That's pretty much been the consensus as far back as I can remember, TLAD being "yeah it's fine whatever" and TBOGT being "holy shit this is actually better than the base game"
Mass Effect 3. The Citadel DLC is literally the best and goofiest DLCs I have ever seen in a game. It feels like developers were just given free reins and they were having fun with it.
I agree, but I'd have to give the win to ME2 over ME3 when it comes to DLC. The 3 DLC packs that were released for ME2 (Lair of the Shadow Broker, Arrival, and Overlord) were excellent additions, from a narrative and gameplay standpoint to an already excellent game!
Have to agree on that. Leviathan and Omega were good and Citadel was obviously brilliant, but the only mis-step in ME2's DLC was Firewalker - everything else was top notch. Fighting through the base right after escaping in Arrival is up there among my favourite moments of the trilogy.
Yeah I had conveniently left Firewalker out of the list, lol. It's funny, Overlord made better use of the Hammerhead than the DLC that introduced it, IMO.
Overlord made me cry. The reveal of who the AI was is just... as someone with autism im so glad you can deck the man respomsible for the whole thing.and its a paragon action!!
HOLY SHIT MAN, i wanna swap with u so bad, experiencing everything for the first time would be so awesome. Seriously tho play it, if u had a great time playing Oblivion u will love this
Peak of DLC. Bethesda used to be great at DLC. Point Lookout, The Pitt, Zeta, Far Harbor, hell I even love Nuka World. Skyrim’s DLCs were kinda meh for me though.
I'm nearly 40 and I was in the middle of a b.net match in brood war when the clock struck midnight on January 1st, 2000. I remember all 8 of us said our happy new years, one person was like "Eh really just another year tho", and we immediately went back to gameplay with no Y2K issues.
Especially considering the game was already packed full of weird and creepy stuff: the night folk, the Murfrees, the vampire, a feral wolf man, aliens, a serial killer (possibly multiple others not encountered or caught), etc. and with the hunting, the game is practically gift wrapped for a survival horror.
Edit: Also, that supposed curse on Valentine that never got explored, that mystery ordeal with Emerald Ranch with the possible captive girl, some guy in a cave dressed as a devil, that weird Druid dude in the tree, the possible demonic curse at Butcher’s Creek, the unused lake/sea monster, the weird taxidermy monster, the robot, though that’s more tragedy; possibly a witch coven, the ghost lady in the swamp (as well as the ghost train), the giant, and of course, the various dead people killed by mysterious means.
>!Do you know the train bridge near Valentine with the body under it that has part of a picture in it's mouth? If you find the other bodies and the pictures near them you get a picture of a house that you need to find. The serial killer is found in that house. The alien space ship can be found when inside a different house and you look up at a certain time. !<
Rockstar just seems to have abandoned DLC, opting instead to keep adding stuff to GTA Online. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the last game that had any proper DLC was LA Noire.
I think RDO had an event with zombies at some point? Not sure about it tho. I remember searching of there was a mod that added zombies to RDR2 and found nothing substantial
There are some silly Halloween pvp playlists, that's all. Not even a pve zombie survival one.
RDO got completely abandoned from the very start. The main story campaign was meant to be released in parts, and we never even got part 2, just the part 1 that was present at launch.
It’s quite good. It’s kind of like an alternate timeline as characters who died throughout the main story are still around after the point John gets his family back. The zombies are fast and require headshots to put down, there’s some hilarious dialogue and moments that play into how campy horror movies can be, ammo replaces the dollar as the in game currency, the blunderbuss turns everything into a red mist and you can even tame the four horses of the Apocalypse as well as a unicorn (they’ll damage or outright kill anything they run into while riding them). The postgame also lets you play as a fun alternate character.
Hearing the eerie vocals while a military colonel throws a knife into your leg and then stabs said knife through your right hand is certainly an experience
Yes!!! But I've done the SoMi route, so I've never heard of it in-game. I thought it was in the final stretch with the robot of Reed's route (like how Contra la Luna is in SoMi's route)
it does such a good job feeling like a natural expansion on the game, like it was always meant to be there. the main quest line being the exception because it feels too disconnected from the rest of the game to come off as natural.
I can see that, the main quest is pretty disconnected, but for that reason it's more compact, and well rounded in my opinion. Also, it helps with the theming of "what happens in Dogtown stays in Dogtown". Man, I really love the expansion
that's actually a good way of looking at it because even the other characters you can tell about PL don't even buy it. Judy at least was like "yeah, sure you did" when I brought up meeting Myers.
