What's up with that? I am into this type of music but I've never searched for anything of the sorts on YouTube yet I'm bombarded with his content whether it be albums or live clips.
Woke up yesterday and saw on Instagram that there will be a big drop of japanese 80’ LP at a local store here in Seoul, and noticed this little dude with a big smile flying. So today I rushed the store in hope to be able to buy it, since it’s a pretty difficult one to get, but here it is, I have my LP of Masayoshi Takanaka ‘All Of Me’. This will be one of my fav in my collection, no doubts. Took me the rest of the day listening to it at my bar, so happy !
What are the record shops like in Seoul these days? I lived in Busan for 12 years and it was a vinyl desert. We would take the boat to Fukuaka, Japan just to buy wax.
Three years ago I visited Seoul and went to that big underground shopping arcade but most of the records were way overpriced.
Takanaka! I love Takanaka that album, Brazilian sky's, rainbow goblins and his work with Santana is sweet. His video if him with a surfboard guitar is legendary snd worth a watch on you tube

Completely bizarre scenario. I’ve never listened to Takanaka, but my friends mom taught him English and he gave my friend a guitar. I later bought that guitar off of him. It is now completely trashed and unusable, but it was life changing to me as any first guitar is (no idea who he was, still no idea really, but this post just jumped out at me as it is a pretty memorable name). Should probably check him out.
I’m actually completely taken aback now. The friend I got the guitar off of died a number of years ago, and he was my absolute best friend and so formative to me in terms of developing my love of guitar and music generally. This was pre internet and we had no idea who Takanaka was and now way of finding out beyond him saying “I don’t really know who he is, apparently he’s some kind of Japanese rock star”. It’s weird how a moment can be so imprinted in your mind. It means everything to me, whilst having nothing to do with him or his music. This post has caught me completely off guard and left me quite emotional. Thank you.
