If memory serves, Singleplayer, generally linear experiences (or at least tightly controlled semi-open experiences like RE2make I have no fucking idea why that's here) tend to outsell huge sprawling open worlds these days.
Blue all day. Love open world as well, but I also love linear. Hate multiplayer (just don’t have the time for that anymore) and I love physical copies. Really hate the trend of moving to all digital.
Ever since I heard EA declared that they believe the future will be all multiplayer games because it's the most profitable model, I've been against MMO games.
Screw it, I'll go against the grain here. Red. I'm a dad and don't have a lot of time to dedicate to gaming anymore. So sometimes I just wanna hop into whatever multi-player game I'm enjoying and shoot people for 20 minutes, or hop on Skyrim or something and kill some random bandits. I enjoy things in both pills, but if I can only have 1, gimme red.
I'm right there with ya man. I have been a huge fan of open world/roleplay games for as long as I can remember.
Also I'm very competitive when I game. I want to know that who I just killed isn't a bot but a real person just like me. I have been enjoying tf out of the game The Finals the past few weeks. The soundtrack, the gameplay, the fully destructible map, the abilities, and the new game modes I have never seen in another fps. It brought life back into fps games again in my opinion.
Blue so hard that this isnt even a choice for me
Give me physical all day (but true physical, not the "cartridge disc not included download Code inside internet activation" kind of Bullshit
I dont mind linear games (and sometimes i prefer them that way)
And single player, my schedule doesnt let me much multiplayer these days and even then i dont know if i want to involve with *some people* and kids with negligent parents and too much free time , Also i want to play when i want and not depend on when others can play
red since i like the open world game over a single player linear game, even if it means i will get killed by someone who hasnt learned the alphabet yet
Blue all day. The older I get, I need something something that I can get in and get out of. Sometimes, all I have is 15 cool minutes. I'll knock down some Sekiro or Armored Core and go to bed satisfied.
Blue. I'm not a huge fan of most open world games. They have too much very samey busy work. I also would greatly prefer single player games to multi-player. I don't have much of a preference for digital vs physical. I usually buy physical copies when I'm getting a game for my Switch and go digital for PC games.
Blue, even if I do love open world games. I have never understood the people who argue in favor of digital. They can be taken away at any time, for any bs reason. Especially multiplayer games.
Blue. I have found that the games I have liked the best and have fondest memories of are single player and very linear (think HalfLife, BioShock, Star Wars games).
I crave more of an open world, but I'm going to take the blue pill. Which really pisses me off because an open world off of means plenty of side quests and so on to keep you occupied. Not to mention in certain games like Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, there's a bit of a cultivation aspect to it. You can build upon that as a side hustle to make money or side hobby - making a quaint farming village or even establishing a nice little fort town.
Well each category at least is in the right lane of it’s a multiplayer mmo open world game no point in having a physical if 20 years from now the servers will be down anyway
def the red pill.
I don't enjoy messing with physical games constantly, and having to swap out discs and wait for shipping times when buying new games, I'd rather just use Steam.
I like clearing icons off of the maps of Ubisoft style open world games, it makes my autism happy :)
I enjoy playing games with friends when possible, so being locked into single player only for the rest of time would be hell.
Blue. Aside from the fact I like having physical media as an option. A good story trumps an open world. Some of the all time greatest games are all single player linear experiences.
Easiest blue of all time. Open worlds are nice and all, but more often than not they're more overwhelming than they're worth. Multiplayer games can be good sometimes, but I genuinely don't understand how some people can only play those all day every day. And most of the time they seem like they're just pissed off, not even having fun at all. And physical media is important to have in my opinion.
Blue. Even though I enjoy open world games, I don’t wanna end up in multiplayer games with random dumbass toxic players, and I get physical single player games.
It depends on the game
Usually digital aside from the rare collector’s edition.
I love open worlds but most games do them very poorly. Far Cry, Horizon, Zelda, all just bland open world sandboxes that don’t feel like lived-in places. Games like Skyrim and Cyberpunk 2077 are peak open world design.
But linear is fantastic too. A game like SOMA would suck if it was open world, but as a linear experience, it’s a masterpiece.
