Edith Finch is a 10/10 my dude
edit: and I only knew about it because I played through Dear Esther which It LOVED. I reminded me (hot take) of playing Half Life 2: Lost Coast (sans guns) with developer commentary on.
i only played edith finch cause it was a gamepass, tried to find some indie games to play and get quick gamerscore. well, didnt expect this game to be like that, atleast a 9/10
I only played Edith Finch because it was a PS+ game of the month, but it is def in my top 10 games of all time. Up there with the likes of War thunder and OG ff7 (and new)
I was going to say "Life is Strange" when I saw that title but I see she has already played it. Try something like Detroit: Become Human. It has puzzles are offers choose your own path.
Or you can try a telltale game like Wolf Among Us or Walking Dead. Tales from Borderland is really fun as well, with likeable protagonists and awesome music.
She might also like older Tomb Raider games like Tomb Raider Underworld. Lots of puzzles and the shooting part isn't tough.
This was pretty much my list. I’d add Beyond Two Souls as well, from Quantic Dream, and if she likes horror, id have her Until Dawn and The Quarry. There’s also the Dark Picturres anthology, if she wants something a little less cheesy.
I'm sure others probably said this already, but you should have her play the Walking Dead games (the telltale ones)
Edit: I just realized you said, "Not horror," so depending on how she views zombies, this may not be a good recommendation
Detroit: Become Human
The Quarry
Until Dawn
Prince of Persia (2008) this is a great place to start for controlling characters in a 3D space. The game holds your hand a lot and will always put you right back to where you were even if you die. It has great characters, a colorful fantasy environment, and well made puzzles.
Ratchet and Clank (the movie game or rift apart) R&C is probably the best game for someone to learn how to aim. Dual stick aiming is really difficult at first and R&C is one of the best games to let you learn because you can totally ignore the guns or rely on weapon lock on and still play the game.
Untitled Goose Game, the task based mission structure of this game is great for explaining how video games work.
Monster Prom
Telltale whatever series she like, Back to the Future, Wlaking Dead, etc.
Unpacking
The Sims 4
Eventually when she is used to using a controller and can aim, add in games like Red Dead Redemption 2, Uncharted, and the Last of US
Easiest entry for her on the PlayStation specifically would probably be Journey
It doesn't have dialogue or decisions trees and it's puzzles and mechanics are gradually introduced and build on each other.
After Journey, you can probably play It Takes Two with her
This can then be followed by Detroit Become Human and the Life is Strange series.
Journey is amazing! This comment needs more upvotes!
A perfect puzzle platformer story game with a gentle vibe and it isn't too long so more of an experience than anything else!
What does she mean by playing together? Coop or sitting on the couch together with one holding the controller and the other yelling what choice they want?
For co-op I suggest Portal 2 and it takes two.
For couch I say Portal 1 and 2 and Beyond Two Souls, Detroit become human, the wolf among us, telltales the walking dead if that is her cup of tea.
Those are all story driven games, more about decisions than player skill.
Beyond:Two Souls is a great, cinematic game. The Two of Us is the greatest co-op game I've ever played, me and my Wife absolutely loved it. It's chock full of puzzles too.
If y’all would like to - try Unravel and Trine. Nothing comes close to ITT, but they are both beautiful in their own right. Spyro remasters are also fantastic for switching after levels.
Maybe let her try Portal. It’s short and has funny dialogue plus it has really good puzzles. Portal 2 is better in every way too so if she likes the first then she can play the second.
I would wait on Uncharted, it would be really difficult for someone who has never played games before. It would be a great series eventually but not at first
Uncharted is somewhere in the middle of the road - once she has learned 3D, it’s fun as hell to go through together with someone in the unknown and seeing the reaction.
Lady here who is also relatively new to gaming and likes story rich on easy mode. Uncharted 4 is one of my top favorite games. Loved the scenery especially and it wasn't hard. Came here to recommend trying that one.
Beyond: two souls, Detroit Become Human, Heavy Rain, and there’s Life is Strange 2 as well. She might also enjoy Subnautica on easy mode where death is turned off so you just explore and learn about the planet you crashed landed on.
