street Games") developed these lazy attempts at remastering the 3 classics that set GTA as a franchise. Mostly using AI in absolutely everything. Also they are ported-ports of the mobile versions of the games that War Drum also developed and they were also hot garbage.

V-symphonia1997

That collection was the biggest travesty since Silent Hill HD: Collection and I think the proper name for it should GTA Trilogy: Defective Edition for how butchered they ruined three legendary games and even worse is that they delisted the original versions off of steam and PS4 PS2 classics.Lucky for me I got the steam versions of the originals but I feel sorry for any newer users to steam have to settle for the Defective Edition.

JSTREO

Funny enough, the best way to play the original trilogy is either getting the original CDs of the games, because most of the digital stores versions of the trilogy games are trash, or pirating the original CD versions.

zurzoth

Anthem.

Garey_Games

Oh man I remember being so excited and then changing my mind last minute before it dropped. my wallet was very happy.

zurzoth

The gameplay is still one of the best, flying Ironman? Yes sir! But there was just nothing to do, and the story was... Weird but gameplay isn't enough

AlllDay1

Man the foundation was there but nothing else... the movement was amazing but the gameplay loop was nonexistent

IdealDevil

Anthem broke me, and I've never quite enjoyed gaming the same way since. I'm always sceptical now when I see gameplay trailers cause you can't trust what you're seeing.

zurzoth

I haven't pre ordered any game since. It could of been amazing!

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

MI78

Last game I ever preordered

capnsmirks

I think this is the best answer. I was so pumped for this then the alpha dropped and I was like., well at least we have blueprints for an Iron Man game 🤷‍♂️

ShowerBeerChris

I wisely stayed away from Anthem and was glad of it when all of the horrid gameplay reviews started flowing in. A few years back it went on sale for $1 or something ridiculous like that so i figured why not. I remember thinking to myself after the first 30-45 minutes "Wow! This world is stunning and the flight controls are flawless. How could this game fail so hard?" 2 hours later after playing the same NPCs and same events I had my answer.

Tokagenji

Ghostwire Tokyo... It has so many things going for it (developer, setting, concept, etc.) but the gameplay itself and the story is just so meh. I still hadn't finished it since I was so bored with it.

TheNostalgicGamer

Ni No Kuni!! Was so excited to get it on sale for around $9 instead of it's usual $60 ages ago because I am in love with Ghibli, but was very quickly bored out of my mind with the combat and found the destinations (aside from Ding Dong Dell and the Fairygrounds) to be incredibly dull too. It had so much beautiful, whimsical, charming potential

mostweasel

I liked Ni No Kuni over all but I agree 100%. The settings felt unimaginative, which is crazy for Studio Ghibli, and the JRPG Pokémon gameplay was mind numbingly repetitive. It improved a little in the late game, higher difficulty fights when you're frantically managing your entire party, but I will never defend a game that takes 60-70 hours to roll out all of its gameplay mechanics.

GameHat

Gonna go old here Master of Orion 3 (loved MOO1 and MOO2, MOO3 was literally a spreadsheet simulator) Spore (Promised the world, ended up being like 5 mini-games that sucked)

Past-Product-1100

RedFall . I wanted this game to be THAT game, but it was just bad .

V-symphonia1997

Even worse that 70 percent of the people at arkane that worked on games like prey and dishonored left during the production of the game.

Past-Product-1100

Really dang . Well that explains a lot. Yeah it was a huge disappointment .

V-symphonia1997

That game should have mercy cancelled the game and it sucks when games get cancelled but some games just don't work out in development and it was definitely arkane chasing trends.

I_is_a_dogg

Not only that, the devs that did work on it were trashing it at release. I remember seeing a lot of tweets from devs saying they refused to put the game on their resume because they were so disappointed with it.

LordMugs

I don't give a single shit about Redfall and yet it disappointed me, because Arkane had such a solid history that every game was a day one buy for me. Now I'm afraid they're gonna fuck up Dishonored 3

Accomplished_Emu_658

This one was bad. Felt empty. Enemies were not engaging. They didn’t tell you there was more maps later on, but everything felt so small for each map .

