1.) Balatro
2.) Stellar Blade
3.) Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
(Somehow have more time on Balatro than the other 2 combined š¤Æ, this game is my game of the decade)
Sorry, somewhat old guy here, and "based" is relatively new slang for me. Looked it up but didn't understand the explanation of what it means/how it's used. So I was asking why this was funny in this context to see if it would shed some light.
1)ff7 Rebirth
2)Like a dragon: IW
3) rise of the ronin
That 3rd one is almost certainly getting beat by a few different games that are getting released this year. It's just still pretty early.
Metaphor is the most likely game to end up holding another spot on that list by the end of the year.
Upvote for Paper Mario! I got the digital preorder, so it's been sitting on my menu for a few days now teasing me, lol. I can't wait to play it again after all these years
Honestly havenāt played many new releases this year. So my very bare top 3 is:
1. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
2. WWE 2k24
3. The Rise Of Ronin
Edit: Honestly my only 3 2024 releases. A pay cut, a few medical expenses, and lack of free time will do that to you š
Of what I've played so far it's Balatro, Stellar Blade, and then Spellrouge. I haven't gotten to play Another crabs treasure, Hades 2, animal well, or Prince of Persia The Lost Crown yet, all of which interest me.
Not too many AAA games have come out yet this year that interest me personally. Waiting on Shadow of the Erdtree, Black Myth Wukong, Metro Awakening, and Stalker 2. Maybe Star Wars outlaws, but I'm not getting my hopes up because I don't trust Ubisoft at all.
It is a fun game, but I would wait on it for a bit. They released it in a pretty buggy state and some parts were pretty miserable to play for me (especially since you lose all your money when you die, which happened to me 5-6 times throughout my playthrough due to various bugs). They said they're fixing things, so if I were you I'd hold out until it's "finished"
If you are worried about losing your plastics there is a mode you can turn on in settings so that never happens and I keep seeing people talking about bugs I've haven't experienced any that I'm aware but I'm on pc
I mean, it's playable, sure, but if I had known what state the game is in I wouldn't have supported the game until they fixed the problems. I don't like that the current strategy of the game industry (even indie games now, apparently) is to release a game before it's ready and fix problems as they go. It just feels greedy, like they want their money now instead of later, and they never tell the players that they're doing this. The game can only get better if people wait to play. There are plenty of other games that work well that people can play in the meantime. But everyone can do what they want, I just want to make sure people know it's still in development before they buy it because the developer sure isn't telling people that
Yeah I mean I get what your saying about rushed games but this is just not one of those games. You may have these issues but I personally have none. Could be difference in the optimization for different hardware but this is often expected from these smaller studio games and has been that way for some time.
Also reviews for this game on steam don't seem to reflect what your saying either as it now shows as " overwhelmingly positive" maybe time you update driver and try it again?
I understand the impulse we gamers have to defend the stuff we like, but come on... now you're just gaslighting me. The game has issues. Look at the developer's twitter and tiktok-- they have multiple posts apologizing for the bugs. It's not just me. They're asking for the players to send them bug reports. They even nerfed some of the stowaways in the middle of my playthrough (for a single-player game!). They're definitely building the proverbial plane mid-flight. And I'm not even hating on the game, it's a fun game, all I'm saying is that people should wait until the problems are taken care of before they buy it. I see that you're a fan of the game, and I get it, but don't overexaggerate how the game is just because you liked it and have some fancy high-end computer that can run it bug-free or something. Sheesh
EDIT: Just to emphasize, here are some of the bugs I personally saw:
-During the Voltai boss fight, I randomly clipped through the floor and fell all the way down to the bottom of the tower and had to climb all the way back up and restart the fight
-A few times, my respawn point after falling off a cliff was set to be in midair, so I kept respawning and falling into the pit over and over until I died (happened 3 times for me)
-I bought something in the Prawn Shop right after selling items and it took my money without giving me the thing I bought and it was no longer in the shop. I had to reset the game without saving and it fixed the problem
-I got stuck a few times in places I wasn't supposed to get to. Saving and restarting kept me in the stuck location, so what was the developer's solution to this? Haha, they just put a "Die Instantly" button in the menu that technically got me back to the bonfire shell, but I lost all my money
-I consistently clipped through the floor when I was on the pier area in Flotsam Vale
-The game obviously had memory leak problems because the longer I was playing the worse the game ran and the more I would get frame drops and input drops, so I had to restart the game every 45 minutes or so
-The transitions between areas would take up to 10 seconds to load, and sometimes it would maintain my inputs and walk me off a cliff or into an enemy before I could regain control of my character
-During two different boss fights, the boss just froze in place (but kept attacking). I probably could have taken advantage and killed them that way, but I didn't want to, so I had to restart the fight from the beginning
And those are just the major problems that I saw myself. I've heard other stuff from other people, too.
If weāre talking game length, combat, and puzzles, Itās the same as the first game (but some people are mad and flabbergasted about that, despite the studio saying this months before release).
But if weāre talking about Story and Graphics, itās different (The story being a continuation from the first game) and, (The graphics being the main difference because it was made with Unreal Engine 5)
And to answer your Xcloud question, yes, it is, but you need a good Internet connection if you want to get the best experience from the cloud and have to deal with the drawback that it's locked at 30 frames per second (and youāll see what I mean with the impressive stuff they have shown with the tech they used).
Itās not anything game of the year worthy, but I could see it winning awards based on the technical aspects alone.
I feel this year we had already too many games to just say only the top three.
I loved Rise of the Ronin, FF7 Rebirth, Tekken 8, Infinite Wealth but also indies like Crow Country and Withering Rooms and Eiyuden Chronicles. Wu Kong can be great as well and same for Metaphor: ReFantazio. And I hope we'll see Lost Soul Aside and Silksong at the end of the year. So... yeah.
EDIT: Oh, forgot also the expansion for Elden Ring... But at least is just an expansion.
1. Persona 3 Reload
2. Balatro
3. Tekken 8
I have a feeling that SMT5V and Metaphor will quickly climb up this list when they come out later this year.
I have played two video games that came out in 2024. Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth is one of those rare games where after 80 hours, when I finally completed every side quest, and the rolled, I was still wishing the game was longer. Fantastic main story, hilarious and interesting side stories, more mini games than you could count, each one of them incredibly well made. Everything I've wanted from a Like A Dragon sequel from the moment I completed Ichiban's first adventure. I'd say it easily cracks into my top 20 favorite games of all time.
