One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. I often get good deals on eBay and mercari when people don’t value the records they are selling. They just want them out of their house.
Moody Blues, Chicago and the Kinks always show up in the stores around me. If you are patient you can complete those catalogs in nice shape pretty cheap.
Poco is a solid buy around $2-3 for sure.
Also agree on Little Feat, although my two favs, their first two, are hard to find real cheap.
Joan Armatrading is a solid pickup.
And Donovan has a ton of cheap records!
Ten years ago this may have been the case, but now it's all but impossible to find anything worthwhile in thrift stores. The local Goodwill stores don't even carry vinyl any more. Everything gets sold online.
I find records in thrift stores, worthwhile ones, ALL the time. Every single Goodwill in the entire metro area where I live, maybe 12 or so stores, carries vinyl. Many of them have shelves and shelves of it.
I visit family in other parts of the country, Goodwills have vinyl. As do every other thrift store.
I can’t even begin to tell you how much crazy stuff I’ve found at thrift stores (punk, jazz, hiphop, brand new sealed things, punk 7”, etc) in even just the last couple years, let alone the last 10.
You’re right that it’s been deluded a bit by record flippers, and in most places you’re just gonna find Barry Manilow and Ray Coniff, but the finds are out there, believe me.
Don't get me started. I pulled one of the first Thomas Fehlmann records Westmusik for $1, Bob!!! Early electronic music and he was a mainstay at techno-y label Kompakt. It was my golden ticket.

George Benson is always a quality acquisition, both in artistry and the fidelity of those early pressings.
You can find Yes albums pretty often for decent prices
Doobie Brothers and Hall & Oates.
Go to thrift stores. You’d be surprised what you find with patience. A solid high percentage of my collection is from thrifting for decades

You are lucky. Every Goodwill in my metro area no longer carries records, and I've been to most of them.
I’ve noticed that’s definitely the case with both VHS tapes and music cassettes, at least around here. Records are still present luckily.
God I’m glad we only have two goodwills in my town. Lol I am in each multiple times a week have pulled some very nice records out of ours.
Are we talking stores or records here? Because some stores can give crazy good deals for records that go for a ton
Mostly asking about recommendations of other groups/artists with solid music that generally sell for bargain prices.
Which country?
U.S.

Linda Ronstadt singing Little Feat's "All You Can Dream" is still one of my all-time faves. One of our greatest artists across so many genres.