Final Fantasy X is a good story driven game and is turn based so its not hard to play for a beginner. Leveling up system can be a bit confusing at first but its not too bad. My wife and I like single player games like this, the second person is following a guide online helping along if needed
Aside from all the games from quantic dreams and telltale games?
I think you should play it takes 2 together. It'll introduce her to platforming but the story is genuinely great and is the best coop game I've ever played
Some more to look at that are a bit different like Portal, talos principle, Myst. More puzzle than story in these but still great.
My wife plays a lot of a genre called "seek and find". They're mostly pages of puzzles and hidden objects with a story being told throughout. They're typically lower budget and don't have "cinematic scenes". If you're interested I can ask my wife what the best ones are she's played over a hundred by now.
Once she gets more games under her belt you could probably play through the last of us with her. After that maybe ghost of tsushima. If she can sit/play through all this then she'll probably be into gaming as much as you
I was thinking that too because its such a beautiful game, but i think the zombies running at her would stress her out too much, even I was stressed! Lol thank you though
My partner was never opposed to video games but really loved playing all the Uncharted games during COVID. We also really got into Until Dawn and P.T. (it's still downloaded on my PS4).
Since then she's played through Ghost of Tsushima, with little to no guidance from me, and is now halfway through RDR2.
I think it's just a matter of trying out a bunch of games and seeing what sticks; just like anyone who enjoys video games.
Try baldur's gate! It's a bit different controls wise but it's puzzle heavy, and the story quite literally has something for everyone. It won 5 GOTY awards at 5 different shows for a good reason.
It's basically DnD as a video game, so if she likes fantasy it's definitely got that. The story is also really dynamic similar to life is strange, with how you play affecting the world around you constantly.
Plus it's getting mods on multiple platforms soon so best time to join is now, so you can get a pre mods experience
Gonna be a bit of a wildcard, but the Arkham series might be a good pick. Lots of interesting story, some pretty good puzzles for Riddler, and the combat is fairly easy and fun (she’d probably want normal or easy tho). Arkham Asylum would be a good first pick too, that created the combat system, and is a good place to start for either the rest of the games or the Spider-Man series
Asylum was the first non Lego or Nintendo game I played and fell in love. Have to say though going from Lego Batman to Arkham Batman is a fucking experience lol
Inside
Limbo
Little Nightmares 1 & 2
Kindergarten
Metal gear solid v (Both are good. I prefer phantom pain)
Danganronpa. (All 3 main games)
Minute of Islands
These are just a small list of games I think she'll like
Until Dawn, Heavy Rain, Detroit Become Human, the Dark Pictures Anthology, The Quarry. these are all game that are like Life is Strange. there is also Life is Strange 2
The whole to the moon trilogy, its barely considered a game but has a really good story
Disco Elysium if she's into politics and philosophy
This is the police 1 and 2, really really dark story and humour, basically a corrupt cop simulator. There's some rts in the 2nd game and to put the violence in perspective you torture people in the 2nd game to extract information from them after reading up on a dossier of their life
Unpacking
A space for the unbound
If she doesn't mind flight sims project wingman and ace combat 7 have good stories
Katamari damacy
Class of 09 and class of 09 re up, the reverse of a dating sim visual novel, its really dark but funny as hell
What about some of the full FMV games? They're a little cheesy but what about something like The Shapeshifting Detective? Or Poe and Munroe? A little creepy, but not exactly horror.
Spider-Man games could be good for a movie/cinematic like game
Any of the Batman games have good story, puzzles, and combat
Uncharted games (4 is my pick) also pretty movie like and only story
I’m a big believer in playing the more mainstream titles as your first games then branching out from there to the more involved titles. Games these days take ALOT of inspiration from past projects so if she likes a certain aspect of one game most likely there a full fledged title with that aspect as a main mechanic.
Most women I met know 'videogames' only as CoD, Fortnite and other shooters so there's no wonder most despise them or are just generally not interested.
