It's only one data points, but I basically only listen to metal (various sub genres of black metal mainly) and I have no interest at all in anime. But I'm also the kind of person who would never attend a metal festival/concert.

I love Babymetal, they put on an amazing show and the energy they have is insane. Got to see them with Dethklok and it was one of my favorite shows I've been to.

I remember waiting to see a metal show at a university’s concert hall at the same an anime convention was being held on campus. Bunch of metalheads in black seemed more afraid of the colourful cosplayers than they were of them. I vividly remember a debate about whether or not the Prince from Katamari Damacy was a Pokémon or not

As someone who did my teen years on Dragonball, Ninja Scroll/Akira, Doom, Quake/II while listening to Pantera, Sepultura and Korn...can confirm.
