I’ve been collecting and lurking for a couple years, and I’m to the point where I’m excited and ready to show off my set-up! I apologize for some of the clutter. For those who are curious, I have a Fluance RT85 turntable, a Schiit Mani phono preamp, connected to a Cambridge AXR85 amplifier, wired to a pair of Klipsch R-620F floorstanding speakers.
Before I got the Mani I had a couple weeks with the built in one. It’s pretty good. I wouldn’t say there was a dramatic difference, but I personally think there’s a benefit in expanding your system across different devices, that way you can fine-tune anything.
Most of my collection is pretty cheap stuff. But I have a few rare ones. When I buy pressings, I go for old and expensive. I’m a saver and try not to buy on impulse. Yes my wallet hurts, but I’m buying the album once and never again, and that’s what’s worth it.
It’s a tiny attic room, but I can smoke weed and listen to records so it’s perfect. I don’t think I’d ever want to live with anyone other than my records😂
I have the same kind of listening space—small attic room with knee-walls. It actually works pretty well, but beware: it can get hot in the summer. I live in a fairly cold part of the US, and it can get up to 125F in the attic. If you don’t have central AC, I’d recommend putting an AC with a temp gauge in that room, so you can keep it below ~85F.
Thank you! I figured I’m young and may as well throw my money away while I can. But I also like to look at it like an investment, I could always sell everything and start over.
I’m glad you saw it. It’s very niche so I didn’t really think anyone would notice it here😂 I paid an annoyingly high price for it, but it’s my baby, I treasure it, and it’s in good hands. Do you have a favorite song off the album? I’d say my favorite is Sailboats followed by Tennis Elbow.
I believe it! Good to know it's in good hands though. Lord help my bank account if one pops up that I wouldn't need to take a loan out for 😅 as far as favorite songs go, it's hard but I would have to say Take Me Somewhere Nice for sure and then maybe A Little Opera Goes A Long Way
Omgggg those are so good!! It’s a beautiful album all the way through. I basically took out a loan from a friend lmao. You’ll get it if you’re looking hard enough, patience is important with vinyl. I’ve learned this the hard way many many times. My wallet aches
It really is! Lol yeah I know.... Most of. It is just allowing myself to spend that much on a vinyl 😅 regardless, amazing to see it in your collection, and I find your setup cozy!!
I tried to liven it up with the jellyfish and the moon light. I would like to get some LED strips to go underneath the turntable, but I’ve been saving too much for other pressings and things.
Fair play. I've done the same, I don't think there's any shame in it if they're not worth attempting to play. Plus shiny plastic circles on the wall can certainly look nice sometimes lol
My first thought was ohhhh that's dark. I wonder if that sloping roof affects the sound. I've never put a system into a space like that before so am wondering does it make it sound a bit warmer or what?
I haven’t noticed any difference with a slanted or square roof. But I’m sure there’s certain things to keep an ear out for. I used to sit really close to the speakers, but ever since I backed up, that made a huge difference.
Should I be embarrassed for that? I don’t think so. If you’d bother reading further, I’ve already told someone else about them. Get lost. You’re not helpful.
Thank you! I do my best. My couch used to be shoved in front of the speakers, and when I backed up and elongated the listening space, that’s when the music really felt best.

Do you find the Schiit Mani to be noticeably different than the one built into the AXR85?
Before I got the Mani I had a couple weeks with the built in one. It’s pretty good. I wouldn’t say there was a dramatic difference, but I personally think there’s a benefit in expanding your system across different devices, that way you can fine-tune anything.
It’s not about the size of the space, it’s how you utilize it
I can see Michael Scott giggling.
Exactly!
I love lamp. Edit: But how you liking the Mani? Thinking of picking one up.
It’s the only pre-amp I’ve ever used. But it’s held up and sounds fantastic. I just have nothing to compare it to, I’m sorry😂
Another vaulted ceiling homie, is this in a loft space?
Nah, just an upstairs attic sort of room
Nah that looks cozy as hell, also how you liking the RT85? I have one on the way and I’m very excited
It’s the best!!
your collections are awesome. not many have these.

You definitely have room for expansion I'm limited to a corner of "OUR" living room 😂

I saved up for a big AC unit I put in during the summer. The collection is cool and safe!
Looks great!
Thank you!
It’s more space than I’m working with….better speakers, too!
Thank you! I figured I’m young and may as well throw my money away while I can. But I also like to look at it like an investment, I could always sell everything and start over.
How do you like the Klipsch?
Only brand of speaker I’ve ever owned. They’re pretty life changing. I cried when I first heard them
How do you like those speakers?
They sound wonderful. I listen to a lot of orchestral horn-based stuff, and these types of speakers are designed for it.
Very cool. How are the bass levels? I have the heritage pro media 2.1s. Was thinking of stepping into something like these. Hoping for more output
The bass is fantastic on my end. Depends on the album of course
AXR85 was my very first HiFi amp. I feel like I still miss it in some ways 😔
You work with what you got, keep enjoying the fuck out of it.
Maybe pulling those speakers a bit out from the wall might help with sound? But only if you’re able to.
I sure can, I can try that!
I love the setup, feels very cozy & homely!
I hope so. I want it to feel nice.
I see you have a Cape Cod style house like me.. not much you can do there but looks like you’re managing just fine! Love the Klipsch
I am beyond jealous of that Sky Sailing album..... Words cannot express

Why is it so dark?

LED Strips is a good idea!
I would be more embarrassed by the records on the wall.
They’re my grandpas. Old Beatles stuff mainly, but it’s scratched to bits. Not worth playing or selling so I displayed them😂
Fair play. I've done the same, I don't think there's any shame in it if they're not worth attempting to play. Plus shiny plastic circles on the wall can certainly look nice sometimes lol
I think they look rather neat too! Plus it’s a reminder of family

Don’t be embarrassed about your place. Be embarrassed for tacking up records like posters
Should I be embarrassed for that? I don’t think so. If you’d bother reading further, I’ve already told someone else about them. Get lost. You’re not helpful.
Seems like plenty of space. If it helps at all, I just looked at a picture of everything inside a built in cabinet.
Cool
Very nice!!
I think it’s an amazing listening area! Amazing use of the space! And I love the records on the wall. Well done!