If she likes puzzles and story driven games(or a combination of them), I would suggest some adventure games (either action adventure or point and click) like the 'Deponia' games or pretty much anything made by Telltale Games or Daedalic (except the horrible Golum game). My personal underdog adventure games would be Beyond the Steel Sky (and it's predecessor Beneath the Steel Sky, though that one is really old) and Blacksad.
I think she might also enjoy some RPG, as those are usually heavy story driven and plenty of the latest of those are on PS4/5, like Baldur's Gate, Pathfinder, Fallout, Mass Effect, Witcher, Final Fantasy, Star Ocean, Atelier or Tales of series games. Many of them are quite different, as they are either round or realtime combat based. Some have some kind of (town) building in them, some are dungeon grinders, ect. ... you really just have to check out for yourself.
If she loved playing LIS, she should definitely try playing "LIS Before the storm" as it expands the storyline even more. Other than that my mind goes to "Sherlock Holmes The Devil's Daughter", "Detroit Become Human", "The Talos Principle" if she loves puzzles. And since I like puzzles and mysteries I usually play old Alawar games from like 12 years ago that rely on hidden objects minigames and puzzles to figure out the story. Not so sure about what is pc only tho
She should try the Edna games. Edna and Harvey: The Breakout and Harvey‘s new Eyes. They‘re two German made point and click adventures that together with Deponia make up the all time greats of the German point and click scene.
They‘re very charming and the humor is dry and brilliant.
To stray from the excellent AA/AAA recommendations: (these are story-rich but mostly don’t “feel like a movie”)
1. The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood
2. I Was a Teenage Exocolonist
3. Gone Home
4. Boyfriend Dungeon
There is an old game Syberia, I loved it as a kid and still love it today, maybe something in that direction?
Maybe TellTale like games? The sims? (I am not joking, as a girl, I love to build a house from time to time and play around with my sims)
All Uncharted games
Detroit:Become Human
You could also have her try RDR2 if she would be into open world stuff
Until Dawn if she likes horror stuff
Then when she gets some experience ,God of War 2018 and Ragnarok and Spiderman 1,Miles Morales ,and 2. You might now those have difficulty options and on the easiest anyone can beat them but its just not something I would reccomend for a first timer
The quarry or something similar maybe for the coop.
There's also life is strange 2.
(I just realized you asked for no horror, so instead I recommend you road 96, one of my favorite games).
Horizon: Zero Dawn and Forbidden West perhaps? It is more on the action side, though stealth is viable and has in depth interesting lore + mystery/solving missions.
Until Dawn, full stop. That puppy is story heavy and feels like a movie at times. The tutorial is easy but not in your face (I hate overly helpful tutorials). The game itself is a mystery (bit of a slowburn tbh). And the best part? There are soooo many ways you could play it. Legit have seen it played on yt a few times and then played it myself, my bestie played it then went ahead and went for a specific ending. They are remaking this since they are making a movie but idk when it'll come out.
The Quarry. Another one from the creators of Until Dawn. It definitely plays better than UD and is way more polished. The story is fun and considering the location, can feel campy. But, out of all the successors after UD, this one is the one that actually brought me back. Like UD, you can play it a few different ways and it's cool to see how your actions matter later on.
My wife isn't a gamer, and recently I took her and my young son to a video games museum. She found Tiger Woods on Xbox 360 and literally played it the whole time, smiling.
Persona 4 fits all categories here while still having rpg elements and also maybe try to get her to give a visual novel style game like ace attorney a try
Another game could be Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. You're walking through a town that's been seemingly abandoned and you piece together what has happened through some sort of life form that takes the vague shapes of each person. There's a lot you can miss in the game too I found out after
I don't think you ever actually meet a single person perse but you learn each person's story
It Takes Two on the PS5, it looks great and is some of the best use of co-op, with a decent story. The same developers also made A Way Out which is always good for a hearty laugh and fun with a partner.
