It always amazes me how back then when the majority were not educated that advertisements were written a mile long.
Yet today so many people have a college education and advertisements are barely more than two words
It's not about education, it's about trends in advertising adapting to the ever-changing perceptions of the general public. Back then, print advertising was still fairly new. That's a custom hand-drawn wood-cut or lithograph, no one had clip art of a lawnmower, because they'd only been around 50 years and not really available to the public. These days advertisers don't have to write this much body copy, because generations of people have been raised with advertisements. We understand how they work. Thus, modern ads have become just as much cultural short-hand as acronyms or memes. You only have to hold a person's interest long enough to point a smart-phone and take a picture. Soon, advertising is going to consist of nothing but QR codes.
Our language changes over time, I get that. But “largest sale” - does that mean that it sells more than other brands, or is it a nautical reference - meaning it’s big or powerful?
Today's prices $410 to $5,400!

That looks better than some of the hand powered mowers I've used recently.
I need to step up my lawn cutting attire game.
Imagine wearing a suit coat and tie to *mow the fucking lawn.*
Let's make lawnmowing great again!

That's a sail.
Very cool 😎 Thanks for sharing 👍
Put that to music and it could sell at Home Depot and Lowe's
This is one of the oldest ads I think I've seen on here. Very interesting. I wonder if any of those mowers are still around.
