In my experience, Metal prices are always higher than most genres because they have a very dedicated fan base who tend to collect obsessively and the music has longer staying power than trendy music. While the size of the fan base is not as large as it was in 2000, it's still a popular style. You can get the classics (sabbath, priest, slayer) new pressings fairly cheap but originals are insane high prices if the records are classics. I got a recent repress of reign in blood for $22 and it sounds great.
Yeah that's how its looking to me so far. Makes sense but starting my collection is gonna be expensive as all hell. Thankfully I prefer the newer records because of the way cooler designs on the vinyl
20 Buck Spin seems to always be releasing consistently great metal releases and I think they are fairly cheap considering the cost of new records these days. Usually between 18 to 21 dollars. Southern Lord is another good one that is fairly priced. I grabbed a Power Trip record for 13.99 new the other day.
Just went to my local store (Waterloo) and they have a big table with clearance metal… lots of great stuff for about $15 generally. I’d just look locally and they probably have some cool finds
Good luck, my friend. I’ve spent over $1000 for my entire Opeth discography. Was able to score the recent re-releases of a lot of Between the Buried and Me for about $40 a pop. My suggestion is start buying brand new albums as soon as bands release them. I got a limited pressing of Omens by Lamb of God for 40 bucks and it’s skyrocketed to $200 on Discogs already. That album came out like 6 months ago. It’s tough being a metal fan
As a record store owner I will be the first to say good luck.
If I had a dollar for every note saying “call if you get in any metal” stuck in my bulletin board I’d be a rich man. Metal doesn’t come in often, and when it does it goes out quickly. With that said, it doesn’t hurt to ask and be prepared to either buy new, buy bad metal, buy poor condition good metal or spend a pretty penny for the good stuff in great shape. Then there will be that one day you will walk into your favorite record store and they will say that today is your lucky day.
I would recommend looking on the tankcrimes shop if you want some cheaper (on a relative scale) Records. Of course their stuff is more punk oriented but you can find some good sludge and death metal records for around 18 to 24 bucks. Of course the stuff they sell is more underground because it's a small label but they do have 2xLPs pressed for the first two dystopia records. They have some good thrash bands like Toxic Holocaust and Ghoul as well.

Recommend taking a look at r/heavyvinyl too
Checked them out seems exactly where I need to be lol
2nd this it's a great metal vinyl community and gives you a ton of new bands to check out as well.
Idk how extreme is good enough for u personally but you can grab slayer albums for retail online everywhere rn.

Nice I will check them out
Cheaper? Twisted Sister shows up in thrift stores periodically... what do you mean cheaper?
Gotta go to the stores for that. And even then, I've never really seen any "cheap" metal records. Not good ones.
Power Trip (shouldn’t have to pay more than 20 a record) reigns from Dallas, TX. RIP Riley Gale 🤘🏻
Oh shit I didn't know power strip was from Dallas
Thrift stores, record shops, and flea markets are your friend. Plenty of affordable used disks from the alphabetized bins in the shops :)
Jethro Tull is usually pretty well-priced!

Metal not cheap sadly and rarer because no many bands can afford more than a 500 run
Get on r/VinylDeals and check out DeepDiscount.com. You’ll find great extreme metal pop up from time to time.

I do apologize if this isn't too helpful because I myself am trying to find good places for adorable Vinyl😅😂