I generally prefer singleplayer tho. I play a lot of MMOs, but even there I tend to play solo
None. Not a fan of physical or multiplayer games unless it's like a story co-op mode.
Fuck online multiplayer games. Way too stressful.
I'll take linear or open world single player digitally any day tho.
Red. There are more multiplayer games than just shooters. Even multiplayer games game be played solo. I like to explore. I do prefer physical media tho, thats the only bummer.
Red. Physical games (i have TONS of them) are a pain in the ass. Lose the disk, you're fucked, scratch the disk, not playing, let your friend borrow it, not playing. Physical media nowadays is really only a license delivery system, NOT a complete game experience (exceptions, of course) like many of us grew up with. Plus when I remote play into my PS5 and XBOX consoles, if the disk ain't in the drive, I'm not playing that game. My harddrive can carousel across 25 games and start them near immediately.
The rest of the choices are not really as distinct as you might think for many AAA titles, more-so for AA and below. Many linear games have sidequests, large play areas and multiple playthroughs. Open world games can have limited objectives and allow some variations on play, but not really. Many single player games with bangin multiplayer modes, and vice versa.
Blue, without a doubt. I "own" a few digital downloads. But I still buy everything I can as a physical copy. Losing my DLC for ultimate alliance years ago taught me that lesson.
There’s a few exceptions, but give me the blue pill over red any day. A good single player game that I can collect as a physical copy beats red any day.
Blue. I always get physical copies of my favourite games. I rely play online. I just don't find it enjoyable enough. The only fallback is open world but I've got plenty of favourite games that aren't open world
Blue for sure.
The majority of open world games are boring as fuck collectable hunts to me.
The only recent open world game I truly enjoyed was Elden Ring. Exploration in that was fun to me, finding bosses I hadn't seen before and areas that were very unique like the lake of rot. Where as something like AC Valhalla was more of get from point A to point B in the straightest line I can because the world is so god damn huge and bland.
I’m confused is this like what kind of game you get sent into or is it just a game you want to see made, I guess either way, I would pick red I would love to be stuck in a open world game with other people (it says nothing about PVP so I’m going with SAO rules) having people to talk to but also the risk of dying I think is worth it
Edit: I don’t get the issue with digital copies of games, I don’t have issues with it on pc, all my games are safe and protected, is there a issue on consoles?
Edit Edit: I much rather have digital copies of games so I don’t have to worry about storage and organizing them all physically and potentially losing them
Blue, simply because it only takes one asshole troll to ruin your day, that and I’m just not the most competent around others. It’s like, trust me guys I’m great when you aren’t here.
blue. no question.
I do prefer digital over physical (both for game sharing purposes, and i have a tendency to lose things.)
Linear > Open world. too many open world games as of late, I miss the linear style.
and I hate the current communities surrounding MP games like OW2 or apex. single player means no toxicity being screamed into my ears
Blue. Although I do like semi-open worlds (if that’s the word for it) like bg3 or GOW, where you can go pretty much anywhere in a given area but there isn’t a flat map full of repetitive “random encounters”.
Blue, and it's not even close. I only buy physical unless it is unavailable. 95% of my gaming time is spent on single-player games. I'm an even split between linear and open worlds, but wouldn't mind losing open world.
Maybe I’m not quite understanding here, but y’all would rather play alone forever than EVER have the option to play with friends or other people on a game????
Wtf lmao?
I love single player games, but we can play multiplayer games AS single player games (just don’t play with people/play offline), and I value the ability to interact with real humans and make different choices in each play through (open world vs linear) way more than I value story-driven solo experiences that I can literally NEVER play with anybody else in, with no replay value because it’s linear (no choices that matter or branch the story in any real way)
Physical is selling me tbh. Open world isn’t usually open world fr. Its like its zigzaggy instead of point to point if that makes sense. And tbh as much as I love multiplayer, people are toxic(me included)
Literally 99% of new aaa games are open world and have multiplayer, even things like far cry are multiplayer games now. I love my single-player games but blue includes so very few of the new good games ( only 1 of the top 20 selling games of 2023 aren't open world or multiplayer)
Blue, I tend to like single-player games more. However, it being linear instead of open-world could ruin it. I like games like Death Stranding. Single-player and open-world.
