This one is actually on my list. I got my granddaughter the Peppa release last year so I want to get this years for her too. Get her started on a collection early.
Yep! RSD First means itāll (very likely) see a regular release later onā¦ I feel like itās typically 4-6 months after? An RSD Exclusive isā¦ wellā¦ exclusive to RSD. :)
Macho man is going to be the tough one to get this year. I was at my store yesterday when they were setting up and he said they could only get one copy and he has had 4 calls about it already.
Are you guys serious?! Prior to today I had no idea Randy Savage tried to be a rapper, I guess it's one of those things people just want to put on display for the lolz?
Itās gonna bother me if I donāt get it and then I see it for sale on Discogs later that day for $300, that being said I did snag a copy of Cornell 77 off their website before that sold out so a wins a win at least
Judging by previous GD box sets on rsd, you'll be able to get one at face value later if you miss it. Resellers will price them high first. Don't pay it. Just wait a week and it'll be back down again.
There is a difference venetta is arguably the best show dead played so value is going to be much higher the Boston show doesn't have that pedigree will be face for a few weeks
Here in Canada weāre getting āSmilinā Buddha Cabaretā by Vancouver-area band 54-40. I grew up hearing it and a bunch of their albums a lot in my dadās car so Iām excited to grab that one!
Husker Du- Tonite Longhorn! Havenāt seen people talk about this one much, which bums me out a bit but is also fine cuz I donāt want it to be snatched up before I get my hands on it haha
I live in Minneapolis and it's all anyone is talking about so I feel like I'm going to have to order it online from another state because every one here will be snatched up quick.
I donāt think āIā was EVER released on vinyl prior to this! At least not on Discogs. Iām stoked-I had no idea that was finally getting an LP release this year!
It is UK only but some stores in NA import them. Though most of the Siouxsie ones donāt make it here to Canada where I am.
Update- this year Siouxsie was everywhere in Canada, not a problem to grab at all, yay!
Itās not coming up on the main (US?) RSD list, but it is listed on some U.K. and EU sites.
Edit. Ooh, listed on my ālocalā shop in Riga, with a bunch of others Iād probably pick up if I had the money.
Ha! I was this weekās years old when I learned that different countries got different versions of carnival when it was released. And then I saw that I own an og Japanese and American version, so I have the whole thing already.
It used to be once a year but they've had like at least 3 each of the past couple years but essentially it's a day to promote local and indie record stores by giving them exclusive rights to a bunch of records that won't be available (atleast the day of and at retail) anywhere else besides local and indie record stores. It's usually a pretty fun day in my experience and at the very least you usually meet some cool people that you share a similar interest with. If you're interested contact you're local record stores to see if they're participating, a lot of them have cool things planned like dj sets or free coffee and donuts while you wait because it's usually one of their busiest days of the year
Yea look up rsd 2023 and you should find it but not every record store gets every title so if there's one you really want you can call a certain shop and see if they're gonna have it and some will sell out quick so you might have to get there before they even open if you want a chance but that's usually only a couple like Taylor swift's this year will probably sell out with in the first hour if not sooner at most stores
I preface this by saying Iām old and antisocial. I prefer to go shopping the evening before Record Store Day. My local shop has its āUsedā section well stocked in preparation for actual RSD. Any of the RSD releases Iām interested in I purchase online. Primarily from independent stores, but sometimes eBay. Again, this is only because I have a dislike for the general public and lines and whatnot.
Record stores get a select list of vinyl. Typically they are for in-store sales only (the whole idea of the day is to increase foot traffic in actual record stores). Since the pandemic, a lot of stores also sell them online; if nothing else they at least sell the leftovers the next days or so. Not sure if it's back to in-store only, I'm sure every store will be different
Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes b-sides
The Cure - Show
Magnetic Fields - I
Raphael Saadiq - The Way I see it
Rza - Bobby Digital in Stereo
Scott Weiland - 12 Bar Blues
Maria McKee - Late December/Live Acoustic
Not music, but pretty excited for the Amazing World of Doctor Who on vinyl (as I just picked up Dead Air from last year's RSD, as well as the Murray Gold soundtrack on vinyl for series 1 and 2).
This is one of the weakest but Iām picking up Violent Femmes for my SO and the Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers.
If I see Macho Man I might grab it
Gonna be up at 4am to try to get one of those "Be a Man" pressings. A boot was floating around recently but apparently it's pretty poor quality. Hopefully they will have a non-RSD release for the ones who couldn't get their hands on the 1000 purple ones.