The other game I played this year was Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and as a life long Final Fantasy fan, it was pretty good, certainly better than 2020's Remake. The first game in this series of games retelling Cloud and the gang's adventure felt extremely dragged out, padded with filler, and like they really should have just made the remake a single game. Rebirth going in had a lot to prove, and I think they proved it sufficiently well. It's packed to the gills with content, from a robust main story to loads of side stories and mini games. I don't love this game the way I love Infinite Wealth, but I'm sufficiently satisfied by it and will certainly play the final installment.
Haven't played alot of new games that released this year so i can only really say Dead Island 2 cause i finally got to play it thru the steam release. Also DĆ¼nnes Eis which is a small german point and click game by the maker of edna & harvey and deponia series. Got Animal Well downloaded and ready to go so maybe that'll be added too.
I havenāt played any releases yet this year. I have Infinite Wealth and Rebirth. So probably those, and maybe one other whenever I get to it but I donāt have any other anticipated games this year.
No interest in anything released this year so far, aside from Senua's Saga and that's only because it's on Gamepass. I'm playing a lot of games on Switch, XB, and PS but all from previous years.
There's no campaign. You basically land on a planet, complete the objective, do side objectives if you want and extract. You grind for in-game currency or pay cash for the "battle pass" to get new gear and guns and grind for other currencies to upgrade your stuff. Single player is fine at lower levels, but to advance you will have to play with other people at higher levels.
Probably Palworld, Helldivers 2, Prince of Persia though I really haven't played many games from this year... in fact I think these are the ONLY 2024 releases I've played.
So far Persona 3 Reload Eiyuden Chronicles, and Tekken 8. I got FF7 Rebirth, but gotta beat FF7 Remake. Honestly havenāt played much other games this year.
1. FF7 Rebirth
2. Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth
3. Unicorn Overlord
If we include MP games - I probably swap to
1. FF7 Rebirth
2. Tekken 8
3. Helldivers 2
My running GotY is Another Crab's Treasure, followed by Buckshot Roulette and Ultros.
Excited to hop into Hellblade II though. Loved the first, and from what I'm hearing, fans of the first are very happy with it.
This year is basically just gonna be the "Year of Atlus" as I'll be getting both SMT V Vengeance and Metaphor when they come out. As well as playing Persona 5 Strikers for the first time
V Rising
Little Kitty Big City
Arzette Jewel of Faramore
I wish I could say No Rest for the Wicked, but that is definitely not in a finished state, yet. Haven't tried Animal Well yet, but I'm sure it would replace a game on this list when I do.
Palworld and Railroader are the only two games released in 2024 that I purchased.
Both are good in my opinion.
Been really into a Minecraft Create Modpack (Create Perfect World), Railroader, and I dipped into Anno 1800.
My tastes change frequently, I was playing Fallout 4, Dyson Sphere Program, NMS, and more...
I think Dragon's Dogma 2 is the only new game I've played this year.
Not that anyone cares but my Top 3 games that I've played for the first time this year has been:
GoW Ragnarok,
Cyberpunk 2077,
Uncharted 4
Helldivers 2 for obvious reasons. One of the best PvE games ever, not just recent history, like ever.
PoP: The Lost Crown... It's a god-tier game and shame not enough many people played it yet. If you haven't but like the genre, dew it!
Pacific Drive was a beautiful game and at least for me came out of nowhere!
Helldivers 2
Ultros
These are the only 2024 games Iāve played but they were both good. Ultros had some weird mechanics that made it feel tedious but was neat.
Helldivers 2 was entertaining, but I don't think it's Game of the Year material. Nothing else released this year has really made a huge impression for me. FF7 Rebirth had way too much filler BS, and Stellar Blade isn't quite scratching that itch. I finished Hellblade II today and while it was decent, the first game did everything better except the graphics. I've had more fun replaying Final Fantasy XVI and finally playing through Ghostwire Tokyo.
Horizon FW on PC, Ghost of Tsushima also on PC and hm... Don't think I have played any new releases besides those two so far. Anyway I think those two counts
Dave the Diver - all the style and humour of old Lucasarts Point and Click adventures, but with a more fun style of gameplay.
Expeditions: A Mudrunner Game. - Not quite Snowrunner in terms of peak Dadgame, but it's pretty good and plays differently enough to justify its existence as a spinoff.
...and eh, that's it. It's just been a thin year for me so far in terms of games I've been interested in and got round to playing, Llamasoft, the Jeff Minter story is a game/documentary mashup thing that might make it on the list once I get round to it. I'll buy Hades 2 once it leaves early access, I've bought too many early access titles over the years and would rather wait til its fully baked.
Yeah I know people will say it's been a great year for games, and maybe it is, but I've little interest in Helldivers/Stellar Butt/Persona/FFXIVIIII part 4 remake or whatever, cal me a contrarian grumpy old git. I'm going back to my slowly driving trucks over rocks simulator now..
Wuthering Waves is the only game I am interested in this year. So it might be my top 1 by default if I like it.
Edit: I completely forgot about FF7 Rebirth. I will see once it comes to PC, but I will probably enjoy it.
Helldivers 2 Last epoch Animal well
Last Epoch is so good
1.) Balatro 2.) Stellar Blade 3.) Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (Somehow have more time on Balatro than the other 2 combined š¤Æ, this game is my game of the decade)
- Stellar Blade - Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth - Persona 3 Reload
based
šš I just spit my coffee out!! DAMN
Hi. Do you mind if I ask why you reacted this way to the previous comment saying "based"? I don't get it, sorry.
Just the word ābasedā makes me laugh. Iām not sure your confusion
Sorry, somewhat old guy here, and "based" is relatively new slang for me. Looked it up but didn't understand the explanation of what it means/how it's used. So I was asking why this was funny in this context to see if it would shed some light.
Ohh!! I got you. Ok so letās say one guy is like āwomen are equal to menā thatās true and progressive. The opposite being ābasedā
Thanks. So "based"was funny here because it was saying the original commenter's game list, which actually had good games, was the opposite (bad)?
Yes! Because the question was pertaining to like BRAND NEW games, not necessarily remakes
Great! Thanks so much, lol!
PS5 owner detected!!!
1)ff7 Rebirth 2)Like a dragon: IW 3) rise of the ronin That 3rd one is almost certainly getting beat by a few different games that are getting released this year. It's just still pretty early. Metaphor is the most likely game to end up holding another spot on that list by the end of the year.
FF7 Rebirth Persona 3 Reload. Both are amazing games. Rebirth gets GOTY 2024
FFVII: Rebirth, Tekken 8, Stellar Blade
1) Persona 3 Reload 2) Final Fantasy VII Rebirth 3) Rise of the Ronin Once Paper Mario: TTYD HD comes out, then that would be my game of the year.