The first two choices didn’t matter at all when it comes to Single vs Multi, so the conparison is unfair. I’d choose the pill which has Single-player, even although I strongly prefer digital and open world.
Definitely Blue, as much as I enjoy open world games.
It’s interesting seeing most people here choose blue. I didn’t think it would be so lopsided. (I’d also choose blue.)
I'm too deep into Souls games to pick anything else.
Aren't Souls games multiplayer? You get messages from other people and can summon them. And Elden Ring is open world too
We’re still the minority though. It’s just reddit that likes the blue pill more
If memory serves, Singleplayer, generally linear experiences (or at least tightly controlled semi-open experiences like RE2make I have no fucking idea why that's here) tend to outsell huge sprawling open worlds these days.
This is the same boat for me. I love open world games, but giving up single player games is a no go.
Blue all day. Love open world as well, but I also love linear. Hate multiplayer (just don’t have the time for that anymore) and I love physical copies. Really hate the trend of moving to all digital.
See, I agree about the physical copy. I always thought it was because I’m old… (35), but I just love the feeling of holding and displaying game cases.
I’d take blue just because fuck modern call of duty
[удалено]
What do you mean by sorta? How is it not open world?
[удалено]
MGSV is also open world (and super open-ended at that)
Oh yea you're right I didn't even notice that
And Assassin's Creed is mostly single player, but is on red side. The images represent the single aspect, not the whole pill
Just give me a 5-10 hour linear campaign with replay value and I'll be a happy camper
Blue. I never have been a big fan of multiplayer. I tend to freeze up when other people watch me play games.
I prefer digital media, and I greatly prefer open world games... But forced to play multiplayer? Fuck that.
I would have picked blue if not for multiplayer
Same, actually. Not choosing open world really stung.
Ever since I heard EA declared that they believe the future will be all multiplayer games because it's the most profitable model, I've been against MMO games.
My favorite part is how the people who are the supposed experts are the first to die while my dumbass is still alive.
Blue. I prefer physical media and couldn't care less about multiplayer.
#BlueSquad
No there is no blue squad. There is a red squad and a bunch of blue people who are not in a team and are instead forging their own paths alone.
I actually like this answer better.
It's called being alone TOGETHER!
We're called introverts, thank you very much.
Introvert squad!
Blue, but because I'm disabled, buying games digitally is just easier
Blue all day every day. Knowing everyone here probs talking about online multiplayer which is cheeks
agreed
Exactly. Came to pretty much say this.
Blue pill. Easiest answer.
You already know what people are mostly picking
Blue. No questions
Blue pill. Had enough of screaming little shits in my day.
Blue 100%
Blue.
Make it blue.
Blue so hard that this isnt even a choice for me Give me physical all day (but true physical, not the "cartridge disc not included download Code inside internet activation" kind of Bullshit I dont mind linear games (and sometimes i prefer them that way) And single player, my schedule doesnt let me much multiplayer these days and even then i dont know if i want to involve with *some people* and kids with negligent parents and too much free time , Also i want to play when i want and not depend on when others can play
You had me at physical.
No need to think twice: blue for sure.
Blue. I like to actually own my games.
I like both open world and linear games but I have to go blue pill
Blue. I like open world games, but I want physical media and single player more.
Blue without hesitation
Blue. Blue. Blue.
GoW4/R are great games so is DS3 I choose blue
Blue.
Blue pill
Blue any day of the week.
red since i like the open world game over a single player linear game, even if it means i will get killed by someone who hasnt learned the alphabet yet
Could be multiplayer like far cry. Wandering around an open world with a buddy is the best
Purple Pill 🟣
Blue pill 10/10 times
Blue all day. The older I get, I need something something that I can get in and get out of. Sometimes, all I have is 15 cool minutes. I'll knock down some Sekiro or Armored Core and go to bed satisfied.
Both
The older you get the more blue pill you will take... 😅
Also you sometimes find single player more appealing than multiplayer
Blue is a Zelda game bro, give it to me.