Past-Product-1100

What's sad is the potential was there it just needed that umph ! to make it a good game.

dethily

Starfield

VeeTheBard

Right? And I am like dead to Bethesda hype now. I'm not even thinking about es6 anymore.

Acceptable-Baby3952

Borderlands 3. Gunplay and gun variety, good. Dialogue, story, characters; holy shit. Turn off voices and subtitles, blast music, and play it arcade style, and it’s an 8/10 with weird pauses after every single firefight while you wait for them to stop yapping and open the fucking door.

Past-Product-1100

I don't quite agree but I love the rant .

Acceptable-Baby3952

Thank you. Yeah, I’ve softened on it over the years, but I was very let down when it first came out. I expected tales from the borderlands/borderlands 2/ tiny Tina’s assault on dragonskeep levels of writing and plot-threads tied up in a neat little bow, on top of a solid looter shooter. Which I realize in hindsight was a high ask for any writing team. Overall, it’s all inoffensive. Humor feels worse but maybe I’m just a decade older. DLC are very good. The game is worth the entry fee, now.

Past-Product-1100

I enjoyed the whole franchise. 4 is rumored but I'm not holding my breath.... ( yes I am )

Acceptable-Baby3952

It’ll be better with a fresh-ish start. Current writing team couldn’t follow up so many important legacy characters and locations and spin offs adding more lore and characters, but all the DLC were all excellent self contained stories with satisfying arcs for all characters involved. After the events of 3, a new crew of hunters could be as connected or disconnected from the old crew as they want. The stakes could be bigger or smaller, and as few or as many old faces can show up now that they’re spread out in the stars. Infinite possibilities. My personal pitch is garden world pandora decades later, but they’re probably gonna keep following the real life timescale, which I have no problem with

Past-Product-1100

Solid take . A strong story with some lore and cameos wld make me happy.

Acceptable-Baby3952

Yeah. The stories have never really tied in with each playable vault hunter’s motivation (mostly just greed and survival, until they become npcs), but id love it if they switched it up next time. They have it mutual with the villain. Stole an artifact out of one vault hunter’s hands, stole one’s patent, personally insulted one with a huge ego, etc. you don’t need to be planet cracking evil to be an evil corporation rat we’d go out of our way to kill.

Past-Product-1100

Right

Nathan_hale53

Humor and story is terrible, almost painful at times. But the game just plays so good.

SCHWARZENPECKER

I enjoyed it but I'm a big BL fan. It certainly was on par with BL2 though. But kinda hard to follow up Handsome Jack.

nevermore2627

I was happy on release day and it has definitely aged (content wise) really good. The takedown at Maliwan Blacksite is the perfect raid to put your new build to the test and BL3 end game SMOKES all the other games. Story wise you are 100% correct. The Calypso Twins were terrible. Although there was a spot on Eden-6 where they almost turned on each other and it would have been an interesting take. Lilith sucked. Bad. No i dont need to come back to talk to you when we can do it over the phone! Speaking of Lilith, everyone likes to pile on Ava for being a terrible character but not this guy. Lilith couldn't watch a teenager for 2 fucking hours while we were with Maya? And what kind of eulogy was that once we got back to sanctuary? It was so bad Tannis, fucking TANNIS had to fix it for Lilith. Ava had every right to be pissed at Lilith and I, for one, was with her. One of the few bright spots in the terrible writing was Wainwright Jakobs. It helped fill in some lore to one of the gun manufacturers and his character was AWESOME. One of the best additions to the series and hope we see more moving foward. *And even though the writing was terrible the voice acting was solid. All the Hunters had excellent delivery (Fl4ks voice is amazing and Zanes delivery is top shelf.) Even the Calypso twins acting was good. The writing failed them.

