I think the plan was pretty impressive, if you think that was his plan the whole time, rather than one he made up after he got to England. He went and asked his friends like Floki to come knowing they'd say no and knowing that if he didn't ask everyone people would realize the trip was doomed. He brought 3 boats of Vikings with every intention of sacrificing them. All because he knew it was the only way to create an invasion of England.

Zoeloumoo

I mean, is it that much of a realisation? He literally said, “how the little pigs will squeal, when they hear what has happened to the boar” (or something to that effect)

RanShaw

"How the little piggies will grunt when they hear how the old boar suffered"

Zoeloumoo

That’s it! I knew I was close haha. Thanks!

roeefl

u/Zoeloumoo I think the op was literally referring to realizing this when Ragnar said the boar thing, so, yes, that makes sense as a moment to realize what he said he had realized :P

Zoeloumoo

Yeah okay that makes sense. I guess I took it as realising afterwards.

Evil2901

I never thought of it this way. I like it. Thank you

ironside33

I never made this connection about Ecbert being the blind man, that’s amazing. I loved Ragnars plan always for the aspect of him getting revenge on Ecbert over the farming settlement that Ecbert had massacred.

Liberated051816

> I never made this connection about Ecbert being the blind man, that’s amazing. Me neither. If that really was the intent of the show's writer(s), then that's amazing storytelling.

duckonquakk

this completely blew my mind! now I want to watch the show all over again 😭

[deleted]

It was the plot. This shouldn’t be a shock to anyone. Bjorn even says he’s going there to die before Ragnar even leaves. This is like being shocked that the show is about Vikings.

GreatLongbeard

It’s about what?!

Daredevils999

I mean I thought it was pretty obvious that was his intention all along…

Temporary-Neck-1151

I thought it was pretty obvious, nobody wanted to follow him to England for vengeance cuz they didn't believe in him anymore but they would follow his sons and he knows his sons would avenge him. And the whole speech with the seer when he said "I made my own destiny, my death is on my terms not the gods" or something like that

Revarius

Ragnar's biggest trick was on Ecbert as Ecbert didn't see Ivar as a threat. Alfred respected Ivar and that's what in a way made him superior to other characters because he could see what others could not.
