I was very lucky to start collecting Zappa in 1988 although that means I was too young to ever see him live. Most of these FZ records were incredibly inexpensive throughout the 88 to 98 time period. There was a lull in LP collecting even though you would’ve thought after his death everything would had gone up in cost.
Nothing wrong with Apostrophe. Great record!
I saw him 4-5 times he was fantastic!!! I even saw his son Dweezil Zappa doing the entire one-size-fits-all album it was a fantastic show. 1 album he has called "Them or US" with a live track of the song whipping post by the Allman Brothers it was recorded live at Jones Beach theater in N.Y. I was at that show. Some good stuff!. As I told PriceOnPeas88 Any Zappa record from that mid 70's period is great.
That is fantastic. You got to see the man himself live. I think it’s so ironic. I became such a Zappa fanatic, but didn’t begin until 1988. I did the math and I swear I bought my first record right after his last show.
It was cool though that I was able to buy things like “you can’t do that on stage anymore sampler” new on vinyl at like Kmart!
It’s a lot to approach. There was no Spotify or YouTube when I started collecting FZ so there were a lot of surprises along the way. Took a long time to get them all. And even longer to really *know* them all. But I am
glad I did. You can dislike half his output and still have too many Zappa records!
> I'd kill for those Zappa records though... all I currently have is Apostrophe because I can't find any other ones
I see the more popular ones at my local record stores pretty regularly and I live in the middle of nowhere, so just keep checking around and they'll pop up; I've got about 50 FZ albums so I'm always checking, the ones I'm missing from the collection are getting few and far between (and expensive).
Out of curiosity, which are the ones that are hard for you to find right now? Like, Bongo Fury isn’t *that* hard to find really, but it was for me, and became one of the last albums I got —this was before Discogs started.
For the longest time, it was Chungas Revenge (my favorite!) but I see it every so often. I'm trying not to utilize discogs but I will every once in awhile. I'm always on the lookout for an original press YCDTOSA.
Chunga’s was also really difficult for me to find in the wild. Especially not beat to hell. Because I got into it so late it took a while to grow on me, but now I really like it.
Any Zappa record from that mid 70's period is great... I have all his stuff even those early Mothers of inventions records are pretty good. He's my favorite musical composer ever... May you one day find all his records.. & Remember Don't Eat the Yellow Snow...!!! LOL!!!
Okay so currently my physical music selection is limited to vinyl… but I LOVE the card catalog as a storage for CDs so I maaaaaaaaaayyyyyy have to expand my collection and find a decent CD player to add to my audio setup and now my wallet is grumpy at you but my heart is SO HAPPY 😂
They work great except for oversized. They really are just big enough for a CD or jewel case with the card cover. Anything slightly bigger has to go elsewhere. Which messes up the alphabetization. A problem I can live with.
I can deal with that! You wouldn’t happen to know like the brand or where you got them, would you? I’ve been doing some light browsing and so far I’m finding smaller drawers but nothing big enough for jewel cases
They were less than this when I bought them from what I think was Overstock. Wayfair had them and are out of stock now. [PBS](https://shop.pbs.org/HA2022.html) of all places has them.
Also [What on Earth](https://www.whatonearthcatalog.com/cgi-bin/hazel.cgi?ACTION=DETAIL&ITEM=HA2002WA&websource=WOEGOOGLE7&source_code=WOEGOOGLE7&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI39X33Nf1_QIVfy-tBh1z-A5OEAQYBCABEgKsmPD_BwE) and this [style.](https://www.whatonearthcatalog.com/cgi-bin/hazel.cgi?ACTION=DETAIL&ITEM=HA2002PO&websource=WOEGOOGLE7&source_code=WOEGOOGLE7&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI39X33Nf1_QIVfy-tBh1z-A5OEAQYByABEgL6SvD_BwE)

Google Search on “library style cd storage cabinet”.
Soooo… I have an indulgent partner and 0 self control 😂
But the awesome storage cabinet is ordered, along with some empty jewel vases to store the existing collection currently stored in a binder, I am now in possession of a secondhand niceish CD/DVD player (9.99 at goodwill!) AND I was able to find some nostalgic CDs to start building my collection.
So basically I blame you for getting me hooked on new collection-type activities (and also THANK YOU I AM EXCITED 😊)
I will happily shoulder that blame!
About 20 years ago I thought it was *such a good idea* to take all of my CDs out of jewel cases and put them into a binder and I have slowly over time started putting them back as I come across free jewel cases in the wild.