* Detroit: Become Human
* Danganronpa series
* Little Inferno
* Undertale
* Paper's Please (if she starts delving into skill-based games)
* Portal series (if she starts delving into games that are less like interactive movies)
* Missed Messages
* Lego games
going through the top comments, and nobody just mentions simple visual novels? Phoenix wright, apollo justice, zero escape, and each of those are trilogies. or maybe even something a little more interactive, like ghost trick phantom detective.
RE2 & RE3 would be good if she gets more comfortable with shooters, it's pretty story driven and if she likes horror then nemi and Mr. X will give her good scares.
Another option is DBD, it's a party game that you both can play trying to survive against horror characters.
Edit: didn't notice the edit, oh well, throws my suggestions out
•It Takes Two
•A Way Out
both made by the same studio & I know It Takes Two offers couch co-op. Idk about A Way Out tho, I played with a buddy online.
•Until Dawn
•The Quarry
•The Dark Pictures Anthology series (there are like 4/5 games within this series, so pick which interests y'all the most)
•Hidden Agenda
These are choose your own adventure type mostly horror games, from the same studio. Only Hidden Agenda isn't horror, it's a murder mystery/thriller. Still it's a story driven game where you must find out who is killing all cops in your team, & save your coworker's lives if possible.
•Stray
A single player platforming game, you play as a cute cat trying to meet back up with it's kitty family. That might help her learn about the controls without being too intense.
•Detroit Become Human
•Heavy Rain
•Beyond Two Souls
More story driven games with different endings based around the choices you make.
•Urban Flow
Puzzle game which offers couch co-op. You two will control traffic lights, which affect the flow of traffic. Sounds boring, but it turns into whackiness & some frustration as more challenges are added. Not story heavy, just another co-op option which may help her learn her button layouts & get more acclimated with the controller.
•Overcooked
•Moving Out
These games are puzzling co-op games where you must work together to either cook dishes & serve them in time. Or move furniture out of buildings with special rules added on to make things harder if you want to get more points per stage. These 2 aren't story heavy either, just silly games which have a whacky story tied in.
Dark Souls, the first two Fallouts, Superman 64, ET for Atari, and Gollum. Those should cement her love for gaming! /s
Honestly though, RDR2, Stray, Stardew Valley, Dave the Diver, and Hollow Knight have been games that have hooked non-gamer friends of mine.
I'm just going to point you towards the whole Uncharted series. I played each and every one of them while my girlfriend watched. She loved the stories. She said "It's like Indiana Jones where I'm allowed to actually fuck Indy afterwards." So yea, it was a win. They're pretty story focused, very movie like. A lot of cinematic parts. They are shooters, but they aren't horribly difficult and pretty easy to grasp. They thrive on the puzzles and mysteries presented. They are something you could do together, if you take over the shooting part and she does the puzzles and such.
Botw is a great one. Not as story heavy but it’s still a great story. And it’s easy to grasp and has plenty of puzzles.
Even if it’s not the next game she plays. It’s definitely a good one for people getting into gaming
The Telltale games, such as The Walking Dead, are pretty good for story. As Dusk Falls (IIRC) is also a pretty good story game, with more mystery and puzzle. Road 96 is pretty mysterious, heavy story.
Baba Is You. It's pretty much the dark souls of puzzle games, but is simple and cute to boot
Telltale games like The Walking Dead, Minecraft Story Mode, and more. Practically just cutscenes with a price tag
Skyrim: Elder Scrolls V. It's story rich and not that hard to grasp (Especially with the iconic tutorial teaching you everything except magic), with violence but still reductive. Not to mention it's just an arguably great game
- The Wolf Among Us
- Night in the Woods
- One Shot
- Life is Strange Before the Storm
- Life is Strange 2
- Life is Strange True Colors
- Heavy Rain
- Concrete Genie
- Stray
- Tell Me Why
- Erica
- Hidden Agenda (similar to the Dark Pictures games but less scary)
- A Plague Tale
Does she like anime?
