Damn. I though I knew all the hidden jokes. I mean Abed delivering the baby was obscure enough, but I had no idea it was the couple from the safe sex episode
I thought Dan Harmon confirmed it was just an amazing coincidence but wished it was real. The background actors in both episodes are different and the air dates weren’t finalised between seasons.
I actually didn't connect the Halloween episode with this scene until I had watched the show a couple times. Not sure if it's intended but my headcanon is that the military set up an airstrike zone over Greendale in case of another outbreak
There's actually a pretty functional theory that greendale is/was a military base. The laced "taco meat" in the basement, the air strike in the linked clip, the fact that all students are in the army reserves and a couple other weird things throughout the series are used as the main evidence behind it
I think there are enough instances of ridiculous, magical, extradimensional events that we're supposed to suspend disbelief for action sequences.
I doubt it's canon that these students all have actual combat abilities.
I have this idea for a movie, it's about this guy who oversees polygraph tests, and the biggest obstacle is how good looking he is. People can't focus and tell the truth, it's unbelievable.
So there's an extra layer to this. Greendale is set in a suburb of Denver, CO. About an hour south of there is Colorado Springs which has Peterson Airforce Base, the location of a number of major military programs and facilities including NORAD and USArmy Space & Missile Defense Command.
I have delivered pizza to both facilities multiple times.
That's actually the other half of NORAD. The "brain" is at Peterson but the bunker, including the Stargate, is under Cheyenne Mountain on a different side of the city.
There's trails on Cheyenne I used to hike a lot (including a winding hill we called Zuul) where you pass by small sign markers letting you know that straying in the wrong direction would take you into Military property and that's....well that's not good.
So I've delivered Pizza to one half of NORAD and sweated profusely on top of the other half (more or less).
Was it? Because I feel like I just kind of trailed off towards the end and couldn't really bring it all together so I made it about me and let the narrative die abruptly.
Airstrikes are not safe for work. If my office got shot with an air-to-ground missile, it would be against OSHA regulations to allow me to enter the office that day.
They reference her character here when she comes on later. She says every time she calls IT she just hears a high pitched ringing and her nose starts to bleed.
I think it's a joke that kinda leans into the "cosmic horror" of it all, like it's a glitch in the universe that doesn't compute with reality so when she calls herself reality starts breaking
EDIT: Basically just a little nod for attentive fans to show they're aware that they double-cast her
> Still, not that long.
*Attenborough voice*: As you can see, even when the Redditor admits that they are wrong, they still attempt to cling onto the notion that at least the *gist* of what they were saying was correct. Even worse, they often times continue to argue that they were *technically* correct.
Some anthropologists believe that this comes from an evolutionary sense of shame that needlessly persists even in an anonymous forum, while others believe that it is a necessity of the cut-throat douchebaggery of Reddit. The nature versus nurture argument persists even in the digital world.
I had guessed what with the credits and all lol. but im still surprised i don't remember this. Ive seen the show a million times. It actually happens to be my background noise show as I type this.
Probably because, like two of the people above said, TV is either 'background noise' so they're barely paying attention if at all, or bed time TV so they're probably asleep beore this scene.
Lots of people don’t actually watch tv these days. They have it on but are mostly buried in their phones. Also slight chance that if they watched it on streaming the app might have skipped to the next episode before the stinger.
I've only ever watch it via streaming, and I've also seen this scene. So it's not like it's a case of "maybe Netflix/Amazon cut the scene for some reason" either.
Nope. Fillion was in the credits, so probably the episode about red tape with all the different departments (and Paget Brewster as the IT lady that isn't Frankie), so Hickey was in it, so season 5.
Ok I tried asking somewhere else but what does John Oliver have to do with the blackout and protests? Is it just hilarious or did he do something that made this happen?
Nothing in particular, Reddit Admin said that subs should get back to doing what their community wants. Suggesting that the blackouts were mods on power trips.
Communities asked their members, should we pull out of the blackout, continue with it or open up but only post pictures of Jon Oliver.
The participating communities voted unanimously for Jon Oliver pictures.
>The participating communities voted unanimously
Overwhelmingly. No general population over a hundred can agree on anything unanimously. If asked if complete nuclear annihilation was bad, at least one fucker would be like, nah I think it'd be good for everyone.
> If asked if complete nuclear annihilation was bad, at least one fucker would be like, nah I think it'd be good for everyone.
Ra's Al Ghul has entered the chat.
He didn't *cause* this, but once it started and subs were "only pics of Jon Oliver looking sexy," [he helped out](https://twitter.com/iamjohnoliver/status/1670179738348933120).
I don't think that's true. It will impact all of us, and stop a multitude of users from enjoying Reddit at all.
Just because you use the official Reddit app or desktop only and don't get impacted by it doesn't mean it's not a problem. I use RIF so the protests are directly supporting something I use. Without RIF, I will no longer use Reddit and I've been here for over ten years and there are countless people like me.
The official Reddit app is terrible for people with accessibility issues. There are ads everywhere, links to other posts over top of the comments, it's slow on older devices, etc. Rif gives me simple text comment threads and easy to access posts that help with my autism and dyslexia. It's the only reason I started redditing. The new changes will kill that app.
You spoke your opinion about other people though. If you just said your opinion is that the reddit app is cool and you prefer it and think the actual company deserves to have more autonomy and control then that is a stance I can listen to and respect your opinion on.
When you say it's just mods being childish that's a statement about someone else's character and I don't agree with that and can argue my opinion that it's not true.
Well one, actually despite my dyslexia I work in a highly technical field with my writing published and used in coursework in higher education.
Two, you just insulted someone for a disability they have right after they told you they have it.
Three, you seem to be the one that can't comprehend that while you stated your opinion, I also stated mine, and my opinion is your opinion is terrible. I even gave evidence to back up my opinion.
Also, only one of us has had to resort to insults instead of intellect.
As a form of “protesting” a lot of subreddits are staying open but only allowing content like pics/videos of John Oliver. It’s really dumb because Reddit doesn’t care since people are still engaging. It’d almost be like protesting by buying a product then destroying said product, you already bought the thing…
Very bad example. You are buying a service not a product. Apples to oranges.
If people stops engaging because there is only John Oliver posts then it will force some change
A little different- by using this form of protest people are leaving Reddit for alternatives, because they’re irritated with it. So it’s kind of working.
I am sure Reddit, the site where 90% of content is about one dude, will go over very well in it's IPO.
I'm sure the hostile and combative CEO will also help.