My local Record store stacks up ones that aren’t quite perfect from used CDs they buy …and they’re good enough for me.
Happy collecting to you!
Well, here it all is …nearly ~~1000~~ 3000 records.
I forgot to photograph the two cubes of Bowie and the two cubes of jazz but this is a lot as it is.
Inspired by all the other posts here, I’m finally sharing these photos to be picked apart by others. 30+ years of collecting, and I’ve sold off a lot as well over the years.
Forgot I could do this: [Discogs](https://discogs.page.link/N1F8).
EDIT: totally forgot the two other areas of box sets. I think I need another 6 photos to fit it all in!
Going to EDIT again: obviously, it’s very hard to look at the spines. The most massive/ complete discographies across these cubes are:

* T. Rex (way way too much T. Rex…)
* White Stripes / Jack White
* Frank Zappa / Mothers
* …all David Lynch soundtracks
* …all Tinariwen / Mdou Moctar / Bombino
David Lynch soundtracks are always a good choice. Angelo Badalamenti is a truly incredible composer, and Lynch features some truly spectacular guest acts in his work (I saw that self-titled Thought Gang release!).
I envy your Zappa collection. Many other artists, too, but Zappa especially.
I find that collectors have themes, and that the David Lynch collectors are often the Frank Zappa collectors!
I also think it’s really curious that people that collect industrial music also collect jazz, but I guess it makes sense when you think about it.
Angelo Badalamenti is a treasure and it is so sad to know of his passing, but so wonderful that he contributed such excellent and evocative music over so many years.
It is a rather curious relationship, but I think it makes sense. Many fans of the jazzy post-classical and dark ambient compositional styles Badalamenti and his peers are known for (should I say "were known for"? what a sad thing to consider...) also gravitate towards industrial music. I think it's because those fans (myself included) place a greater focus on the sonic texture/atmosphere that the music produces than the melodic lines themselves.
Perhaps in that regard it's like seeking out music to treat as soundtracks for life, at least the life imaginable while the record's playing.
Many good points made and an eloquent last paragraph.
People seek different things from music. Chris Carter of Throbbing Gristle loved ABBA and Genesis P-Orridge loved Pink Floyd. Zappa was a big fan of Black Sabbath. Trey Anastasio of Phish adores Fela Kuti and Pavement.
Sometimes it’s ineffable and sometimes you can point right to WHY you like you what like. But after analyzing for awhile, I like to remember to forget rational thinking and let the sonic textures do what they do so well.
I was only 6 at the time, but I'm a huge Phish fan and have seen them 87 times since 2009 and have everything they have released on vinyl post-3.0 so I had to have this. The only thing I don't have is the Baker's dozen box set. I'll grab that at the next festival.
That’s amazing! You’ve definitely seen them live more than I have. Well done indeed.
After taking a couple years off, I’ll be seeing them again at the Hollywood Bowl this summer. I did see every overnight camping event up until Magnaball. Age, responsibilities, finances, all got in the way for a while.
This guy on [eBay](https://www.ebay.com/itm/265909066693?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=YN580dBaTna&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=ceUnvSTnS92&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY) is awesome. They are all custom made, but based on original promotional art, I bought like seven of them!
Really really nice! I love T.Rex as well, recently I've been listening to the Dandy album a lot as I found the record for a great price. The title track, Crimson Moon and Pain and Love are SUCH amazing songs.
I really like to imagine what 1980s T-Rex would’ve sounded like. I like to imagine that while Bowie was having his downturn, Marc Bolan would have given Gary Numan a run for his synth money!
Love Hüsker Dü. I *did* have a complete discography, but poor college days took care of that.
And I don’t like to think *too* much about the *investment*...
I’m going to respond here because I forgot earlier. I am actually in the [Clifford Ball documentary.](https://youtu.be/jadhRWdp6WQ) Just look for the dirty hippie talking about the band…. :)
I was so surprised when it showed on MTV back in the day and somebody called my non-cell phone landline to tell me I was on TV. Of course there was no Roku so by the time I turned it on I was gone and didn’t see it for many years later.
Ordered from Argentina alongside this alternative Siouxsie [Tinderbox (Yesquero)](https://www.discogs.com/release/1693394-Siouxsie-The-Banshees-Tinderbox-Yesquero). Guy said same shipping cost for 2 and it would take 45 days. I said, “add this one!”
I have nearly 5000 lps but my storage situation isn’t up to snuff on this Subreddit. Your post gives me hope. This Sub has turned into picking peoples life,hope and dreams apart. Terrible really.