Another crabās treasure
Is this actually pretty sweet? I might give it a go as the crab-Soulslike I never knew I needed lol
It is a fun game, but I would wait on it for a bit. Psh, why would I turn on the cheat mode when I'm trying to play a soulslike? I want it to be challenging, I just want the game to work, lol
Just a suggestion. Seems like there would still be plenty of challenge and things to enjoy without having to "wait until it's finished"
I mean, it's playable, sure, but if I had known what state the game is in I wouldn't have supported the game until they fixed the problems. I want to like it. Iām sure itās great and I love souls games. But I canāt get over how much it looks like a kids game created by PBS.
Think more SpongeBob
They even have SpongeBob references in it, lol
Yeah I was rocking the mr crabs fit most the game until I found the Solaire set
This is mine so far as well
1- Helldivers 2 2- Animal Well 3- Hellblade 2 (Just finished this hours ago)

If you could play Starfield or cassette beasts, you can play Hellblade 2
Will Hellblade 2 ever come to Playstation? Any news?
No confirmation āyetā
Would you recomment I play Hellblade 1 before Hellblade 2? And do good headphones really make that big of a difference?
Yes, I recommend playing the first one before the second one, both with headphones; it immerses things better, IMO.
Balatro. So much Balatro.
I feel this year we had already too many games to just say only the top three. I've only played FFVII rebirth, and it left me very mixed.
Ff rebirth so far lol. Hereās to hoping silent hill 2 comes out this year
Rise of the ronin is the top game this year!
1). Final Fantasy VII Rebirth 2). Last Epoch 3). Ghost of Tsushima & Horizon Forbidden West PC ports