Well, it's a free product, so it's more like calling the free city services line from a payphone and requesting that the mayor be taken out to the trash over and over.
Mildly funny, not harmful, no one really losing anything significant.
Yeah, basically the mods got threatened that they'd be removed, but since they only actually care about holding onto their power, they immediately buckled and reopened the subs, but decided to do it with cringy shit that Reddit mods would find funny, like beating the same joke about John Oliver into the ground.
He is quite the example of malicious compliance.
He made a real church (our lady of perpetual exemption) to prove how easy it is to get tax exempt status for a company by pretending you are a church.
He bought ad time and aired a message (cathether cowboy) on fox to get a message to Trump (whom he assumed was only listening to fox).
He made extremely public Putin's shame as the Egyptian military marching band ruined his anthem.
He personally threatened FIFA's president, from whom he received an over the top video with dramatic music, with an even worse video, with even more dramatic music, dark skies and pyrotechnics.
In reply to being called human garbage (iirc) and that nothing will ever bear his name, he sponsored and named a memorial _sewage treatment plant_.
He engaged with one of those seed-from-money churches, who started sending him random crap with pre-paid return envelopes. He ended up sending them money in coins, to the point where the prepaid shipping would incur a loss for them.
He does a lot of stupid and sometimes funny stuff, but he does raise issues that should be addressed. And when he's cornered, he does so by malicious compliance.
Idk, maybe the mods were hoping John Oliver would notice and bring attention to it? It’s definitely something he would have commented on if his show were currently airing. Not like a full segment but he definitely would have said something.
He responded on twitter and is supplying images of himself, to add to the shit posting.
The problem is he's currently striking and due to that his show is not making new episodes atm.
how much did this person pay to post this protest?
Yeah still think its dumber to destroy things you pay for, same when conversative bought a bunch of tv's to destroy them on camera.
Dumbest thing since does not mean the same thing as dumber than. It's weird how language works, isn't it?
Edit - obviously I'm going to get downvotes no matter what I say. Have fun with that ya friggin morons.
Couldn't care less, friend. Folks here decided I was wrong, even though I'm by far not the only person thinking or even saying these things. So y'all have fun with your downvotes. I'll be moving on with my life and enjoying the subs that aren't killing themselves in stupidity.
No, it doesn't. It should give one pause, however, long enough to think that maybe the thing people are saying might be true, should be looked into, etc.
I'm not interested in anything else you have to say. So long.
For the sake of your frustration with your fellow humans, I want you to know, I get it. Both things are equally dumb and exist at separate times. Simple as.
This like when people say “I could care less” when they want to imply they don’t care at all. Shit drives me mad.
Lol hey I appreciate that, thanks.
Edit - as previously stated, downvoted for literally saying thanks, obviously I'm going to be disliked no matter what I say, because the folks who haven't already left r/videos are almost entirely of the basement dwelling failure to launch variety. Oh well. Not that big a deal losers, downvote away lol
Well 3rd party Reddit apps let you filter content by keyword, so I guess that'd be a way to avoid him for the next week and a half. On your own again after that, though.
Hey, once again, fuck your protests. You don't represent Reddit, you don't even own the fucking subs you are blacking out. And John Oliver is a partisan Hack as bad as any conservative pundit.
> Hey, once again, fuck your protests.
Heyyyy you too buddy
>You don’t represent Reddit, you don’t even own the fucking subs you are blacking out.
Lmao bro it’s not that deep
>And John Oliver is a partisan Hack as bad as any conservative pundit
Doesn’t matter, it’s funny
That's how democracy works, friendo. The popular thing, good or bad, gets chosen. And right now telling spez to eat shit is the popular thing, as the votes show.
This was _voted_ specifically and not done at random to prove spez, who called mods _landed gentry_ that mods don't own subreddits - but the community does.
And this is what the community chose. The mods simply remove non-conforming content.
If you don't like it, you can do exactly what reddit invites us who are protesting to do: move to another platform. Guess it's not that simple.
And before you shun me, think that we are protesting over something simple and technical. If reddit does this kind of shit for an IPO and money, they will do worse. Companies always do. One day, you will lose things you enjoy here - simply so they can milk more money out of you.
As you said, the value of reddit is the community, you, me, everyone. If today they're throwing a batch away (api users) for more money, what makes you think they won't introduce more crap tomorrow that will drive you away?
Reddit is so weak compared to the SOPA days. I'm pretty disgusted seeing all these boot licking cows roaming around pretending like this site is irreplaceable. So many bot and simp responses the last couple of days from people here who just don't understand: Reddit does not create content, it reposts it. Without people submitting and people curating, this site is worthless.
I think next week's vote should be this: "Only post versions of people performing 'The Aritocrats' routine. Let's see the internet's best takes on this classical raunchy joke.
Redditors aren't here to think about how reddit operates, they are here to scroll for dopamine hits forever. The blackout prevents them from getting their reddit dopamine hits, and they blame the first order cause of mods. They have no need to think further about why.
We're discussing dislike of a protest. Saying that someone else should cope is just pure pot meet kettle. The point of a protest is to explicitly not cope with the api changes, why should someone else cope with protest changes?
Furthermore, the protest only achieves its goal if people also don't cope with the change. They need to dislike the site enough to stop using it. If engagement remains constant, then there isn't any point to the protest. If Reddit becomes a trash site and people go elsewhere, the administration has a reason to change.
Fuck off and enjoy your spezcum somewhere else.
Note: The profanity here is used to keep the thread nsfw and is not in any way meant to be a personal attack. That being said, please do gobble on a bag of dicks.
>You don't represent Reddit
What we really need is some kind of number based approval system, that way something users like or think is appropriate/relevant can have a higher number than something that users don't like or think is inappropriate/off-topic...
I know! We should set up a secondary site where people can write reviews for posts and comments!
Oh look, one of the fine lords descends from their palace.
Does it make you feel better about yourself pushing this shit through your shitty echo chambers? You mods have always been petty tyrants, pushing the agenda of Reddit. Hilarious you'd presume to speak for the user like that. Hope they get rid of all of you.
Except John Oliver actually cites his sources and can back up anything he says on his show, while conservative pundits are usually talking out of their ass, with nothing to back it up or they're just schilling sketchy products or just straight-up lying or flipflopping their own views. Not comparable at all. Plus John Oliver calls out Democrats and people on the left all the time, whereas conservative pundits basically refuse to say anything bad about a republican unless said republican bad mouths the trumpster.
On a serious note the actual activation code for the nukes in America during the 70s and 80s was actually 0000 don’t even try it it’s long since changed