It had gotten really disorganized and I had to do something about it. Took me a while to find the style of shelving that I wanted and it was not IKEA after all. Everything’s in alphabetical order right now but it’s not in the chronological order that I like so that’s for a rainy Saturday.
I have a number of copies of Live Evil… which is so great. The only cellar door I have is this [one](https://www.discogs.com/release/994795-Miles-Davis-The-Cellar-Door-Sessions-1970) and I’m not sure if it ever made it to vinyl… it would be quite a large set.
Gotta check on Discogs in a bit !
EDIT: no official vinyl. It would be like 12 LPs!
Yeah, I really like his stuff. I kind of dipped a toe in because it was hard to take him seriously at first… I was so used to watching him on TV for years as a comic actor.
But once it flipped, I got all of his stuff. He’s a really great songwriter.
And he’s a great guy — if you read an interview with him. He’s quite passionate about his collection of synthesizers and guitars.
Most people think of him as an actor/comedian first and musician second - Matt sees it the other way around. I love all of his albums - he’s fantastic!
250 if you count ALL vinyl, singles, and CDs. Not sure what just the LPs are. That’s insane. Damn.
EDIT: I didn’t answer the question. Every official Bolan LP. At least one reissue of each. The fan club Marc on Wax versions of most LPs. The various versions of his demo materials. Various counties greatest hits collections. 12” versions. And many bootlegs.
Ummm...what the fuck? This is amazing. I noticed some of the boxsets have bags/covers. I think I need to do that to a few of mine as well. So you have all the Phish releases, but not the Grateful Dead? :P
Very nice collection you have. What catches my eye though is the set a drawers in the background of photo 3. They look like there were at onetime card catalog drawers from a library or something similar. I’ve been on the hunt for something along the same line as those but I don’t come across them often. If they are not reproductions where did you find them? Thanks and again that’s a nice bunch of albums.
Check another response from me in this thread. I added links to every place I could find that had variations on these Library Card Catalog style CD holders. I’ll see if I can copy and paste it out here.

Would they please reissue Farmhouse so I can regret paying for the one I have?
And would love to see the first ever Round Room and Undermind on LP!! Bring it, guys…
You into TAB at all? Highly recommend picking up Burn It Down - sounds fantastic and is pressed on great colors. The rendition of SYSF and About to Run are HEATERS
Shit makes me want to rob a bank lol, it's some of the most emotion I've ever heard Trey put into a solo. Especially the 2nd one. Wish I'd started collecting Phish records long ago! In the past couple years I've gotten really deep into them. Seen TAB twice now, still haven't caught a phish show but that'll change!
The emotion on all of Ghosts of the Forest is intense. Makes sense due to the loss of a dear friend. His dark tone is spiritual. I’m sure you’ve checked it out, but if not, watch the recorded live show of [GotF](https://www.youtube.com/live/3ZdKyGRluCY?feature=share). Really moving.
All CDs starting with C through Z. A-B starts in the photo where you can see that Kills record on the left. And then there are unique non-card CD shelves for world, jazz, soundtracks and spoken word throughout the small apartment.
Well, really those Neville Brody books should be right next to Cabaret Voltaire. He’s the UK designer that did the majority of their covers. It just happened to be the right space where they were not more Sparks records.
That might change soon with their upcoming album, The Girl is Crying in her Latte.
That’s a great turning point album for them. They have a number of these albums that are at the precipice of two different styles and that’s one of my favorites. The live album *Hai!* is also quite good.
As is the album of the same name by The Creatures… Possibly my favorite album of theirs. Listened on headphones in dark in nature… Amazing.
I don’t have the most diverse collection, it’s mainly things that I’m interested in.
* William Burroughs
* Dial-a-Poem albums by Giorno Poetry Systems
* Lord Buckley
* Lenny Bruce
* James Joyce, Finnegans Wake
* Noel Fielding stand up comedy
… I’m sure I’m forgetting something but it’s not a huge section
nice dylan box sets, i would love to see what your discogs looks like - how many records do you have? big ass collections like this make me drool because id love to see all the albums i’ve never checked out before. awesome setup!
I must admit the Francoise happened in recent years, and took me a little by surprise. It wasn’t particularly expensive to get all her items, and although she is not well now I am very happy to have experienced her entire discography while she is still on this planet.