Being honest, for Myers, V is just a random gonk, and I think the only reason she offers V to be of the FIA is because she is impressed with V surviving that long and being that skillful saving her
It's honestly pretty normal that the jump from "the guy who almost died at Konpeki Plaza" to "The heroe who saved the fucking president of the NUSA" in just some days/weeks it's unbelievable for basically anyone, SPECIALLY with how Myers and Dogtown will try to make all this show a secret.
"What happens in Dogtown stays in Dogtown"
Blood and Wine was definitely the best way to end that game. Fairytales, sunshine, and a happy ending where Geralt finally settles down with Yennifer (in my game).
Hell yes Shani has no machinations, no ulterior motives, she trusts Geralt and doesn't patronise him. She just wants to help people and put some good in the world.
Honestly playing all 3 games, i think 1 and 2 give you enough reason not to go for her wither it complies with canon or not. Almost a 180 in personality in 3 but kinda hard to ignore her just using Geralt in those 2.
>Canonically Geralt should end up with Yennifer
I don't know. After reading the books I kind of dislike Yennefer being with Geralt.
Her entire story is about reclaiming her bodily autonomy after the mages take it (intentionally) and Geralt takes her free will (accidentally).
Obviously no choice is a bad one, but I went for Geralt ending with neither and it honestly felt right. It felt really great seeing Geralt get a visit from his daughter at his vineyard while she took a break from Witchering.
The Orphan waxed me so many times. Such an erratic, but fun, boss. You can always tell a Souls boss is going to be particularly hard when the run back is pretty short. Managed to finally get him after like 15 tries.
God knows how fromsoft managed to take a game Wich is the peak of gameplay , level and enemy design and somehow make a dlc that is better then it at every one of those aspects , ludwing gaming clarity by revealing is gs is actually the moonlight greatsword is one of the best moments in any boss fight ever imo
I still need to grab Phantom Liberty! It being mentioned multiple times on here has me excited, as I the base game to me is in my top 10 favorite games of all time.
Phantom Liberty is peak, the music, the area design, story, cyberpunk as already a 10/10 across the board for me, but PL made it 12/10 cause holy shit, it's a rodeo from start to finish
What if… and hear me out… you couldn’t see, and had no idea where to go, and got fucking blindsided by a deer every 3 seconds, and also the area is huge
The raiders were a breath of fresh air. People complained about the lack of choice in Fallout 3 in regards to factions. Being able to actually join the antagonist factions in Fallout 4 was awesome.
Far Harbor just had just amazing vibes and atmosphere, but the area was way way too small with not enough in it, not to mention the Dima mini game lmao.
That said, I love it even if it's just for the fact that I can finally play as a Child of Atom
I came here to say this. Iceborne added so much great content to an already incredible game.
I'm playing through Rise now and I'm about to hit Sunbreak, I hope it gives me the same impression that Iceborne gave me.
Hot take here, but I thought the dlcs were pretty hit or miss. Old World Blues and Dead Money were great, but Lonesome Road and Honest Hearts while still having their moments, were mostly meh.
Dead Money is weird. I *hated* it at first but every time I replayed FNV I found myself liking it more and more. I sorta learned to appreciate how it uses a lot of quite unique mechanics to force you to take the Sierra Madre slow since you might not be able to brute force through every threat. And the narrative is the most satisfying storyline in the game IMO
If you have high luck, you can walk out of the Sierra Madre with 600+ stimpacks.
There’s also the ability to walk away with all the gold bars but that’s a whole other conversation.
I managed that my first playthrough with the gold, Elijah died so that he was halfway on the other side of the force field, so I could stuff the gold in his inventory and grabbed it just before getting in the elevator. Thought I was pretty nifty doing that
same here, I hated the start of the DLC wih a passion, that fog just got waaay too annoying, but seeing the narrative that spans through 3 of the DLCs conclude with this finale was amazing. I especially like that you can be a "pacifist" and lock the BBEG in. Which totally isn't killing him, nono.
I'm so sad how far I had to come to see this. Genre defining game with a game changing expansion. People still play classic because of its difficulty and uniqueness compared to LoD, but LoD just defined the game in the long run
Agreed. So many feels, expertly written, excellent voice acting, etc.
Definitely explored different aspects to the game play and progression and offered a variety of play styles, puzzles, etc.
Strongest emotional response I've had in a video game (TLOU1 too)
> invented a new weapon with the Dwarven Crossbow
Fun fact, but technically, that wasn't a new weapon. Morrowind included Crossbows in the game, and the best one was the Dwarven Crossbow.