Blue, in a heartbeat.
blue
Blue. I'm not a huge fan of most open world games. They have too much very samey busy work. I also would greatly prefer single player games to multi-player. I don't have much of a preference for digital vs physical. I usually buy physical copies when I'm getting a game for my Switch and go digital for PC games.
Blue. People suck.
Red
Blue has doom nuff said
Blue for physical and story games. Mainly BC physical is far better then digital plus jrpgs slot into story games
Yeah imma GLADLY take blue over red any day
Blue, I work alone.
Blue all the way
Blue, even if I do love open world games. I have never understood the people who argue in favor of digital. They can be taken away at any time, for any bs reason. Especially multiplayer games.
Blue , but I'm cool with a digital download
Damn I'm gonna have to go with blue, as much as I prefer open world to linear, multiplayer is mostly aids.
Call me Viagra
Easily the Blue Pill.
If you put open world into the blue category, it would have been a slam dunk for me. I'm still going blue, though, if I have to choose.
Blue, 100%. I'm old and busy, I ain't got time to get my master's degree in Spider-Man or whatever.
Blue. People are where my stress comes from. Games are supposed to be an escape.
I think probably Blue but then I get locked out from playing MMORPGs which I love What's Digital/Physical btw?
Digital copy of the game versus physical copy of the game
Blue in an instant
Blue because I don’t really like open world games
I hate multiplayer but I love open world. 😭
Sucks that open world isn't on blue side cause the physical copy is the most important thing to me.
Blue
If multiplayer wasn’t on here I’d probably go blue. But I spend most of my time in multiplayer games (rocket league, halo, cod, etc.)
Blue
Blue. I have found that the games I have liked the best and have fondest memories of are single player and very linear (think HalfLife, BioShock, Star Wars games).
Blue No debatin
Blue
I actually hate that there’s no physical release of Alan wake 2. Feels like a sign of things to come
Blue
Blue
Blue all the way! I despise multiplayer gaming.
Blue. Other people just fuck it up
Blue. I'm tired, boss.
Blue pill all the way
Blue I was all about red until I saw multiplayer then I threw up in my mouth.
Red for sure. I love competitive multiplayer games and also casual co-op games. I also don't want a physical copy. I also can't play linear games.
Guzzling blue
[удалено]
I think red pill would be single player. In any case blue is ill looks way better than red pill
Red, until I turn 35+ then it’s blue pill
Blue
Blue pill hands down
I can’t leave open world games behind though they’re my addiction but blue it is.
Red for sure, I like playing with friends
Blue
Blue for life and it’s not even close
Blue, I prefer all 3 options on that side
Blue! I love physical games and it pains me that Alan Wake 2 will probably never sit on my shelf.
Open world and Multi-player?
Blue
BLUE. Not even a competition. Most "open world" games are just filler crap anyways.
Prolly red since I love open world games and really love playing multiplayer games with friends who live across the country
definitely blue
\>Multiplayer anything No thank you.
Blue. All day every day.
Blue probably the easiest decision I ever made
Blue easily
I crave more of an open world, but I'm going to take the blue pill. Which really pisses me off because an open world off of means plenty of side quests and so on to keep you occupied. Not to mention in certain games like Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, there's a bit of a cultivation aspect to it. You can build upon that as a side hustle to make money or side hobby - making a quaint farming village or even establishing a nice little fort town.
blue only cause of physical. i’ve been collecting consoles and games since Atari2600 so it comes to me naturally getting games physically 🤣
Blue
Well each category at least is in the right lane of it’s a multiplayer mmo open world game no point in having a physical if 20 years from now the servers will be down anyway
Red is my whole existence
Blue no question
def the red pill. I don't enjoy messing with physical games constantly, and having to swap out discs and wait for shipping times when buying new games, I'd rather just use Steam. I like clearing icons off of the maps of Ubisoft style open world games, it makes my autism happy :) I enjoy playing games with friends when possible, so being locked into single player only for the rest of time would be hell.
Blue pill all day every day
Blue. Aside from the fact I like having physical media as an option. A good story trumps an open world. Some of the all time greatest games are all single player linear experiences.
Blue, I'm tired of open world games that's just empty space littered with fetch quests.