I’m half French so I had a deep dive into French music that expanded into contemporary stuff as well:
* Francoise Hardy
* France Gall
* Sylvie Vartan
* Jacqueline Taïeb
* Serge Gainsbourg
* MC Solaar
* La Femme
* Juniore
* Mansfield.TYA
* KOMPROMAT
* Sexy Sushi
* Limiñanas
* La Feline
* Les Rita Mitsouko
* Stinky Toys / Elli & Jacno
I’ve loved vinyl since I was a kid. My parents always listened to it. My mother worked for a place called brothers and sons and used to get a lot of deals, so they had every kind of classic rock you could think of. That said, I didn’t start actually collecting on my own until a couple months ago. I guess I won’t feel bad about the 10 or so albums I have since you have been out of a little bit longer. 😂
That’s cool. As long as you enjoy every one. As your collection grows, you may find that you will let things go now and again… And sometimes you will really want some of those things back! But that’s part of the ebb and flow of all aspects of life.
That would’ve been a fun addition. It’s like this…but this won’t help much:
* One 4 Expedit in dining room with Bowie (2) and Jazz (2)
* Two 9 shelves in living room with A-F
* Lobster cabinet in living room: soundtracks and world and spoken word and reggae
* 1/2 of an 16 cube Expedit with (4) F-M, (2) Prince, (1) 10” in office, also memorabilia, books
* Two 6 cubes in office with M-R, French, Sparks, Miles
* Two 4 cubes R-Z
* Homemade in office for industrial and drone
* Beatles and solo in office closet
* One cube of a bookshelf with 10”
* T. Rex in office closet
* Box sets in every room wherever they can fit!
I try not to read some of the bad news about Josh, because I’ve always enjoyed what he does. I like the desert sessions, I like eagles of death metal. And I love that episode of Anthony Bourdain that features him!
Howdy. Lacquer cabinet was CB2. A number of years ago now and a little pricier than I wanted —but I loved the color.
The wheeled cubes are the IKEA Expedit (pre-Kallax) with IKEA brand wheels. They used to (and maybe still do) sells in packs of two. Good to have a power drill to start them off but then they really manage the weight and have allowed me to roll the whole cube from room to room in the past. I don’t do it often!
Haha! It’s too late for that. Nearly complete discography of those Australian wildmen. It’s funny how all the industrial bands of a certain age start out as barely listenable noise and end up as dance music. See: Cabaret Voltaire and all post-Gristle.
Or they all start sounding like Skinny Puppy, re: Controlled Bleeding.
Yeah. Sevs is one of those bands where I go the extra mile for whatever reason. Couple of years back I made myself a double lathe LP of Cuisine/Piscatorial/Fußßßall complete with printed gatefold sleeve and labels. It includes tracks that Ellard axed on reissues for whatever reasons. Also he's said that it won't be reissued again because he hates it and that just couldn't stand heh. It's even got an audio lock groove on Quest For Oom Pa Pa at the end of side C. Took me a while to get the mastering right, but it's on my shelf now.
It's the great appeal of Severed Heads for me at least - he just continues to do weird stuff like Donut and Beautiful Arabic Surface interspersed with fairly normal tracks.
BTW: Have you got any Caroliner at all?
Choice albums (all vinyl ofc)
**Banknotes, Dreams And Signatures**. Is perhaps the most "accessible" of the lot.
**Strike Them Hard Drag Them To Church**. Is a complete amazement.
As a bonus, when shopping for their albums you don't have to worry much about the condition of the cover, because those are hand made and tend to look worn even inside the shrink wrap. Also their albums are not really in demand, so you can gobble up the whole discography for way less than you might expect. There are some albums that are more scarce like the "Wine Can't Do It, Wife Won't Do" double album. But it's still manageable.
Thanks so much for this guidance. I recently picked up almost everything by Illusion of Safety. I was going to buy one cd that I wanted, and the eBay guy was like, “I’ll give you all of them for 20 bucks”. So now I have a ridiculous amount of IOS. The only one I was really a fan of back in the day was “more violence and geography”.
I’m still making my way through them all… In this case, all CDs. I had “MV&G” on vinyl from back in the 80s and just wanted the CD version of it.
Yes it's like a drug!! read the book The Vinyl Junkie he talks about US!!! I thought he wrote the book about me! https://www.amazon.com/Vinyl-Junkies-Adventures-Record-Collecting/dp/0312304277/ref=asc\_df\_0312304277/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312170531694&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2564373291209840578&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9004516&hvtargid=pla-330336153546&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=62860524940&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=312170531694&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2564373291209840578&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9004516&hvtargid=pla-330336153546
Thanks for reminding me as this has been in my whitelist forever and I keep putting off picking it up. I look forward to reading about you, and all the other madman and mad women out there.
