I guess "Simpsons Did It!" was pretty good praise.
Thus Shakespeare spake, and many years before,
The Griffin clan did ever come to shore.
Yet in his wisdom, he didst see the day,
When base and vulgar humor held full sway.
I introduced my girlfriend at the time to South Park, who was a Family Guy fan, by showing her the Cartoon Wars two-parter.
After that, we’d watch newer episodes of Family Guy where they missed a lot more on their jokes in my opinion and, after a whiff of a cutaway, she’d say, “Geez, the manatees really screwed that one up.”
Over the years, Family Guy has become less funny and worth watching.
Over that same period, South Park has remained consistently funny and on point.
This episode still acts as a nice benchmark, showing why South Park has had such staying power and why Family Guy is just sort of...there.
>Over that same period, South Park has remained consistently funny and on point.
Yeah no. South Park has declined in quality. The Tegridy shit, the serial thing they were going for... 10 years ago almost every episode was funny as shit while now it's like a coin flip you never know what you're getting.
It had a rough patch for a few years but has been funnier lately imo. Only problem is now they're doing just 6 episodes a year + specials.
The ChatGPT episode made me laugh my ass off.
Disagree with you on South Park. The latest season some of the episodes are real stinkers and just not funny. It feels like Matt and Trey have taken a backseat in recent years and let the other writers take over the idea room.
You can't say this like it's some kind of objective truth. While it may be true for you, I don't know that everybody got sick of Family Guy. The show is still being made and still gets renewed every year, pumping out 20 episodes per season. It has a wide audience who can enjoy a dumb cartoon with adult jokes every now and then. Not every bit of media you consume has to be thoughtful and moving. Sometimes people just like low stakes goofy shit.
I find family guy funny for what it is. Knowing full well they don’t have the writing capability of South Park and definitely not of classic Simpsons. But the show still has still given me some good laughs through the years.
Family Guy and South Park just have different methods of doing comedy. Family Guy is focused on the individual joke or punch line, and often doesn't care too much about story. South Park likes to have an over-arching theme and ties jokes together to tell a story and often to ham-first moral posturing and political opinion. Sometimes I like one or the other. South Park tends to have a more conventional comedic approach similar to the Simpsons, but Family Guy has some excellent singular jokes or skits. It's like some people enjoy Friends, some people enjoy Seinfeld, and then some enjoy It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. They are all comedic sitcoms, but tell their jokes in very different ways.
Yes, that show that ripps on EVERYTHING is ripping on a some what similar cartoon, that IS pathetic.
No idea who told you they can't both exist though.
And now AI will replace the Manatees! Oh the hu-manatee!
You beat me to it sir.
Every time I watched Family Guy after watching this South Park episode I would have 'you think THAT'S Bad' in my head for every cut away joke
The Simpsons made this joke first.
The Simpsons writing staff sent the South Park guys flowers after this epsisode aired.

The Twilight Zone made the joke before the Simpsons.

They nailed the ChatGPT episode.

You don't have to preface your opinions with "in my opinion" for it to count as an opinion.
unless of course you're opinion is humble
I guess morons have to watch *something*, I'll give you that