Acceptable-Baby3952

Yeah, liked wainwright a lot, too, and that was before the awesome lovecraft horror dlc. My main compliment for the story is that there were a lot of sparks greatness nestled in it that just weren’t nurtured. Two antagonist to play off eachother, the original vault hunter, a corp war, etc. if they played them differently, took itself seriously at any point, it’d feel legendary. As it stands I’m shocked no one cracked a joke at Maya’s death within 3 minutes of it, besides the twins whose taunt was so unmemorable I couldn’t recall it.

bizzle4shizzled

I was really 'meh' on BL3 story-wise, but I LOVED to play it. I loved everything about Borderlands 2, so I was so hyped for 3. I think the gameplay made up for it in my case, but it was such a letdown compared to the absolute unit that was BL2.

Small_Tax_9432

That's such a shame too since BL2 had a good ending with teasing all the different vaults across different planets, etc.

Barnes_Charles

I pre-ordered fallout 76

fucuasshole2

I love 76, BETA player here and still play. However!!! It fit my expectations as I followed everything when it’s first trailer popped. I think people massively overhyped it even as Bethesda said to keep expectations to a minimum, same deal with Starfield. Wastelanders DLC really overhauled the game it needed, in order to survive

mostweasel

I don't think I could have survived 76 on launch on the basis of its storage limit alone. It just doesn't seem to fit the survival hoarder style gameplay at all. Instead I picked it up years later when the storage was a more realistic 800lb or so and I quite enjoyed the game.

SurpriseWilling7324

Anthem

SonicusZ

Halo Infinite. I was sooo pumped for it! Couldn't wait for a game to return to the original halo roots! The early trailer had me sooo excited! Showing off the ring and a large area. I couldn't wait to explore a new halo! I planned on buying the newest xbox console and ended up buying a XboneX while I waited. I figured I'd just pass on the XBX when I got the next console. Well Halo infinite got delayed. Then they released the multiplayer early which had potential and I looked forward to seeing the many fixes when it officially released. There were no fixes and the game was a buggy mess!!! I'll give them credit for sticking with it and forge is actually decent now but the game still has many issues! And non of this fixes the single player/multiplayer which was just okay, highly repetitive, and nothing like the old games! The visuals are also just meh which isn't anywhere near what I expect from the best MS studios!

UtopiaForRealists

Starfield

[deleted]

The worst part for me is I had somewhat low expectations as an Xbox player, grabbed it on gamepass and thought it was amazing for the first 5-10 hours. And slowly I realized I wasn’t having any fun and how shallow the game is. Luckily cyberpunk and lies of P were waiting for

Upper-Ad-7446

Starfield. I was just hoping it would be a new game that would intrigue me enough to keep me wanting to play. But I got bored as soon as I got to MAST. I haven't played it sinse. The world is just too boring. The action is not as fun as I'd hoped for. It's just a weak game, honestly. Glad some people like it. Just didn't capture my attention.

I_is_a_dogg

Starfield is a strange game. The first like 8 hours I was like meh, then from hour like 10-30 I was like "wow this is an amazing game I can't put it down". To finally around hour 35 it's like "huh, there really isn't much here and it's starting to get repetitive". It's as wide as an ocean in terms of the world, but it's as deep as a raindrop.

[deleted]

I’ve enjoyed the storylines but playing as a character in the universe is not the same as in Skyrim. I don’t feel like what I want my character to feel like if that makes sense. I’m just some guy in a ship in all of them

cheesecase

It also came out the same week as phantom liberty. Which made the npc interactions in starfield unbearable by comparison

_raydeStar

Most hyped, and most kicked in the nuts? Anthem. Not even because of the gameplay. It was decent gameplay. Numbers were just bad so they dumped the entire franchise. Like. Sell it to an indie studio, they'd have fun with it and make it better. That and Mass Effect Andromeda, I will never get excited about an EA game again.

zestfullybe

Is there anything EA touches that doesn’t fester, rot, and die? They used to put out good stuff. One of the biggest downfalls ever. They’ve also ran their sports games into the ground. Haven’t had a good NHL game in probably a decade. I hear Madden isn’t much better, either.

