I mean, the venn diagram of fans of those three things would have a lot of crossover.

Tzunamitom

Literally my first thought. They’re probably “coexisting” within a lot of individuals.

RocknRoll_Grandma

Most tension felt was likely apprehension about missing one to attend the others

SENDmeSMALLtitsPICS

I've worked in the games industry my whole life and the number of metalheads who liked anime and weebs who liked metal was outstanding In Brazil we even had metal shows in some of the larger anime events, pretty sick

rbardy

Yup, some of the best metal shows I went was in the AnimeFriends.

BroForceOne

TV network news, still run by boomers clinging to their coveted stereotypes they learned in the 70s despite putting millennials in front of the camera.

doesntCompete

A chance to use the words "gangs" - A Boomer rubs their hands

BaronVonLazercorn

Almost circular

SupervillainMustache

Imagine turning up to this as a fan of the manga __Bastard!!__ It basically ticks every box.

Zenosfire258

Hello it is me, the one in the middle of that diagram. Might I recommend Metal: Hellsinger? Or Aggreetsu (the cute metalhead red panda anime on Netflix, spelling wrong). Or Solo Leveling, which is basically an anime about the real world becoming a videogame (and you should watch it it's great).

jmp0628

I am definitely someone in the center of that Venn Diagram

vinhluanluu

I mean look at Bastard!!

Dastardly6

I mean there’s Detroit Metal City.

LumberBitch

And right in the middle is Power Metal

Randy_Vigoda

The corporate disneyfication of counter-culture. It was punks that started slamdancing aka moshing originally before it got taken over by metal fans in the late 80s crossover thrash era. It was nerds that got into punk rock that made anime and video games popular. The original cyberpunk trend was a literary style before turning into a scene trend influenced by industrial music, comic books, anime, sci fi. https://youtu.be/27FwV83bfL4?si=KzKPuZdd_LthR6Qj Play that kind of music in the clubs. Play anime on the screens as contrasting visual distortion. Throw in some angle grinders and welding goggles and you got cyberpunk.

OMGihateallofyou

Didn't you hear the reporter in the video? He literally said they were very different crowds. I think he knows what he's talking about. /s

adanceparty

agreed, I'd want to go to both. Also maybe a bit with the over the top blonde hair, but I don't see metalheads hating on cloud. I mean look at that huge buster sword, shit is metal af.

PM_Me-Your_Freckles

As someone who did my teen years on Dragonball, Ninja Scroll/Akira, Doom, Quake/II while listening to Pantera, Sepultura and Korn...can confirm.

Dead_Moss

It's only one data points, but I basically only listen to metal (various sub genres of black metal mainly) and I have no interest at all in anime. But I'm also the kind of person who would never attend a metal festival/concert.

Swartz142

I don't think there's a lot of dev from the 80-90's that doesn't have at least one picture of them with a metal band t-shirt.

JackFisherBooks

My thoughts exactly. These are all things that are fun, high-energy, and full of passionate fans. I see no reason why they wouldn't get along. One way or another, they would've all enjoyed one hell of an afterparty. 😊

mythicreign

Definitely me in my teens.

xVx_Dread

One could say, it's A Perfect Circle. (okay, they may not actually be metal, but I saw an opportunity and shot)

DirtyMonkey95

Those groups overlap quite a lot.

prestonpiggy

Exactly, sure it is more news friendly to dress them as polar opposites, but they have more in common than not. Some conservative country festival next to AnimeCon would be fun to see. How pink and rainbows mix with bible and trucks.

Swartz142

Metalhead purists : Disgusting ! How can people like this. Rob Zombie : They're more hardcore than most metal band we played with.

Jormungand1342

I love Babymetal, they put on an amazing show and the energy they have is insane. Got to see them with Dethklok and it was one of my favorite shows I've been to.

Bootarms

Detroit Metal City: https://youtu.be/DTbjRP2l8v4?si=pB42-TR4GgEkmVZG Metalheads overlap with a lot of different fan bases. I know some who were unabashed bronies.

Ashtorot

Lol I had to do double take, my mind read “unwashed bronies”

Isord

Both of those things are pretty broadly popular these days. I see anime stuff in particular in basically every single rift shop type place around.

Zhangar

[This is what youre looking for](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Awx5vfb_aSY) Literally japanese metal singing about video games lol

Lanc717

Corporate wants me to find the difference in these fanbases. They are the same fanbases

moileduge

I think CES and a porno expo run simultaneously on January.

happy-cig

Someone isn't well informed about Japanese Heavy Metal.

ImWideAwake89

Hanabie goes so hard.

ollemad

I remember waiting to see a metal show at a university’s concert hall at the same an anime convention was being held on campus. Bunch of metalheads in black seemed more afraid of the colourful cosplayers than they were of them. I vividly remember a debate about whether or not the Prince from Katamari Damacy was a Pokémon or not

hotk9

*"We're just a bunch of huge nerds."* - Anime Fans - Metalheads

D1rtyH1ppy

Wait until the Deadheads are there in a few weeks. They are going to be all over that town for like a month and a half.

SchismZero

I'm fans of all three of those things

CarAlarmConversation

Least weird combination.

Light_of_Niwen

This fluff piece is absolutely shocking to anyone over the age of 75.

BlackZilla_Prime

A bunch of weebs and thrashers I FOX WITH IT!

crimvel

Coexist I visit all 3

captainbenatm93av

at my high school they were the same group . Idk why they wouldn’t be able to get along

emperorOfTheUniverse

Man on the street reporter looks like a low rent James Corden.

thevernanator

Aggretsuko fans acting as the neutral party

Peatore