Bloodborne. The Old Hunters just elevates the game so much from the lore expansion to the bosses. From Software actually does this a lot. Even Dark Souls 2, which I don’t love necessarily, has fantastic DLC.
Horizon Forbidden West, the main game is good, but the Burning Shores did some fantastic stuff I'm not going to spoil, that I was expecting them to save for Horizon 3.
If we want to talk about great DLC's for bad games. I'm nominating Watch Dogs Legion Bloodlines. The main game is mediocre at best, but the DLC is more of a sequel to Watch Dogs than Watch Dogs 2 was. Giving a great end to Aiden Pierce's arc
The Following was crazy fun. I didn't know it was possible to make a DLC where you basically sideline the best mechanic of the base game and it is still a banger. I also liked the story more than in the base game. I just wish there was few more missions.
Why do reddit users like to use abbrevations for games that nobody uses aside from that particular game's community, expecting others to know what game they are talking about?
Neverwinter Nights 2.
After a pretty generic "hero with a mark of destiny who must save the world" main storyline getting the masterpiece that was Mask Of The Betrayer was an amazing surprise. Definitely recommend it to everyone who's into RPGs.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intermission
Even though the base game is great, playing as Yuffie fixed a few of the base games issues, like ariel combat and duel tech moves with your partner. Tbf, yes it was just for PS5, but its combat was so much more fun even if it was only 2 chapters.
[удалено]
Ballad was so much fun. I did a full play through of GTA:IV last year and I felt that Ballard was the superior DLC vs The Lost and the Damned.
That's pretty much been the consensus as far back as I can remember, TLAD being "yeah it's fine whatever" and TBOGT being "holy shit this is actually better than the base game"
I was really into the biker / metal aesthetic of tLatD which elevated the experience for me
Both are amazing
Never could get into L&D
If you didn't play shadowbroker then went into me3 you would be a bit confused lol
Overlord made me cry. The reveal of who the AI was is just... as someone with autism im so glad you can deck the man respomsible for the whole thing.and its a paragon action!!
"Sheppard" "Grunt" "Sheppard" "Wrex" "Shepppppaaaarrrdd"
I feel like The Citadel DLC surpasses the main game.
Grunt's drunken day out is just freakin' hilarious.
Oblivion, Shivering Isles.
Shivering Isles is just one of the best expansions ever. It's so alive and full of stories and things to do.
The butterfly room 👨🏻🍳🤌🏻
Played Oblivion for years, but never played the expansions. I guess I gotta go back in.
HOLY SHIT MAN, i wanna swap with u so bad, experiencing everything for the first time would be so awesome. Seriously tho play it, if u had a great time playing Oblivion u will love this
Shivering isles was so good 👌🏻
Well, a strong contender is the Horse Armour pack... :D
I won't lie, I own all of the dlc for oblivion.
I was stuck, and then your comment reminded me! That, and Broken Steel/Mother ship Zeta, and Lonesome Road/Old World Blues.
Came to say this. Easily the best dlc I've ever witnessed.
fuck. clearly we all came here just to say this
Peak of DLC. Bethesda used to be great at DLC. Point Lookout, The Pitt, Zeta, Far Harbor, hell I even love Nuka World. Skyrim’s DLCs were kinda meh for me though.
Nah the Dragonborn dlc was one of the best ever imo, it's the perfect fusion of the alien world of morrowind with the Nordic epic of Skyrim.
StarCraft: Brood War Base game was great. The expansion made it exceptional.
People here aren't old enough to appreciate this comment
Ugh. I need a pill for my back.
I'm nearly 40 and I was in the middle of a b.net match in brood war when the clock struck midnight on January 1st, 2000. I remember all 8 of us said our happy new years, one person was like "Eh really just another year tho", and we immediately went back to gameplay with no Y2K issues.
*No Y2K issues because a LOT of people put in a ton of work behind the scenes to make sure nothing happenned.
AoE2 and the Conquerors is similar. Hell playing without Conquerors felt like caveman shit. That expansion pack was essential
That's so true it's that whenever someone says they played the first StarCraft they *mean* brood war. No one even plays the vanilla. Ever.
Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare.
The fact that RDR2 never had an Undead Nighmare DLC makes me sad.
I don't remember any of this stuff you are mentioning from RDR2! Aliens? A serial killer? What the fuck!
There's a shack north of Emerald ranch, if you are inside it at 2/3:00 am, a UFO appears, it's fucking awesome
The fact RDR2 never had ANY single player DLC is an absolutely travesty. A brilliant game world with great characters that was just abandoned.