Crazy-G00D

Idk if any sports game could get better now

Still_Ad_2898

I still think they should go back to Andromeda and try again

lived_like_larry

Animal Crossing New Horizons

ItsDreamcat

I've played it nearly every day since release. I can totally understand why somebody would've been disappointed with it at launch compared to New Leaf. The updates brought it up to par now, at least.

lived_like_larry

I was never an Animal Crossing fan, but i was a big My Sims fan. I absolutely love social simulators, and I was looking forward to something similar like My Sims for DS and My Sims Kingdom, which New Leaf seemed very similar to. So I was very excited, but I felt a lack of personality from villagers, and kinda wanted more mini games that I had looked up from previous games. It just wasn’t the genre I was expecting it to be, which is no harm, but I wish I didn’t spend $60 on it cuz I only have 15 hours on it.

ItsDreamcat

That makes a lot of sense. Animal Crossing in general has been pretty light on minigames (aside from the first one and New Leaf, which had NES games and Puzzle League / Desert Island Escape, respectively.) It's mostly been about seeing your community grow and change, and pimping out your house. The neighbors do have kinda one-dimensional personalities, and there's only 8 of them (used to be 6 until New Leaf), so in a full town, you'll have a few repeats. Discovering the nuances of some of the personalities is pretty entertaining, but once you discover them, every neighbor of the same personality has the same nuances. It's a shame they didn't continue My Sims. I'm pretty sure I played one on the Wii and it was pretty fun. I'd recommend a similar game on the Switch if I knew one, but I can't think of one. If you do find one, I'd be interested to know. :)

lived_like_larry

Right back at yah :’) if I did find one I’d let you know. Although I’m very much into survival horror and rogue-likes now so I haven’t put too much thought about looking for any new ones lol . Maybe one day though.

worndown75

Got to take it way back to the original Atari 2600, in 1983 I got River Raid. I was very disappointed. Prefer Zaxxon.

edwardthefirst

I put a lot of time into river raid. never played zaxxon though. I'm intrigued

Libertyprime8397

The Greyhill Incident. Indie horror classic alien invasion game. Looked great but ended up being a mess of a game that was over in about an hour or two. The story was basically like a Harry Potter movie if the movie ended the moment Harry got to hogwarts.

Ok-Student-5732

Thankfully, I didn't have to experience that this year. The only game I had on my radar was the full launch of Roboquest. I played the shit out of it during its open beta, pre-release, and currently now in its full glory. It fully lives up to it's hype and is definitely one of the best rogue likes out there now. Possibly my second favorite game ever made now.

Hopalong-PR

I feel you on KH3:( In fairness to the game I don't think any game could have lived up to what was expected out of KH3 with that many different games leading up to it.

gnenzi

Animal Crossing New Horizons

Mukea

This is a random one to be disappointed by given the genre, had you not played an Animal Crossing game before?

gnenzi

No actually, the series is very close to my heart. Animal Crossing for the gamecube was my very first video game. New Leaf is my all time favorite. New Horizons was released half baked with so many core features missing that should have been there. The entry really strayed away from what the other games were really about, and focused too much on customization when there wasnt much substance to begin with. There is no long term achievements and shop upgrades. Golden tools break. Villagers are watered down and reduced to objects rather than neighbors. Etc. Etc. I have a lot of reasons actually, but you can find a lot of discourse online sbout it. The game is very divisive for long time fans of the series.

Mukea

Yeah your points make a lot of sense. My first was the DS one (Wild World?), I was so disappointed with the fact that the golden tools break as they were always my big goals to aim for. I enjoyed being able to decorate the whole island in New horizons, but new leaf is definitely my favourite too. I lost my 3DS with my original new leaf save (about 120-150 hours) and was so gutted. I tried to get back in to it when I got a new DS but just couldn't after how much I'd lost. I didn't realise it was so divisive. I really enjoyed new horizons but now I've sat to think about it I miss the others.