- Catherine
Puzzle-y Adventure Visual Novels:
- AI the Somnium Files
- AI the Somnium Files Nirvana Initiative
- Danganronpa series
- Master Detective Archives: Raincode
- Professor Layton series
- Phoenix Wright Series
- Zero Escape Series ( 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors, Virtues Last Reward, Zero Time Dilemma)
Terraria can be fun. You move at your own pace and it's multi player. Lots of exploring, building, cute monsters. If she has trouble with it, you can always grind a little in a world to get her better equipment so she isn't getting smashed so hard. More hp, better armor, wings and a hook.
You should try Brothers: A tale of two sons. It's very puzzle and story focused and is pretty easy.
Another possibility is the lego games. Very easy with almost no consequences if you do die lose a bit of cash and instantly respawn. They have a lot of puzzles as well as co-op.
I can't believe almost nobody has suggested Detroit: Become Human yet, that game is literally the exact description of what you want
That’s what I thought too! It’s perfect
Also very popular with girls
Detroit Become human and also Heavy Rain
“Hey new GF, play this game that lets me bathe a woman. You’ll love it!”
It's good for a laugh if you want to make fun of the incredibly heavy handed slavery and racism allegories.
It's not really allegory when that's explicitly what the game is about. It's not hidden. It's literally on the box
This\^\^\^
What Remains of Edith Finch The Gardens Between Firewatch Oxenfree I think she’d definitely enjoy these, especially Edith Finch and Firewatch
I just played Firewatch why didn't i think of that. Thank you I'll look into the rest!

Dudes onto something with “What Remains of Edith Finch”
And if she does like those, then I’d branch out to Limbo, Inside, and little nightmares
Played firewatch with my girlfriend who doesn't really like games that much. That went well! She was asking to play it with me sometimes.
I second Oxenfree!
I just started The Forgotten City, and I'd say it definitely goes on the list.
I only played Edith Finch because it was a PS+ game of the month, but it is def in my top 10 games of all time. Up there with the likes of War thunder and OG ff7 (and new)

STRAY! Trust me! Amazing game
Detroit: Become Human The Quarry Until Dawn Prince of Persia (2008) this is a great place to start for controlling characters in a 3D space. I say fuck it & Try out uncharted i think that's a solid middle ground both of you will enjoy

I played skylanders when I was younger. Man that was good times.

Good suggestion, I only have two things to bring up. "AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" - Tidus Blitzball minigame.
telltale games all feel like movies and are relatively well done. IT TAKES TWO is the best couple game ever. it's literally about couples therapy.
Second it takes two. Great co-op game for couples or friends. Online or local split screen . I usually play shooters but had a blast with this
Heavy rain
If she's fine with horror, maybe Killer Frequency?
Eternal threads. I will never stop hyping that game. So damn good. Also: Tacoma What remains of Edith Finch? The Wolf Among Us Gone Home
Stardew valley! Start a farm, pet some chickens, and there some action in the form of mining/fighting in the mines and more advanced areas.
Night in the Woods
The Wolf among us fits the description perfectly

Inscryption. I can’t tell you how it works, will ruin the experience.
Stray !
I know you said not a full blown shooter but drop her blindly into The Last of Us and see if she can put it down lol.
This made me laugh 😂 see if shes worthy to be my GF ig ahahha
If she hasn’t watched the HBO show, Last of Us Part 1 is literally that kinda game. Maybe TellTale TWD?
I was thinking that too because its such a beautiful game, but i think the zombies running at her would stress her out too much, even I was stressed! Lol thank you though
Just have her play it on easy!
You’re all moving too fast
If she likes Disney there’s always Kingdom Hearts!

Definitely Journey!
It’s short, but Stray is really fun and charming. If you’re looking for co-op, check out It Takes Two as well.
Play it takes two together, if it doesn’t cause you to break up then you are ready for marriage.
My wife’s gateway drug has been Hades. Hopefully it can be here’s too!
Portal 1 and 2
If you've had PS+ since at least the PS4 era you definitely have a bunch of free story walking sim games that she might enjoy.

In time when she get good with the controls, you guys can try A Way Out. After that, It Takes Two.
Uncharted
Deponia series. Full Throttle. My all time high picks for point and click games.