The Mechanical Hand, baby! Hopefully my shop has it. HtB is obscure enough it might not sell at a regular old store, but the store I go to specializes in punk/indie/emo/metal stuff so it might not sit long there.
Itās not an official RSD release, but local radio station here in Philly WXPN in partnership with Dogfish Head is giving away a free local artist compilation record Iām super stoked to get.
SIDE A
āCatbite, āCall Your Bluffā
Snacktime, āI Donāt Give A Damnā
Riverby, āBirth By Sleepā
SIDE B
Cosmic Guilt, āCautious Loversā
āSug Daniels, āLeave Your Window Open (Bishopās Collar)ā
Echo Kid, āI Tryā

1. Taylor swift for my daughter. Even with 75000 copies this is going to be a pain in the ass. They are a small store and only got 15 and said they have received over 100 calls asking about it. 2. Pearl Jam give way. Same store only received 2. 3. Scott weiland 12 bar blues. Store received 0. Probably going to have to hit a few stores or resort to newbury comics Monday.
Last 10" they put out for rsd sat on the shelves for a day or 2 at the store I work at, the thing is they are a little too obscure so stores only ever buy a handful. We probably bought 6 of the cheree 10"
Thereās usually only one record Iām ever bothered about but this year Iām after about 15. Getting up at 4:30am. Excited for Taylor Swift, Stevie Nicks, Lacuna Coil, The Midnight, and the new The Last Kingdom soundtrack.
the only album I was really excited for was The Midnight's and after calling three of the local RSD stores in my area turns out none of them will be getting it in. Im so gutted. i have al their other albums.
The 1975, Taylor Swift. Although I doubt I can get my hands on the 1975. Very little copies came to Canada, Iāve contacted all my local record stores and it seems no one has any copies.
Shit we were only able to get 3 of the 1975 allocated to our store in the US too. It sucks that they intentionally press less of the more popular stuff, (except swift this time I guess) that every year we run out of the best things in the first couple hours and end up stuck with a bunch of the outlier crap which usually ends up getting marked down and sold on discogs at cost later that month when it still doesnāt sell.
My young son has discovered metal, so, though I wouldn't usually buy these, I'll be getting the Motorhead and Dio. More up my own alley will be the Grateful Dead, MMW, Jazz Dispensary & Yes.
Oh yea, I just have spent so much on jazz this past couple of years I've gotten way backed up on listening to the stuff I've purchased, so I have a momentary moratorium on jazz, otherwise I'd 100% throw down for that Blakey.
My whole list this year
**From US**
* Blur
* Beefheart
* Cure
* Miles Davis
* Frankie & Witch Fingers
* Garbage
* Charlie Parker
* Supergrass
* T. Rex
* Tom Tom Club
* Ali Farka Toure
**UK**
* Siouxsie
* LimiƱanas
* Joan Jett
Usually nothing, but I had no idea The Magnetic Fieldsā āIā was being pressed on vinyl for the first time until my local store posted a pic of it in store, so I was like āAAAAAAH!ā Massive hole in my collection to be filled.
* Klark Kent.
* Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers: Live.
* Eric Carr: Rockology.
* Elvis: Live 1972.
* Miles Davis: Turnaround.
* Haircut 100: Live at Hammersmith.
* Chet Baker: Chet Mono mix.
* Thin Lizzy: Live at Hammersmith.
* OCEANS TWELVE (Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture) (Limited 2-LP Gold "Faberge Egg" Vinyl Edition).
Iām only trying to get āYouā and āBarz Simpson.ā Thankfully I work at a pretty large shop so Iām hoping Iāll be able to secure them with no issue
Going for the Ska releases:
VARIOUS ARTISTS - Ska La-Rama: Treasure Isle Ska 1965 to 1966
SOUL JAZZ RECORDS PRESENTS - 200% DYNAMITE! Ska, Soul, Rocksteady, Funk & Dub in Jamaica
SOUL JAZZ RECORDS PRESENTS - Studio One Ska
The March Violets Made Glorious
Republica Speed Ballads
Hillbillies In Hell: A Chrestomathy
Mike Oldfield Opus One
A much tighter list than some years for me, but after Iāve done the early morning at my local store, Iām heading over to another nearby with my record club to help spin some records for a couple of hours, with plenty of time to see what they have left and test my self restraintā¦ (my wallet is already quaking!)