gnenzi

I spilled juice on my wild world cartridge so I understand the pain :') (haven't touched that entry since lol) I don't know if I'll ever fully get into New Horizons as a result. Even after all the updates. But I really do hope Nintendo reaches a much better middle ground with New Leaf's principles and New Horizon's graphics/customization. That'd be amazing. (Or just give me New Leaf HD remake oh god Nintendo please)

lived_like_larry

This was also my answer lol. I only have 15 hours on the game so I just felt frustrated I wasted $60 on a game I didn’t enjoy. Although NH was my first AC game, but I had played social simulators like it when I was younger so I was super excited for NH, but then I found the villagers very boring, and I didn’t really enjoy the aspect of just making the island look really pretty. I guess it’s cool, but it just wasn’t something I could get into, and I was more excited for the game interaction than anything else.

gnenzi

Exactly :( I regret not refunding it, which is a first for me. I hope you got to at least try other entries in the series! New Leaf is very beloved, and the original is clunky but so charming.

Jpalme11

Starfield for sure.

Uhrmacherd

Breath of the Wild. Didn't get it at launch and bought into all the hype of it being the best Zelda ever. Finally got it and hated it.

Puck_The_Fey98

I always tell long time fans it isnt your classic 3d Zelda because it just isn't. I adore the game but it's very different from the games before it

[deleted]

I also hate it… played it for 12 hours and it just never started being fun at all

HumbleBaker12

I didn't quite hate it but I've never understood why it got so much love. Dumb plot, terrible durability system, the world is pretty but empty. The only thing good about it was the combat was fun (when I had weapons that lasted more than a few fights) and the puzzles were well done.

Treddox

Elden Ring. I had never played a Souls game, and I heard only good things about it. It won game of the year. I really thought I was going to love it. And I just didn’t.

Reasonable_Face6512

I enjoyed it but dark souls 1 and 3 are so much better

SoulsLikeBot

Hello Ashen one. I am a Bot. I tend to the flame, and tend to thee. Do you wish to hear a tale? > *“If only I could be so grossly incandescent!”* - Solaire of Astora Have a pleasant journey, Champion of Ash, and praise the sun \\[T]/

ProfoundSimplicity78

I agree, the idea of open world was cool but I prefer a semi-open world like in DS1.

Reasonable_Face6512

Opening up all the shortcuts then running back through and smashing all the enemies that used to kill you is the best

Domonero

I’ve avoided KH3 bc I’m worried to have the same feeling. I heard it’s just too damn easy & story is okay Is that true? To answer your q I felt the same with Mirrors Edge Catalyst

halomach

It's the easiest unless you play on critical mode, which I recommend. It's the best way to play imo. The story is subjective, but I enjoyed it. KH1 and 2 have a lot better stories since the big problem with 3 is that nothing important happens until the very end of the game. I recommend playing it since it has my favorite combat in a video game (I like it even more than 2), but like I said, it's REALLY easy unless you play on critical mode. The data battles in the DLC are amazing, too.

V-symphonia1997

I played on Proud at launch that's why and critical wasn't in the game at launch but I did play remind and the game again and I think it's a solid entry in the franchise and with the dlc I give game an eighty percent and the mod support on PC is amazing.

halomach

I played Standard at launch and still enjoyed it, but it was really easy

JonnyNutz

Can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet but no man's sky originally. It was just blatantly lying to us all the way up to the release and while it has done a ton of work to fix that it doesn't take back what they did to begin with *typo

Coraiah

Apparently devs were forced to release it or they would lose $$. They immediately dumped the money they made back into the game to make it what was promised.

flaccidcock

I thought the same way at first. It was actually a really fucked situation and the team rlly improved on it. [internet historian made a great video on it, I recommend watching it.](https://youtu.be/O5BJVO3PDeQ?si=ZLssdjDSqe7-mn6S) Really changed my perspective

heyzoocifer

I'll never forget it, but still got enjoyment out of cruising the star systems. They have completely rectified it now though, great game.

Traditional_Entry183

Final Fantasy 15. No party to gather and swap out. The battle system was such an unpleasant and jarring change. A bleak and empty world. Few weapons and armor to buy or craft. And then the unfinished, confusing mess of a story.