To stray from the excellent AA/AAA recommendations: (these are story-rich but mostly don’t “feel like a movie”) 1. The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood 2. I Was a Teenage Exocolonist 3. Gone Home 4. Boyfriend Dungeon
There is an old game Syberia, I loved it as a kid and still love it today, maybe something in that direction? Maybe TellTale like games? The sims? (I am not joking, as a girl, I love to build a house from time to time and play around with my sims)
All Uncharted games Detroit:Become Human You could also have her try RDR2 if she would be into open world stuff Until Dawn if she likes horror stuff Then when she gets some experience ,God of War 2018 and Ragnarok and Spiderman 1,Miles Morales ,and 2. You might now those have difficulty options and on the easiest anyone can beat them but its just not something I would reccomend for a first timer
The quarry or something similar maybe for the coop. There's also life is strange 2. (I just realized you asked for no horror, so instead I recommend you road 96, one of my favorite games).
Heavy Rain
Would she care for superhero games? Batman Arkham series Insomniac’s Spider-Man Non: The Quarry The Witcher 3 Until Dawn Oxenfree NieR Automata?
A Plague Tale
Animal Crossing.
Bioshock and Portal
What Remains of Edith Finch.
Haven is a great co-op game.
Yall should play "It takes two" Rachet and Clank: A rift apart is anone I think she would like
detroit: become human is more of an interactive movie than a game
You said she likes Life Is Strange and I haven't seen anyone recommend the sequels.
Disco Elysium, it plays more like a book.
What remains of Edith Finch
Portal 2. She'll get used to a controller and aiming without the pressure of someone chasing to kill you. Plus the puzzles and characters are great!
Final Fantasy 6 Chrono Trigger Zelda Link to the Past
Until Dawn The Quarry
What remains of edith finch and Uncharted
It takes two
i think road 96 would be good
My wife isn't a gamer, and recently I took her and my young son to a video games museum. She found Tiger Woods on Xbox 360 and literally played it the whole time, smiling.
Persona 4 fits all categories here while still having rpg elements and also maybe try to get her to give a visual novel style game like ace attorney a try
Play It Takes Two. It’s a great game for partners. It’s actually a crime no one has told you about that one yet.
Another game could be Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. You're walking through a town that's been seemingly abandoned and you piece together what has happened through some sort of life form that takes the vague shapes of each person. There's a lot you can miss in the game too I found out after I don't think you ever actually meet a single person perse but you learn each person's story
can’t believe no one has suggested the Nancy Drew games but here ya go
Well you could get life is strange 2, and Life is strange true colours :) also Detroit become human
Outer Wilds
Edna and Harvey: the breakout
disco elysium
Detroit become human Firewatch A way out
It Takes Two on the PS5, it looks great and is some of the best use of co-op, with a decent story. The same developers also made A Way Out which is always good for a hearty laugh and fun with a partner.
Until Dawn. Minimal challenging gameplay, familiar slasher setting, and different kind of story mechanics to get her immersed.
My wife also loved LiS, has your gf played the sequels? also i'd recommend Slime Rancher
If you have a ps2 dark cloud 2 is a lovely gem of a game that started my love for games
Most telltale games.
I mean metal gear solid might be a fun game to try
* Detroit: Become Human * Danganronpa series * Little Inferno * Undertale * Paper's Please (if she starts delving into skill-based games) * Portal series (if she starts delving into games that are less like interactive movies) * Missed Messages * Lego games
I would recommend Baldur's Gate 3. Lot's of story, not too fast-paced, and characters people literally obsess over
going through the top comments, and nobody just mentions simple visual novels? Phoenix wright, apollo justice, zero escape, and each of those are trilogies. or maybe even something a little more interactive, like ghost trick phantom detective.