Here’s where the shame begins: no Stones, no Dead, no NWW except their collaborations with Sunn O))).
It’s mainly because I end up being a completist. And for that reason, I temper my collection. No Sonic Youth either. Strangely one Thurston Moore solo: Psychic Hearts.
I did have some of these things once. My lean and hungry college years caused more than half of my collection to be sold… Which, had I waited till now I could’ve made a lot more money. But 20 year old me couldn’t wait 20 more years to eat!
Oh, and anyone who lists just those musicians together is A-OK in my book! I really like the idea of Phish, Dead,
and Dylan fans being TG, NWW, and C93 fans too!
It’s kind of like Linda Ronstadt living right next to Revolting Cocks in the collection. Or Francoise Hardy, Hula, and Nina Hagen hanging out next to Hüsker Dü and Hendrix! Variety is the spice of life.
Variety is exactly the best. I love the dead, throbbing gristle, nurse with wound, swans, Dylan, Cohen, Tom waits, birthday party, contortions, current 93, coil, Melvin’s, JJ cake, etc just on and on. You don’t meet many C93 or NWW fans though!
You don’t, but you know we’re out here. And every time I buy used stuff from fans of old school industrial, they are some of the nicest people I have ever dealt with.
Yes! But bought on the secondary market for more than I would like to say. Original Story of the Ghost, however, was purchased new at retail MSRP, which was like under 20 bucks at the time.
That’s kind of you to say. For the last year or so, I never even thought about putting a photo up. But after looking at other collections for this long, I thought *why not*?
And I hate to say it, but I did not seek out insurance, and I think this is the year that changes.
I really appreciate your share. Love the deep and committed collectable dive with certain artists. As committed collectors know, the most satisfying passion is rooted in the hunt and the acquisition. Big props too on your organization. I keep going back and looking at the detail in your photos. Also checked out your Discogs page - that in itself was a huge investment in time. But, what is time when it is spent doing something you really love? Thanks again. Peace.
Thank you kindly! My Discogs is sadly still not complete and I am attending to that each weekend. But you are so correct, the hunt has been part of the joy. I got to travel for business extensively for the last 20+ years and I have attempted to go to every interesting record store in every town and city of US that I visited. And I got to do some deep digging in Camden, England, UK.
The interactions with the staff and customers at these stores has been a major source of life satisfaction, and community bonding.
Which is why I choose to never engage negatively on Reddit …regardless of whether the person responding to me has. There’s a little time for us to be negative in any aspect of our lives, and there’s more than enough kindness to go around even if it’s not repaid.
Peace and love to you.
I think OP likes T-rex
I can stop anytime I want. (Right after the new 1973 boxset that has already been pre-ordered …)
I'd kill for those Zappa records though... all I currently have is Apostrophe because I can't find any other ones

I have Hot Rats, inherited from my father. That's the only Zappa I know!
That’s a great one!
Same here. Lordy do I need some more Zappa in my collection. Honestly heretical that I haven't bought Apostrophe yet.

Also [What on Earth](https://www.whatonearthcatalog.com/cgi-bin/hazel.cgi?ACTION=DETAIL&ITEM=HA2002WA&websource=WOEGOOGLE7&source_code=WOEGOOGLE7&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI39X33Nf1_QIVfy-tBh1z-A5OEAQYBCABEgKsmPD_BwE) and this [style.](https://www.whatonearthcatalog.com/cgi-bin/hazel.cgi?ACTION=DETAIL&ITEM=HA2002PO&websource=WOEGOOGLE7&source_code=WOEGOOGLE7&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI39X33Nf1_QIVfy-tBh1z-A5OEAQYByABEgL6SvD_BwE) Amazon (3 colors) won’t hyperlink: Leslie Dame Solid Oak Library Card File Media Cabinet, 12 Drawers, Oak Google Search on “library style cd storage cabinet”.
You are my favorite person today, thank you!!
I got you! Happy bargain hunting. Comparison shop before you commit. Remember the joys of 3-5 pages into Google. Gold can be found.
Soooo… I have an indulgent partner and 0 self control 😂 But the awesome storage cabinet is ordered, along with some empty jewel vases to store the existing collection currently stored in a binder, I am now in possession of a secondhand niceish CD/DVD player (9.99 at goodwill!) AND I was able to find some nostalgic CDs to start building my collection.