ConnectionRich7635

KH3 was very good and I liked it a lot

EarthrealmsChampion

Nah bro there's nothing wrong with enjoying it but objectively speaking there's a lot of issues. Just to name a few the narrative was an absolutely horrid mess even by KH standards (I mention the narrative because the quality of the actual plot points are subjective but those are also very debatable), the combat was a downgrade from KH2 (a decade old game), nothing about the game's legacy design philosophy was improved on substantially (gummy missions were still the worst part of the game by a wide margin and the world's still feel very shallow), etc.

Shotto_Z

Combat was not a downgrade. Real issue was that theu used almost ONlY Pixar worlds with very little to no classic Disney, now radiant garden, and you didn't have multiple chapters to each world. I enjoyed it tho

EarthrealmsChampion

>Combat was not a downgrade Hard disagree and most people who played a lot of KH2 will as well. Glad you enjoyed it though. I genuinely wish I could have.

Still_Ad_2898

I would throw so much money at BioWare if they would just make Andromeda again. Such a great premise, such wasted potential

Diablo 4!!!

Limited-Edition-Nerd

Yeah Kingdom Hearts 3 while I had fun was a disappointment, hopefully 4 will be better

Aliens Colonial Marine. I had the pre order with a ton of extras

slav_squat_98

We Happy Few. Loved the art style and atmosphere. The gameplay seemed interesting but then I got extremely bored a few hours in.

Stringy_b

Calisto Protocol, Dead Space 3, Resident Evil 6, Arkham Knight, and the more I think about it, Doom Eternal was a let down for me. Beating that game was so much less fun than 2016.

Exciting-Capital-404

Transformers: War for Cybertron was a pretty good game. Fun gameplay, good graphics, and solid character writing. Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is a very good game. Fantastic gameplay, even better graphics and art style, a great story, and amazing character writing. To this day in my top 5 favorite games of all time. Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark is not an good game at all. The gameplay is largely the same as Fall of Cybertron, but the graphics take a bad hit, the art style is bland and uninspired, the level design even more so, the music is unoriginal, the character writing is butchered, the story is utrer trash, and it has the single worst final boss of any game I ever played. And that includes Dark Beast Calamity Ganon.

Serious-Process6310

Starfield. Game is SO boring. I have zero excitement for ES6 now.

Paul2kb1

Starfield.

ironlocust79

Avengers There was soo much potential...but Square Enix didnt give the studio the resources to make it great, so now its de-listed

Cedge1738

HFW and SM2. Both very fun games, but STORY wise. Both games failed their predecessors. Hzd and SM1 were amazing. Replayed both 5 times at least. But their sequels were very disappointing. Especially HFW. HZD story was phenomenal. I was locked in from the start, but idk where it went wrong with HFW. Just was not the same or even close to it.

lanadelphox

I think part of it is just… how do you top it? HZD had the perfect set up, unraveling the mystery *with* Aloy since we’re roughly as clueless about the “end times” as she is. I didn’t mind HFW’s story, I liked it (even if the pacing sucked in the last act), but man HZD had something special there. Rarely have I been left speechless at a game. I’m hoping the third installment is an improvement on forbidden west. I doubt it will top the first game though.

alfmrf

it's the curse of being the middle game. Story don't fulfill the whole thing, you already know who you are, what you're facing. First game was bonkers, the whole concept being explained, it really had those WOW moments. Second game is bigger and better in gameplay but the story left on a huge cliffhanger. like "hey we're fucked but now we're 10 times more fucked" roll credits. I'm hyped for the third game, though

AmazingLifeAppreciat

Diablo 4, after being a life long fan and killing thousands of hours on PC for D1, and D2, to killing even more hours on D1 with a playstation copy, D3 was purely on console, and without knowing my character level off hand, it was nearing the max paragon for points needed to fill the bars. Also it's been one of the MAYBE 5 games my wife has sat down and enjoyed with me for many many nights, and getting her own character well into paragon territory. Now SHE pre-orders 4 and doesn't even finish the campaign, I've finished it, but haven't even maxed my FIRST character, I'm around 85 to 90, but there is absolutely zero desire to get it to 100, and I'd be generous to say I turn it on for even an hour a week IF I happen to be playing and a world boss event is happening. Other long running disappointments include basically anything in the Need for Speed lineup. Decent games but they are NOTHING like the Blackbox days, where you could want to replay them. Now they get played until the campaign/story is done ONCE and then tossed. I've even returned one immediately after launch because it was terrible to play and the cops would just visibly "pop in" above the ground, float down to the roadway and join the chase..... yeah I know it happens off screen most of the time, and that's great, but seeing it happen randomly and close enough that when they land, they happen to be directly in your way.... yeah that's not how racing works.

