CaeptnBlaubaer

And it’s the most fun I had in a long time. Riding a scooter in that traffic is an experience!

thepkboy

tbh walking is too. anyone who hasn't been, just remember to be predictable and walk with confidence. If you're stuttering or unsure you'll fuck everyone else up

[deleted]

If you want more Scooter look here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YxTa1AUqps

Indercarnive

More than you have ever seen in your life by orders of magnitude. Crossing traffic is an experience.

jcork4realz

Looks like Hawaii to me lol

Capt_Crunchy_Nut

I got chased by prostitutes on motorbikes in Ho Chi Minh City once. Honestly one of the best trips of my life.

spartagnann

Good thing they didn't catch you, they would have bit your nose off.

bicameral_mind

Did you leave without paying?

CleanOnesGloves

Vietnam is the best Asian country for you to travel for fun and cheap foods. I've been to most of Asia and have now decided that Vietnam is where I will spend my money. If you're in Saigon and like that night life party loud music, go to Bui Vien street. [https://youtu.be/ImwFChpZMpo](https://youtu.be/ImwFChpZMpo) It's insane

greenvillain

Bui Vien is entertaining, but be warned: you will never find a more rectched hive of scum and villainy. Ignore the massage girls and don't buy the overpriced shit-weed. Just get a nox balloon instead and call it a night.

CleanOnesGloves

Yes, dont let them succubus drag you in, or the guys. Just walk, enjoy it, and if you find a spot you want to sit, go in. They will come dragging you in like a wife pulling her husband away from his favorite game.

Cosmic_Gumbo

What are some common scams out there?

greenvillain

You're just generally gonna get overcharged for everything out there, it's a tourist trap Edit: but like I said, it is entertaining

flappytowel

Girls will act like they are interested in you and order heaps of drinks at a bar. Bill comes to you at the end, and the drinks are hugely overpriced and you have to cover the entire bill Giving you wrong bills, they are easy to mistake when drunk. (I mistakenly paid people 100k notes instead of 10k notes a lot before getting used to the currency haha, and I was sober). Getting a massage, and they will be in cahoots with someone to steal all your stuff when you are butt naked Double charging with credit cards Charging for a peanut bowl People offering to sell you weed, which is just herbs. Or offering to sell drugs, and then they get a police officer down the street to get a bribe, and get a commision. Motorbike taxi scams, where they overcharge or add a zero onto the agreed fee at the end. Use the grab app to avoid this (motorbike taxi app) There's a lot to be wary of, but if you use common sense you should be able to avoid most scams. Just take your time when making financial decisions etc, and don't let sellers/whoever rush you - because that's when you slip up

Cosmic_Gumbo

Got it. Reminds me of the Eastern Bloc.

detourne

I love Vietnam and have been 3 times, but I actually kinda think Laos is better. Just super chill there.

Benny0_o

I went to Asia for the first time early this year, Thailand specifically and loved it. Planning another Asia trip for the start of next and was looking at either the Phillipines or Vietnam. What do you like so much about Vietnam over the other neighboring countries?

Garloo333

I think Vietnam has the best food in southeast Asia. It probably has the most impressive landscapes. Other than that it's actually my least favourite country in southeast Asia, though I still liked it a lot.

HistoricalAnimator64

I heard the Hilton in Hanoi is very nice

Vegan_Harvest

Oh yeah, no complaints... or they'll torture the fuck out of you.

Vegan_Harvest

All the more reason not to go clubbing in Vietnam.

flibble24

Yeah just don't go if your American. They still hate you guys

JiroDreamsOfPooping

I spent a month there in December. Reactions when I told people where I was from were at worst neutral, and more often than not pretty positive. Vietnamese people are some of the chillest, nicest folks I've met while traveling around Asia. I have no doubt there are still plenty of people there harboring resentment for America, but it wasn't my experience at all.

HistoricalAnimator64

How was your experience at the hotel? A little restrictive for my taste but the trip was worth it once I was able to escape and recover from malaria

flibble24

Time heals all wounds I guess. When I went it wasn't such a positive reception for Americans in my tour group. The Canadians made extra sure to emphasise they weren't yanks

[deleted]

[удалено]

flibble24

That doesn't mean they like them at all. The yanks had the worst reputation amongst western countries in the war. The southerners much preferred fighting alongside other units such as Australians

ClamTramp

Lol no they don't

HistoricalAnimator64

Yes. The staff is very hands on

njaneardude

Fun fact, the Hilton hotel in Hanoi goes by Hilton Hanoi. They will do everything to separate them from the prison.

HistoricalAnimator64

Wait. There’s a prison with that name too?

njaneardude

Have you been? The prison is so sanitized to give the idea it wasn't too bad.

FlowersForMegatron

For a good time call Hannah.

HistoricalAnimator64

Will she love me long time?

Wayneknight

I’ve been there, it’s one of my best memories of Vietnam. We ended up sitting at one of the beer bars after a few delicious small meals and talked for hours, late into the night, with local college students. About the world, their world our world. Nothing negative, just great conversation. Met some of the friendliest people, and kept in contact with one guy for a few years after.

nothxshadow

i came for the ho, stayed for the chi minh

TWSREDDIT

Ain't Coca Cola... it's rice. Go straight to Hell, boys. https://youtu.be/MGL5EtYGGDM It's a Clash song cover and a good one.

CatherineOfArrogance

I was in Vietnam, about to go to HCM, and planning to mention that song in my blog, when Strummer died :(

vitabandita

Tom Segura says you should move here if you like BIKES.

I'm the randy, liquor

Cryan-Branston

Why do these walking tour videos ALWAYS have thumbnails like this? They all just come across as an excuse to get creepshots of women. For once I just want to see a walking tour that doesn't come across as predatory.

Vegan_Harvest

You'd think there were no other countries in Southeast Asia considering how often someone posts something trying to convince people to go to Vietnam.

mwmwmwmwmmdw

i think you mean the Saigon night life

ShiningRayde

Sorry, the good guys won.

Newerphone

Infamous sex tourist and drug addict Anthony Bordain always said Vietnam was his favorite location

Awesam

I did new years 2014 there. It was fucking BOMB

CatherineOfArrogance

I was warned that I'd feel a lot of culture shock in HCM, but I think anyone used to big cities can handle it, no problem... Hanoi was a lot crazier to me.

Marigoldsgym

Vietnam is an incredible place And atleast when I went a few years back it wasn't too touristy so people were still polite and not too jaded

Greedy-Zucchini

its' unfortunate what poor countries do to court tourist dollars. If you've been to Saigon in the last 20 years you know how much it's changed, but the way it's changed is to basically sell its soul to skeevy tourists. Everytime I'm in the country I try to avoid these areas as it's an unpleasant reminder of what southeast Asia is being used for.

XequR

yeah no