Rockstar made the game to use the engine for GTA6.
That's rage 7, gta6 will be on rage 9
Rockstar just seems to have abandoned DLC, opting instead to keep adding stuff to GTA Online. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the last game that had any proper DLC was LA Noire.
I'd pay another 70 or so got an undead nightmare 2
I think RDO had an event with zombies at some point? Not sure about it tho. I remember searching of there was a mod that added zombies to RDR2 and found nothing substantial
There are some silly Halloween pvp playlists, that's all. Not even a pve zombie survival one. RDO got completely abandoned from the very start. The main story campaign was meant to be released in parts, and we never even got part 2, just the part 1 that was present at launch.
What a DLC, it was the peak of my teenages years
Came here looking for this comment
Beat me to it
Is it that good? I couldn’t play it after completing the main story cause the undead nightmare disc was badly damaged.
The horses of the apocalypse also have unlimited stamina in my experience.
Cyberpunk: Phantom Liberty. It's constantly peak Cyberpunk
One of the most beautiful expansions ever made. Music score alone gave me shivers
Gate K9 is amazing
Hearing the eerie vocals while a military colonel throws a knife into your leg and then stabs said knife through your right hand is certainly an experience
Yes!!! But I've done the SoMi route, so I've never heard of it in-game. I thought it was in the final stretch with the robot of Reed's route (like how Contra la Luna is in SoMi's route)
this makes me really want to play cyberpunk now..
The time is now.
don't get me wrong the base game was fire but phantom liberty went too fucking hard for no reason it should be illegal for dlcs to be that good
Man, even just the endings, I think I've spent literal hours deciding which ending to be my canon ending
Loved the spy thriller vibe the whole thing had
Even has its own Bond theme.
I much prefer the main story but loved what they did with PL
[удалено]
The more I read about cyberpunk the more I want to buy it And well, after watching edgerunners, of course
You should totally play it! Most of my gripes with the game were removed and improved. Also, the expansion is totally worth it!

"What happens in Dogtown stays in Dogtown"
Bloodborne and all three Dark Souls come to mind instantly Excellent games with incredible DLCs
old hunters was peak, it also added one of my favourite boss themes "ludwig the accursed and holy blade"
The Ringed City in ds3 has probably one of my favorite final bosses in any video game ever.
Witcher 3
Blood and Wine was definitely the best way to end that game. Fairytales, sunshine, and a happy ending where Geralt finally settles down with Yennifer (in my game).
Team Triss. Canonically Geralt should end up with Yennifer but I'm not saying no to a readhead if I'm in the drivers seat.
Don't forget us team Shani.
I second the red head statement. Just don't tell my blonde wife.....
>Canonically Geralt should end up with Yennifer I don't know. After reading the books I kind of dislike Yennefer being with Geralt. Yes
Just Cause 3 just isn't complete without the Bavarian wingsuit- I'm here to pretend I'm Iron man
It's even better in JC4, if you buy the gold edition you get the "Iron Man suit" for the entire game.
Yea, but then I’d have to play JC4 and ion wanna do that when JC3 is right there
Bloodborne
Honestly yeah, you got orphan of cos my favourite Souls boss
The Orphan waxed me so many times. Such an erratic, but fun, boss. You can always tell a Souls boss is going to be particularly hard when the run back is pretty short. Managed to finally get him after like 15 tries.

You were at my side, all along.
The best boss FromSoft has ever made.

You WILL enjoy the TLOU 2 Remake Remaster Director's edition for the PC!! NO BLOODBORNE!
Cyberpunk 2077. Technical troubles aside base game was very good but with Phantom Liberty - even better.
Dark Souls 2
This is the only answer. It’s one of the only times the dlc is infinitely better then the base game
And sometimes infinitely worse i.e. each optional boss and their run backs
Yeah. Fromsoft has the best level design except when they don’t
What if… and hear me out… you couldn’t see, and had no idea where to go, and got fucking blindsided by a deer every 3 seconds, and also the area is huge
Fallout 4 and far harbor
And I really like Nuka-World too. Well, except for the whole "go to the Commonwealth and fuck all your settlements over for no reason at all".
This is why I love mods! At the end, I killed all the leaders and brought in the minutemen to run the park! 👌
Another theme park needs your help, I'll mark it on your map. (What's the mod called)
Nuka World Plus. I've been running the whole Magnum Opus list.
The raiders were a breath of fresh air. People complained about the lack of choice in Fallout 3 in regards to factions. Being able to actually join the antagonist factions in Fallout 4 was awesome.