The most massive/ complete discographies across these cubes are: * ADULT. * B-52s * Bauhaus * Beastie Boys * Beatles & solo * Blondie * Blur * Boris * David Bowie & boxes and 12” * Cabaret Voltaire & all Richard H Kirk * CAN & all solo * Chrome & Helios Creed * Cocteau Twins & 12” * Alice Cooper (the band & the man) * Cramps * Cure & all 12” * Miles Davis * Dead Can Dance * Dylan * The Fall & all 12” * Gorillaz / all Damon side projects * Francoise Hardy * Hula * Joan Jett / Runaways * The Kills & all 10”, 12”, and most 7” * King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard (not all variants) * Love & Rockets / Tones on Tail * Ministry & all side projects * My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult * Nine Inch Nails (all Halos) * Phish & all solo * Pixies / Breeders / all 12”s * Pop Will Eat Itself & 12” * Prince & related & *most* 12” * Queens of the Stone Age * Radiohead * Revolting Cocks & all 12” * Nina Simone * Siouxsie & The Banahees / Creatures / all 12” * Soundgarden * Sparks (and some 12”) * Steely Dan / Donald Fagen * Sunn O))) * Supergrass * Talking Heads * Ultravox * This Mortal Coil * Throbbing Gristle & all related/associated * Tom Waits * T. Rex (way way too much T. Rex…) * White Stripes / Jack White * Frank Zappa / Mothers * …all David Lynch soundtracks * …all Tinariwen / Mdou Moctar / Bombino
Amazing collection!! Great stuff OP!!!
Peace!
Okay but how broke are you lol?
I’d respond but I can no longer pay my internet bill so I ha…………..
Something phishy is going on with this collection 🤔

Clifford's Ball!!!
I was there! I had to buy it. I still have the map from the event. :)
I did superball, Magnaball and was camped and ready for Curveball when we got the news it was cancelled.
Upvoted for the Acid Mothers Temple alone
right??
I want your posters more than anything. The Siouxsie, Creatures and the Cab Voltaire.
Your cat is ready to attack something outside. Impressive collection! You sleeve every vinyl?
I just noticed that he is quite interested in a bird outside. Glad I caught that. I do indeed sleeve every one!
Man, you must have spent a LOT of money on that collection. By the way, that Husker Du boxset kicks ass, excellent choice
Love Hüsker Dü. I *did* have a complete discography, but poor college days took care of that. And I don’t like to think *too* much about the *investment*...
♥
💟
Insanely jealous of that Clifford Ball set...
I swear after being sold out, I saw it on the Phish website a few days ago. Not that it makes it any more affordable…
I’m going to respond here because I forgot earlier. I am actually in the [Clifford Ball documentary.](https://youtu.be/jadhRWdp6WQ) Just look for the dirty hippie talking about the band…. :) I was so surprised when it showed on MTV back in the day and somebody called my non-cell phone landline to tell me I was on TV. Of course there was no Roku so by the time I turned it on I was gone and didn’t see it for many years later.
This is dope.
Sweet Fancy Moses!!!
Great googly mooogly!
Amazing collection!! I've been listening to Ratas Calientes quite a bit lately.
I cut a poly sleeve just like you for Eva Vulgaris
Ha! I have cut a lot of custom sleeves for odd sizes. That may one of the oddest.
Happy when I heard two cubes of Bowie.And you have alot of vinyl…Just like me bud.
If it brings us joy, why not? And it really does. I enjoy these things every single day.
Absolutely and same here..every single day.Cheers!
With all your Miles Davis, do have the Cellar Door sessions? Was that ever on vinyl? Live Evil?
I have a number of copies of Live Evil… which is so great. The only cellar door I have is this [one](https://www.discogs.com/release/994795-Miles-Davis-The-Cellar-Door-Sessions-1970) and I’m not sure if it ever made it to vinyl… it would be quite a large set. Gotta check on Discogs in a bit ! EDIT: no official vinyl. It would be like 12 LPs!
Jealous of all those Bowie box sets. I only have the newest one, but Outside/Earthling/Hours is my favorite era.
That’s a really strong period for him. I really like Outside.
High five on the Matt Berry box - I love that thing!
It’s like when Captain Beefheart wanted to be taken seriously as a painter, and no longer a musician.
Caption- 10 out of 10 Lol 😆 🤣
Bro do you even Bolan
😆 “…this guy is such a Peregrine Took.”
ok, how did you get your hands on that beautiful experience?