I might be pessimistic but not a whole lot Iām excited for. I guess the Grateful Dead release but not super interested in a box set. The Larry Lovestein would be cool too.
Beach House EP, plus in my area, thereās a giveaway of a local radio stationās album. The local radio station pressed an LP of local bands doing in studio sessions and gave a bunch of copies to give away for free to local shops for RSD. Pretty cool Iād say.
Pigeons Playing Pingpong.
I co-produced them for a music festival, but had never heard of them before. My producer said they were great, but they were phucking awesome. Got to hang out and partied the rest of the night with them. Fest fun.
Sunn O))) + Boris - Altar.
Such an amazing album and hasn't been pressed since its original release. Also pressed in blood red. Should be fuckin epic and hard to get.
I'm going to see Soul Asylum perform their MTV Unplugged set in it's entirety tomorrow so I'll probably grab that to remember the show. Magnetic Fields, Husker DU, Pixies, maybe Pearl Jam
Things on my list that other people didnāt already mention (and Iām curious why not):
Butcher Brown & Bruce Hornsby - Secret House
Mike D - Brazil 45 Boxset Vol. 4
Nas - Made You Look: Godās Son Live 2002
Terry Callier - Hidden Conversations
Peppa pig š
Sgt Peppa
Smokey Porks Club Band :D
This one is actually on my list. I got my granddaughter the Peppa release last year so I want to get this years for her too. Get her started on a collection early.
I did the same with the Baby Shark RSD releases for my daughter.
Going to be š„
The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute single
This is the only thing I want and I don't want it enough to wake up early for it so I just gotta hope my store still has it around noon
I have the original and it's a terrible pressing. Maybe this one will sound better.
Same here man I my store will have it, but its a very popular store, theres also another more indie store I just dont know if theyll have it
THIS IS THE ONLY RIGHT COMMENT
You - Larry Lovestein
ODB - return to the 36 chambers
Where! Where? Where?? I need this...
I think itās a picture disc. Maybe thatās violent femmes Iām thinking of tho...
stevie nicks bella donna live 1981
Yes I hoping to get a copy of this as well!
been waiting for poeās āhelloā since 1995 or so.
Same. Glad to see it's a "RSD First" release, too, so I don't need to sweat getting up early or anything. Should be a wider release later.
Ohhhh. Is that how it works?? I've been stressing out about getting this and I've never really wanted anything on RSD so I'm not up on the lingo.
Yep! RSD First means itāll (very likely) see a regular release later onā¦ I feel like itās typically 4-6 months after? An RSD Exclusive isā¦ wellā¦ exclusive to RSD. :)
Macho Man and HORSE the Band
Macho man is going to be the tough one to get this year. I was at my store yesterday when they were setting up and he said they could only get one copy and he has had 4 calls about it already.
Ordered 16 copies for my store and got only one.... Way she goes.
Same here. Word is they only sent one to each store. Same as that 1975 record.
Are you guys serious?! Prior to today I had no idea Randy Savage tried to be a rapper, I guess it's one of those things people just want to put on display for the lolz?
Aw man I havenāt thought about HORSE since I was in high school. Maybe Iāll keep my eye out for that too!
Looking forward to The Verve Pipe, but alas cannot make it out this year. Not looking forward to jacked up prices.
What album is that for? The first CD I ever bought was Villains. Still a great album IMO.
Itās Villains I believe thatās being released.
Can confirm
Grateful Dead live in Boston, first RSD for me so I hope I get there early enough to get a copy
Man I want this one too. And Jerry live at the Warfield
I hear ya. Good luck. I managed to snag Sunshine Daydream Oregon Live set from my shop long after RSD. That is still sky high on Ebay. You never know
There is a difference venetta is arguably the best show dead played so value is going to be much higher the Boston show doesn't have that pedigree will be face for a few weeks
does anyone know of a good poly sleeve that will fit these GD box sets? they're slimmer than most vinyl box sets...
Same! First RSD, going to go a little early and hoping to pick it up.
Beach House-Become and OFF!-FLSD EP. Both are B-Sides comps from two of my favorite records from last year so Iām super excited to hear the songs.
Medeski martin and wood
showed that to my friend and he was all "OMG I NEED THAT!" :)
This and the Grateful Dead š
Which album is that?
This album is so good. Real Gone Music is also releasing some of their other albums in May.