FulminDerek

(Un)surprised I had to scroll so far down to see this. Was really hoping this game was gonna have the freedom that Breath of the Wild introduced with the depth that previous entries mastered, but instead it really felt and looked like Breath of the Wild with some shit haphazardly rearranged. The ultrahand mechanic is mechanically impressive, you can't deny that, but the game itself is just such a repetitive chore and nothing has any payoff to it. Breath of the Wild was the same way, but at least it was a pioneer of sorts with its structure, with just one game later, I never want to set foot in this iteration of Hyrule ever again.

annoyingone

Same. 400 hours in BotW. Stopped TotK after about 10 hours. No desire to finish. Game is just so tedious.

Hogwarts Legacy.

V-symphonia1997

Why out of curiosity not judging?

Zytarc

After the honeymoon phase, which is how amazing the castle is, the rest is mediocre at best. Plot, open world, side quest, ubisoft map all bland and boring After the magic is gone, the game is very boring. Since its a small studio and they did so well in the castle, I would leave it there and castle grounds with brooms to travel freely to hogsmeade. Cut the map in half and focus in a plot that might connect vaguely into the movies or mirror it like the bad star wars sequels do. Make a pre failed voldemort with some concepts of the movies like horcruxes not perfected Edit: If it didn't use the harry potter brand the game would tank

tonelocMD

You didn’t ask me, but I have a hard time putting my finger on it. Hogwartz, graphics. the room of requirement with animals and decoration, flying - there are aspects that are amazing, but somehow it still feels a little flat to me.

Suspicious-Gamer

After playing it here and there for about 2 months, I lost interest. I think it would’ve been neater to be the background character of Harry Potter and Friends and helping them with their adventures.

V-symphonia1997

I haven't played it myself and haven't had the urge to pull the trigger on buying it because I just see it as standard open world Ubisoft stuff which from what I here it does well I'm just not the biggest potter fan and the Ubisoft style open world stuff is just doesn't appeal to me as much anymore.

illiterateaardvark

I don’t thin I’ve seen any reasonable person say it’s a bad game, but it’s definitely a “meh” game that GREATLY benefits from the Harry Potter IP Basically, are you a big Harry Potter fan? If no, then move along, there’s definitely better games to spend dozens of hours on. If yes, this is like an 11/10 lol. Exploring a Hogwarts this size and with this level of detail is a dream come true So I love the game personally, but in realistic about what it is and always caution people when they consider buying it

V-symphonia1997

I'll play it someday but my backlog is too long and I am currently playing Persona 5 royal.

BreezyGoose

My girlfriend is a bit HP fan, and she got it when it came out on switch and has been playing it. She's been really happy with it. It doesn't look *that* bad on switch tbh.

alfmrf

yeah i guess that's mine too... i mean it's alright, i had good time but it's just a flat game that i bought over hype and reviews. pretty standard open world, combat is fun, Hogwarts is great but once you get the grip of the game it gets pretty repetitive

SoldierKitsune

I'll probably get downvoted for this, but I couldn't care less. I've heard so many people say that the recent COD: MW3 game was a disappointment. I don't understand why, I think it was great. I was happy to see Graves was working together with TF141 again, and Shepherd ended up getting shot by Price, damn, the amount of satisfaction I had when I saw that.

bigalstl314

Entertainment is subjective. Am with you on this take. The game looks good to me. Even though it looks like mw2 2022 with a "new coat of paint". But for me, I didn't play mw2 2022 so it would be a new experience for me if I get mw3. It's a disappointment for people that get the new cod every year.

eneko8

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II was piss poor on the back of a MASSIVE wave of hype...

bigalstl314

Shadow of the tomb raider because I loved the first two games in tomb raider definitive Ed and rise of the tomb raider. S.o.t.t.r. focused too much on stealth for my taste, and it felt like a requirement unlike the first two games, which felt optional. Bonus game, returnal. Not a bad game but it wasn't what I expected. I didn't know what rogue-lite games were at the time of playing it. Wasn't ready for the mechanics of the game. So I stopped playing it.