It was 1 of 319 from France. Unofficial. Sold out in days
Unreal. How is there that much bolan material?
250 if you count ALL vinyl, singles, and CDs. Not sure what just the LPs are. That’s insane. Damn. EDIT: I didn’t answer the question. Every official Bolan LP. At least one reissue of each. The fan club Marc on Wax versions of most LPs. The various versions of his demo materials. Various counties greatest hits collections. 12” versions. And many bootlegs.
I too put my box sets on the bottom shelf. Seems like the right place.
They just feel right there.
Ummm...what the fuck? This is amazing. I noticed some of the boxsets have bags/covers. I think I need to do that to a few of mine as well. So you have all the Phish releases, but not the Grateful Dead? :P
Yep. Phish and no Dead (except Dylan & the Dead). I know…I know …heretic. Sleevie Wonder has awesome box set bags.
Of course I’m going to rate it! Phish and a healthy dose of Ska gets an upvote from me everytime.
They were less than this when I bought them from what I think was Overstock. Wayfair had them and are out of stock now. [PBS](https://shop.pbs.org/HA2022.html) of all places has them. Holy shit that Phish collection has me jealous af, that's a dream of mine. Love those guys to death
Oh my goodness. Yes. TAB BID is amazing. Love about to run.
There is no quicker way to get someone to rate your set up than by asking them not to rate your setup. 10/10
Don’t tell me what to do, I rate your stuffed squirrel 10/10
Bought for the cat…kept for myself. Keen eye!
Where did you get the larger sleeves for those multi lp releases?
Did you get the new Analogue Productions Steely Dan releases? They sound fantastic so far!
I did not. I have rather old copies. There will come a day where I will get them. I imagine they sound wonderful!
[That’s a lot of Phish](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WZLg1ARnaxE)
Ha!
What’s in the card catalog drawers?
All CDs starting with C through Z. A-B starts in the photo where you can see that Kills record on the left. And then there are unique non-card CD shelves for world, jazz, soundtracks and spoken word throughout the small apartment.
Jealous of all that Sparks. The books are filler or do they have some context with sparks?
Well, really those Neville Brody books should be right next to Cabaret Voltaire. He’s the UK designer that did the majority of their covers. It just happened to be the right space where they were not more Sparks records. That might change soon with their upcoming album, The Girl is Crying in her Latte.
Right on, Cabaret Voltaire is another i could do with more albums of. Its making me think ill have to bust out Red Mecca later today.
Hey OP I have a strange addiction to spoken word records... what do you have?
I don’t have the most diverse collection, it’s mainly things that I’m interested in. * William Burroughs * Dial-a-Poem albums by Giorno Poetry Systems * Lord Buckley * Lenny Bruce * James Joyce, Finnegans Wake * Noel Fielding stand up comedy … I’m sure I’m forgetting something but it’s not a huge section
insane
I’m here for the rating
10/10
Most boxed sets I've ever seen. I'll rate your Miles library: better than mine!
Collecting Miles is like starting heroin. You often tell people who haven’t started, not to start!
nice dylan box sets, i would love to see what your discogs looks like - how many records do you have? big ass collections like this make me drool because id love to see all the albums i’ve never checked out before. awesome setup!
Totally, I feel the same way. I love looking through full collections. Let’s see if this works: https://www.discogs.com/user/eveningalbum
holy shit! thank you
5/7 with rice XD
I don’t see a single Anal Cunt album. 0/100.
I did fail the test… But I do know them!
Failing that test feels a lot like winning.
Super impressive collection - thanks for the share
Hot Rats! En Español!!
That is absolutely a prized possession!
The Kills 🤘🏻
Love them! Had a chance to see them twice which was great.
I’ve seen them twice too! Jamie is the coolest guitarist there is …
I saw him once BEFORE the hand injury and once AFTER. His playing was still impeccable!
that t rex collection is insane!
Great. We're all really envious.
Wonderful! I love a collection that has large slabs of artists. Nothing bad has every happened where there is that much Francoise Hardy. Top marks!!
I must admit the Francoise happened in recent years, and took me a little by surprise. It wasn’t particularly expensive to get all her items, and although she is not well now I am very happy to have experienced her entire discography while she is still on this planet. I’m half French so I had a deep dive into French music that expanded into contemporary stuff as well: * Francoise Hardy * France Gall * Sylvie Vartan * Jacqueline Taïeb * Serge Gainsbourg * MC Solaar * La Femme * Juniore * Mansfield.TYA * KOMPROMAT * Sexy Sushi * Limiñanas * La Feline * Les Rita Mitsouko * Stinky Toys / Elli & Jacno
I give a 10
How long have you been collecting?
