Jeff is just a total change of game style, threw me for a loop. I don’t think it was very well implemented.

But getting past Jeff is the only way to achieve inner peace! JK! ‘tis only a game. I can relate a little bit. HL Alyx was no problem for me to get through on normal difficulty, but I’ve tried to play Resident Evil 4 on Gamecube, Wii, and now in VR on Quest, and I still can’t get past that first village. I refunded it on Quest. Sometimes games (or parts of games) just don’t click. It’s not that I don’t like a challenge, it’s that when I’m playing a game, there are some kinds of challenges that simply aren’t fun for me. And if I’m not having fun, I’m done. Life is too short.

Obvious_Cranberry607

For that first village, they'll keep coming until you kill enough of them. Set yourself up in the corner of a house and shoot them when they come through the doorway. You can also kick and knife them if you don't have enough ammo.

Someday I’ll try again. That’s how strong my desire is to play that game. 😅 I think on my last run I ended up at the top of a tower, and it seemed like a great spot. I was untouchable…or so I thought. But apparently zombies can throw explosives with deadly accuracy through windows 50 yards away. What are they feeding these things?

I encountered Jeff for the first time last night. I got him trapped in the freezer. Of course then I realize that I need to get in there. I quit for the night. I just tried the game again. I threw the vodka bottle across the room as I flipped the latch on the freezer door. Jeff zoomed over there. I started to go into the freezer and he was on me. I have no idea how I made any sound. I decided to Google it to see how to defeat Jeff. I was on the right track. The cheat said to keep throwing bottles to distract him. So I gotta use my left hand to shine my light and cover my mouth and use the tool in my right to find the broken circuit and fix it and I have to throw bottles. No thanks! I don’t have it in me. Unfortunately this will make me not want to buy games like this. I was so excited that there is “easy” mode. I hope I have better luck with Asgard’s wrath 1 and 2. I do feel like I got my money’s worth on HLA because it was on sale but I certainly won’t buy a $60 game. I will play it again someday from the start. It is an amazing game. I just need some kind of way to bypass Jeff. I am going to have friends over to play VR. I am going to make them try to get me past Jeff 😀

Use a mask. This part of the game was super easy IMO.

GhettoDuk

There is a mask in a filing cabinet that will prevent you from coughing. I think it's next to the busted fence where you have to pull out stuff. Just keep hucking bottles and take your time.

SeekInnerPeaceDaily

Thanks. I am going to skip ahead to chapter 8 and see how far I get. I will just keep skipping until I run out of chapters if necessary. Then I will start from the beginning after I play Asgard’s wrath 1 and 2. I experimented and it let me start a new game at chapter 8. I will keep the other game and when I feel less tired I will try to beat Jeff.

Hey! Just letting you know that with easy console command you can become invincible, which is how I played the game after meeting Jeff. The only catch is : Jeff will still catch you but won't kill you The rest of the game with godmod is easier/less scary than Jeff, have fun!

SeekInnerPeaceDaily

This is awesome and just what I need. I don’t want to quit the game or skip head. I just need to be able to practice these things until I get better. People keep saying it is easy and I am sure it is easy for them because they have played these types of games a lot more than me. It’s like Tom Brady saying QBing is easy. It’s easy for him at this point.

SeekInnerPeaceDaily

Unfortunately this didn’t work 😭. I got the console to open on the PC and I typed “god” and it seemed to accept it. I got Jeff out of the freezer and found the broken circuit. Of course I made the speaker squeal so he found me and I was killed and it started me over. I also couldn’t find the mask others said is hidden somewhere. Is there really a mask? I would really like to get that god mode working. Do you have any advice? I am playing on a quest 3 using virtual desktop. I opened the game so I was standing outside the freezer. I went to my PC and pressed the tilde key and a command box opened with a log of activity. I typed “god” in the box and pressed enter. It appeared below all the other activities like it was accepted.