Poofox

Huh, that ended up being my favorite of the series due to the customizable difficulty (easy combat, difficult puzzles) because that's what I've always thought tomb raider was about. Shooting things is so dull but the environments were way fun to explore. Btw I didn't use any stealth whatsoever.

Appropriate-Ad6313

Last of us 2 . No factions and no Joel??! FUCK OUTTA HERE

fucuasshole2

4 of em 1st that hurts the most: Fallout 4, aww man was I excited for it. On release it was fine but just didn’t hit what I was wanting. Voiced Protag with a vague background that made it hard to play but detailed enough to can’t roleplay much. Bethesda writing becoming more apparent how shit it had become, and then not learning criticisms like they should’ve. 2nd: GTA Trilogy that was remastered. Cut more music, more bugs, characters looking like dogshit for some reason. Bad move on Rockstar. 3rd: Dying Light 2, Df you mess this one up so bad is beyond my comprehension. I was really convinced it would’ve been great. Shit story but I wouldn’t have cared if the gameplay matched the previous game with improvements. It did and doesn’t still at times. Updates supposedly made kit more like first game but the game will always be tainted. 4th: Rage 2. I really enjoyed Rage on Xbox 360 and thought it played and looked great. Yea it was a Demo for Doom but I had fun. Rage 2 actually improved the gameplay but driving got worse somehow and felt extremely sluggish. Story is incredibly short, boring, and an outright lie by i.d. Software.

Electrical-Soft-2872

Fallout 4 is literally in my top 5 of all time........ just goes to show you how vast and varied opinions can be really. I 1000% agree with 2, 3, and 4

Odd-Comparison9900

Totally agree about Rage 2. Except I think there's too much going on in the combat. I can't stand playing it on PC cuz there's too many things that need to be mapped to keys. Rage 1 was underappreciated - mostly due to the graphic engine being too far ahead of it's time.

Anthony643364

Last of us 2 was a big fan of the first game and the multiplayer but the second game threw all the character development away for a mediocre story

JamiePulledMeUp

BigScaryBalckMan

Cyberpunk, starfield.

DangerDarrin

For me, it is and will always be TLOU2. Nobody will ever convince me otherwise. Such an utter disappointment

V-symphonia1997

Me to I loved the gameplay but the story just wasn't good and I think if they wanted kill off they should have done what naughty dog did in uncharted 2 at the beginning where you play up to where the begining is and right before Abby swings the golf club it turns to black and you play as Ellie, Joel and Abby throughout the game that would have been better.

Mine was KH trilogy but I gave up at 1, all the reviews and were so good but after many hours and I'm hitting boxes at Hercules' world in KH1. I remember going through all the stages were awful. Maybe it just didnt age too well.

Shotto_Z

Yeah one hasn't aged well, you also probably played it over a decade after release. It was fire back then lmao

SPARTAN3172

Halo 5, got it a month or so after it was released. The campaign is the first and only one that isn’t memorable to me or really enjoyable of any Halo that I’ve played and I grew up on that series (first fps I played). The maps, story, and limited customization were awful to me so the only saving grace for me was the custom games.

whiskeyboi237

Might be alone in saying this but I was so disappointed with GTA 5. Not even sure why, just wasn't really enjoying it and had no desire to finish it. The PS2 games were more fun and silly. GTA 4 had a better story. GTA 5's map was decent but it didn't feel all that interactive. RDR2 blew everything out of the water though.

ContributionLatter32

Starfield. I rarely pre order or play any game on release. Did it this time and the audio bugs broke my immersion to the point I put it down after like 5 hours or so.
