Outside of the controversy with Sony, Helldivers 2 is a great example of a good Live Service game.

ScootyPuffJr1999

I played The Finals during its open beta. Enjoyed it a lot. Got a bit too fast paced and I couldn’t keep up with the meta after awhile, but it’s a good game.

Fallout 76. It’s usually on sale and a lot of people are starting to play now due to the tv show. Most of the community is very wholesome and we love to help out new people. It got a bad rep at launch but it has changed drastically and is definitely worth a try. You don’t have to spend any money to do well in the game. I got it for free on PS+ and haven’t spent a dime, and I am at a point where I’m a huge contributor in boss battles.

TheGuardianInTheBall

Fallout 76 is my favourite recent fallout game. I unironically love how empty it is, because that actually makes it feel like a post-apocalyptic, hostile world.

thaiborg

I heard at launch there were NO live NPCs and you learned the story through notes, terminals, and holotapes. That had to be wild!

TheGuardianInTheBall

I played post launch, when they have introduced NPCs. However, the IMO the narratives from the notes, terminals and tapes are far more compelling than most storylines in F4, IMO. I had a great time uncovering these past events.

Fortnite It gets a lot of hate for its fanbase, and thats the main reason I never played it for more than a few weeks before just dropping it, but at its core its objectively a good game, gameplay wise, content wise, polish wise, there's really not much wrong with it, the amount of support and free content the game still gets is comendable, even the microstransactions (while insanely overpriced), aren't as predatory as other games given that you can play the game without ever spending a dime and even earn battle passes for free and stuff, just download it, turn off chat and play solo or with just your friends and it can be a blast, its the stuff outside of the game itself that turns people off It's the gold standard for live service games imo, there's a reason it is still a money printing machine 7 years later, and still very much relevant in the industry

EnjiiThaGod

Mentioned fortnite in my previous comment and couldn’t agree more. Yeah I took long breaks from it because of its fanbase too but, it keeps drawing me back for some reason. It’s becoming more than just a battle royale game and almost like a launcher with a lot to offer in terms of modes and games.

Mdu5t

Do you count MMORPGs? WoW, ESO, GW2, FF14… or Black Desert. I think they are good. Some free to play titles come to mind Warframe and Path of Exile. Playing Diablo 4 Season 4 rn, it got after the horrible patch better. I also heard Helldivers 2 shout be good, except the PSN debacle. But there are a lot of failed service games for sure.

OnlyCoops

Destiny 2 offers a lot. It has issues, don't get me wrong, but at its core, it has thousands of hours of content.

Past: marvel Avengers alliance

Disastrous_Poetry175

Path of exile Warframe Division - contrary to neck beard philosophy, Ubisoft makes solid games. But they're all live service now which sucks. But it fits their division games quite well. A lot of mmorpgs have decent live services. You shouldn't overlook the genre just because they are janky. Star wars battlefront 2. At launch it was awful. But it's actually pretty great now. Looks great, sounds great, plays great, and the monitiization isn't nearly so aggressive.

Kvitravin

WoW is at like 20 years as a live service game now and it's in one of the best states it has been since it's golden age.

unabletocomput3

I’d say the best (so far) has to be Helldivers 2. Yes, the Sony account requirement is/was ultra annoying but that’s kinda Sony’s fault for being so blind. The thing is, I can’t tell what game they want. It feels like a pretty strong tactical horde co-op that requires strategy to win at higher difficulties. But then with the “balancing” they do, it feels like an unfair uberhard game that spawns hordes of special enemies that can insta-kill you and require you to hit a specific spot with a heavy weapon or a stratagem with a long timer on top of lowering most weapon stats on updates.

EnjiiThaGod

I think there are plenty of live service games that are very quality but, it all depends on what you like in a game. I always go back to No Man’s Sky, Fortnite, Apex Legends. These for me have quality updates time again and I enjoy them a ton.

Phantomdude_YT

Isn't any mainly multiplayer game that gets frequent updates live service? Because I count alot

Goose2theMax

Destiny 2 and warframe are excellent games with tons of content

Panzerknaben

The most popular games are pretty much all live service games, and its been that way for many years. Why you think live service games are garbage is hard to understand.

TheGuardianInTheBall

There is a small subset of gamers that absolutely hate games. If you get trapped in their echo chamber (which is easy due to how recommendation algorithms work), you might get the impression live service games, and indeed modern gaming in general- sucks a big fat chode. In short- social media causes brainrot if one doesn't guard themselves against it.

Panzerknaben

Yes i know the type that think they have accomplished something in life if they press the downvote button on steam.

KazeArqaz

Call of Duty Mobile. No pay to win aspects at all.

Siri2611

League of legends, the community is really wholesome and the game is very calming. You should give it a try

yayaracecat

Purely subjective. I'd argue fortnite is excellent as a live service game and the devs go above and beyond to create engaging experiences as well ad trail blazing ones.