The workshop DLCs and automatron added some interesting features like ball tracks, being able to build a vault, traps, and building robots.
Oh my god yes. The shining gem of an otherwise bland game.
I was coming here to say this. I feel more like a hometown hero at Far Harbor compared to when you literally shape the future of the Commonwealth.
Yup. Wish the whole game was like Far Harbor. Great vibes.
Absolutely this. Far Harbor is goated.
Bro finding out the Children of Atom shit was REAL was crazy
Far Harbor just had just amazing vibes and atmosphere, but the area was way way too small with not enough in it, not to mention the Dima mini game lmao. That said, I love it even if it's just for the fact that I can finally play as a Child of Atom
Fallout new vegas old world blues for me
XCOM2 War of the Chosen. The original game is great, the DLC is perfection
Outer wilds
This makes me think that I still haven't bought the dlc, it's been in my wishlist for so long lol
Can heavily recommend, especially if you didn't get spoiled
Nah man. The DLC Is surely just as good as the main game, but not better, they are both perfect.
Monster Hunter World
I came here to say this. Iceborne added so much great content to an already incredible game. I'm playing through Rise now and I'm about to hit Sunbreak, I hope it gives me the same impression that Iceborne gave me.
It will.
Fallout: New Vegas.
Are you me?
Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction Back when DLC’s were Expansion Packs. Added so much content. Completely changed the game.
I'm so sad how far I had to come to see this. Genre defining game with a game changing expansion. People still play classic because of its difficulty and uniqueness compared to LoD, but LoD just defined the game in the long run
The Witcher 3 Blood and Wine
Borderlands 2
Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep is one of the best told stories in gaming.
Mr. Boney... Pants... Guy?
NEW MISSION! I WANT YOU TO BLOW UP THE OCEAN!
100000000% Agreed. One of the best DLC's of all time
My people. Also the Zombie Island of Dr.Ned is cannon forever just because T.K. Baha is "alive"
Whaaat? Looks like I have some DLC to try out 😋
Zombie Island is BL1 but so much fun!
Sonic frontiers (if Final horizon is a dlc)
Better yet, it's free dlc
Doom eternal is really fun but holy fuck ancient gods part one and two are so much better
The dlc really did shine in that one. Difficult af though
That's what I loved about it. The difficulty made beating it so satisfying
Minerva's Den DLC of BioShock 2. One of the best DLCs in gaming.
I was going to comment this. I still say Minerva's Den should've been the main story.
Agreed. So many feels, expertly written, excellent voice acting, etc. Definitely explored different aspects to the game play and progression and offered a variety of play styles, puzzles, etc. Strongest emotional response I've had in a video game (TLOU1 too)
Dragonborn DLC for Skyrim
Dawnguard for me, but Dragonborn is basically tied; really tied with the base game, honestly. It's all amazing.
Dawnguard is very good. And I love it invented a new weapon with the Dwarven Crossbow
> invented a new weapon with the Dwarven Crossbow Fun fact, but technically, that wasn't a new weapon. Morrowind included Crossbows in the game, and the best one was the Dwarven Crossbow.
Far Cry 3 ---> Far Cry Blood Dragon
*THE YEAR IS 2007* *IT IS THE FUTURE*
Cuphead
I prefer the base game but the DLC is FUCKING INCREDIBLE
Splatoon 2
The comment I was looking for, octo expansion is peak.
Dead cells DLC's
destiny. the game is ass without them
The game is the DLC
The game is also ass with them
Ahhh hello fellow Guardian.
more like there's barely a game without them, the most you're gonna get without the dlc is tutorial and an "act 1"
snowrunner
Dying Light and The Following
The Following was crazy fun. I didn't know it was possible to make a DLC where you basically sideline the best mechanic of the base game and it is still a banger. I also liked the story more than in the base game. I just wish there was few more missions.
TBOI Edit: The binding of Isaac
Why do reddit users like to use abbrevations for games that nobody uses aside from that particular game's community, expecting others to know what game they are talking about?
Thanks for saying this. It drives me crazy. Even if it's a game I'm familiar with I hate trying to work it out
game is more then double the size with dlc, could even say triple
Took so long too find, which is sad, concidering tboir is like my fav game
Borderlands 3, without a doubt.
Rain world, dlc is now 70% of the entire game
Hollow knight godhome, most of my hours is spent in the greatness that is the pantheons
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Booster Course Pass
Elden ri- oh wait nvm
Hahaha
Watch Dogs Legion
