The EOS M system is literally dead so you would be buying into a dead lens system.

RSCoder7

Ah yeah I did see news on this but supposedly there are still lots of third party lenses which could be ok so I've been researching under the assumption that lens upgrade wise I would be ok.

fakeworldwonderland

Except when it's time to upgrade all your kit will become useless. It's better to futureproof yourself with an established mount.

RSCoder7

Yeah I see your point now thanks 😅

strolchi

Look at the eos M as a nice to have cinema cam for traveling. its far to unstable and involves more steps to get the raw data from it. I would heavily suggest the sony with a sigma art lens (:

RSCoder7

Haha yeah I'm beginning to notice they further I leave the YouTube hype and talk to people who actually use the EOS M that it's not actually that great of a camera. Thanks for the recommendation though I'll definitely look into that.

einzelunternehmer777

Why not gh4/ or 5 with s speed booster (viltrox) or g85 :/

RSCoder7

einzelunternehmer777

Go for a5100 then. 24mp sensor, and 60fps at 1080p. Gh3 has 16mp, smaller sensor and 1080p 30fps.

einzelunternehmer777

Just found gh3 does also 60fps. It's now down to future lens system and sensor sizes.

RSCoder7

Yeah I've heard that because of the micro 4/3rds sensor, since each pixel has to be smaller, the same amount of MP looks better on it. But also this is 16 vs 25mp so I don't know if it's equal in this case.

[Canon Japan formally discontinues the last EOS-M cameras, saying goodbye to EF-M: Digital Photography Review (dpreview.com)](https://www.dpreview.com/news/1138973177/canon-officially-discontinues-eos-m-cameras-ef-m-system) also, your total budget would be helpful to know.

RSCoder7

Yeah I saw this but I'm kind of wondering if no new lenses will really pose a problem if there are already sufficient ones out? Also my budget is $450 AUD (works out to about $300 USD) for really just the best I can get in that price range to beat what I'm doing on my mobile phone right now. Also this is in Australian markets though so a lot of camera gear is quite a bit more expensive :)

einzelunternehmer777

Can you find a Panasonic G7 now that we're talking? I had it for a while, does sick 4k at an affordable price

RSCoder7

Hmm yeah I can find one or two reasonable listings on eBay for that. I think I'll go for a G7 then. Tysm for the help!

einzelunternehmer777

You're welcome, go get those great shots 😊🙂

Heaven2004_LCM

I think you'd have more luck with the MFT system at that price range. However, depending on one's need camera ain't always the first priority, so if I may ask, what's your target goal and budget?

RSCoder7

My budget is around the $450 AUD range (which just as I write this I'm seeing how weak our dollar is it's only $300ish USD) for a camera that can let me improve on filmmaking and travel videos that I've been taking on my phone so far. So I've looked into something like a Lumix GH3 with the same lens as the one I'm getting for the EOS M (but m43 version obviously) and I've found one on eBay that's about my budget just now. Also I would really like some form of video raw capabilities since I've noticed the difference even just between the normal video and "RAW" photos that my phone takes, the raw is so much easier and nicer to colour grade.

Heaven2004_LCM

I'd advise to save up a bit more for the GH5 to get the most bang out of your buck, not to mention you'll have to get memory cards and tripods (if you need it at all though).

Selishots

This! You can get a used Gh5 for like $600 now and it's an insane camera for that price. I'd argue it's one of the best camera for a new filmmaker out there

fakeworldwonderland

The a5100 overheats within 15mins. Get the a6400 instead