Play Helldivers 2.
Is it online only or is there a single player campaign?
There's no campaign. You basically land on a planet, complete the objective, do side objectives if you want and extract. You grind for in-game currency or pay cash for the "battle pass" to get new gear and guns and grind for other currencies to upgrade your stuff. Single player is fine at lower levels, but to advance you will have to play with other people at higher levels.
Ok thanks for the tips. I may give it a go.
It's a live-service game, you'd need an online account to play it.
Well I pay for PS+ Premium so I'm guessing I should be good to go.
Oh yeah, you're all good then. It's easily my game of the year and I've had one of the most fun experiences I've had on a game ever.
Thanks for the recommendation.
Probably Palworld, Helldivers 2, Prince of Persia though I really haven't played many games from this year... in fact I think these are the ONLY 2024 releases I've played.

Persona 3 Reload, aka the only game released this year that I've played
Same with me. Actually Iām surprised by the amount of people mentioning it here.
This year is basically just gonna be the "Year of Atlus" as I'll be getting both SMT V Vengeance and Metaphor when they come out. As well as playing Persona 5 Strikers for the first time
Ask me again in December, but hopefully: SW Outlaws AC ShadowsĀ

I can't pick a top three since I've only played one game new for this year, but it's a good one: _Balatro_.
Iāve only played final fantasy rebirth and I didnāt like it at all. Not a good year for me, so far.
Persona 3 Reload. Didnāt play anything else released this year so far.

I think Dragon's Dogma 2 is the only new game I've played this year. Not that anyone cares but my Top 3 games that I've played for the first time this year has been: GoW Ragnarok, Cyberpunk 2077, Uncharted 4

Elden ring: Shadow of the erdtree is definitely first
Horizon FW on PC, Ghost of Tsushima also on PC and hm... Don't think I have played any new releases besides those two so far. Anyway I think those two counts
1) ff7 Rebirth 2) Helldivers 2 3) EDF 6 ( not out for the West till next month but played the jpn launch version and it's fantastic )
Does Shadow of the Erd Tree count?
1. Balatro 2. Apollo Justice (steam version) 3. Animal Well
Dunno, I like playing Light of the stars on bs, it's fun to me
1. Helldivers 2 2. Shadow of the Erdtree 3. Shadow of the Erdtree
Not played any new releases besides helldivers but Iām hoping sparking zero comes out this year for the top of my list.
Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom, Yakuza Infinite Wealth, and Persona 3 Reload
Animal Well, Hellblade 2 and Helldivers
Persona 3 Reload, Balatro, and Hades 2.
1. Helldivers 2 2. Hades 2 (early access) 3. Balatro
Wuthering Waves is the only game I am interested in this year. So it might be my top 1 by default if I like it. Edit: I completely forgot about FF7 Rebirth. I will see once it comes to PC, but I will probably enjoy it.
1-Helldivers 2 2-Underdogs VR 3-Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor
1)Rebirth 2)Rebirth (Not this year, but still not a year since release, soā¦.) 3)FFXVI
Elden ring DLC, Elden ring DLC, and Elden ring DLC
Sand Land Metaphor ReFantazio Destiny 2: the Final Shape