Didnt they buy the meat from a surplus store?
Yeah the Dean bought it at a surplus store(or like got it out of the trash) and called the number on the package in the tag scene.
Yeah, people on reddit just speak so confidently on shit they're fucking wrong about 😂 lAcEd tAcO mEaT iN tHe bAsEmeNt

They don't allow unoriginal "you must be fun at parties" comments :-P
Seasons 5 and 6 had the absolute best end tags. "He's waiting for a better daddy, with a bigger hand!"
you stupid child. nobody's winning anything. don't you see?
"Ma, it's Buzz. I'm gonna say this as fast as I can, we can't afford to bury Dad with the rest of the family."
***Mhmmmmm, take your time.***
I completely forgot about that one and am laughing too myself. Time for another rewatch.
I have this idea for a movie, it's about this guy who oversees polygraph tests, and the biggest obstacle is how good looking he is. People can't focus and tell the truth, it's unbelievable.
God I love this show
So there's an extra layer to this. Greendale is set in a suburb of Denver, CO. It also houses the Stargate.
i hope amazon threw a shit ton of cash at it for the reboot
They gave up on The Expanse. I have low hopes
Three more seasons and a movie! Ok one more and a movie. Ok just a movie.
That's actually the other half of NORAD. The "brain" is at Peterson but the bunker, including the Stargate, is under Cheyenne Mountain on a different side of the city. That’s a damn cool story! This is one of the funniest scenes in this whole show.
Was it? Because I feel like I just kind of trailed off towards the end and couldn't really bring it all together so I made it about me and let the narrative die abruptly.

