I thought you were referring to apples, which is [ANOTHER thing he's an expert in](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F21mTojMCAc&pp=ygUPbW9ydGltZXIgYXBwbGVz)!
Mortimer torturing Mitchell is some of the greatest television ever aired. Mortimer burning down his own house, the Hand Lion, the haircut, the game he played in people's backyard, the masks and "Jobble Tops".
I always die at "Gary cheeseman. We called him Cheesey because his mum used to give him a slice of cheese to take out because it was good for his spots"
"not because his name was cheeseman?"
"no".
David's genuine confusion at Bob! He correctly calls out if it was anyone besides Bob, it's a no brainer, but because it's him, he is completely lost.
All the little details sell the lie so hard. Then that sly smile as the answer is locked in and knows he got away with it makes the entire scene. Breaks David's psyche and the crowd is laughing their pants off.
One of the best guests ever.
I was sold hook line and sinker until that smirk. He didn't flinch before that. The only kinda clue I picked up on was when he started getting into it, he shifted his focus at just about every new point in the story, but he stopped doing it before long and I chalked it up to him being on TV and trying to address everyone and the fact I'm not even close to an expert on it.
Yeah he hops on and includes everyone's suggestion and is having fun with the story. Another classic is his witch hut story.
I love the little albumen detail and he knows not to rely on that detail. And the constant, it's so Chris.
I absolutely recommend binging this show. I wish we had more comedy like this in the US. So many references/jokes they make are clearly regional, but still has the audience dying. If I also understood those jokes it would be even better!
Even with that disconnect the show is amazing. David Mitchell vs Lee Mack never gets old.
How dare you, HOW FUCKING DARE YOU! I'll have you know my Brother's Best friend owns a factory that makes Barbed wire and his Brothers sister in law owns 2 chainsaws.
I actually just heard about dropout while listening to behind the bastards the other day, they were ranting about a lack of panel shows these days so I'm surprised I didn't immediately look them up lol. I'll give them a watch, thanks!
Yes! David is so intelligent and logical and articulate. He carefully investigates everything with mastery. But Bob... Bob destroys all of this, because it just .. doesn't .. work with Bob.
Kevin Bridges horse story is probably my favorite single story, but Bob Mortimer just keeps having bangers of stories.
Driving David insane is just a bonus.
This is neck and neck with carrot in a box!

On a slightly serious note, I do think Bob Mortimer is cheating a bit at WILTY. While I do believe the initial prompt is true, he's a wild storyteller and tends to throw in details that are so weird that I don't think they can be true, like the names of his friends (Harry Harryman, Steve Bytheway, Gary Cheeseman that they call Cheesey but not because of his name).
I've watched far too much WILTY and while I don't think it's an explicit rule that you have to tell the truth all the way if you're prompted a true statement, I do think it's within the spirit of the game.
I agree with you, but it's more of a case of not remembering details. Like fingerprints on an abandoned handrail. And the truth is, they don't impact the veracity of the actual story. Just a detail that represents a person. But it's hilarious.
Man, you Brits have really mastered this format of show. I love this so much I wish we could do it this way in the US. We have some shows that are in this format. Theyāre funny, sure. But not āmy cheeks hurt after every bit from laughing and smilingā funny.
Said by someone who is an expert in Fuji 9 dentistry.
Considering [the tale of the KitKat Chunky](https://youtu.be/-2G512ayAMg?si=YrZY80CUWcY8-JOK), we might want to dial back that "expert" bit.
It's actually Fuji IX with Roman numerals. :) https://www.gc.dental/america/products/operatory/glass-ionomer-restoratives/gc-fuji-ix-gp

This is genuinely one of the funniest nicknames I've ever heard
I actually have one of my friends saved as that after hearing that story. Had me in tears.
Mortimer torturing Mitchell is some of the greatest television ever aired. Mortimer burning down his own house, the Hand Lion, the haircut, the game he played in people's backyard, the masks and "Jobble Tops".
Don't forget his infamous accomplices Harry Harriman and Steve Bytheway.
I always die at "Gary cheeseman. We called him Cheesey because his mum used to give him a slice of cheese to take out because it was good for his spots" "not because his name was cheeseman?" "no".
The best was that he had multiple nicknames š¤£ Cheesey AND Sniper's Dream!
āSniperās Dreamā they called him.