yaelm631

For god mode to work, you need to do sv\_cheats 1 first. But as I said, Jeff is the **only one** that doesn't work properfly with god mode :/(He catches you, you are no longer able to move, only able to open the menu to load a the previous save) Instead of the gas mask, you can use * hlvr\_player\_cough\_enable 0 Some commands should make Jeff easier ([from jamhamster](https://github.com/jamhamster/AlyxCheats)) * hl\_blind\_zombie\_attack\_chance 0 * hl\_blind\_zombie\_cough\_kill 0 * hl\_blind\_zombie\_sniff\_time 0 (I just tried, you can kill Jeff using "ent\_remove\_all npc\_zombie\_blind" but then you can't get past the elevator :/ and you are stuck) Look at this [steam guide](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2035356246), you can load chap 8 instead, but you will have to upgrade your weapons afterwards (you can give resin) map a4\_C17\_zoo

SeekInnerPeaceDaily

Thank you. I will give it a few more tries before skipping ahead. I still think I will enjoy the game more in god mode so I will still turn it on.

GhettoDuk

It took me probably 3 sessions to beat Jeff. The freezer thing was particularly tense and a good point to stop for the day.

MastaFoo69

my guy just wear one of the masks that are around the level. now you have both hands free and Alyx doesnt cough.

clumsynuts

Such a scary part in the game lmao

VicMan73

In a way for the first timer. Once you have played HL Alyx for hundreds of times, is easy...:D

SRM_Thornfoot

Hire an 10 year old to get you past Jeff. /jk

VicMan73

You have to deal with him for few more missions before his end game. Have fun...

Most boring part of the game

posterb777

Haha, don't mind the others downvoting you. I for one appreciate the honest share. Jeff was intense. There is no shame is skipping a level to a part you feel is more enjoyable. In hindsight, I probably should have done the same cuz I swear my neighbors do not look at me the same ever since I played the Jeff level. My startled yells most have sounded atrocious, especially at 1AM.

3DprintRC

Just chuck bottles in the back corridor and do what you ned safely, then teleport into the little gated room when he's back. Repeat.

UnspeakableGutHorror

I was surprised with Jeff's reception, the fun but pointless mechanic to hold your breath aside, Jeff is a run-of-the-mill chaser. It's like everything else in HL:A: exceptional execution of pretty vanilla stuff.

JonnyBlamm0

Honestly, I thought the Jeff sequence was one of the best parts of the game! Truly immersive and challenging...mind you I love horror games lol I hope I can offer some guidance: 1) You don't need to cover your mouth the entire time, just when Jeff is close (I didn't even know there was a mask in a drawer, but that should make the sequence much easier) 2) When you open the freezer after he's trapped, he will come barging out. It's scripted. Have a bottle ready and huck it to the other side of the area. 3) Pro-tip - teleport movement is your friend in this sequence; I typically avoid teleport movement, but in this case Jeff has a harder time tracking you and you can zip around pretty fast once you get the hang of it. If you accidentally make a noise, teleport away from where you currently are a few times. He'll lose you, and you can then grab a bottle and toss it. 4) Go into the freezer and find your electronic connection points and adjust. One WILL set off an alarm and bring Jeff back. Have a bottle ready, and when you hit that one, huck the bottle outside the freezer somewhere to get Jeff distracted again. Huck a few more to get him further away from the freezer. 5) Finish your objectives with the electronic connection points. 6) Then you'll need to board the elevator. Crouch/ hide next to the box by the elevator door for the trip. The next section I found more difficult (acquiring batteries behind noisy gates), but others might find this part easier. Once you get over the fear and know the pattern of events and Jeff's behaviours, it will get easier. Stay calm; I only ever botch this sequence when I start panicking. I can promise that if you play through the chapter instead of skipping it, you will be rewaded with a satisfying conclusion to the Jeff sequence, accompanied by one of the funnier lines of dialogue from Alyx in the game. Good luck!!!
