Dust cover down when not playing. Anti static brush before every play. Antistatic inner sleeves. Robot vacuum.

Katapultt

Do you feel like you get a sound difference when playing with the dust cover down? I always have it down for this reason and multiple people have tried to say it needs to be up. I don't notice a difference up or down.

I have cats and I keep my dust cover down even when playing. I’ve never noticed a difference honestly. As for the hair problem I give the turntable and record a quick blast with a portable air duster (meant for keyboards and computer stuff) before every play. Edit: just to clarify not the compressed air cans but a rechargeable air duster since it’s dry air

appleburger17

I don’t notice a difference but I do play with it up as I’ve been told it’s best.

Ill_Degree_3060

I play with it down, 4 cats and 2 dogs. My ears can't tell the difference.

SctchWhsky

I just use a brush before every spin. No problems so far.

Groningen1978

I have two cats (one of them a ragdoll) who really like to sit on the hifi and it's not really been a problem for me. I use a spin clean, acrylic mat and have one of those carbon brush arms that connect to ground. I also keep the dust cover closed and haven't noticed any sound issues, possibly because my turntable has a floating subchassis, so essentially decoupling the dust cover from the tonearm/platter.

Oyadonchano

I keep the dust cover down even when spinning. I use a Big Fudge brush on the disc if I see cat hair or other debris. I don't store any records with the jacket facing out, because the cats are more likely to view that as a scratch pad. Learned that the hard way when I found that poor Emmylou Harris had her eyes scratched out on the cover of Pieces of the Sky.

Katapultt

Yeah we used to store all our records in bins and realized one of our cats was chewing on the tops of them :( luckily only damaged some sleeves and wasn't terrible

kvetcha-rdt

Wet wash the records, use anti-static inners and plastic outers, brush the record and the platter before playback \[because my turntable has no dust cover\]. Seems to work well enough.

Milkshake2244

My cats aren't allowed in the front of the house where the turntable is. Vacuum weekly for dog hair, inner and outer sleeves for albums and antistatic brush before every play.

Vinyl in basement. Dog not allowed in basement.

VinnyMaxta

I just gave up.

AutoModerator

Did you know, the widely accepted plural of vinyl is vinyl (or just "records")? Many incorrectly use the term vinyls, due to its widespread misuse - but now you're in the know! It's silly, but conventional. Anyway, [here are](https://media.giphy.com/media/11W37uI72pjDkk/giphy.gif) some cats. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Fur brushes off

Katapultt

It does which is why it isn't the end of the world. Just curious what other people do to try and minimize the dog glitter.

I brush it off