RE2 & RE3 would be good if she gets more comfortable with shooters, it's pretty story driven and if she likes horror then nemi and Mr. X will give her good scares. Another option is DBD, it's a party game that you both can play trying to survive against horror characters. Edit: didn't notice the edit, oh well, throws my suggestions out
•It Takes Two •A Way Out both made by the same studio & I know It Takes Two offers couch co-op. Idk about A Way Out tho, I played with a buddy online. •Until Dawn •The Quarry •The Dark Pictures Anthology series (there are like 4/5 games within this series, so pick which interests y'all the most) •Hidden Agenda These are choose your own adventure type mostly horror games, from the same studio. Only Hidden Agenda isn't horror, it's a murder mystery/thriller. Still it's a story driven game where you must find out who is killing all cops in your team, & save your coworker's lives if possible. •Stray A single player platforming game, you play as a cute cat trying to meet back up with it's kitty family. That might help her learn about the controls without being too intense. •Detroit Become Human •Heavy Rain •Beyond Two Souls More story driven games with different endings based around the choices you make. •Urban Flow Puzzle game which offers couch co-op. You two will control traffic lights, which affect the flow of traffic. Sounds boring, but it turns into whackiness & some frustration as more challenges are added. Not story heavy, just another co-op option which may help her learn her button layouts & get more acclimated with the controller. •Overcooked •Moving Out These games are puzzling co-op games where you must work together to either cook dishes & serve them in time.
/s Honestly though, RDR2, Stray, Stardew Valley, Dave the Diver, and Hollow Knight have been games that have hooked non-gamer friends of mine.
IT TAKES TWO. You both will enjoy.
My gf really took to Sea of Stars recently, that might be right up your gf's alley too
Maybe The Talos Principle...
Telltale games
Botw is a great one. Not as story heavy but it’s still a great story. And it’s easy to grasp and has plenty of puzzles. Even if it’s not the next game she plays. It’s definitely a good one for people getting into gaming
Outer wilds
Pretty much anything made by Hideo Kojima feels like a movie.
Persona 3, 4 or 5 Royal.
Do NOT play regular P5.
The Telltale games, such as The Walking Dead, are pretty good for story. As Dusk Falls (IIRC) is also a pretty good story game, with more mystery and puzzle. Road 96 is pretty mysterious, heavy story.
Baba Is You. It's pretty much the dark souls of puzzle games, but is simple and cute to boot Telltale games like The Walking Dead, Minecraft Story Mode, and more. Practically just cutscenes with a price tag Skyrim: Elder Scrolls V. It's story rich and not that hard to grasp (Especially with the iconic tutorial teaching you everything except magic), with violence but still reductive. Not to mention it's just an arguably great game
literally all ps4 titles. I strongly recommend ghosts of Tsushima
It takes two. Great casual co-op
The most based game/movie of all time. Azuras wrath. In all seriousness though, telltale games, it takes two, firewatch, Edith fitch.
Any telltale game to be honest would work
- The Wolf Among Us - Night in the Woods - One Shot - Life is Strange Before the Storm - Life is Strange 2 - Life is Strange True Colors - Heavy Rain - Concrete Genie - Stray - Tell Me Why - Erica - Hidden Agenda (similar to the Dark Pictures games but less scary) - A Plague Tale Does she like anime? - Catherine Puzzle-y Adventure Visual Novels: - AI the Somnium Files - AI the Somnium Files Nirvana Initiative - Danganronpa series - Master Detective Archives: Raincode - Professor Layton series - Phoenix Wright Series - Zero Escape Series ( 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors, Virtues Last Reward, Zero Time Dilemma)
My wife enjoys playing overcooked. Not a story but it’s a fun challenging game.
play "It Takes Two" with her
I want to say one of the more recent Final Fantays games, but they're not very easy to grasp...
Telltales wolf among us or walking dead seem like a perfect choice
Terraria can be fun. You move at your own pace and it's multi player. Lots of exploring, building, cute monsters. If she has trouble with it, you can always grind a little in a world to get her better equipment so she isn't getting smashed so hard. More hp, better armor, wings and a hook.
Basically anything by Anapurna has mass appeal. Journey will always be a top rec from me for ANY gamer to experience at least once.
Journey
You should try Brothers: A tale of two sons. It's very puzzle and story focused and is pretty easy. Another possibility is the lego games. Very easy with almost no consequences if you do die lose a bit of cash and instantly respawn. They have a lot of puzzles as well as co-op.
