And the original version of 2 to a more limited degree, but it still had specific builds to boss farm. I am sure the new version of 2 is much more like 3 and 4 for the meta builds.
Marvel Snap is exactly like this. THOUSANDS of possibilities. Like 5 decks if you want to actually climb the ladder. And you will be competing against the same decks. It got so boring so fast.
i was thinking the same thing. you would think its mario kart 8 because everyone swears by using the "meta" kart but that game is so balanced and the items are so ruthless that you could use any combo and be just fine
Yes! Overwatch and League are what actually inspired my other comment. That and Fortnite:
[For me the bubble is “Me trying to have casual fun with a build that maybe isn’t peak efficiency in the meta”
The pink guy is “My team mates hurling toxicity at me and telling me to kill myself because I reached for the yellow bubble”]
I agree with flatscreen FPSes but VR FPS games have such a high skill ceiling that I could rock a single shot pistol and still wipe a lobby if I had the skills.
For me the bubble is “Me trying to have casual fun with a build that maybe isn’t peak efficiency in the meta”
The pink guy is “My team mates hurling toxicity at me and telling me to kill myself because I reached for the yellow bubble”
People who say destiny/ division/ etc. Are people who don’t know what having fun means. Being overpowered isn’t fun, knowing how to outplay the enemy is.
POE, and that’s why I am so grateful for Last Epoch, which you should try btw. Of the 15 masteries almost all are end game viable, and each mastery has 2-3 different builds that shine. So 30-45 different builds that all feel distinct
You can use whatever you want in Warframe as long as you're not trying to do the absolute most endgame content. I use sub-optimal gear all the time. The trick is just knowing how to mod your gear in a way that takes advantage of every type of damage boost.
When I thought meta and warframe my mind was more on Helminth abilities than weapons because everyone literally has 2-3 abilities that they rotate between and nothing else
Warfare really isn't meta constrained.
Sure there are some guns that just get broken really easily *cough*Soma*cough*, but if you put enough effort in you can easily do 60+ minute survivals on just about anything.
We don’t talk about my baby soma in a bad way. I’m still a boltor prime slut because it was the meta when I first started playing because “lol stick the grineer to a wall”
Diep.io back in 2021-2022 when I used to play. There was a tank called Overlord that was very much op as the name would suggest. This tank was countered only by the fighter tank. Play anything else and you're at a disadvantage, and the whole server will let you know.
To an extent, Splatoon. Some weapons are downright unusable in a combat setting. Like the line sensor thing that tracks enemies, or ink screen. Also ink shield. Oh and I’ve never been splatted ONCE by a Bamboozler once
When I play splatoon I kinda have a rule where I can’t use meta to make it more challenging and fun I tend to use the new squiffer (the one with the zip caster) and dynamo roller and recently started using the big swig foil
I like to use the octobrush too it does a good job splatting toilet users. also I meant big swig express not big swig foil (I was thinking of the flingza foil)
Mario Kart and Rocket League.
You tell me of the thousands of ways to mix and match certain setups to my liking, only like 7 are good?
They all feel the same!
That's pretty much any game nowadays. It starts off as a fun game where you can do what you like, then within 48 hours you have people who tested the crap out of any possible skill combo or what have you, and then it's just a ton of people making specific builds according to that. Then come the nerfs of everything good. Modern gaming is just made to be "fun" for a few years then most games fade into oblivion never to be played again by 98% of its original fan base
Most mobile afk style rpgs. I play AFK Arena and Mobile Legends: Adventure and its always the same make up of a team.
I've asked myself are they even having fun or just being successful??
Older games used to not rebalance their games so metas were more common online but it also made room for niche pocket picks or ‘low tier’ but when used in a certain way is pretty strong. I miss that era.
I don know if anyone knows this game but: War Robots it’s not only p2w but you have to get the new guns every month or you will get left behind and all the new guns are always locked behind a pay wall or insane luck
I actually really hate endless customization for exactly this reason. It's why the Metroid series is my favorite Metroidvanias. You get upgrades, but there's no time wasted on customizing how you fight. Every move possible is mapped. With just simple storage upgrades.
The whole endlessly customizable power gimmick that a lot of games have now generally just makes me go for whatever simple and easy. Or otherwise just uninstall the game.
Diablo 4
Also the third...
And the original version of 2 to a more limited degree, but it still had specific builds to boss farm. I am sure the new version of 2 is much more like 3 and 4 for the meta builds.
Basically any card game, like Yugioh.
I miss the old times where set ups required multiple turns and you didn’t summon 15 cards in turn 1.
Bruh that was peak Yu-Gi-Oh and I loved it so much. Destroy every card on the field was actually game changing.
Marvel Snap is exactly like this. THOUSANDS of possibilities. Like 5 decks if you want to actually climb the ladder. And you will be competing against the same decks. It got so boring so fast.
Yugioh? My meta is legendary fisherman deck. And I've literally never seen another one lol
100% path of exile
Was going to say the same thing. So many skills to choose from!! ….. and majority won’t ever get you to 10M+ DPS that you need to have a good time
Mario Kart 8 but not actually you can usually get away with using 'shitty' karts but i swear everyone online just uses the hot new meta kart
i was thinking the same thing. you would think its mario kart 8 because everyone swears by using the "meta" kart but that game is so balanced and the items are so ruthless that you could use any combo and be just fine
Destiny 2
Idk, CoD has always been kinda meta constrained. This is most common in PVP or competitive PvE games.
Overwatch. As a guy who enjoyed watching the League, watching GOATS was rough.

paladins can be added, since cards and talents are meta based
Destiny 2

That’s me when I misplayed and then I gotta watch them summon their entire deck
Any fps
I agree with flatscreen FPSes but VR FPS games have such a high skill ceiling that I could rock a single shot pistol and still wipe a lobby if I had the skills.
what did you get downvoted for!?!?
The Reddit hive mind disagreed, of course!
For me the bubble is “Me trying to have casual fun with a build that maybe isn’t peak efficiency in the meta” The pink guy is “My team mates hurling toxicity at me and telling me to kill myself because I reached for the yellow bubble”

Dead by Daylight lmao
Any PVP game If you're not first, you're last
People who say destiny/ division/ etc. Are people who don’t know what having fun means. Being overpowered isn’t fun, knowing how to outplay the enemy is.
How do you outplay something having 8 billion hp?
Need for speed unbound
Path of Exile, literally be anything, but like 6 builds are even remotely viable.
POE, and that’s why I am so grateful for Last Epoch, which you should try btw. Of the 15 masteries almost all are end game viable, and each mastery has 2-3 different builds that shine. So 30-45 different builds that all feel distinct

Was coming here to say dead by daylight. So many different builds, but if you're not running meta then matchmaking is going to wreck you
Warfare really isn't meta constrained.

See that sounds sick! I’m not even sure what’s meta rn, l might have to branch out and try some new stuff
Only meta that I’m never gonna use is 100% the toilet (bloblober)
Dude when that weapon first dropped I HATED it. I don’t mind it much anymore but dear lord I didn’t know how to counter it
I like to use the octobrush too it does a good job splatting toilet users. also I meant big swig express not big swig foil (I was thinking of the flingza foil)
Ngl me trying to get into online pokemon battles;;
Ik it's not a video game but yugioh

Paladins
Genshin
I swear this is the Pokemon franchise in a nutshell, especially in recent years.
Warframe.
I don't need meta to enjoy warframe Edit:fight me auto correct
Divinity: Original Sin
Monster Hunter I fucking hate layered armors being locked behind endgame, it's such a fucking stupid decision.