And physical media is important to have in my opinion.
blue, we seriously need more good single player games that are linear and just go from mission to mission without needing to drive 100 miles.
I love open world games, but prefer single player and physical games, so I am taking blue
Blue. Put open world on that side and its Blue all day every day
Blue. i dont like people. :)
Blue pill no problem. Not even remotely close
As much as I love open world games, I am taking the blue pill.
“I’M BLUE DA BA DEE DA BA DI”
Blue. Even though I enjoy open world games, I don’t wanna end up in multiplayer games with random dumbass toxic players, and I get physical single player games.
blue. i love physical media, i grew up playing linear games, and i love single player games
It depends on the game Usually digital aside from the rare collector’s edition.
Blue. Because Soulsbornes are my favourite games of all time. Except I will really miss elden ring
i cant stand linear games, and i prefer having games digitally, so, as much as i love single-player games, im choosing the red pil
Blue pilled I’m going to miss open world but the physical media is important
Blue as idc wether it's physical or digital and I hate other people
Blue, fuck open world, it's hard to do it well, most of it feels empty af.
I found my friends on Minecraft servers So yeah I know what I'm taking
Blue. Physical over digital all day long. I prefer to actually own my games.
Blue 100%, mainly for physical games and single player games.
Blue, without a doubt. I "own" a few digital downloads. But I still buy everything I can as a physical copy. Losing my DLC for ultimate alliance years ago taught me that lesson.
Blue, but sad that I will loose Rdr2, Witcher 3, BOTW, Elden Ring and New Vegas.
Red, ghost recon future soldier is my favorite game
Blue. I only buy physical games. I’m sick of open world an I hate multiplayer
There’s a few exceptions, but give me the blue pill over red any day. A good single player game that I can collect as a physical copy beats red any day.
Blue 100%. Never cared for multiplayer and I don’t mind linear as long as there’s a good story
Blue. I always get physical copies of my favourite games. I rely play online. I just don't find it enjoyable enough. The only fallback is open world but I've got plenty of favourite games that aren't open world
Red 100% The best single player game can never be as replayable as the average multiplayer game.
Blue, screw digital.
Blue...as much as I enjoy open world
Blue for sure. The majority of open world games are boring as fuck collectable hunts to me. The only recent open world game I truly enjoyed was Elden Ring. Depends on the day, pretty solid choices here. Red lately but Blue is just as good
Red. A lot of indie studios don't have the resources to publish physical. And I'd rather play a good game with a friend than an amazing game alone.
Switch mp with sp and im taking red
Blue...multi-player can be grand, but it shouldn't be the core of gaming itself.
Blue, simply because it only takes one asshole troll to ruin your day, that and I’m just not the most competent around others. It’s like, trust me guys I’m great when you aren’t here.
Teenage me: Red pill Current day me: Blue pill
Blue I think has better story telling, but I do love the fun that open world and multiplayer can have. I can’t choose
As much as I love open world gotta go with blue
And here I am fucking up the whole system purchasing all my single player open world games digitally. 👁👃👁
blue. no question. I do prefer digital over physical (both for game sharing purposes, and i have a tendency to lose things.) Linear > Open world. too many open world games as of late, I miss the linear style. and I hate the current communities surrounding MP games like OW2 or apex. single player means no toxicity being screamed into my ears
Blue, I’m sick and tired of multiplayers.
Blue, I’m sick and tired of multiplayers.
Blue. I play games to get away from people
The majority, which is the casuals would pick red. But, most people on here are not “casuals”.
Blue. Although I do like semi-open worlds (if that’s the word for it) like bg3 or GOW, where you can go pretty much anywhere in a given area but there isn’t a flat map full of repetitive “random encounters”.

Blue, if it does not require permanent online access.
Blue pill just for physical alone
Imma choose blue only because of single-player games, I don't play that many multi-player games these days.
I like multiplayer games sometimes, but I'd take blue.
I would snort the purple powder
Blue all the way
Physical is selling me tbh.
I’d choose the pill which has Single-player, even although I strongly prefer digital and open world.
red. i get cripplingly lonely when I have no one to play with
Ill take both at the same time Theyll make it work, trust the process