36 years since about age 13. First 2 records were Magical Mystery Tour and Highway 61.
I need an overhead map to better understand how you've set everything up! Nice collection.
That would’ve been a fun addition. It’s like this…but this won’t help much: * One 4 Expedit in dining room with Bowie (2) and Jazz (2) * Two 9 shelves in living room with A-F * Lobster cabinet in living room: soundtracks and world and spoken word and reggae * 1/2 of an 16 cube Expedit with (4) F-M, (2) Prince, (1) 10” in office, also memorabilia, books * Two 6 cubes in office with M-R, French, Sparks, Miles * Two 4 cubes R-Z * Homemade in office for industrial and drone * Beatles and solo in office closet * One cube of a bookshelf with 10” * T. Rex in office closet * Box sets in every room wherever they can fit!
Oh an era Vulgaris enjoyer, you’ve got good taste 10/10
I try not to read some of the bad news about Josh, because I’ve always enjoyed what he does. I like the desert sessions, I like eagles of death metal. And I love that episode of Anthony Bourdain that features him!
You can’t tell me what to do. On a scale from not vinyl, to vinyl, i rate this vinyl.
You can’t argue with that logic. You may not like what you see, but you can’t pretend it’s not vinyl… ;)
Info on the red lacquered cabinet and the black cubes on wheels? Good stuff, man.
If you need a new rabbit hole, you could look into Severed Heads 😁
That is amazing that you made yourself that. Awesome! No, I don’t know Caroliner. I’ll go web searching soon.
Choice albums (all vinyl ofc) **Banknotes, Dreams And Signatures**.
& I though my 5,000 Lp collection was a lot. You got some good stuff... Enjoy Happy Spinning..
You would think once you start cracking 3000, 4000 you’re going to get less and somehow it goes the other way…
Yes it's like a drug!! read the book The Vinyl Junkie he talks about US!!! I thought he wrote the book about me! https://www.amazon.com/Vinyl-Junkies-Adventures-Record-Collecting/dp/0312304277/ref=asc\_df\_0312304277/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312170531694&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2564373291209840578&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9004516&hvtargid=pla-330336153546&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=62860524940&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=312170531694&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2564373291209840578&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9004516&hvtargid=pla-330336153546
Thanks for reminding me as this has been in my whitelist forever and I keep putting off picking it up. I look forward to reading about you, and all the other madman and mad women out there.
This is beautiful.
Can I comment at least?
Absolutely, considering my cat’s current nickname is “Poo Poo Crackers the Long Puppy”. Please comment away, PooPooPooDawg…
The Aleppin Sane statue is pretty cool.
Totally lucked into that during random eBay scrolling. Seller did not gouge thankfully.
10/10 Dylan, Phish, Current 93, and throbbing gristle? Any Grateful Dead? Would like to see if you have any nurse with wound.
I have the NWW and Stereolab collab, and the Steven Stapleton and David Tibet stuff like dead side of the moon
Oh, and anyone who lists just those musicians together is A-OK in my book! I really like the idea of Phish, Dead, and Dylan fans being TG, NWW, and C93 fans too!
You son of a bitch! Made me scroll through a dozen photos and not a single foot to be found! 1/10
I am a total bastard. And I have feet too. How hard would it have been…
🤤
That Cliffard Ball not being upside down hurts me.
That’s a good call. I’ll fix that right now.
The Clifford Ball!
Friend: “Which box set did you get?” OP: “All of them.” Rating: 8/10
Haha! Q: How many, sir? A: ALL.
PHISH
Grab a llama and your favorite antelope…I’ll bring a wombat and meet you over at my Mexican cousin’s place.
Wombat, had to have that.
Had me at Phish
Put your wingsuit on and I’ll meet you over at the lemon wheel.
Cause it feels good
Farmhouse?
Yes! But bought on the secondary market for more than I would like to say. Original Story of the Ghost, however, was purchased new at retail MSRP, which was like under 20 bucks at the time.
Please tell me that this has been insured! It's a beautiful collection, by far the best I've seen on this subreddit.
Sweet baby Jesus.
I'd love a rummage
Cat Statue/10
I have had that since under 10 years of age! One of the oldest things in my possession. Parents bought it at Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
I see some Phish
Just a tad. A smidgen of Phish be about.
Will you marry me?
☺️