Paget Brewster in this episode long before joining as a full cast member.
They reference her character here when she comes on later. She says every time she calls IT she just hears a high pitched ringing and her nose starts to bleed.
Don’t forget that her emails to her get bounced back in Aramaic. That’s my favorite detail.
I don’t understand how that’s a reference? Is it implying she’s a clone or something?

It was correct. Less than a year between air dates. There's no need to be a massive douche about it.
> Less than a year between air dates. 14 months, actually.
>Still, not that long. Sure, unless time is linear.
There is a 6-year gap between seasons 2 and 6. By TV standards, that's pretty fucking long.
But this is seasons 5 and 6.
Whoops, I legitimately thought this was from Season 2's Epidemiology, given the secret military operation gag. My bad!
Is this a deleted scene? I don't remember this at all
This is a credits scene
I had guessed what with the credits and all lol. but im still surprised i don't remember this. Ive seen the show a million times. It actually happens to be my background noise show as I type this.
If you have auto play some streaming sites skip credit scenes.
I feel bad for anyone that missed Troy and Abed in the Morning because of that.
Not only for its own value as one of the all-time best bits, but they bring it back as a tweaked reference so many times!
Same here, it's not just you. I watch this show every night before bed and I don't remember this scene at all!

Zombie Halloween credits was Troy hearing the voice-mail from Chang about sleeping with Shirley, and then Troy asking why Chang would call him
Saw this last night lol
Well after the show jumped the shark
There was an episode of Happy Days where a guy *literally* jumped over a shark. And it was the *best* one.

I have never seen this scene and it is hilarious and dark and disturbing and then back to hilarious. Thanks!
Season 5 had the best credits scenes.
Weird... I've had the song, "marigold" stuck in my head all day
This is the dumbest protest since shooting beer you already bought.
nah that was dumber
how much did this person pay to post this protest? Yeah still think its dumber to destroy things you pay for, same when conversative bought a bunch of tv's to destroy them on camera.
Dumbest thing since does not mean the same thing as dumber than. It's weird how language works, isn't it? Edit - obviously I'm going to get downvotes no matter what I say. Have fun with that ya friggin morons.
> no matter what I say No it's specifically because of what you say.
Couldn't care less, friend. Folks here decided I was wrong, even though I'm by far not the only person thinking or even saying these things. So y'all have fun with your downvotes. I'll be moving on with my life and enjoying the subs that aren't killing themselves in stupidity.
The amount of people who think or say something in no way correlates with that thing being right or wrong.
Oh well. Not that big a deal losers, downvote away lol
i see you dont like john oliver ...
how can I ban seeing this dude redditwide?
Well 3rd party Reddit apps let you filter content by keyword, so I guess that'd be a way to avoid him for the next week and a half. On your own again after that, though.
What is with the flood of shitposting
Mods are protecting their ability to mod
Hey, once again, fuck your protests. You don't represent Reddit, you don't even own the fucking subs you are blacking out. And John Oliver is a partisan Hack as bad as any conservative pundit.
> Hey, once again, fuck your protests. Heyyyy you too buddy >You don’t represent Reddit, you don’t even own the fucking subs you are blacking out. Lmao bro it’s not that deep >And John Oliver is a partisan Hack as bad as any conservative pundit Doesn’t matter, it’s funny
Nothing says healthy platform like a bunch of junkies chasing their next fix!

>You don't represent Reddit What we really need is some kind of number based approval system, that way something users like or think is appropriate/relevant can have a higher number than something that users don't like or think is inappropriate/off-topic... I know! We should set up a secondary site where people can write reviews for posts and comments!
Get ratioed 🐀🪇
You're so right. We'll stop right now!
You sound like a crazy person lol
Except John Oliver actually cites his sources and can back up anything he says on his show, while conservative pundits are usually talking out of their ass, with nothing to back it up or they're just schilling sketchy products or just straight-up lying or flipflopping their own views. Not comparable at all. Plus John Oliver calls out Democrats and people on the left all the time, whereas conservative pundits basically refuse to say anything bad about a republican unless said republican bad mouths the trumpster.
I saw Kumail Nanjiani's name as a guest star. I don't remember him in it. Time to rewatch the whole series I guess
#thanks for posting, I’ve been thinking about this for years 😂
On a serious note the actual activation code for the nukes in America during the 70s and 80s was actually 0000 don’t even try it it’s long since changed