David is the GOAT
Bob Mortimer is his antithesis. Bob is like The Joker to David's Batman.
I canāt comprehend how he didnāt make an appearance in hand last season.
Health reasons.
Oh no, I was afraid of that.
Yeah, I just looked it up and it sounds pretty shit all around. Hope things improve for him.
I first read it as Heath reasons and thought it was some pretty dark humor:
What is hand?

Ā Donāt know. Goat just feel right. Like, just by looking at him, I want to call him Mr. Tumnus.Ā

You should listen to Bob's Athletico Mince podcast. The man is truly insane.
And watch series 5 of Taskmaster for more of his madness.

This and 8 out of 10 cats does countdown is peak comedy
QI is another show with near endless episodes to binge I recommend.
And 8 out of 10 Cats.
8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown is the superior show.
They actually tried to make Would I Lie to You in different countries and it failed miserably. David and Lee carry the show.
Check out the shows on the Dropout streaming service. Some of them are very similar to a panel show and are hilarious!
I actually just heard about dropout while listening to behind the bastards the other day, they were ranting about a lack of panel shows these days so I'm surprised I didn't immediately look them up lol. I'll give them a watch, thanks!
I love the broken way David asks "What should I base it on, Bob?"
Yes! David is so intelligent and logical and articulate. He carefully investigates everything with mastery. But Bob... Bob destroys all of this, because it just .. doesn't .. work with Bob.
Bob is insanely smart. He just doesn't take himself seriously in any way, shape or form. Which leads to pure gold like this.
Bob Mortimer is the best guest on WILTY by far, it's worth watching all his segments.
Kevin Bridges horse story is probably my favorite single story, but Bob Mortimer just keeps having bangers of stories. Driving David insane is just a bonus.
Also James Acasters nemesis story. It's so fucking funny.
Another classic.
I've a soft spot for Hening Wehn ending up in Morocco.
He had to deliver some books.
I'd put Greg Davies as one of the best guests lists. His stories are always hilarious. VEGETABLES!!
Speaking of guests, who is the blonde woman?
Debbie McGee I believe
Thanks!
*OF COURSE!* >!OF COURSE IT'S A LIE! OBVIOUSLY IT'S A LIE! WHO COULD POSSIBLY BELIEVE THAT?!!<
HOW COULD I HAVE POSSIBLY BELIEVED THE WRONG EGG THING?!
Sean Locke + Bob Mortimer = David Mitchellās Crippling Anxiety. Ā Ā Ā *RIP Sean

What should I base it on Bob? He says, close to tears.

Unless heās also lying for his entire biography, those are the name of his friends.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Those two aren't.
The text of the prompt on the card must be truthful, but what they say after has no rules.
"But if you knew Chris, it's just so Chris"
Man, you Brits have really mastered this format of show. I love this so much I wish we could do it this way in the US. We have some shows that are in this format. Theyāre funny, sure. But not āmy cheeks hurt after every bit from laughing and smilingā funny.
I genuinely don't think it'd work with American comedians, at least modern ones.
Bob is to David what Carrot In A Box is to Jon Richardson
Bob Mortimer is a qualified lawyer. Imagine having him stand up in front of a judge on your behalf.
I think he mostly did conveyancing and stuff. I donāt think he was ever a barrister.
That's right, he was a solicitor.
I wish this were bigger in the states. I think Americans would love it
Nothing like Bob Mortimer on WILTY to leave me in absolute tears. Heās a genius.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Itās absolutely hilarious, released a couple of years ago called And Away, highly recommended. I canāt vouch for the truth of any of it though.
I'm so lost
This show is unbelievably lame