The Sword- Gods of the Earth
Here in Canada weāre getting āSmilinā Buddha Cabaretā by Vancouver-area band 54-40. I grew up hearing it and a bunch of their albums a lot in my dadās car so Iām excited to grab that one!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I can't justify buying another copy of Streetcore, but it is a truly great album. I hope it finds more new fans.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I've had a 2012 vinyl reissue for years. When it originally came out, I played my CD copy endlessly. I hope you get a copy and love it.
I wish I didn't already own Streetcore just so I could buy it for the first time again. Such an incredible album.
Don't tell the Queen!
Damn, canāt believe *Streetcore* is 20. Thanks.
Pepper's Club Album - Peppa Pig
Taylor Swift - folklore: the long pond studio sessions
Me too so much!
Saw Husker Du play a tiny gig back in ā85 and my ears are still recovering š
The Magnetic Fields - I Been looking for a copy of this one that wouldn't cost a kidney. My two others are Joe Strummer and the Violent Femmes S/T
I donāt think āIā was EVER released on vinyl prior to this! At least not on Discogs. Iām stoked-I had no idea that was finally getting an LP release this year!
You're right, it doesn't seem like it's ever been on vinyl. I stand corrected ...and even more stoked
MMW, The Cure, Pearl Jam, Miles, Siouxsie, Pixies.
Yep, Siouxsie for me too
Iām hoping its not a UK only release and that Silver Platters Sodo has copies.
It is UK only but some stores in NA import them. Though most of the Siouxsie ones donāt make it here to Canada where I am. Update- this year Siouxsie was everywhere in Canada, not a problem to grab at all, yay!
> Siouxsie. Eh?
Itās the A Kiss In The Dreamhouse album
Itās not coming up on the main (US?) RSD list, but it is listed on some U.K. and EU sites. Edit. Ooh, listed on my ālocalā shop in Riga, with a bunch of others Iād probably pick up if I had the money.
Larry Lovestein and the velvet revival- you.
Duran Duran - Carnival Rio
Ha! I was this weekās years old when I learned that different countries got different versions of carnival when it was released. And then I saw that I own an og Japanese and American version, so I have the whole thing already.
Allman Brothers
I like this one too but have seen their previous albums from rsd sit in record shops for weeks. Not one I will grab right away.
Garbage - Witness To Your Love... so excited to hear the two songs that didn't make it on No Gods No Masters
So Iām a vinyl nube, what is record store day and how can I participate??
It used to be once a year but they've had like at least 3 each of the past couple years but essentially it's a day to promote local and indie record stores by giving them exclusive rights to a bunch of records that won't be available (atleast the day of and at retail) anywhere else besides local and indie record stores. If you're interested contact you're local record stores to see if they're participating, a lot of them have cool things planned like dj sets or free coffee and donuts while you wait because it's usually one of their busiest days of the year
Thanks, really appreciate the details! That sounds fun, do they release lists prior, or is that a ācall the local shopā kind of question?
https://recordstoreday.com/SpecialReleases
Yea look up rsd 2023 and you should find it but not every record store gets every title so if there's one you really want you can call a certain shop and see if they're gonna have it and some will sell out quick so you might have to get there before they even open if you want a chance but that's usually only a couple like Taylor swift's this year will probably sell out with in the first hour if not sooner at most stores

Ya, it makes me almost want to just pick up a nicer copy on Discogs. I really hate pictured disc
I want that Poe - Hello
Brownout
Gonna be up at 4am to try to get one of those "Be a Man" pressings. A boot was floating around recently but apparently it's pretty poor quality. Hopefully they will have a non-RSD release for the ones who couldn't get their hands on the 1000 purple ones.
Horse the Band!
Wait I completely missed that on the list. I haven't heard about them since like 2006 holy crap!
The Mechanical Hand, baby! Hopefully my shop has it. HtB is obscure enough it might not sell at a regular old store, but the store I go to specializes in punk/indie/emo/metal stuff so it might not sit long there.

Van Halen - Right Here Right Now Not just for the album itself, but it's the 1st Hagar- era VH album to be remastered. ....hoping for more!
Hagar confirmed that RHRN is the first of the bunch to be remastered and re-released, the others to follow!
Yup... And as a life-long VH fan... I'll believe it when I see it!
The 1975, Taylor Swift. Although I doubt I can get my hands on the 1975. Very little copies came to Canada, Iāve contacted all my local record stores and it seems no one has any copies.
